Love my phone!! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My last two phones were a droid x,x2 both rooted&modded and they still didn't run smooth enuff like my s3 which is still stock unrooted, the droid x was my first touch screen phone thought that 4.3 inch screen was big enuff but now my s3 screen hits that's sweet spot....any how was reading which I do tons of came across this thought I'd share it was funny to me.

i agree

I too came from a DX and the SGS3 is way better.... But that is to be expected sine the DX is over 2 years old. It is gonna take some time to get used to the difference in a Moto and Sammy device. But at least we have a unlocked bootloader

Just wondering are you guys getting as good of data signal as you did on your Droid Xs.

I get a good signal for the most part, but we all know moto makes better radios then Sammy

Also came from the Droid X. Data signal on my S3 seems fine; I'm primarily in a 4g area. Could have been something specific to my phone, however, Spotify streaming was a joke on my Droid X via 3g. With the S3, I can actually listen to non downloaded tracks consistently without any pauses from the buffering.

I came from a Droid X then an LG Revolution and this phone is definitely MUCH faster than either and the battery life is excellent

will the droid charge ever...

Will the droid charge ever be supported by Cyanogen?
Reason I ask is because I just picked up the droid incredible 2, which is a great phone and even better on battery life than any other android phone I've had before (evo, nexus s), and I'm still on my 14 day trial but I'm considering the droid charge. I love the amoled screen on sammy, makes all other screens look washed out, and the vanilla look and speed. So cyanogen for droid charge ever? How are the roms without TW and how is battery life on the charge?
Last question, how does the charge feel in the pocket? I remember my evo was like a brick, and the nexus s was like nothing compared to it. The droid inc 2 is about the same as the nexus s. Thanks in advance.

I just don't like TW. It really lags the phone, comapred to the nexus s which has the same hardware but stock vanilla. That is why I'm asking about CM7, but I'm sure there are other roms out there which has taken the TW out of it right? I'm just in the fence between this phone and the droid inc 2.
Let me try to give some input on the droid inc 2 and maybe you guys can give me some feedback on what your experiences are with the charge.
-very light, feels great in the pocket
-sense, a couple or roms being developed now with addition of 3.0 sense but I can live without
-no 4g, not that I have 4g in my city, but it is offered at some places I usuallly go to
-already has a beta cm7, which runs nearly perfect, very stable
-very fast phone, browsing the web and opening up apps
-battery life is best from my experience, can easily get by with one day with moderate/heavy use with leftover juice
I'm just trying to decide wich one to keep with the help of people who already have the charge and can talk about the pros and cons of the phone. Thanks again.
If the 4g is not that important to you, then your current phone has better hardware except for the screen.
I personally don't know how I survived without 4g for this long.

I have the Charge primarily for the screen. After all, any time im using the phone, im looking at the screen, making it the most used piece of hardware on the device besides the radios. Its plenty fast for me as well.

agreed...4 g is faster than my wifi right now. Screen is SICK. Can't go to a bionic from this, only a 4g GSII. If it exists.
I hate to say it but I'm getting the d3. I'm going to sell this phone. I hate how slow it is and knowing samsung updates won't come fast leaks are great but leaks are leaks. 4g is killing my battery and I'm always on wifi anyways. And oh who doesn't miss the keyboard. Locked isn't a problem im sure it will be unlocked the same way the atrix was and motorola left fastboot on it which means there is more to come. Just my opinion and i know the trolls will come.

