I have cwm re overly installed. I flashed the touch version, but it doesn't stick. What's wrong?

It might be because we lack s off, I don't know, but can you try using fastboot and see if that works? There are guides about this in the dev section

if you want to go thru exact steps for cwm we can, but you need adb/fastboot working on your pc, and knowing how to use them. I won't have time tonite for a tutorial on that, but plenty of info out there.
also on phone make sure under settings/power fastboot is unchecked. if you are going to use fastboot to flash cwm you need usb debugging check under settings/dev options
easier way is to flash twrp recovery

mainly just download goo mananger from play store
open it
tap on menu, mine is the 3 dots
tap on Install OpenRecoveryScript
follow directions
with twrp you can flash radios and most roms without flashing kernel thru fastboot
always have a nandroid and sdcard bu before doing these things
Yes, I've done that already uh sing hassoons tool kit. Probably just stick with reg cwm. Not on recovery much anyways. Have used cwm for a couple years. I tried the twrp rec. For a few minutes.

Hi I have used the tool kit, but some of the recoveries there don't work. I found this file online after searching and it does work with my HTC One S. This is touch recovery, pretty good, actually.
You can just flash the .img file through:
a) adb command(fastboot), might be faster for you.
or
b) you can put this file(extract it first) into the "data" folder of the tool kit, but you will have to edit bat file to be able to integrate your new .img file with the UI. I did this way.

This link also have stock .img you might need in the future. I tried both the recovery and stock files, they both worked well.

You have. When you rooted your phone. Remember....just put your
"android-sdk-4windows" in your windows path to make this easier to remember from now on. Then you can take your "recovery.img" & place it in your windows root directory. [ C:\ ] (easier to find & delete once you've used it).
Plug in your phone, bring up a command window (cmd in the start command for windows) & type 'cd\' at the cmd line to take you back to the 'path'. There you type...
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery 'filename'.img
fastboot reboot
It'll tell you what it's doing and you'll see when you're done. NOOO problems.
Easy way. Download ROM manager via Play. Open it. It might ask you on 1st boot to flash CWM recovery. If it does let it flash it for you. Otherwise use the flash CWM option in the app. It does it all for you.

Then again......like Agent said....there IS the easy way. LOL
Are you backing up from ROM manager or from Recovery? If you are working from ROM Manager make sure that any spaces beteween the letters of named files are filled in with underscores. Such as CM9_Taco_Salad_on_a_Stick_Edition. If you can't get it to work from recovery you got problems and definitely need to reflash from ROM Manager.

It is team win recovery project . I believe you can be able to get online if you do a search . It is based on aosp recovery and has standard recovery options plus a few of their own options . Hope this helps and answers your questions. Just search team win recovery project and you can download from their site I believe.

What I really like about TWRP is that you could mount the sdcard; something you can't do with CWM.
Also some people reported that if your battery dies on you while on CWM, your phone might not charge at all and you will have a dead phone.

You can either
1- download the recovery.img and use fastboot to flash.
2- Easier just to use Goo Manager, Hit the menu button (or 3 dots) and choose
"Flash OpenRecovery"

Thanks I'm now on twrp so what's this thing that I don't need to install fastboot commands on computer ? Like boot.IMG ? And how would I do it straight of the phone would I have to put the IMG file on the sd card ?

CWM for some reason can not write to certain partitions, boot.img is one.
The boot.img is in the ROM and TWRP will flash it.
In case you want to use CWM, just extract the boot.img from the ROM file you download. Put it where fastboot can see it (usually where fastboot.exe is).
Run command

fastboot flash boot boot.img
After that is done boot into recovery and flash ROM

Yeah I know how to flash boot.img on the computer just wasn't sure how twrp did it still prefer cwm ui tho

I've got a Sensation (I think its a Phillipenes issue) which was upgraded to ICS 4.0.3.
Basically I've managed to complete HTC Dev Unlock, then a few days later I lost Wi-Fi connection, so have been trying to continue with installing a Custom (or even the original) ROM in an attempt to fix it.
I've now done Junoptobear to get true S-OFF
Got root access
But cant get Clockwork Mod to install in Recovery...
I've installed ROMmanager Premium and used it to install the latest Clockwork Mod - it states its downloaded and completed but when I go to the bootloader and select Recovery it flashes the white HTC screen for a brief second then back to the bootloader.
I've tried to manually download the Clockwork Mod file and install to Recovery but I get the same issue.
Does anyone have any ideas?? Many thanks!
Hi there you can install 4ext recovery you can get the file here in xda or even from the play store. Many of us use 4ext because it has many options and is very easy to use.personally I prefer 4ext. All I did was download from the play store and opened the app follow directions choose version of recovery and it will flash from the application. I was already rooted and soff when I did it but it's very easy to do. I really think you will like 4 ext recovery. You already have s OFF and root so it should not be a problem. Best of luck to you. Get the recovery from Cwm PG58IMG.zip and copy the img file to adb/fastboot folder and try these commands
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

I may be wrong but this sorta sonuds like a problem abother member was having the other day. I think they may not have a eng Hboot installed. Question why not just let them flash the recovery using the PG58IMG.zip via bootloader?

ClockWork Mod now installed in Recovery!
I have a HTC Inspire 4G, I got the bootloader unlocked and had it rooted. I had CWM Recovery on it that was like version 5.8 the one before that. I tried flashing a jellybean firmware, the phone never went by past the HTC white screen. I tried updating the recovery and it still didn't work. Right now my phone can only boot into hboot and that's still unlocked, but fastboot commands won't work, I can only flash new recoveries, but no ROMs actually get flashed. I tried using the PDimg thing for HBOOT to get back into full stock, I followed all the rules about going to ext3 (can't remember off the top of my head). It won't see the image, I've tried everything out there. ADB won't see the device unless in recovery mode, fastboot won't work, except to flash new recoveries.
Any possible ideas?
After flashing a ROM you need to fastboot flash thr ROM zip's boot.img.
Even if it doesn't boot into the ROM? It should work?

No. I missed that. Can you fastboot flash a recovery? If not, you can try running a RUU.
Yeah I am able to flash a recovery via fast boot, but to actually do any other commands via fast boot it won't recognize anything. HBOOT won't see any .zips, tried everything.

Wait, if you have a working recovery, just flash a ROM (not PD98IMG) zip from the recovery (not fastboot). Download a custom ROM, full wipe in recovery, and flash in recovery.
Tried that. It seriously just sits there till the battery dies trying to turn on, doesn't pass the HTC white screen.

Hi. Forgive me if I am in the wrong section. I want to door my Rogers one x. I went to the Rogers one x compilation and could not find the right one. My firmware is 3.17.631.2. Can I use the root method listed for 3.18? I do not want to mess things up. I previously used Hassoons toolkit to unlock the boot loader. Now when I use it to install tarp, I do not think it recognizes my phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Think you.

All you need to do is go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader there, then you can flash TWRP 2.6, and flash a custom ROM, smooth sailing!

Well, I went to Team Win's website and downloaded TWRP and Goo Manager. I now have tampered status and have installed twrp through GooManager but have yet to find it on my device. Sometimes it is a struggle.

I know you were able to install TWRP using Goo Manager. But the proper way to install using your PC, would be using fastboot, with the command:
fastboot flash recovery filename.img
Where "filename" is the actual name of the recovery .img file.
Another thing to note, you don't need to unzip the recovery zip file.
