LGE-p500
Ubuntu for android is not yet released.
There are discussions and probably alphas or even betas but only for multicore devices and none released to the general public.
---------- Post added at 05:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:27 PM ----------
My bad. there is Ubuntu for android but I think that the multicore condition remains and our phones can't run it
Check this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_for_Android
lg p500 cant meet the ubuntu's requirements.
It needs multicore... but it can RUN, not as fast, but it does... If there was a dual core 100 MHz CPU that would meet the requirements, according to you...
Sent from my LG-P500
No use of putting Ubuntu on O1. If you had devices like S2 etc.. you would use all its features!!

But there are no 100MHz dual-core
Anyway, yeah, I agree with you. I think it'd run even if not fast enough.
As I recall, Debian runed ok on my O1
I don't think that is practical, given the specs and especially the screen size.

True, screen size is problem for ubuntu 12.04, but not that big for 11.04... but worth a try anyways

I remember having read somewhere that arm device support is dropped since one of the available ubuntu version from "Complete Linux Installer" but debian worked...

correct me if i am wrong but for PC User (x86) there is only Android 2.2 available, not ICS, so please edit the thread title !

I've tried the 1.6 and 2.2 release on my ASUS Eee PC 900 a while back, having ICS on it might be fun (for a bit). I'll definitely give this a try.
The iso files are hybrid format. That means you can dump the iso into a usb drive and get a bootable usb stick.

The ubuntu help pages have some great tips for creating bootable USB sticks from ISOs:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick
So it's only x86 processors? Or any intel processor? Because I have an i7-2600k which is obviously x64 based, however I don't see why I couldn't install an x86 android on it, as you can install 32bit windows on it.
I burned it on CD, nothing happens, no installation window appear?
working great on VMware 8, actually better. because you have Internet connectivity with virtual pc.

So, I recently rooted my kindle fire, yay!
But, as a computer programmer I was thinking... could there be an easier way?
So I thought of this, what if I were to make a really nice GUI that is just a few simple button clicks to root something? I mean, how many of you would use it?
It would work something like this:
You select your device OS and its driver from a list your given.
You can select from some premade roots, like Basic Root (basic, no ROMs, no recovery), Medium Root (recovery program, no ROM's pre-installed) , Great Root (choose your own ROM's [from the XDA site!!], recovery program, superuser, etc.) or Custom Root (choose what you install, incase you want one of everything).
Then, it fetches your requested ROM's, and roots your device. No ugly console, simple fast and easy.
Also, it would eliminate human error. It would do the correct procedure every time, the first time. No more complaints, and great for the noobs!!
So, would YOU use it?!?!?

SuperOneClick is easy to use. you just have to press 1 button and its done but i guess it does not work for all devices.

kinda no. you could set up a public poll for preferred roms. the program/app will simply fetch it for you from the download link of a limited number of top roms.
@OP what exactly do you have in mind? A program for PC or a app on phone?

First off, THANK YOU ALL FOR POSTING HERE!!!
Second off, question time
It would be both PC and on the device. For the device version, you would select your device upon downloading, not in app. On the PC version, it would be all inclusive.
Both of them would download only ROM's that the developers (me and friend) support and/or use!
Not all the ROM's would be supported In-App, but you could use custom ones if you want.
Ah OK. Tbh, people should be able to vote for ROMS.

No they shouldn't. It's not like me and you have the same personalities. It causes fights too.
I think Adam Outler is working on a software which does everything. From installing necessary drivers to rooting the device. It's called Causal. I think its currenly of Note 2, but give that a try.

no..why would they fight. just make a public poll in respective forum and do not allow anybody to make posts in that thread.
instead of public poll just put in an option to choose rom.. (put in the link, the app/program downloads it and installs), or better still link to tapatalk!!
on ther note, someone made a device where u just plug in ur smartphone(android) and push button it will recognize and apply specific root procedure.... dont remember exactly what it was(someone from xda made it )

All devs are trying . Very few devs have a sound knowledge of kernel devolopment. After varun left our forum the original android devolopment section was almost dead. After that so many kernel sources were discovered, but no one to try them out. Devs are trying to port 4.2 by reverse engeneering the a116 rom. Be patent please. No hope for cm, pa, aospa, aokp withour varun working for us.
Indeed it's a shame that only Varun has threads created in the Original Android Dev section! Seem's no one else has any idea about Kernel Development..!
i know some guide to how to compile a kernel... if someone has fast internet connection should try... at least someone try if get stuck in problem we can contact some kernel devs to fix the problem

The ROM i posted in the the first post don't have SELINUX support, but this has:
https:// mega.co.nz /#!j9AA3JTK!9O0m8Ko7HXpsJk2JKUyS5dSj3otaSVF7SHCDZblT3tQ (added spaces in URL, is i can't post links with below 10 posts )
It based upon xiaolvmu's kernel and got f2fs and SELINUX support. However there is a bug where it fails to restore the /system partition. I don't know the reason for that.
Also, i haven't tested it with non-f2fs ROMs, but it will probably work.
It is compiled using commit 5d30a5f377c229864964f9a5712156843c685be7 of xiaolvmu's device tree, and commit 1091546ae2e8d3f0212389855f0792cc9ad6adf7 of his kernel.
About developing for the villec2: I don't really have any experience at linux kernel developing or android android development in general, so i don't know how much progress i would be able to make.
Maybe i will take a look at it in about a months time. I have exams the 18th of June, and afterwards I'm going to a music festival until 6th of July, so i will probably not look at it before that.