r2DoesInc has a Charge and is going to work on porting OMGB and OMFGB to it, so we'll have at least those for AOSP ROMs then. Once one AOSP ROM is done and working, it should be easier to port others to the phone then as well. It will happen at some point, the only problem is, it could take a while to happen.
To put things in context, the Fascinate, which came out about 10 months ago and is extremely similar to the Charge specs-wise, has just -- literally in the past few days -- gotten more-or-less fully functional CM7.
As far as the Incredible 2 goes, it's a decent but thoroughly underwhelming phone considering it came out so recently. Single-core, no 4G, okay but not great screen...it really is more comparable to the Fascinate than to the Charge or Droid X2.
Honestly, if you have a choice, you'd be better off waiting for the Droid Bionic, which will finally mate a dual-core processor with 4G.
i tell you 4g is so sweet. I came from a dx and i knew the bonic was coming out when i bought the charge. I dont regret at all upgrading. As i hated Blur and there screens are bad. TouchWiz is not that bad to me. I think you will be very happy with the charge. I am rooted and on humble 1.3 and voodoo kernel and my benchmarks are as high as my droid x on Gingerbread. I dont see qhy everyone loves Motorola after owning my charge.
Good luck buddy

I cannot for the life of me find on here or droid forums how to root the charge with no other changes. I guess there isnt a way yet? I really LOVE 4G. I have seen speeds up to 12 Mbs. And twice that fast posted by others like in Dallas area. I am a truck driver I am in and out of 4G areas all the time. I have a situation where I had to pay for the tethering right now my son was in a terrible crash and we have been in the Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville since Sat. $30 for 2Gigs...ugh. Yeah, you definitely have to be willing to flash a rom to this phone, Sammy's stock software is awful. I don't think I could own the thing without a custom rom and lagfix applied.

how do these roms run compared to stock? I have seen the pictures but no videos, maybe somebody can post one and compare it to something else. Honestly the droid inc 2 has got pretty much the same specs as the charge exept no 4g and more ram. The thing that I love about the charge is that it will be future proof with the 4g and the lovely screen.
How about the droid 3? anybody seen one yet? It just seems appealing because of the dual core and front camera, but I would hate the extra bulkiness from the keyboard. So hard to decide on a phone which will be a solid phone for the 2 years.

Thinking about a Thunderbolt

I've had the thunderbolt but once I bought the Rezound I sold the thunderbolt but kinda want it back so I have both or should I wait and see if HTC releases another HTC phone on Verizon?? Just want to have choices in what phone I carry.

I personally would hold off and see what they come out with next year - waiting always pays off, especially when having to keep that same device for 20 months until you can upgrade. Also taking into consideration that they are making phones with a lot better batteries too.

I'm the same way with HTC. I had an Eris, Incredible (wife's), Thunderbolt, and now an Incredible 2. Just got rid of my bolt a few days ago. I came really close to deciding to throw it against a brick wall instead of selling it. I hate it that much. Got the GS2, I absolutely love it.
I am on the Thunderbolt for the 3rd time now. I have had the Nexus, Rezound and the Razr Maxx. The only phone I liked better than the Thunderbolt is the Razr Maxx. I think I will get the Razr Maxx again but I will keep the Thunderbolt around for my second phone!

Wich phone would you pick?

So I though of upgrading my nexus one. The possible candidats are a htc one s or a motorola razr maxx. If you had to choose wich one would you take? I don't like that big screens, so 4.3 inches seems to be a sweat spot for me. Could you recomend me other phones?
Thx

Razr Maxx has the best battery life out of all smartphones in the market so if you are looking for a phone that has great battery life, the razr maxx is the phone to get. Other good phones are the GNexus and the SGS3 which have full support of Ics and JB.
The best hardware right now is the galaxy s iii. The best software support is on the galaxy nexus.
I wouldn't get something as locked down as the Motorola unless you're okay with only ever getting one android update, and getting it super late. And I think the gsiii does everything the HTC does and then some.
My choice is (and probably always will be) the nexus because I have more control over it than any other device, but the gsiii is a good choice now as well.

None of us can give you a definite answer of what phone to get because ultimately, it's your choice and none of us can change that. It starts getting difficult at 5+ and becomes a matter of taste there. Otherwise 4.8 has proven manageable with phones like sensation and galaxy s3.
Consider that the maxx is not HD and is aged technology, even at launch there were complaints on moto holding out,if you also don't mind this carry on.
Consider you can always get an extended battery for something like the s3 or optimus 4x without a great increase in bulk as they're thin.

