Is their going to be another nexus phone? - General Questions and Answers

I am looking to upgrade in the near future and from past releases. I figure a new nexus phone should be in the pipeline although I can not find any leaked info etc. Anybody know more? I have always had android phones and currently have the gs2 but I want a nexus next mainly for the timely updates. Any info peeps.

No info I've heard of (except for the rumored five nexus devices.. who knows what to make of that).
Judging from last year's release, likely it'll come out some time later this year.

Should be out in November according to rumors. Don't plan on using your upgrade on it, it most likely will not be available on any carriers...you will have to buy it full price on the play store.

I really recommend the route of paying full price and then getting contract-free service. Saves you money in the long run and it's a lot more flexible.

What do you plan on doing?

Samsung is unveiling a new generation of Galaxy S phones. What does this mean for current Galaxy S users? Are we going to be neglected once Samsung unveils this newer and sexier line of galaxy phones? Could there be cross-development between this generation and the next generation of Galaxy phones? Any Captivate owners planning to abandon ship or reluctantly stay with your current phone?
I'm currently debating whether I should sell my Captivate in a few weeks (I'm sure holiday demand will help increase prices a little ) and grab the newer galaxy phones when they come out, or just stick with this already amazing phone. Decisions decisions...
I'm sticking with mine..I do have to ask you something though..Why are you in a quandary over this..if you actually think this...

..Why change to something that may not be ? Are the specs that great on this unreleased as yet phone that you feel compelled to change...or [/I]do you just have to have the latest and greatest out all the time.?

My quandry is that although this is an amazing phone, the specs on the new phone make it seem amazinger! Also I'm kind of upset that these phones were released around June, I bought mine in August, and Samsung is releasing the next generation of phones in less than a year! At least Apple has the decency to wait a year I know all of this is based on here-say, but who doesn't want the latest and greatest???

It's not like there is really anything on the new phones that the Captivate won't be able to do...
I'm hanging in. With the great developers here I can't see this phone going out of style for awhile yet.
You're the type of user that Samsung drools over.
We first started seeing leaks of the current galaxy S devices in April of 2009... It takes quite a bit of time to go from a few prototypes to actual production.
sticking with my current phone. couldn't afford to upgrade anyway..
There is always going to be something better"just around the corner" ......the wonders of modern technology
Not sure what more I can expect my phone to do at this point though....but I am sure I will upgrade again though not til next summer

LOL I'm not usually the type of person to sell my current phone to get the latest and greatest but like I said, this new lineup looks amazing.

By the same token, if you stand back and compare this with phones that were being sold 2 years ago our current lineup is pretty awsome...

That's true, but we're not living in 2008 anymore! I'm want to have a handset that will last me through 2012
For me this will last til 2012. Will it be top of the line, no. with the way the technology curve is going I don't see any phone lasting very long on top at all. Not unless they develope hardware that most likely the common public is not willing to spend.

This phone will be plenty to last at least for two years until my contract is up.
Hell, I bought a PS3 in 2006 and Sony is just about to release the console's most anticipated game ever Gran Turismo 5.
And that will easily last a couple more years before a Playstation 4 is revealed.
Although there will be newer phones, I think the Captivate is future proof for a couple of years.
That is what open-source and apps are for.
I love the captivate currently and the prospect of new phones means more software support in the future that is compatible with it.
Gingerbread not being released on the captivate? A long as a similar phone is and it meets the specs looks like our kitchens will be cooking for a long time.

This...I just hope they keep developing for the Cap. And if "they" dont, I know someone who will /grin

I bought my Captivate off contract, and if Samsung releases another phone on AT&T that I like, I'll buy that phone off contract as well. I don't mind having a stockpile of working GSM phones

Tbolt $99 on Amazon with an Upgrade

Lowest price I have seen so far. It was at $119 recently.
Im guessing the Rezound release is the reason for the drop. I wonder what Verizon will have it at after the official release.
It's been 69.99 on Walmart.com since August
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Unfortunately theres no real reason to buy it even at that price with all the new phones coming out before the end of this year. I think most people would be willing to get a Rezound or other device that is already confirmed to receive ICS
Idk. I think price is a big factor. The new big 3 coming out are all going to be $300 with a 2 year. Even with better phones on the market the tbolt for under $100 is a good deal. Plus who cares about stock ICS anyway. Devs will have it out and better versions.

