How long is the cord? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is the charging cable long enough for you to use the device while charging it?
My Note phone cord was short as heck, but it is micro-usb so I just bought a new cord. This one is proprietary though, and wont be as easy to fix.
***EDIT***
Oops, saw elsewhere that it's the standard 3ft cord. Who in the #### ever thought that was a good idea

You can still buy a cord easily because the same one is used for all Galaxy Tab series.
Edit: And you can always buy a standard USB extension cord.

And there are plenty and a few more cables available on eBay.

Hahaha, thanks for your thread, never ceases to amaze me what some people have issues with. The charging cord is not long enough? Come on bro, buy the damn thing you know you want to. Dont let a 3ft cord be the culprit in not having an amazing tablet like this. :victory:

[Q] another power chord thread

I don't have the tf yet, but will be getting one in the future.
I've read about the power chord being very short, and wonder if i should get a usb 3 male to female extension chord.
I have an ipad, not the ipad 2, and the power chord is pretty short, so how does the tf's power chord compare to the ipad's.
I ordered one for a few dollars from Hong Kong. Just got word that it has been shipped, it will be here in 15-25 business days.. lol
It's not manageable, the way I see it. Basically, if you're charging your unit, in most cases you will not be able to use it. You have to see right beside the charger. It's super short. Shortest charging cable I've ever had. The 3 extra feet from the extension will work wonders.

If you're charging it just use an extension cord. Now plugging it in for data is a different story. I just use a USB hub. Not a big deal at all.
just a heads up...
When I plug my USB extension cable in it won't charge. I'm not sure if its just my cable or if it can't send all that power that far over USB. Hopefully its just my cable...

Interesting... that's what I was hoping. Time to get another then... although I have questioned my Asus cable itself, as it seems rather... finicky with charging in general.

All this talk about chord's makes me want to play my guitar.
Try with a USB 3.0 cable, not 2.0.

You didn't state the extension was a USB3 cable, it does need to be, as both the Transformer and the USB3 standard use extra pins (though they use the pins differently)
Exactly what kind of cable is it? My TF is out for delivery right now so I haven't seen it yet. There has to be some 3rd party cables out there.
I have a usb 3 cable on order from ebay, only a couple of quid, hoping that might do the trick until asus release official ones.
For anyone who is looking at rearranging their computer/bedroom/life around their forthcoming Transformer, the cable is.......let me see.....exactly 94cm (37in) long.
Just about long enough from your average plug socket to the top of a table - JUST!
Would something like this work?

Battery suddenly dead on both dock and tablet

Until yesterday, my TF700 was working perfectly fine, but now I'm concerned as the battery in both the dock and the tablet have stopped working.
The AC adaptor's connected to the dock and I always charged both the tablet and the dock together for the most part.
I went to check the device this morning and suddenly found that they're not working at all.
Yesterday evening, I tried switching on the tablet and it would switch on and reach the ASUS screen, but not fully boot up.
I bought it from Amazon's Amazon Warehouse division and I have until the 31st to return this, but in the meantime, I'd like to know why the batteries have died on me suddenly and is there anything I can do about it.

If it's a genuine hardware failure, you'd have to return -- unless you're very proficient at handling and replacing sensitive electronics yourself (microwelding, for example).
It has been reported before, and could be fixe din almost every case by letting the 700 be dead for at least an hour, and then let it fully charge while off (!) -- just let it sit hoked up to the wall charger for at least 8 hours. Then try to turn it on again.
Good luck.

I'll give that advice of yours a try especially as I don't want to have to return it if it's something that can be easily sorted out.

It never hurts trying -- you aren't exactly the first to describe this, but luckily, pretty much all of the others were saved.
I finally managed to get the problem sorted out as it seems that the connection to the port on the keyboard had somehow come a bit loose without me noticing it.
Unfortunately, I have a new problem in that the cable itself seems to have died in that it won't work any more with the adapter as it started crackling a bit when I knocked the connector attached to the AC adaptor itself gently by accident. :crying:

Well, I hope I am right in assuming this is not your luckiest week, huh? Is the cable damaged near the wall charging part? (That's what I understand.) The replacement cables probably are not that expensive, so I'd plonk down on a new one instead of initiating "daredevil repair mode".
Saying that gives me that MacGyver feeling. Duct tape and a pair of scissors would be all that he needs to fix this.
Oh, and maybe a pair of toothpicks and an old sock, just for looks.

The cable itself is fine (it's not worn down to the wire literally like a lot of cables and AC adapters you get for devices like iPods and Galaxy S II's), it's just that it has this weird burnt-like smell at the end connector that plus into the USB socket on the AC adaptor.
As for replacement cables, I'm surprised that they're not that easy to buy offline.

Agreed -- buying them offline is a definite hassle. I have seen them online, though, and you can even hunt down the charger parts or the TF101 and TF201 Prime. They will work flawlessly.
BTW and FWIW (gotta love acronyms), my charging cable smells a bit funny at the end too. This specific one has to put through a lot of power, so I'm not even that surprised.

In all seriousness though, I love my TF700, it's just a shame that it's such a pain in the ass (not literally!) to buy official accessories in the shops and it's not as if you can buy a USB cable for it in the shops unlike ones for the iPod, iPad and iPhone.

Just giving you guys a update concerning my device: It seems now that both batteries don't want to work any more for some reason or other as of yesterday. I've checked both the official USB cable and a third-party cable plugged into the official USB plug and they're not charging up the device at all.
The tablet can connect to my laptop as a media device without any problems, but I'm confused as to why it's not working at all when plugged into a USB adapter.
In any case, I'm going to order a AC adapter from eBay later today and see if that works or not.

