Depends who you sell it to, but I would say most prefer stock, unrooted but just leave it unlocked.

And how would sell urs, if u were selling one, rooted or unrooted?

I would sell it rooted with a like stock ROM. Would they really notice?

If you sell through Ebay or any place that has buyer protection in place, sell the phone unrooted and running stock. This applies more to the NS4G, but I've heard several stories of people buying rooted phones running custom ROMs, trying to get in store support and being told the phone is unsupported because it's rooted, so they request a refund through Paypal for being sold a defective item. The seller loses the money and the phone.
Just be careful.

I would flash stock, lock it up and make it look like it came out of the box. Better safe than sorry... like dvorak said people may use it against you.

Custom Roms & Phone Carrier Contract

Hey folks,
Sorry if this has been posted before (searched, couldn't find anything) but...
Was just wondering, I'd like to flash a custom ROM on my gfs phone, but don't know if it will affect her Warranty/Contract.
If she needs to take the phone in to upgrade (as she can do after the year) will they cancel her contract or anything?
She's with Vodaphone if that makes a difference.

if you flash a custom rom then yes it will void her warranty. HOWEVER, XDA probualy has a way to return to stock should you ever need to (i.e. return phone for warranty or upgrade etc.) Search the fourms in your phone specific area to see if they have a 'return to stock' thread.

Yep, and they will NEVER cancel her contract as it loses them money. Lol.
The worst thing that can happen is if you break it and you need to send it in for warranty, they won't help you. But like the quoted poster said, there are ways to revert back to stock.

Thanks for the replies guys!
That's cool. I'll probably see about rooting her phone then.
If they did find out that I had rooted the phone, do you reckon they would still upgrade her after the year? I suppose they would, because if they wouldn't upgrade her she would just cancel her contract and go with another provider and they don't want that!

[Q] Looking for the latest (rooted) stock rom

I always hate asking questions like this, because someone inevitably points me to a link that was super-easy to find and I scratch my head wondering how I missed it! But, I am looking for a rooted stock ROM (latest) download link.
I recently upgraded my phone and made the mistake of selling it to someone with the latest CM ROM on it. Although I informed them that it wasn't 100% functional and of course once they had problems with it they returned it to me.
Hence the request for the latest rooted stock rom. I want it rooted since people do look for that and it's on them if they decide to try out new ROMs.
As always, thanks for the assistance.
Does the person you're selling the phone to want it rooted? Cuz they can't flash roms if the bootloader is not unlocked which means you would need to do both.

It is unlocked and rooted at the moment. I only want to put a stock rom on there to ensure that there are no technical issues that a potential buyer might have running a custom rom (and that they can take it into a verizon store for support).
If necessary, I guess I could unroot it by putting the stock rom back on it and then go through the motions of re-rooting and unlocking. I just assumed that there was a rooted stock rom availble I could flash.

I would not give someone a rooted and unlocked phone unless they request it. If they request it then fine. Bit otherwise it's a very bad idea. They could be someone who had no idea what root means and screw their phone up. They would take it to Verizon to have it fixed and then Verizon would say "Sorry we don't help people who has modified their software" (root and unlocked).

Aight, here it is then. Credit goes to Scrosler for the work. I do agree with @Sandman-007 though, I'd set it back to stock, unrooted and be done with it all. Leaves no stone unturned. Just make sure it is openly stated that the device is rooted and unlocked but with the stock rom installed. Anything less would be negligent.

Trading in S3 on EDGE Program--Question About Root

Hey guys quick question. I think I am going to be trading my S3 in today to get the new HTC One on the EDGE program. My question is my S3 is rooted and running a custom ROM (CleanROM 8.1). Do I need to un-root and put stock ROM back onto the S3 when handing in the phone through the EDGE program? Thanks!

I'd love to see an answer to this question myself. I was going to do the same thing. The only difference is I have the stock ROM just rooted.
To be on the safe side and not get a called later on by vzw. I suggest to Unroot and put stock image on.

Thanks...If they did call you what would they say and would there be any repercussions? I didn't give them my S3, I had an old HTC Rhyme lying around (my girlfriends old phone) lol...It was rooted as well but stock ROM. I was to lazy to un-root it so I gave it to them rooted. I wonder what Verizon even does with phones traded in through EDGE?