I was comparing the stock email app UI with my Droid Incredible the other week and the Galaxy S III display, speed, etc. made my Incredible look like a toy.
Without the Galaxy S III around for reference, my Incredible is absolutely cool and smooth looking+feeling. Bring the Samsung into the field of view and that impression gets thrown out the window . . . with the window and the wall that held the window.
- ooofest
About the Incredible - that phone is still probably the nicest phone to hold from a size/texture perspective.
I also got the white S3 and having a white border around the screen also made a much bigger difference than I thought.

I got verizon to swap my Droid Razr ( Not maxx) for a S3 for FREE. This phone rocks, thanks verizon for giving me a phone that works with flash player again and has a working Wifi and GPS.
That with 4G that is not trash so far that's nice too. ( They fixed my 4G issue's with the ICS update on the razr, but WIFI,GPS and FLASH PLAYER all got shot + more.)
Edit: "Old Droid razr Video" in my sig shows why I started hating that phone. ( If you wanted to know, before taking up for the Razr.)

Both phones are really good an both running jelly bean. I'm sure as the user said above, the sgs3 has more development being the more popular phone. But that's irrelevant if you don't plan on rooting and modding your phone.
Best bet is to play with them in hand. Both offer similar performance which hardware difference such as screen size, navigation keys vs hardware keys, etc. I can't always use my sgs3 with just one hand. Depends what I'm doing. My gf has the RAZR m and everything can be done one hand.
IMO, the sgs3 is the better device. Bigger screen, and camera. But the form factor and edge to edge screen of the RAZR m is awesome once you pick it up.

I hate the Motorola phones but I have to admit as phones you can have a clear phone call and not drop the call. The S3 even after the JB update still has issues. Not everyone has that problem but if you read the forums, certainly enough do that you might want to consider it.
P3droid has one, if it can be hacked, he's the guy to do it. He's been kinda quiet lately about it. Maybe he's done. Give him a follow on Twitter.

Motorola phones are not so great if you like to root & flash roms. I came from a Razr Maxx. I know this. And the Photon on Sprint can't even function fully if you unlock the boot loader. It's ridiculous with Motorola phone's.
If you want a smaller phone and a UI that's close to stock Android, go with the Razr M. If you want a phone that has better features, more user friendly functions, great camera, good wireless radio, and good development, go with the S3.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I wouldn't touch a Motorola phone with a ten foot pole.
i will admit, that, while i love my S3 and would NOT trade it for my wife's RazrM, i do get jelous sometimes with her better reception. IN the same exact place, she has a better chance of hooking up with a weak reception than i am. HOWEVER, i do love all the DEV support the S3 has, all the tweaks and various hacks on it. SO would still pick the S3 over the Razr M for that reason alone.
:cyclops:
I was in this exact scenario a month ago. I tried the Razr M first and didn't like it for three big reasons: 1) the camera is horrible. I don't know how they messed that one up so badly, but they did. 2) The phone was really slow on ICS. I'm not sure how much better it is on JB, but it was driving me nuts. 3) I actually didn't find the reception to be that great.
The S3 has better specs and better dev support as mentioned, but it is a bigger phone. At first that is why I went with the Razr M but I ended up being a very, very happy S3 owner. Everything from the camera to speed to especially the dev support... all awesome.
Thanks for your input, but I'll be going with the M.
The S3 feels like crap compared to the M, and the compact device fits my smaller hands perfectly.
Both devices are equally fast and speedy.
As dev support goes, I'll just have to port some good ROMs.

What radio issues? - the S3 is perfect and works better than any other phone on the market! JK Someone usually posts this sort of defensive thing when I mention the crappy radio on the Samsung phones with Verizon, I'm glad others mention it as I hope somehow that feedback will get back to Samsung and they will improve the radio as I really like their phones otherwise.
I think the Radio issue is a hit or miss on the S3. I have no issues. I get better reception in bad areas with my S3 than I did with my Razr Maxx. But I probably got lucky with a good one. I use to have the S2 on Sprint and I know exactly what people are talking about when they say the radio is bad. That phone was the worst for wireless radio.
