Hardware or Software Audio Issue - T-Mobile LG G2x

First of all, I've been searching for 4 days and trying everything that has been suggested, but I haven't found a solution yet. The only issue I have with the phone's audio is that I "can't hear" the person on the other end with the phone alone. If I have a headset plugged in or I'm on speaker phone then everything works fine.
I have tried the stock rom with both the new 21Y baseband and old 21E baseband. I have tried custom roms with both basebands. I have flashed the new and old audio fixes (owain) for both. I have exhausted every possible solution I could find; however, I might have overlooked some. So, that is why I'm asking for your help.
I have basically come to the conclusion that it is a hardware problem with the phone.
Currently:
Baseband 21E
ROM Stock 2.3.3 (untouched)

[Q] Nexus S major reception problems

Dear friends,
I am still new at this. A few weeks ago someone who told me they know how to flash roms would install a ics rom on my Nexus S (I9020A) for AT&T. However since then I have been having extremely bad reception issues. Now my phone might show full bars and signal, however sometimes when my friends call me I don't receive them, also vice-versa. Also my texts won't go through for a long time and sometimes fail, and lastly my 3g internet won't work at all or would be really slow until it connects.
I flashed my phone back to stock (I think.) and I also got a brand new sim card but the problem persists.
If anyone could please help me in describing what might be wrong and what should be done to correct this, please help me out.
Find out what radio you have ( about phone) and try a different one.
Make sure you only flash the radio for your device.
ICS wasn't released for your I9020A officially ... I would not let a friend touch my phone like this lol...
Now..As suggested , settings/about phone : see what version of stock rom and radio are you using now .. and report back
Some people have a debate on what radio is good with at&t and what not ....
Did you do a good clean up before flashing GB back to your phone ? i.e. format system / format boot , factory reset and so on ?
Android Version:
2.3.6
Baseband Version
109020AUCKF1
Build Number
GRK39F
I did do a good clean up prior to flashing back to GB. Would you guys be able to recommend a good radio for me please? Perhaps a link to the thread with the radio. I live in Southern California.

I suggest you also try old basebands like KD and KB.
Different baseband versions work differently in different regions and reception areas.

Running broken Gingerbread baseband, how to downgrade-upgrade to working?

Hey XDA modders,
Last year I upgraded with the leaked Gingerbread incl. baseband:
Android 2.3.5
L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1042.00 baseband
GRJ90 build
2.6.35.7+ kernel
LG920-V21a-NOV-16-2011
Unfortunately it's been nothing but problems since then: missed SMS, ghost calls, etc. Unfortunately I'm now off the official LG path, so I can't get back. One of the difficulties in XDA is it's hard to keep up with what is going on. So I'm really not sure what to do as it seems people like me have 'missed the boat' so to speak to get this fixed, as it's hard to search and find any response about this.
My question is:
- What basebands have no known issues? eg. 21a, 21b, 20b?
- How do I downgrade/upgrade to the correct baseband? Flash KDZ?
Cheers
Leon
For what I know you have to downgrade to a 10x firmware ( with kdz or bin file ) only froyo rom seems to work properly
All Gingerbread Roms + CM Roms that used GB baseband suffer from this problem. The problem is in the new bb came with GB. So, the only solution for now is to go back to any froyo Rom.
However, the latest froyo Rom suffer from a problem, when you set wifi sleep policy to never, the phone will randomly reboot number of times a day. So, flash the one before the latest.
LG lost us all, no one is satisfaied!
you can follow this guide to upgrade/downgrade the stock rom, i used it to fix my bricked phone, it works on the downgrade too i downgraded from v21b to v21a

[i9023] No sound on first call

Hi,
Since ICS 4.0.3 and now on 4.0.4, I can't hear my contact and my contact can't hear me on the first call.
I tried to use the speaker, the headphones or a Bluetooth earpiece but none of these work.
The second call is always alright, regardless the output (earpiece, speaker, headphone, ...).
This is not an operator issue, since I changed and had the problem before.
Does anyone encounter the same issue?
The only workaround I found yet, is to call voicemail on the first call so that the second call is alright.
I tried to factory reset the phone while on 4.0.3 and hoped the 4.0.4 update change something on that matter but it didn't.
Thank you for your replies.
Some things to try:
-Flash a different radio (can find all of them in the dev section)
-Full wipe (data/factory reset, format /system, format /boot) and reflash your preferred ROM
I've never had the problem, good luck getting it fixed though.
Thank you for your answer. I might try these when I found out how.
I've seen this bug on many many NEXUS S (4.03 & 4.04)
I think ALL NEXUS S have this bug with all mobile carriers.
Sometimes, particularly if the phone was idle, when you call someone : there is no sound.
It's like the speaker and the microphone were off.
You can raise this bug very easily, maybe 20% of the calls.
Hi,
I have the same issue, in France, with Orange.
Does someone has an idea, even a piece of solution ? It's my work phone, and it's very annoying when a client calls me or when I have to call him in return.
I can test, try .... I need a quick solution
Thanks
Sylvain
Are you using a custom ringtone at all? I remember reading somewhere that if you use a format other than .ogg sound file this can happen. I had it happen a few times in the past. If you're using a different format there is Online Audio Converter to convert to .ogg here: http://media.io/
Hope this helps
Conversion of my ringtone done .. waiting for some calls now

