Boot Animations? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Well after being on ios for 2 years its safe to say im new to the rooting scene on android. Regardless i am rooted and am running the latest synergy rom on my vzw gs3. I understand boot animations dont usually work on my device. How could i go about getting them to work. The developer told me it is possible to get them working. Thanks in advance!

On stock, it's not exactly a breeze. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1829363

I am using synergy 1.2? Whatever the latest version of the rom is thats what im on.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

Synergy is based on stock and as such is subject to the same restricitions in this case. See the thread I linked.

Oh ok. I'll give you a thanks when i get on my desktop. Idk how to on this app. Also just for future reference are there any roms with non stock kernals? Sorry if my terminology is wrong.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium

This phone hasn't had what you might call a normal development cycle. New kernels are just starting to come around since the bootloader just got unlocked. I know of one stock based kernel right now. See here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/31329-kerneltouchwiz-leankernel-minimalistic-kernel-819-v022/
YOU WILL NEED TO UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER FIRST. There's an app in the market for that.

Yes so many ICS roms yet they ain't stable for DD right? Also feel so dumb and totally forgot the the rocket has nfc. So far reading no ics rom has that working correct? I'm assuming that one we get a official release of ICS then nfc should work?

1) nfc works
2) many people use it as a dd, no fcs or instabilities, just a few tiny bugs, that may or may not annoy (shutdown/reboot anyone?)

As well as the ROMS this "all in one location" helped me it links how to Root (different methods) one click works best for me, talks about kernals, ODIN return to stock, and much more.
As always READ READ READ. I read for about 2 months. Was rooted, downloaded an app that borked my modem. Knew exactly where to go to return to stock......
OK have to look at it ICS some more just loving alien#6 to much with faux kernel!

[Q] Flashing ROMs to rooted Atrix 2 running official 2.3.6

Hey Motorola Atrix 2sers!
You guys have a great device! I have a Samsung Infuse 4G but I'm working with my Dad's Motorola Atrix 2 on AT&T and he's running the newest official release of Gingerbread 2.3.6 from AT&T (OTA as I believed its called)
I just rooted it today using the one click method and I attained root completely fine. Superuser and a few other root-only apps work perfectly.
Now my Dad wants ICS on it and I have a few questions:
1) I can't find the ICS ROM leak though I've seen it mentioned multiple times. Can someone redirect me please?
I found a version of CM9 here (actually, it looks just like what I'm running on my Infuse) but I don't know if it's legit. (http://droidsans.com/node/80867) This link came from a thread started in the Development section in the forum here for this device (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781177)
I'd prefer the official leak I keep seeing mentioned to this sketchier CM9 but I'd be fine using CM9 if it's verified to run smoothly. I need a ROM that is as functional for day to day use as possible; I am not, nor will I pretend to be, a developer (And by the way, I'd like to take this as a moment to thank all the developers that make these projects and modifications a reality. You guys rock)
2) I ran into a problem getting Clockwork as the recovery mode. I used a method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346977) involving installing an app called Atrix 2 Bootstrapper and simply selecting the reboot recovery option while running the app. When I selected that option, the phone just rebooted normally.
From searching around, I think this has to do with the bootloader being locked, but I can only find a way to unlock the bootloader for the atrix 4G, and I don't wanna risk bricking since I'm working with the Atrix 2. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871&highlight=automatic) Will this 4G method work?
3) Would I be OK just flashing this version of ICS (or any, ROM for that matter) onto the device through the stock Recovery mode? If I use the volume up/down & power button method, enter recovery, and press up/down volume again, I'm able to enter a form of Recovery that appears similar to Clockwork. Is this okay to use for flashing any ROM onto the device?
4) Would I need to flash the Google apps as well? Play store, maps...etx...If so, where could I find a package for them?
I realize it's a lot of super specific questions, and I apologize if they've been answered, but I've combed every relevant thread I could find.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
1) Stay on 2.3.6 for now since we can't go back from ICS.

He really wants ICS, the question of going back isn't really an issue. But wouldn't I be able to return to stock with an FXZ (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650&highlight=clockwork+recovery) anyway?
Regarding the Bootstrapper: No, it did not work just fine. I tried it multiple times, but each time I selected "reboot recovery" it would just reboot normally.

FXZ from ICS to GB will have a 99% chance of bricking. So if you mess up your are stuck.

Since the Atrix Bootstrapper app isn't working for me, can I use the stock recovery mode I mentioned before to flash the PB Zip? It appears I have no way to get into Clockwork.

Are you sure your Dad's phone is an MB865, and not an ME865?
If it is an ME865 that might be why it is not working... most of the things in here have really been setup or tested on the MB865 for AT&T USA models, somethings work on other versions of the A2 but not everything.

I'm absolutely certain my Dad's phone is the Motorola Atrix 2 on AT&T and I live in the U.S.
Is it because of the locked boot loader maybe? Maybe that's why the Atrix Bootsrapper app isn't working to get me into clockwork...?