Charging port pins lifting

Hi I noticed a while ago that pin 30 on my charging port of my tablet was lifted some so I pushed it down with a toothpick. There wasnt an issue with the tablet before, it was just something I noticed. I ordered a cable from ebay, probably a knock off, and it worked for both charging (with the use of the p1000 adapter) and for data transfer. I was using the tablet mostly for debugging and movies. I recently had it charging for a while using the rocketfish usb hub and the p1000 adapter. I tried to plug in my tablet to the pc with and without the adapter and my pc was telling me that it had an unknown device plugged in. I looked up what exactly pin 30 was and it is a ground pin. My question is would that pin affect the ability for the pc to data transfer and recognize the device? The cable currently only works for charging and that is with or without the P1000 adapter. Other than that it gives me an unknown device when plugged into the pc. I dont have another tablet or cable to test so I may just order an official cable and charger if the ground shouldnt be an issue.
Have you installed Kies? Windows cannot recognize samsung galaxy devices without it
My cable stopped charging all together. I ordered another data cable to see if my original cable was faulty. Hopefully that was the problem all along.
I got my new cable in which btw is alot more sturdier than the last. I plugged it in anticipating an error and behold! My pc recognized my tablet and began to charge. The data part works because it instantly showed that the tablet was in debug mode. So my pins were not a problem, just my cheap chinese tablet cable. P.S. I did not have to install that software and if in the future I come across a problem then I will try out the software. Unless there is a benefit to installing the samsung software? feels like an iTunes type of software. Thanks for the suggestions and hopefully this will help others in the future.

Thank you for posting your fix for your question. It drives me crazy when people ask a question. Then later reply nvm I figured it out. (And don't explain what they did) or not even reply at all.
I think I have same issue. My stock cable won't charge anymore. Do you have a link where you bought new charger? Or what store did you go to?
I ordered one from amazon and it was a knockoff that gets a red x over battery icon :/

No I order this combo kit with wall charger, car charger and 30 pin USB cable. From amazon
Weird cause the car charger works amazing. Can watch Netflix w/ full brightness and still charge. While the wall charger will only charge if shut down
But about original charger. I was mistaken. I had a 6ft. Extention cord that I would plug it into cause original cord is way to short. And come to find out it was the extention causing the issue.
But I'm still interested in a Spare wall charger that actually works. Lol where did you get yours. Is it just as good as stock

Well technically the extention cord isn't putting out the same amount of amps as the wall outlet. Especially when the gauge of the wire is way smaller most likely. But I like to use my tablet while charger and refuse to 3ft away from wall so its kinda neccessary lol

Samsung Galaxy phone cable

I see there are posts case , charger and etc, but no post about cable, including charging cable, data cable, OTG cable.
Which cable is the best you find?
For charging, the original charger with fast charging from Samsung. You can also get it the fast charging car adapter.

No, there're ton of alternative. Many cables that I already have work fine with QC 2.0.
I don't mean to butt in but I see this topic is about charging cables and was wondering what is a good thick charging cable that would last a long time. It seems all the cables i had the ends that plug into the phone would stop working like either it would not stay plug in or just won't charge anymore and the cable it's self would start to come apart from bending over time.
Ya i dont think the op was asking about actual cargers but the cable itself. I got this same charger off ebay and the cable is great. The little led lights up as soon as u touch the actual micro usb section so u can see to plug it in in the dark. It only lights up when u are touching it with your hands. Cable is nice and long and seems to be holding up great.

Droidmodderx just reviewed a great aftermarket cable that would work fine with our phone on YouTube it's a hybrid cable that plugs into a phone either way no more needing to check which way is up anymore and it's non tangle durable material. Just search that name on YouTube and watch his review
https://youtu.be/x4bHKpa-3QA here's that sweet after market cable review. Definitely buying this if one of my cords takes a dump
I used to think all USB cables were the same and paying more for one was a waste of money. But I was so wrong. A quality cable gives faster charging and better data performance alongside a more durable construction.
I use and recommend Volutz branded cables. They aren't actually that much more expensive and buying a 'pack' of them off Amazon worked out exceptional value. I have had no issues on the S6 Edge+ with them at all

USB C Retractable Cables - Anyone?

I know it is early in the switch to USB C, but has anyone seen retractable USB C cables yet? I hate taking full size cables with me traveling or with my backup battery, and like to use these in my car so they are always out of the way when not in use. I'm just starting to look, but I can't be the only one that uses these.
There's always the option of getting a Micro-USB to Type-C converter, and using your existing retractable cables.
That's what I'm going to do for the mean time for sure, I just figured crowdsourcing folks looking for these things is better. Always worried I'll lose the adapter when I need it the most.
Found one, kind of. It has an adapter on the cable. Still looking though.

Any more luck on sourcing retractable USB-Cs? I'm in the same boat.
I haven't looked in a bit, but thanks for reminding me.
FUnny, I've only used my backup battery 2 times since I got this phone, to charge overnight when I was at a hotel and when I forgot to charge my phone one night. I may not need this anymore as I just can't kill this phone.

Problem with retractable cables is they aren't very good quality and I'm going to guess most of the retractable USB-C retractable that come out of China won't be compliant.
A better option might be to get a good USB-C cable and wind it in one of these to make your own retractable cable......
