so my phone deleted everything off of my sdcard and you know how your pics and everything is litterly like your world or life. how can i restore all my files? or am i totally f'ed?
i was also wondering is there something for your phone like how your computer can be restored to a date before. is there a way or program to do this to your phone and micro SD memory card??
please help me i really dont wanna have to redo everything on my sdcard again):
If the card was wiped its gone and I don't think the phone makes restore points like a computer does. Best you can do is back up your rom periodically but that wont bring back the SD card data.

I'm not sure how your phone would've done that; that usually requires a deliberate action. Unless you somehow converted the filesystem on the sdcard, it should be a VFAT filesystem. Basically the filesystem from Windows 95, 98, ME, etc. I can't think of an easy way to recover that. There might be a tool out there to do it.
Hopefully someone else has a better answer.

Ouch. I'm afraid the data's probably lost, man. If it partitioned the card it probably wrote a new partition table. There might be some file recovery utilities you can run from Windows to try and recover the files but I don't know how successful they would be.
I thought I read somewhere there was an app to retrieve old deleted data from a sd card somewhere in these sgs4g forums. a guy did almost the same thing and said he got most of it back, try searching some key words

Given that it got re-partitioned, though....
Unless you do a Full Format, or fill the card with new files, most of the time when stuff deletes, the index information is removed or something like that, and it's just invisible, until it's overwritten. So if you can find a recovery program it should be able to find the data. Last time I looked there weren't many free ones, but it's worth a google search.
I agree with goddi2010. I also remember reading that one of our members had a similar problem and was able to recover lost data. He even mentions what he did/used to recover the data.
Somewhere in our forum the help you need is there. Good luck searching and when you find the info please let us know how it worked out for you...
Sorry I can't be more specific.
I just used the program Recuva ( it's free ). Install it on your computer and plug your phone in or put the card in a reader then run Recuva and select the quick scan and it will bring up everything that has been deleted and it will tell you if it can recover it or not. It has work for me multiple times.

wtf. My girl has a rooted thunderbolt running shiftsense rom. Out of nowhere a symbol pops up and says blank SD card or unsupported file format. I tried putting it in mine and similiar issue. Any way to save this thing? Any idea how it happened? She didn't do anything and was sitting in a meeting. She lost data and phone connection and when she found me, this symbol was up also.
I tried remounting SD card with no luck. Please help! Ton of pictures and other important documents on there.
Almost seems like a remote wipe.
Please feel free to pm me here also it email directly at [email protected]
Sounds like the file system on the sdcard became corrupt. I've had this happen to me twice now on different roms. Try putting the card in a computer and see if it can read anything and format it afterwards.

guys, I need your help.
I bought a htc one x in september 2012, rogers canada.
i did a factory reset 5 months ago and it did not touch my SD card data. I upgraded to jelly bean and did another factory reset a few days ago, not expecting it would wipe my SD car, but it did.
I am guilty of not making a SD card backup, but I just didn't expect it to be wiped, cause it wasn't the first time i did the factory reset.
So now I am trying to do a data recovery, but my problem is the PC doesn't see the SD card as a drive anymore, and neither do any of the data recovery programs i am trying to use.
I couldn't find any data recovery app that runs from the phone, which would probably see the SD card and recover files.
Any clues on how to get my data (photos, pdfs, docs, music) back?
Thank you!
P.S. did I understend well that the SD card is not actually an SD card but an integrated whatever? Why would they call it an SD card then? stupid?

Your pc won't see it as a usb device with 4.1.1 it will show as a one x in device manager and windows explorer
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
It still follows the secure digital standard so it is still an sd card regardless of being removable or not. It's not stupid for them to call it so as its well published that this device has no removable storage.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
You did a factory reset from the bootloader, which corrupts the SD card.
I believe since its corrupted, the only way to fix it is to reformat. Once you do, your data is gone. Some folks might have other ideas. But I think this is what the answer was when the question came up before (not that long ago, maybe a week or 2 ago).
exad already answered the question about it being called an SD card. Plus, some apps access the SD for storing data, and the OS can move some app data to SD. So again, it behaves as an SD, just that its not removable. Calling it something else would be confusing.
yup, the win explorer sees it(but not as a drive...), but the other programs with which I am trying to recover data do not see it so i cannot recover.

driver
I am trying to follow some steps and flash a recovery onto it to mount the sd card as a drive. I have a problem though, although i have installed the htc drivers to my computer, the adb still gives back device not found error(which should mean the driver is not properly installed and or it is a wrong driver) and i dont know enough about drivers and that stuff. can anyone maybe help which driver top install?
HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe is the one that doesn't help seemingly
thanks!