Likely places to buy

This will be my first Nexus so I'm not sure how you guys generally go about it. In addition to being on the Play store, are these usually sold by the big online retailers like Amazon? If so, would they be likely to have it immediately when it's released, or would Google hold onto some sort of "exclusive" sales period?
I do know that I'm not interested in buying it from AT&T just on general principles, but might consider some other non-Google source if I'm guaranteed availability & quick shipping.
I'm pretry sure best buy will have it along with tmobile. Best place to buy will probably be the play store. Also wrong section

I'm pretty sure that they will be offering the Nexus 5 on Amazon. I'm not completely sure because its Google ( unpredictable ), but the Nexus 7 (2013) was on Amazon, so I assume that the Nexus 5 will be too.
Probably just the playstore and possibly the carriers. Retailers would want a piece of the pie and these are already subsidized by Google at $350 ~
Usually sold only on playstore to start with, but Google may partner with amazon and best buy as well. But whatever it is place an order from play store as soon as the device goes for sale. Then look if you can get locally from best buy since you can always cancel or return the play store order.
My preference if it's available amazon, I will go for it with prime shipping. Always easy to deal with amazon customer service than Google or usually no clue best buy customer service.

This will be my first nexus too. If bought from a carrier, will they be adding their own bloat like they do on other phones or will it stay true to the stock android experience? Would you still get your updates from Google or are you stuck waiting for the carrier to push them out?

I hope to get it from T-Mobile (as long as they don't screw everyone over like they did with the Nexus 4 and offer it at a higher price) since I would be able to pay for it over 2 years and not have to pay full price right away.
Also, just read this on the official blog:
Nexus 5 will be available soon at the following retailers: Sprint, T-Mobile, Amazon, Best Buy and RadioShack.

They should be listing the phone within a few days.
Is that based on a source? Or just based on their track record with the Nexus 7 (2013) ?
Even if they don't list it until Nov 6th, i'd get it before i would have if ordered from the play store. I just hope its not a debacle like the chromecast. Then again, that was because of the netflix promo.

I'd like to know as well if this is from a source or just an educated guess. I have Amazon GCs I can use if it's not that long of a wait for Amazon to get it. T-Mobile's "in the coming weeks" makes it sound like it could take a month for them to get it and I don't know if they will increase the price like they did the Nexus 4.

The way I read that is it could be any time before Thanksgiving time so it could be a whole month before we see it at those retailers.

Does the Google Play Nexus 5 ever go on sale?

I know it just came out, but I do not need to buy one until February. Should I wait?
No you ough wait until next year when they realse the N6 i think.

If you are waiting for Google Play Store, please don't wait for them. The best you can do is get free shipping or playstore credit. For retail, the price starts to come down after a few months. If it is close to Christmas, Easter or any major holidays then there are great deals to be taken.
On a new device like this, Google doesn't usually reduce the price. They may offer additional incentives for the holiday season, such as Play Store credit, free shipping, etc., but that's about it. The price won't be reduced until just before the next nexus phone is released, probably 4th quarter 2014. Of course, there's always the possibility of some crazy event affecting the norm... but I wouldn't count on it.
Phone is already cheap for what you get. Check out the Moto G for $200.

on sale!!?? just like the other user said the moto g mite be the phone for u.. the N5 is already crazy cheap for what u get.. do be honest one of the main reasons i got the n5 is the development it gets.. this is my first nexus phone and i love it.. i have had some many top of the line phone in the past 3 years and none of them come close to the love this phone gets.. i will never get another htc one.. or a galaxy phone again... im sticking with nexus:good:
I am fine with paying $349.That is a great price for the phone. What I am trying to decide is whether to purchase it now or wait for February when I will actually get to use the phone. I want to purchase it now, so that I can have it already. However, if it it might get reduced between now and then, it would be wise to wait. In the past have the prices stayed constant until the new model came out?

I'm done with Galaxy phones too. I booted up my S4 today to update it to the new MK2 OTA update because I'm getting it ready to sell. After a few weeks with my N5 I had already forgotten what a pain in the a$$ Knox is. Never again!

[Q] Anyone else angry about the M9 already on it's way?

I, for one, am pissed. I just got into another 2 year deal to get this phone and they are talking about it's replacement already. They should have made it known, so people could decide themselves if they want to wait.
I'm not sure where you've been but in today's smartphone market, flagship devices are lucky to last 4-6 months before they are dated. The 2 year plan is not feasible for keeping the latest smartphone.

