So if you think you can unlock the bootloader and you come to lkrasner and or I for help, you will have to include us in your bounty.
If you use my zip to unlock the BL, then you will get 40% of the money.
If you ask either lkranser or I for help then that means you are including the WHOLE A2 dev team in your bounty, because we are working and have been working on this as a team for quite some time.
If you do not like the conditions above, then make your own zip and handle the unlock on your own!
I added the call for help to my thread in the android general section. I'll link this with it.

I don't know if anyone else seen this article, http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articl...alaxy-s3-verizon-bootloader-unlocked-code.htm , but it supposedly has the code for the locked Verizon bootloader. I have no idea how to interpret this or if its even helpful to the devs, I just thought I would post it in hopes someone can unlock the bootloader lol.
http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=i535 is the link contained in the article that has the zip file for the source code.

Are you on the lastest 2.20 firmware but still have pesky root, SuperCID and a unlocked bootloader. The following tutorial will help you remove those notrocious mods and get your phone back to a state approved by HTC and At&t!
Pre-requisites
Your original mmcblk0p4 that has not been modified.
Latest 2.20 firmware ruu
Adb/fastboot
Desire to not be able to do crap with your HTC One X
Now, that you have the pre req's together and you've decided that youll never have any fun with your One X again, lets get started.
Take your original mmcblk0p4 that you dd'ed to gain superCid, open it in your hex editor and verify it is the unmodified file. No SuperCid. Place it on the root of your internal sdcard.
Open up a command prompt, CD to your adb dir and type
adb shell
su
You now have those pesky root priveleges that we need to eraste(<<<inside joke)
Now type
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
Ok that fixes the notrocious superCid mod exploited by the hackers. Next exit out of adb shell and navigate back to your adb folder.
Type
adb reboot bootloader
Once phone is in bootloader and you see fastboot usb appear on device type
Fastboot devices
You should see a readout with your devices s.n. Now for these last steps we want to make sure you have a CUSTOM recovery. This will ensure that you CANNOT revert back once you do the next steps.
Ok, now in cmd window type
fastboot oem lock
BAM! Your bootloader is now locked and the onky way to reboot device is by now running the 2.20 Ruu. Ruu will ensure any traces of pesky root are permanently erased. Also, your unlock token unfairly obtained from htcdev is now invalid and wilk not unlock your device. With no current 2.20 root exploit you can now rest assured your device meets the standards put forth by HTC and AT&T. You will now use your device only as directed by manufacturer and carrier.
Last step
Be sure to pitch in your extra cash to the s off bounty as you may very well be needing it:beer:

Root is a dangerous security risk. This guide will help noobs through the process of removing it, and ensuring it never shows back up. Kudos to 18th.abn for taking the time to write this guide!
Lol I think we're on the outside of a very funny inside joke here.

You would be surprised the amount of people against this, some even believe we cause issues for them in ways
Except why would they need a custom recovery?

yeees, but the ONLY reason to really unroot is for warranty purposes (even though they have to fix your phone even if it is rooted)
Will my bootloader say re locked?

STILL just a "general" forum. This thread is to help those that exploited their phones and later realized the security risks they imposed on their devices. It will hopefully decrease the development on this device and bring awareness to the extreme risks people take when exploiting security flaws.

Yes it will!
Also your unlock token will no longer work and you will not be able to properly exploit htcdev to retrieve another one. You will be fully protected

You sir are a great asset to this forum. These security risks are very scary, it's good to know there are people like you out there that are willing to help n00bs like me to keep the walls up around my phone as high as possible.
Quick question- Do you think it's safe to download apps from the Play Store? I have heard there are lots of bad viruses going around.
I'm now running this new condom mod. Maybe I should delete my xda account now to ensure my full protection.
Hey,
I'm offering a $20 bounty to whoever would like to have a Skype chat with me (video preferably) and help me root/unlock bootloader/flash a rom. I come from the land of jailbreaking iPhones and this whole root stuff seems a hella more complicated.
Here is my situation:
I am updated to the latest version of android (4.0.4) with the latest OTAs from Verizon. My baseband is the latest VRLG7 version. I would like someone who has gone through this whole process or someone with credibility on XDA.
There is so much compatibility checks that you must do that it is too hard for a newbie like me to risk my $600+ device.
I am running stock TouchWiz with no mods or root or anything.
Please reply and I will PM you shortly.
Thanks!
There is still the option of posting your doubts here on XDA, and paying nothing..
If you are still unsure of what you are doing, then perhaps you should read up on this stuff, and maybe even watch some videos on people doing things like this. Modifications to the firmware of the phone should not be attempted unless you know what you are doing.
I would help you for free. But I'm at work for another five hours. So I'm no help right now.
There's a root tool you can use.
From there, use unlock boot loader app from market.
Install Rom manager. Flash recovery.
Install room as needed. I have files at home to use. I can upload them later.
There are guides all over the forum. Look in the development section.