Rooting Samsung Sgh-I896 on Rogers in canada

Hey everyone
I have been tiring to look up how to root my Samsung SGH-I896 that is on Rogers in Canada but have haven't been able to find and think that matches my phone info. I will list my firmware and other info if some can point me in the right way that would be nice.
Model = SGH-I896
Frimware = 2.3.3
Kernel version = 2..35.7-i896uxkh2-cl296008
Build number = GINGERBREAD.UXKH2
Thanks
I have the same phone and believe me it's not as easy as it is for the us users. Rogers actually takes code off the phone so that it's harder to root or unlock. I had to factory reset and use an at&t software instead of Rogers. After that everything was easy. Use one click root or anything like it

I dont recall having any issues with rooting my phone back in the day. I recall being able to use superoneclick to get the job done on stock gingerbread.
Although if you are planning on installing a rom on your phone then root isnt required. Just flash CWM and then flash a rom. The roms come with root already installed on it.
I have tried super oneclick and it hang up at step 7 but maybe iam doing something wrong. I will try again later tonight. Thanks alot guys

I used Superoneclick with both Froyo and Gingerbread stock Rogers versions and it rooted just fine. Just need to follow the instructions.
I think for Froyo you had to do some really stupid stuff, like plug it in and take it back out 2-3 times but other than that it always worked great.
Worked so well I even made a donation to the developer.
If it hangs on you, I would suggest reading the thread to see if somebody developed a method that works. My Froyo image wouldn't root so I read the Rogers captivate thread and somebody posted telling me how to unplug and plug it back in, worked well.
I think I might have screwed up... I installed the unzipped ROM onto my external SD rather than the zipped one... what do I do now???

Best way to update??

Okay, I read on here every day on my cell and can't find the answer to my question. I, like alot of people have a stock, rooted, unlocked phone and want to update to the latest OTA. I would like to, if possible, do this without Odin.
I was wondering if they're was a file like Scott's stock Rom that could be dirty flashed over stock without any problems? If there is no other way, I plan on using Odin to get back to stock after I relock the bootloader, take the update, and then reroot, unlock, etc.
The big reason that I would rather do it without the computer is that I am on the road 90% of the time and don't have access to a computer. I depend on my phone for GPS as well as entertainment, so being without my phone isn't an option for me. Are there any options?

Did you just wipe cache and dalvik cache or do a full wipe?
What I ended up doing was a full wipe and flashed CleanROM 2.5, which is based on the new VRLG7 updates. Then I flashed the new VRLG7 radio form here:

It blocks a security issue and is different framework from what I understand. I would lock the bootloader, unroot, OTA, and then redo everything but will not be around a computer until tomorrow at the best.

After reading the posts on Scott's CleanROM 2.5, that's what I am going to do this weekend. I will feel a lot better knowing I received the most up-to-date software from Samsung as the framework and then customize my phone the way I want. Plus, that's what a lot of the more experienced posters have been recommending, and for a noob like me, it would be dumb for me to not take their advice.
Thanks for getting back to me about the cache wiping question!
No worries, good luck!

[Q] Custom ROM Droid Maxx Developer Edition

I'm somewhat a noob to custom ROMs, and looking for a bit of information before I decide to flash a new one. I have a Verizon Droid MAXX Developer Edition (XT1080) with the current KitKat 4.4 installed. I'm looking to try the nightly CM11 out. I have already unlocked the bootloader, its not rooted just yet though.
In another forum thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2654816
A user posted a link to http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960dt (3 downloads, I'm not sure which one to choose for my device)
I'm wanting to know if this build would work on my phone before I flash and possibly mess something up, and also does Verizon work okay on this build. Is there anything else I should know before flashing a ROM (I'm somewhat tech savvy, so the process seems pretty straight forward, but any advice is appreciated)
I would have posted the question in that thread but I didn't want to break any rules, which says to Q/A here.

Obviously you need to have a custom recovery installed and get root. All three of those builds are for our phone. They are "nightlies" that get updated, well, nightly. I ran the 2/19 build for a little while and it worked pretty well. GPS was the only thing that didn't work and I think there is a work around for that. Active notifications and touchless controls are not part of cm.

I'm not worried about GPS or the Motorola controls.
Do you recommend a good recovery to flash? Also I've seen people posting problems when rooting this phone with 4.4 installed.
Any reason why you reverted back? Didn't like it?

I use TWRP. No problems rooting the Dev edition on 4.4 the problems are all with the consumer edition. I've never been a big CM fan plus I like having a working GPS, and I just didn't feel like going through the steps to get it working
CM seems to be good for my first custom ROM, but for future references do you recommend another ROM? I've seen that PACMAN ROM posted a bunch, but it looks pretty buggy.

CM 11 is pretty much it for our phones right now. You can flash the firmware for the Moto X and try those ROMs though.
One last thing as far as rooting goes. Do I use rock my moto to root. Also if I should decide to keep my stock ROM are there any advantages to rooting other than apps like titanium backup etc?

Read my thread

then try to install cyanogen (i already did)

So with xposed you can customize a current ROM without having to flash to cyanogenmod? I like the stock ROM but I'd like to be able to change certain designs (example: change the way my notification bar looks. Maybe battery icons and change menus within settings. Etc ) Just trying to really see the benefit of flashing another ROM if what I'm wanting to do can be done through a 3rd party program.

Just root and use xposed. I used to put custom ROMs on other phones. For this xposed is all that's necessary

When I first installed CM11 it looked almost exactly like my stock set up using the Google launcher and xposed. The only advantage CM provides that I can see is the ability to tweak the kernel settings, if you are into that sort of thing.

I appreciate all the help so far. I think I will try xposed out and see what I can tweak as far as display settings.
I'm assuming no custom recovery is required for this, only rooting. I like some aspects of cyanogenmod but for this also being my work phone, I don't want to risk messing up my network settings etc.
When you root, can you still update your stock OS? Or do you need to unroot before each update?