Transparency is all I'm asking. If the phone is coming out in 2-3 months, then they already are past the planning stage and may already be in the manufacturing stage. Either way, I think it would be decent of them to layout the long term. Don't know where you are but in America these phones are expensive and tied to expensive carriers, So I would like to know all my options if the ,manufacturer already knows they're putting them out.
If that's true I'm not really mad. The way I see it is that with such a short time between releases the M9 will be only a slight improvement at most.

Where are you seeing information about the M9?
I don't think they need to disclose anything... There will always be a newer phone around the corner.
You know that without them announcing anything... And if you are on a 2 year contract, what is the difference if a new one comes out 6 months later, or a year later. Changes nothing.
And if you are going to play the waiting game for the next 'big thing' you'll always be waiting, as there is always a next big thing coming...
The only thing I have read about an "M9" is that they are cancelling the M8 Prime to focus on the M9 which will be released in Q1 2015......... right on schedule.
So enjoy your M8......... I know i am.
If you wait for the M9 you might as well wait for the M10. You'll only have the latest and greatest for a month or two with all the flagship phones available.
I believe I'm in the Verizon forum and if so they have the Next program. If u got it when this phone came out they had a special which basically every month what Next costs you is credited back to you so you have the Next program free! New phone can come out tomorrow for all I care and I can trade my phone in for it with $0 out of pocket. A beautiful thing for the OCD people that want the latest and greatest . Those not interested there is the standard 2yr contract plan for phones. Easy two choices so choose wisely . Don't blame the cellphone company for your choices on how u will upgrade. They have to keep up with the times to stay in business, the user doesn't have to, it's a choice.

True but unless u find a real dummy ur never gonna get back what u paid. Still going to pay at least $100 out of pocket after selling 8-14 month old device. How much does an HTC One X+ go for today compare to when it came out? Example
I'd rather pay $0 out of pocket and upgrade when I want to and still pay only $160/month for two lines with 10gb of shared data. Just need to turn s on, unroot, fix tampered banner, flash stock Rom and return device. No one knows the better .

True true. The example I use for my case though would have to be the note 2. Once that got locked up on an OTA it started selling like hot cakes. 100-150$ for a new phone is perfectly acceptable for me though. I am losing some money but the enjoyment from the phone is worth it :good:

I did this to get the DNA, SG3, SG4, M7, bought M8 on contract, still have mint M7 and mint M8 and those will be sold to fund next flagship device of my choosing to buy off contract until I have my contract ready, or a new phone is out.
Personally, for me. I think I might deviate away from the HTC One series devices unless they make some serious design changes which I do not see. I don't truly have a need for the boomsound speakers and would give those up for a regular phone speaker and a smaller phone overall. (Just imagine the M8 without the top and bottom speakers, jeez, or even without the wasted htc logo bar) - sorry for off topic.
Dude, this is HTC WAY OF OPERATING. more than the others. I know, I was a huge HTC fanboy. I bought the Sensation, then 3 months in they announce Amaze...bought the One X only to hear DNA. I THINK THEY DEVELOP TWO at a time. I left for LG with the Nexus 4 then the G2, but get this, while waiting for the G3 I bought the M8 cause I couldn't wait any longer.
I'm big enough to say NO MATTER WHAT A COMPANY DOES WITH RELEASES I'M GONNA *****....I have a problem

I don't get it man. There are talks about the m9 but that doesn't mean that it's going to be released soon. The earliest would be around January. Talks are just talks and they're more than likely leaks.

Does the M9 you speak of make your current phone any less usable? I dont understand this way of thinking. You could wait for this new phone but then again you might as well just keep waiting from now on because there's always something better down the line. Enjoy what you have.
Samsung, HTC, and Apple all release one phone a year in its line (ex Galaxy S). So the M9 in Q1 of 2015 is right on schedule. You're mad about that? I bet the iPhone 7 will be out summer 2015... Doesn't mean people won't buy the 6 this summer.

Not mad at all. Such is life in this fast-paced world of technology.
the only thing i am angry about is the stupid black htc bar what a waste of real estate. I do witsh his thing had a 5.3 inch screen. then it would be perfect. its super fast no lag and it looks cool. o ya and it has s-off