Don't forget to go into sound settings and choose your new ringtone, otherwise it will be unknown. I forgot after just moving the file over to my phone and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't ring.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Converting the ringtone is not a solution. I'm still having the same problem ...
I'm sorry, I misunderstood the OP. I thought you were saying there was no sound as in not ringing on the first call after reboot. Tells me not to browse XDA after working 22 hours lol. What rom/kernel are you using?
No problem.
I have the official 4.0.4 ROM.
The problem was the same with the 4.0.3 .. actually, after the update to 4.0.4, the issue is more imporant.
Someone suggested to flash another radio ROM. I check the topic on that matter and wonder if I need to be rooted to do that. There's no mention you need to be but saving /efs folder suggests you must be.
Also, instead of flashing the radio, can I tried to fully wipe the phone? I heard the factory reset do not reset everything on the phone, is there a way to do this?
Thank you
Hello,
I'm back from a week-end in spain (I'm french). I didn't have any sound problem. So it seems that it really linked to the provider (I have a contract with Orange).
I'll try to look at the post to change the radio ROM.

Hi, I'm french too and have the same problem but with a different provider (Bouygues). In my opinion, it's not related to the provider.
Like already said, it seems that the phone cannot get out the speaker and microphone from idle for the first call.
Note that today i've got twice the problem and success on the third call...
If someone find a solution, let me know
Hi,
Is this bug only encounter by people from France?
try to change radio you can search which radio suits on your place.. or flash another rom you can choose bunch of good rom with 4.0.4 and kernel
heres the link of nexus s radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Someone already suggested that. Unfortunately, to my understanding, to proceed you have to be rooted and save some folder (/efs or so). Since I don't know how to root the phone and don't want to loose the warranty, i did not take that option yet.
I have the same problem (in France too). In my case the problem is even worse: call failure reaches nearly 100% when connected to a wifi network.
Hello,
I've the same issue.
my phone: Nexus S I9020a / ics 4.0.4 / Radio:XXKL1 / Carrier: Orange in France.
I used this page to try different radio : Radio GUIDE.
I was unable to flash UCKJ1 : fastboot say write error, and CWM say ok but the baseband wasn't changed. maybe because it was unsigned
I then flashed with success XXKF1. (this one was signed).
I'v tested with two call, and that's worked (I'll have to wait to be sur it's realy worked).
On the Radio page there is a "Warning do not flash on 9020a" for the XXKL1 radio : maybe the explanation for 9020 owner.
after deeper test : XXKF1 radio doesn't fix the problem.
I've swtiched to GB 2.3.7 / CM 7.1 / Lucid-Kernel-blue and the problem is gone away.
I've still the XXKF1 radio, so the radio doesn't seem to be the problem. It's an ics 4.0.3 problem (the radio of ics 4.0.3 is OK).
GB 2.3.7/ CM7.1 is far more responsive for me (and have a kernel with pre-2.3.3 color driver ), ics don't miss me. I've my phone from only a month and haven't tested GB before the sound problem.

strange ns4g issues

I used odin when the 4.0.4 official leak was posted here. I since uses the one click software restore back to 2.3.4. At first it gave an issue with the radio. On my phone while restoring it said "radio fail" but the phone seems to be working.
Now I manually updated the unrooted Sprint official 4.0. And my phone since the very first thing I said, has been randomly rebooting, I tried a different battery and it does the same thing. It's also real laggy. Any advice? Are there stock 2.3.4(7) files I can odin? I want it completely factory. Or suggest the problem? Thank you.

Headphone jack problem - mic not working

Hi all,
I got g2x from my friends to use temporarily. I tried various earphones like skullcandy, Iphone etc but none of the mic seem to work. When i connected my ep 630 which does not have mic, the phone's default mic is also not working. This is very annoying as i could not attend a phone call with earphones plugged in and could not buy a compatible earphone with mic either.
Please help guyz !