Worse case give it back to you. Since i haven't read about edge cant tell u wat is ACCEPTABLE and wats not. Depending hows the quality of the fone they probably fix them recertified them. Resell as use or us as replacement wen ppl have a warranty claim.

Well, I'm from India.. Got my phone off eBay, shipped it to a friend who brought the phone for me. I'm not sure if any retail stores still sell it. You can find one on eBay for about 200$. And if you don't mind used mint condition phones or so, they cost only about 150.. Worth every single penny IMO.
Leftovers
You won't find it in retail stores ever... Only used on Ebay or in stock leftovers (if succeed)
I bought my second Relay in http://www.gsmnation.com/ couple of monthes ago. In a brand-new condition. Now it is out of stock there but you can follow this site and check the availability regularly
i bought it trough ebay, its says new in box plus they will unlock it for free so it should be good
we'll got back to the forum when i'll get ti.
by the way if i will vhange the rom to an AOSP one will it break the factoy sim unlock?

No No.. Nothing of that sort should happen..
God forbid, but if it does you can flash back to JB and unlock it using the method listed on Xda..
thanks for the reply, i'm still waiting on the delivery. i will install TWRP or CWMR first and the root the orignal rom and then back it up completely before doing someting.

Dude... there are plenty of new, unused Relays on eBay, im getting one next month.
well i reciveid mine and its unused and factory unlocked as promised. i also got the t-mobile sim card its like i bouht it strait from them, will find a use for it for sure.
i'm still on the stock 4.1.2 rom. the baseband is T699UVBMC5, kernal version of 3.0.31-995683,and the build number is JZO45K.T699UVBMC5.
is this the offical lastes modem/baseband that will aloow me to install the latest 4.4.4 based rom?
i already install CWMR and rooted my device but my question is
if i wil install a 4.4.4 based rom like liquidsmooth or CM11 can i roll back to the orginal rom via a simplae restore operation within TWRP?
as for now the stock rom works preety much prefect. the calls are great, the gps lock i great. no problem with any feture that i use exepet
for a random restart of the device once in a couple of days if i overload it.
i don't want all the t-mobile crap so i'm considering the alternative.
No body can answer me?

You can always go back to stock, the firmware is available on the sammobile website.. U'll have to use odin to flash it though.. As for the latest baseband and modem u're running the latest official software, so flashing over it should not be a problem. Works fine for me..
thank you all for the replies.
i will have a twrp backup and do an odin backup via: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082288
and install liquidsmooth after it.
i still prefer backuping my own phone retaher then flashin frimware from sammobile as it will probley lock my sim back.

Resetting the LG V20 when I return it for the S8 Plus

Hi,
Has anyone done a Jump upgrade where the device being returned has been rooted and a custom ROM has been installed? Does TMobile care if the device has been rooted and a new ROM installed? I can flash back to stock and relock the bootloader but was wondering if it's necessary?
Thanks in advance.
I've heard it go both ways. Go back to stock just to be sure
Thanks, I was going to do that once I get the new device. Just wondering what they would consider "unacceptable". Yes, this is me being lazy.
It really depends on the rep who checks it. I'm resetting mine this afternoon, waiting for the Plus myself

Would you mind sharing what you're going to do to reset it? I was going to use this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903
But not sure if there's a simpler method to go back to factory default.
Thanks in advance.
That's the thread I'm looking at. Or, I may just flash the T-Mobile stock ROM and leave it at that

Some CS reps don't even look or care but its better to be on the safe side. Would suck if they denied you and you had to go home to reload stock TMO ROM.

I'm on JOD and I've returned devices that were previously rooted and loaded with a custom ROM with no issue. Even a Note 5 that was rooted which permanently broke Samsung Pay. I'm also a manager at a corporate store & most reps wouldn't even know what they were looking at to be honest lol. So long as it powers on and has no damage you're good.

So, why do people keep mentioning CSRs in the answers? I am returning it in the box the S8+ is coming in. Can I actually return it back to a store as well? I thought I had to ship it back to TMobile.

*shrug* I have absolutely NO idea, but I'm guessing as the S8+ is going to show up in its own box with all the other stuff for the device, and all I have put BACK in the return box is JUST the LG V20, I would assume there's going to be plenty of room.
Ha, I'm in this boat too. Too lazy to restore but I will if it means there might be a problem. I thought they just force flash a stock firmware when they got it. What to do.....What to do...