Biggest mistake you can make is to pay someone else to walk you thru this and in the process, learn nothing about your new phone.
Everything you need is in these forums. Read all the stickies ... read them again ... and then, again. Rooting and unlocking your bootloader are pretty much one click propositions.
Then, when you are ready to play with root privileges, you will understand modems, kernels, ROMs, rom themes, build.prop tweaks, etc. ... and won't do something stupid, like trying to flash an I9300 ROM to your I535.

Yes, everything you need is in these forums, but I could definitely see it being more reassuring, less stressful, and less time consuming to have someone explaining the process as it's happening. Hands on learning and instruction.
The fact that he is willing to pay someone $20 for their time and expertise is pretty cool of him. A lot of users on here just expect tech support for free, lol.
If you still want a live walk through, I'd do it.

I completely understand the fear. I've been rooting and roming since the Original Droid and I still get nervous each time I try doing it with a new phone. However some amazing people here put together some truly impressive tools and tutorials. Follow them step by step and you'll succeed. Destroying the phone to a point where it's not fixable is usually not that easy.
Personally I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 and everything was SUPER easy.
Once you do it a few times you really do lose the fear, in my case it always comes back with each new phone.
Just for the record, I'm very happy with my S3 and the only reason I even rooted was to make it not turn on when the home button was pressed. I had it in a pouch and it kept getting pressed in my pocket.
Wow. Just a few hours and I got PM's from people showing me how to do it all for free. You guys are truly amazing. It's so great that we have such a large community on XDA with such helpful and supportive people.
My new reasons that people should switch to android.
1. Great OS with endless customization
2. A rock star community of wonderful people
Thanks so much guys.

All the info you might want in re rooting the Charge & the current (& most likely, permanent) top of the heap ROM, Tweaked 3.x, installation and maintenance, is located in the OP for Tweaked. You might have to do a little research but I'm here to tell you, as much as the Charge could be a pain in the butt and locked down with proprietary crapware, it is incredibly easy to root and update as you want.
One of the things you will find in this forum is that the people here will be happy to help. Please, in the meantime, be sure to properly thankful when someone does.
Good luck! I loved my Charge and found it to be an excellent phone. For all its faults, it's a great intro into Rooting / ROMing, relatively difficult to "brick," and, like I've pointed out, an active community of users who like to be helpful.

So I have an interesting dilemma and would like some feedback on this.
I would like to get S-off on my verizon M8 to be able to install Xprivacy or Cm11 once its been tested a little more. Obviously I do this for control of my information and privacy.
With the Verizon M8 the only way to get S-off that I'm aware of is using weaksause and firewater.
Both of these tool are closed source. I give the developers mad props for making these tools and helping out the community but for someone like my I really have an issue with running closed source tools that are getting that deep on my phone.
I'm not a fan of using closed source tools which is why I like Cm and Xprivacy but I can understand with the phone being so new why the developers would leave these tools closed source. However I also know that there could be other reasons too.
Would waiting for a potential open source option be worth it?
Thanks for any input.
Not worth the wait. Jcase has been doing this stuff for over 4 years.
Posting the exploit as open source can burn potential exploits in the future.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Posting source for an exploit is like giving a police officer your plans for robbing a bank or a prison guard your map for your plan on escaping.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Thanks for the feedback.
I still think i'm going to hold out a little longer to see if there is a manual method that comes out but at least I know that the community supports the current methods.
They receive money from donations, they have no intention of harming your phone or invading your privacy. As someone mentioned, it's closed source mainly to avoid getting the exploit patched. Plus the way I see it is that open source is good for large projects that require a lot of people to contribute, something that's sole purpose is to exploit a device doesn't need any further input once it's goal is achieved.

If you are still that concerned, After your'e done with S-off:
1. Flash the 1.55... OTA.
2. Fastboot flash custom recovery you build yourself from source.
3. (optional) Flash a ROM you build yourself from source.
This will get you a unit that has literally all segments either overwritten with OEM partitions or source built.
If you are downloading the OTA from XDA and are concerned about authenticity, run the OTA once before you S-off. If it was modified, its signature check will fail.
I really appreciate the great feedback everyone!
Since TWRP is open source I really have no issue with the recovery but your advice provided me with the info I needed.
I never even thought about flashing OTA after s-off! :highfive:
