Choosing the right RUU - HTC Sensation

Hi,
I'm currently running Ordroid on my Sensation but have decided I want to go back to the stock Sensation ROM - the gingerbread one that was on the phone when I bought it (ie unrooted) and have found the list of RUUs but am a bit daunted as to which one to choose!
I'm from the UK and the phone was bought unlocked (had never been locked to a network) so which RUU do I choose from the list for the most up to date official gingerbread rom?
This is the list I've found:
www.filefactory.com/f/c87a2330449af512/
Also, with me being on ICS currently and wanting to downgrade to GB, do I need to flash a new radio or RIL before running the RUU or does the RUU contain the necessary radio/prerequisites to run without anything else?
Thanks in anticipation!

Download CIDgetter from the market.
It should show you the original CID.
I have enclosed a couple of files that show the CID and from that you can look at the other list to get the right RUU. I cannot vouch 100% for the info in the files but then seem to have been correct so far.
The only ones I have personally used are:
CID - VODAP001 RUU - x.xx.161.xxxxxxxxx (Vodafone UK)
CID - HTC__001 RUU - x.xx.401.xxxxxxxxx (WWE "World Wide English")
The WWE one does not have the carrier bloatware so a good starting point.
SuperCID is "11111111" which enables you to install any RUU.

That's a massive help, thank you ever so much!
My CID is HTC_001 so am installing an ICS x.xx.401.xxx one which is HTC_Europe
Fingers crossed that one will work
Thanks again!

I should have included:

I just installed RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.33.401.6_Radio_11.76A.3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M_release_266171_signed.exe which I think is the latest version, am I right in thinking now that I'm running the same ROM that someone who had never rooted their phone/installed custom ROMs would be running?
I was S-OFF but as I've just installed a stock ROM I'm back to S-ON. The only reason I've done this is I was kinda dissatisfied with the performance of my Sensation; it was taking about a second to return to home when pressing home, apps took a few seconds to load where on another android phone I have (much less powerful than the Sensation) they were loading instantly. Thought returning to stock might alleviate the lag. It seems to have done that a bit, but it still feels a bit clunky and the screen overheats so much at the bottom! I knew this was a problem some people were getting but thought again that going back to stock would cure the problem - apparently not! Very tempted to send a letter/make a phonecall to HTC asking why a £330 phone is lagging and overheating when a £100 Huawei I have runs better than it!
Anyway, I'm rambling and going off-topic!
tl;dr is my phone's working okay but not quite as fast/cool as I'd hoped
Thanks again for your help

You're probably:
S-OFF but locked.
If you were S-OFF you will still be.
Look for the XDA thread (can't remember the title) "User Friendly Firmware " and get an unlocked/revolutionary HBOOT.

I'm using CM10 from Bruce's kang, Have a try.
It's AOSP so doesn't have the Sense baggage.
Ensure yu are fully S-OFF before you change anything.

I am currently on a sense 4 Rom running 3.33 firmware is it possible for me to go back to gingerbread as I hate all the lag
FYI I am S-Off, unlocked bootloader and super CID

Yes, if you are S-OFF install a GB firmware and then install a GB custom ROM.
OR just install a GB RUU.

[Q] Most stable 3.5 ROM put?

Hey guys; im hoping you guys can provide some advise for a noob that recently got into the scene with flashing my sensation...im currently running ARHD 3.6.8 and while it's great, I have issues sometimes that the only way for the phone to to start working again is to take the battery out. it happens randomly or also when trying to access the internet it will just sit there and load. I haven't tried sense 3.5 yet and i see there's alot of beta kernels out there as well. At this time, what's the most complete/stable ROM or kernel released? I've done some research and as I mentioned earlier, this is my 1st ROM flashed so I want some inputs from those with more experience and/or have tried most of the ROMs out there.
I'm willing to try anything really, but wife get pissed" when I'm reading xda dev all the time, specially on the weekends, haha
Any inputs are greatly appreciated. Also, Im tmobile US and want to stay stock as much as possible but im down with trying new things! Thanks

tryed a bunch of roms .. but always go back to bulletproof :/
Love the tweaks .. and stable as all get out for me .. never have any problems with it.

Hello guys im also a noob for HTC, my previous phone is galaxy w xD pretty standard, i got my new sensation today so whats the most stable rom ?? Thx
dude u should really go for ARHD 6.4.0 or the newer version that has sense 3.6 that had been released today... well i have been using the 6.4.0 for 2 days but still it is not giving me any problems... i had used arhd 6.0.3 for almost a month and it was very stable... As for me, as long as you get it right it is always the newer the better unless stated by the developer.. So if you are planning to go for ARHD 6.x.x just follow the steps correctly and you will be save and you will definitely love your phone...

sorry but just dont go to the arhd 6.5.0 just yet because i heard the were having issues with installing from unknown sources...

OK basically, when you are looking at roms on their OFFICIAL XDA page it should say the firmware required, just download it from the link that they will most probably have provided for you, put it on the root of your sdcard and then boot into hboot and follow the instructions ( pull out battery, reinsert and then hold down the volume down button and the power button). Usually you will only have to flash firmware files for ics roms but if you want to go back to stock ( for warranty issues or if you just want to for the lulz) then you should ALWAYS change your hboot back to the ones supported by revolutionary.io or else you will end up ***ked like i currently am with no solution. To change the hboot just flash an old firmware file or run a RUU file, search it up on google and you are SuperCid so you can use any.
Okey thanks alot man!!! So to get back i just donwload the old frimware??

To be able to point you into the specific direction you need to provide some additional information, especially like:
- country
- branding/provider
In general you can find all available stock RUU here:

2nd go hereROMS that is where all custom roms are.

I would strongly recomment you to read, re-read and search (google or XDA) if you have questions.
Anyway the starting place is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
o S-OFF allows you to install stuff that you need by bypassing phone security.
o Recovery (e.g. ClockworkMod a.k.a CWM) allows you to install ROMs. It also allows you to do a complete (well almost) phone backup and recovery of the phone. So it's easy to get back to a prior version, Nandroid backup/recovery.
o SU gives you admin rights on the phone.
o SuperCID alows you to install any county's /carrier's ROM. e.g. debrand the phone from the shipped ROM.
There are a myriad of ROMs in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1112
Have a look at the number of replies / number of times they've been viewed to get some idea about the popularity.
You'll need to make a couple of decisions:
1: AOSP or Sense based ROMs. The stock one is Sense, pure Google Android is AOSP, they each have a different look and feel.
2: GB (Gingerbread) or ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich). ICS is the latest BUT BUT BUT needs additional steps to be performed to update the phone's firmware. I WOULD strongly suggest starting out with a GB ROM first as there is less likely to go wrong.

Surely the post immediately after your OP answered the question, or did it not ?
The other posts, including my earlier one, answered a different question. Hence the comment from another poster, sorry don't have the name, mentioned hijacking threads is not cool.

OK getting the thread back on track.
Did the post after you original one answer the your question.
If not, get the phone S-OFF'd and SuperCID then just install an appropriate RUU, then you'd get the OTA.
EDIT: or just reinstall the RUU for your county/carrier
Most people are going away from shipped ROMs here and trying different ROMs with their good and bad things.
So you mean to say that we can get HTC update with s-off and original ruu only......and u mean no need to do s-on also ????

Look, someone posted a potential solution. Someone else asked a different question (hijacked thread) which was answered.
Please explain the current situation and the attemps you've tried that have failed.
HBOOT, Recovery, Radio, ...... That info is crutial. Also what you are attempting to achieve .
i had s-off and rooted and now i have succesfully s-on and unrooted my device and now i am on official stock ruu...........my question is that can i update my phone via ota updates from htc???
I think OP is trying to ask if flashing an Asian RUU and going to S-ON will turn his T-Mobile Sensation 4G into a proper Asian handset (and therefore get OTA updates that official Asian handsets do).
I'm not sure if it would (maybe there's an IMEI check?), but I would change my CID to be what it should be for that RUU (and not leave it at supercid).
i have supercid my phone and i remain on t-mobile ruu then will i get official update
I'm actually quite curios to know the answer, if I just s-off my phone will I be receiving updates from HTC, I got the T-mobile phone and I live in the middle east, my phone does not read arabic, I'd ultimately like to install a middle east rom , but then will the official updates stop?
I don't think anyone will know until the OTA drops. My hunch is that having the right RUU and CID would mean you get the OTAs. Having supercid will probably not work, since that's essentially what identifies your region.
But putting my XDA hat on, why would you want an OTA anyway when we have legendary chefs here to get you hooked up with good roms?
btw, I tried out one of the InsertCoin ICS roms, and the Facebook app could read Arabic and Urdu properly (right-to-left with joined letters). I didn't check the browser, but it probably would have worked as well. (In GB, you'd have to patch the system libraries to get proper letter joining)
I guess you wouldn't, I just read some people commenting about having some bugs in their custom roms, so I just automatically assumed that the stock roms are at least stable. the other reason is that I'm afraid to break something
I just went through this, I had s-off with super cid and had the stock HTC Europe RUU flashed on my phone.
The phone detected an OTA update was available (an old one that was released after the RUU), but when I tried to download it, it just timed out. I reset my CID to HTC__001 and then it downloaded the update OK.
i bricked my phone while doing s-on
i know its a true brick as nothing is happining not even the charge light
can u tell me that "would this have affected my motherboard or not"????

[Q] Orange ROM to Stock ROM

I have a couple of Desire S's here, one locked to Orange with the awful Orange ROM, the other unlocked with a stock ROM.
My question is this:
Is there a way to take a backup from the stock phone and restore it on the other?
At the moment both phones are S-On and neither is rooted or modified in any way, both are running the updated 2.3.5 roms.
I'm fed up with the rubbish Orange put on the phone, but with the upcoming ICS OTA update due some time this year (maybe) I want to be able to get this when HTC release it, rather than when Orange have butchered it. I'm happy to pay Orange to unlock the phone if needs be, but I'd rather not if it's avoidable . (I'm also looking at going to 3 for the unlimited data so it might get unlocked at some point anyway...)
I've seen some posts saying that once modified the OTA updates are pretty much not going to happen, although was unclear if they meant modified ROMS or just other ROMS from the one originally supplied. I'm fairly happy with the Sense 3.0 update
I have previously rooted my old Hero and flashed Cyanogen on it regularly, but don't want to fiddle too much with my Desire unless I have to.
Any thoughts/suggestions welcomed, but I really don't want to wait until Orange get round to modding ICS once HTC finally release it.
OK, change of plan. Looks like it will be much simpler to simply flash with a generic ROM with 2.3.5 and then do it again later when ICS is out.
Looking at the FileFactory list of RUUs I'm not clear which the best option is... What's the difference between the RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe and the RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe?

No, but if you use a goldcard, you can flash RUU's out of region / brand etc.

You can easily S-OFF them by using Revolutionary (if HBoot is 0.98.000X), most stock ROMs tend to have quite easily hackable bootloaders.

Orange will charge you an arm and a leg. Better is to find an unlock provider online. Googling around or use the giffgaff unlockapaedia.

Yes, stock branded ROMs are distributed by the network. So unless orange can be bothered to re-theme a new OTA update, you won't be getting one I'm afraid if you're on a branded ROM.

Tbh, current ICS roms have camera problems, due to proprietary htc drivers. These probably won't be solved until HTC releases the official ICS patch (or some kind dev ports a sensation ICS driver).
You'll also find that with some of the phones, AOSP and CM7 kernels also have camera problems (it's a bit of a hit and miss really...) if you're happy with Sense interface, try Endymion, Virtuous or SenseMOD.

Make sure you check your phone version when flashing RUUs. Use fastboot getvar all and look at the INFOversion-main and INFOcidnum.
Becareful there, because if you flash the wrong version, you'll get a HTC locked bootloader!
If in doubt, use Goldcard.

[Q] Reasons for RUU not working?

I took my HTC One S to the HTC Care shop to flash the Stock ROM. After 3 hours when I returned back the guy told me No cant do with no explanation. He said there was some hardware issue. I had handed over the phone with OEM relocked. After getting it back I restored it back to the backup of I had and looks like as it was when I had given it to them.
I have not faced any issues with the phone, just wanted to update the version from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. I do not have my stock backup.
What are the known causes a RUU not working? I am planning on getting the RUU from someone on the forum but do want to get the wrong version or something. My specs are in my signature. If someone can tell me what exactly I need to look for when getting an RUU. Also does the HBOOT need to be the same that you own or can be higher to flash?
I am thinking that the idiots at HTC do not have the right ROM and hence asking me to deposit the phone in order to cover their own tracks. But thats just being hopeful. Can anyone help??

There is no S-OFF on HOS. The process for SuperCID is not out for HTC One S (S3). The posts have been quite explicit that the process mentioned will brick this version.

What a mouthful right lol, i'm not 100% sure it'll work for you because you have an S3 chip but it's worth a try. You can find it on filefactory and btw make sure your bootloader is locked.

I just don't see how you going to do it if they can't. Try getting them to try again and if they still can't get it to work then have them send it off. Or just not care about it and update to a rom that has 4.0.4.

Did you do it after upgrading your stock to 4.0.4 or before it? Cuz last time I checked you CAN NOT use a custom 4.0.4 based ROM on a 4.0.3 based HOS. There is an HBOOT conflict. Anyways there are practically only 2 ROMs available for the HTC One S (S3). The TD v4 gives me bootloops (tried and failed) and the other is mcOneS3 which I havent tried but have in good faith that I WONT WORK before! reference to post #8
So if you have found a workaround I am all ears, (eyes in this case)!!

The TD v4 gives me bootloops (tried and failed) and the other is mcOneS3 which I havent tried but have in good faith that I WONT WORK before! reference to post #8
So if you have found a workaround I am all ears, (eyes in this case)!!

Ya 4.0.4 worked fine on 4.0.3 and now 4.1.1 works on 4.0.4 so guess HTC really have screwed you guys over.

Tell me about it. its not a bad phone but the lack of options customize like custom ROMs really pisses me off. You have just given me one more to hate the S3 version!!
well just waiting for a 4.0.4 nandroid from someone to see if that works. else will personally ask football for an RUU.
Your One S must be having a higher hboot version than their RUU at htc service centre. Downgrade your hboot version to stock for RUU to work properly.

So If I have a RUU with correct CID but a higher HBOOT version I am good to go??
The hboot version of the RUU should be the same or higher than you currently have in order for it to work. The CID should also be the same that is _038 in our case. If you find a suitable RUU please post a link to the upload, we Indians are in a dire need of an RUU.

you bet. I have spoken to football and he says it can be obtained, but at a price! So making sure that I get the right one. Also just heard that we may be getting JB sometime in future. Shot a mail to HTC today to see when it will be available. Lets see!! If they say more than 3 months then might as well get that bloody RUU. Hating this disabled feeling.
PS: are you on One S too?? Are you rooted? if so can you upload me your stock backup??????
You two should go half's on the RUU if you do get it.

hmm that will be easier on the pocket.:good: Is there a way to enable subscription just by replying to a post. It is so difficult to keep track of where you have been. I tried helping a dude earlier and completely forgot the post heading now, I doubt i will be going back there unless I have a message somewhere telling me that I am needed! Do you get what i mean?

[Q] Can Rooted and Unlocked xl get OTA update?

If, and I mean if ATT ever updates to 4.1 would I be able to load that if I choose or would I
have to re-lock??
T
as long as you stay on the stock room you should get the OTA update. Issue though is, you might lose root and possibly your unlock

If you're going to root and unlock, you should forget about OTAs. You may get one, but taking it when you're rooted can brick your phone. There's no need to take one anyway, since pre-rooted versions usually show up in the Development section that day.
If your CID is 11111111 and you take the OTA, your phone will most likely brick.. so avoid it
Thanks all... actually went back to CM 10 last night. I had relocked and everything hoping for an update someday but I couldn't help it and had to go back to Cm. Battery life seems much better on the latest nightly compared to the stable version.

If a rooted / hboot 1.14 bootloader unlocked phone with super CID is unable to take an OTA without bricking, how does one get a new radio, wifi firmware, etc.? Please don't say downgrading hboot, because I am already familiar with that somewhat dangerous approach. Others are suggesting that if one's bootloader is relocked and a stock ruu flashed, OTAs are safe. Is this not true?

I bricked after relocking and running ruu but to be fair I downgraded my hboot to 1.09 and am not sure if that had anything to do with it.. good luck..dunno why you would want the ota anyway.
It is not that I necessarily want the OTA. I am concerned that an important radio update will come along, or something else that requires a full ruu, and I will be SOL. This HTC thing is driving me crazy - my Atrix was so easy to work with. I have yet to see a jb ROM that was 100% stable for 100% of people, so not having the option of using a stock ruu if it is available scares me.

I have noticed that typically when things are not stable right away for me it was a bad download or just a bad flash. A stock based ROM like viper has always been stable for me and am currently using paranoid android also perfectly stable. In any case, once the source for the ota is released devs will most likely use that as a base for their next upgrades so I really wouldn't worry about it.

My CID is 11111111 and I have taken many OTA's. I have switched and changed ROM's and reRUU'ed many times. From Hong Kong to German to Telstra. Taking OTA's all over the place. I would say my phone has at least done 8 official HTC OTA's.
Not once has it bricked.
Is it some check AT&T ROM's do?
Personally I have found unlocked bootloader and supercid do not effect an OTA. Modifications to /system are more likely to be troublesome. They are likely to be lost or could even make the update fail.
See, this is exactly why I can't necessarily trust much of what I hear about the HOX. I wish the official resources thread would answer this, and the answer woud be provided by experienced HOX devs.

Wow - you guys are so helpful. What exactly is my type? Someone who knows enough about hardware to believe that there is more than just front end changes included in some OTA/RUU updates? Turge had to include a wifi update to make Viper stable for some people. I am sure you two knew exactly what the problem was as soon as the ROM came out, including all of the necessary changes, the partitions involved, etc. You've pretty much just proved you are idiots if you believe that there is nothing else included in an RUU other than system and hboot updates.
Oh, and thanks for making me miss the Atrix forum some more. The people were actually nice there. I didn't realize that I should check out the XDA forums before buying a phone - the Nexus folks can't be any worse than you two.

Thank you for giving me a good laugh... The forums being kind and your intelligence level are directly proportional...because you're a stuck up noob you are getting the treatment you deserve...and your type is for the iPhone or better yet a flip phone from a couple years back you won't have to worry about software changes on that...I'm still kind curious what you're trying to get at? I'm a bit confused how you're comparing hardware and ruu and ota
Okay, really not sure how I am a stuck up noob. Or unintelligent, as I am perfectly capable of reading lots of threads where people who seem to know what they are talking about argue over one's ability to go back to stock using a RUU. I was merely looking for confirmation from more than one person that I could go back to stock using a RUU and then apply the OTA if necessary. My point was simply that if something came out that was not possible to implement via a ROM - i.e. a radio update, I wanted the ability to flash it. Without downgrading hboot, it appears that anyone with hboot 1.14 is STUCK WITH THEIR PRESENT RADIO. There is conflicting info out there regarding one's ability to go back to stock using an RUU and then apply the OTA in the future, and I was merely trying to confirm that this was possible. If you look in this thread, you will see one person say it is perfectly safe, and another that it will brick the phone. Care to decide who is right? I generally like to get a few opinions before I task a risk, but apparently you don't get that. It is a perfectly reasonable question.
Here's a straight answer.... That's a bit risky going back to stock through ruu than applying an ota I've seen many people brick that way idk if it's just because the cid is 11111111 or whatever but there's something in the system that the ota doesn't like and than rejects..though I do not see the point of doing an ota esepcially many involve huge security updates ie hboot as you stated which will probably result in no root. . I can confidently assure you att will bring out a new nazi hboot out with the jb update too...so my advice would be to stick to non stock and enjoy
Thanks - I appreciate the response. Still a bit concerned about being stuck on my present radio, but perhaps that will get resolved in the future. Have a great weekend.
I'm sire your aware but you can downgrade hboot
Thanks, yes. I've read the entire downgrade thread a few times. It appears that more than one person has bricked their phone, and that isn't a risk I can take right now.