Recovery programs won't read it, since its corrupted. You have to format it using Windows, which will make your data irrecoverable (I believe).
Mounting in recovery won't work either. It won't mount USB when its corrupted. You can still try it. But I don't think it will work.
I hoped this would work, i found it on this forum, but i am stuck on the device not found (driver?) error.
What do you think? thanks redpoint73

Solved
Thank you Redpoint for your thoughts. I hoped that I would find an easy reply to solve my problem but in the end this is what I knew I ultimately had to do.
Quick summary:
Unlocked Bootloader via HTC Dev.
Flashed Recovery, Team Win Recovery Project 2.4.1.0
Mounted SD as a drive via Recovery.
Ran RecoverMyFiles v5 and recovered the files that I lost.
Now to go ROM shopping and start again. This time I will listen to my own warning and keep a copy online.

Redpoint, do you think there is any chance that the sd card is not corrupted? Because, I have 10 gigs available on the phone now, so I think the card is working. Maybe I don't understand the terminology used here... What exactly do u mean by corrupted? Thanks
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Essentially, it's not corrupt but if you try to recover the data it will have been corrupted when you factory reset in bootloader so the data will not be usable.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Basically, the data is still there, but the system can't find it because the "roadmap" if you will, has been erased. It's like trying to find a specific apartment in New York City with no map and no addresses marked on the buildings. The only way to do it is to visit every single address in town.
You've got an added problem here because this lost storage is located in an unformatted partition on an external device, which may mean your PC simply isn't going to see it without some sort of specialized software. To stretch the metaphor further, it's trying to visit every address in a town you don't know exists.
I think that recovering your data should be possible with the right recovery program, but its likely to be more trouble than it's worth, and it's certain that many of the files you recover still won't be usable anyway.
Thanks, my problem is, I think, that I cannot take the card out and put it in some kind of reader. My knowledge in regards ends here. If the pc still wouldn't see it, I don't know how would I solve the prob.
It just seems incredible nothing can be done to access this card for the recovery purposes, when it is accessed right now through the pc with no problem for storage purposes.
Any further advice will be highly appreciated.

4.1 doesn't use the generic mass storage device driver. You can try mounting it through recovery, I believe that DOES use the generic mass storage device driver but I am not certain it will work. As stated previously, there's a very good chance whatever files you recover will not be working files anyway.

Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
You don't need adb to access recovery but if adb access is enabled on your phone, it should work. Do you have HTC sync running?
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
I tried with sync running and without. Cannot go to recovery from bootloader nor through pc, it says no device founf error

-Try disconnecting everything, and powering off and restarting both phone and PC.
-Try using a different cable and USB port.
This seems to happen to a lot of people, and these often fix it.

Try a Data-Recovery Program
There are Free Data Recovery programs in the World but the best one is:
IsoBuster by Peter van Hoove
---------- Post added at 09:18 ---------- Previous post was at 09:15 ----------
Surely, yes, your PC needs Administrator rights and the SD-Card isn't a big Problem because the PC has full access to the file System (Mass Storage)
Newer Smartphones only offer MTP. You can't access the Filesystem so with MTP data recovery isn't possible.
...but only if the SD-Card is inserted in the Smartphone to the PC.
Use your PC's SD-Card Slot or Adapter.
...data Recovery from Internal Storages on Unrooted devices with locked bootloader is very hard and a big problem - even isoBuster is powerless then.

Why are you dragging up a dead thread by replying to posts that are almost two years old?

First of all, I have to say I'm a total noob so I will try to make things as simple as possible.
2 days ago, a friend deleted some pics and videos which are pretty important to me. I tried to switch the phone to USB mass storage device mode (and later undelete files with Recuva or some similar program), like I did with my last one, but then I realized that Core doesn't have that option So, my question would be - is there any chance to recover it or should I quit? The phone is on default settings, not rooted or anything.
Quit, sorry but if ure using stock kernel there is no option...
So, there is no possibility to root it now and then recover it with some software? Damn..

Root? What'd you root it for?
Sorry, my bad, didn't explain all facts in the first post. I found on google that there are some programs to enable USB mass storage device mode on Galaxy Core, so I downloaded one of them - USB Mass Storage Enabler. When I enter it, it says:
Your device does not seem to be rooted, this application requires root to work.
So I guess there is a slight possibility that I can undelete those files, maybe... but it would be of great help if someone would confirm, if there is someone who had the same problem.
If you had the photos on SD card then you can recover them using iCare Recovery Software or any other recovery software.
I don't have a SD card, it's on internal memory card.
Can someone just confirm that nothing can be done? So I can stop searching for a solution on google and all kinds of forums...

Hey all. Is there a way to recover deleted photos? I'm running Alliance ROM Build 22. I've been Googling like a mad man, but all the methods require enabling USB mass storage which isn't possible on 4.3. Is there any other way? Or am I screwed Please they are irreplaceable pictures that I meant to back up. :'(
