Why d2vzw? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Probably a really stupid question but why is it called the d2vzw? Vzw makes sense but why d2?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Simple. Because the reason why they call it that is because that is what they wanted it to be called.

From what I heard, its Samsung's naming convention, they went with d2 for reasons unknown, these phone are part of the "d2" family. All the U.S. variants are named that way d2att, d2tmo, d2spr

Does your town have a tall bridge?
people are dying senselessly around the world, and you are complaining that you don't have a silly ROM? really?
don't mean to be such a downer, but folks need to be more thankful with what they've got rather than worried about the things that they don't have.
Oh **** off I was just hoping someone would have some news with a new ics or jb ROM.
And I honestly don't care about people dying, unless its my family. And, I want what I want.

Get Tweaked 2.2. It runs great. Gingerbread runs fine as long as it's not loaded with Verizon bloatware.
Your over inflated sense of entitlement is disgusting. You aren't special haha

You have the opportunity to root that Charge and flash custom roms and kernels and tweak it into a cool phone. You can get rid of the poop and puke color scheme and have it looking pretty much any way you want. It's really great for that.

I love how everyone always assumes that it's Samsung's decision. It isn't, or at least it isn't completely their decision. They're at the mercy of the chipset maker as to what they can release...they're using proprietary VIA code, and it's up to them as to how much Samsung is even allowed to release.
Bet Verizon is part of the problem as well.

JB for certain (AOSP was too large). For ICS, they were at minimum saying that OS plus TouchWiz would be too much, let alone after VZW adds all of their bulk.
This is sad news, especially when this p.o.s can get ICS, and the charge cannot. Makes me even more regretful for buying my charge for 300.

Its not up to you whether someone wants to run windows 8 on their android phone. I know it wouldn't be possible but I would love to try it on the S3. Personally I prefer flashing different os's instead of ROMs. Roms can only change so much.

The hd2 was a windows phone.. Its mostly a copyright and license issue.. You'll never see a windows ROM on an android phone, only vice versa.. There was a big discussion back in the day about this when I was on the Raphael forums.. Microsoft surprisingly looks at this stuff
On a side note there is a win 7/8 launcher in the play store.. It looks pretty decent too

Yes it would be very cool; if only from a novelty standpoint. But it isn't going to happen for many reasons including hardware, licensing, IP, and the DMCA and its chilling effect upon research in a legal gray-area.

Platform and kernel source for Jellybean released (VRBLK3)

http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=i535
It's pretty much 98% the same as Sprint, but there are differences in the buildconfig.
Pro tip: Samsung is eager to give you sources once an OTA comes out. Don't bother doing FOSS requests for leaks.

Not on a US model, it's been released on some international models though

I wouldn't expect Premium Suite until March or something.
Will this help people developing AOSP ROMs like CM10.1 or AOKP or will this mostly be of help to TW ROM makers? Mainly asking as I am debating between keeping my Nexus or GS3 aand at this point I am leaning towards Nexus because CM10.1 runs better on it, but if this will help us maybe the GS3 will surpass the Nexus.
Looks like there might be a quicker fix coming for premium
http://www.android.gs/update-galaxy-s3-official-jelly-bean-4-1-2-xxell4-premium-suite/
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
That's for the international model which has completely different hardware.
No North American S3 can use that.
Porting is very impractical if not outright impossible. People have tried, it can't be done.

You guys think we'll get Ubuntu phone OS?

Not really a big deal but it would be cool to see on our skyrocket. Our developers are so awesome so it wouldn't surprise me to see it. Getting it on nexus 7 and would love to have it on both.

Honestly probably not; and I think it's a gimmick at the moment. A phone entirely controlled by gestures? Sounds great in theory, but not great in practice

one word: BB10, blackbery's new os is entirely gesture drive
but we don't have enough devs for a port of something like this, its massive... I truly believe that unless a device with similar chip set/CPU gets it we likely won't. Don't get me wrong our devs are great, just few
Would be nice, as would Firefox OS but i'm more hot for Ubuntu for Android as that would finally rid me of having a technically unnecessary pc
I use a gesture based OS on my blackberry playbook daily. It is incredibly smooth when done correctly. If Ubuntu does it correctly, then I wouldn't mind having it ported. If it's done badly, then it just wouldn't be worth it.

Working on porting it now actually if git servers ever decide to sync.
I hope it's easy to do. I love android but I've always wanted to try a different operating system. Not gonna make it permanent but it'd be cool to use sometimes. Anyone know if you can back it up with recovery and restore it later? I'll ask over in the nexus 7 forums as well.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
You can if you make a flashable zip. Installing via bootstrapper deletes everything iirc.
Cannocal has already made a flashable zip for the nexus devices. You have to fastboot flash a .img file.
