Root 1.85 help - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm trying to root 1.85 on my mac because I just got a replacement phone but whenever it asks me to do a software update check, it tells me that there actually is a software update available. Is it still possible to root?

Rooting problem - Solved!

I used the Moboboro and SuperOneClick method. Everything went smoothly, SOC went through its routine and told me my device was now rooted. The superuser app appeared in my drawer and updated itself. I figured everything was good. Wrong. Rootchecker and busybox are both telling me the device (UG802) is not actually rooted. Any ideas what I can do?
Thanks
Unfortunately I have exactly the same problem when I attempt to root ug 802. Will appreciate any help!
I'm going thru the same thing. I guess there is a Chinese tool that works but I'm not up for trying.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139454
I read the ug802 comes prerooted ?? I have been able to load apks thru astro without issue but also got non rooted message using busybox.
Root doesn't appear to matter as there isn't a ROM based off the JB firmware it comes with AFAIK

Depends on which UG802 version you have. On that forum there's a warning that the ROM is not for use on the latest version of the UG802, it kills the wi-fi.
Getting my ug802 into recovery is about impossible. Mine has no reset button and I'm not up for opening the case. Somebody has to have a way to do this easy.

FWIW, opening the case is a piece of cake. It's just held on with tabs. Slide a flat head screwdriver above the HDMI port and gently work it back and forth. It will crack open and then you can just work your way around. Why do you need to open the case?
According to what I've read you can run a jumper wire across to pin terminals and force the ug802 into recovery mode. This seems to be what those that have tried and failed to root have resorted to to get their device out of boot loop.
I've modded a few androids but this one is tough

Ok, finally found a method that worked for me. Have to wait for next post to post a link....

It is for the MK808, but it worked for me. You need an account to see the download link for the file, but you can just google the file name and find the download link that way.
Thanks for the update... I'm going to give this a shot tonite. I'm thinking I don't have the right drivers or something

OK this worked for as well!! Big thank you!!
I'd like to add that I got stuck until I realized that after each reboot I had to back into settings and under ubs click connect to PC. Once I did that it rooted right away. Now we just need some new ROMs to try!!
Hi, im using this rom and just need to install. Already came with SU. No need to root
Since I use that one I never root again
Install an uninstaller root apk, and desinstall all apk you dont need it

[Q] Confused with 4.3 and if I can go back to 4.2

So this morning I upgraded to 4.3 and I know 'now' that I should not have because it destroyed my WiFi Tether and it locked the bootloader so I can never ever root again (I think)
My questions is:
Can I ever WiFi Teather anymore or is my bootloader locked so I cant reload the original factory ROM that came with my phone before the updates or do I have to now get a new phone to do this?

You still can root 4.3 and you still can do wifi tethering..you just can't play with custom rom/kernel anymore. Trade off is you have a trouble/headache free phone with good performance and battery life...so there's no lost there.

Check out the link in this post for saferoot, it has been proven to work on the 4.3 update:

And as buhohitr has pointed out in other threads, the app WiFi tether router (available in the play store) apparently works.

Thanks landshark68. Also FoxFi just update their app and it should work too!! the downside with foxfi is you can not disable lock screen if you're using Foxfi tethering.
Foxfi works as well. I use to dislike foxfi but its growing on me. I also like knowing that if I ever get a phone that can not be rooted it will still work.

You can disable it by putting the wrong pin in 5 times then say you forgot it then log in with google. It will keep the certificate and get rid of the pin.
Edit* use pattern not pin

You can root with saferoot, but do not try to use CWM or TWRP recoveries. Any non stock recovery will result in a brick.
And you can't downgrade either. 4.3 bootloader is locked down hard.

Okay I'm at work so I do have all the correct zip files and Odin version, but I used Odin and automobile rar. File started Odin and it failed half way through, when I tried it a second time it seemed to get further but failed also, once I unplugged and reboot, a message said the update failed to use kies to complete the update. The kies reinstalled the rom back to factory and I lost everything. .

As far as I know the CF-Auto-Root/TWRP method still works fine in Lollipop.

I am furious that this simple process has gotten hard for me. I flashed CF auto root, and it failed (as the thread said it would). I went through the steps to flash TWRP and it fails the same way THAT CF auto-root failed. I tried to use the no-download mode option on step 4 instead (like you guys suggested) and my odin just sat there. It was still on, but everything was grayed out. There was no change to my phone and it was still usable.
I rooted this phone no problem when I bought it. I just factory reset it and flashed to 5.0.1. What am I doing wrong?

Safe to take "Security policy updates" if rooted?

Got a message this morning that there was a security policy update to download. I'm thinking this is to resolve the keyboard issue - does anyone know for sure? Am I able to take the update at all if I'm rooted (but stock)? Will it break anything? Sprint version, so I don't think it's the 5.1.1 update.
i just ignore/cancel
5.1.1 is a major update which will come via an OTA.
Pretty sure the security updates have to do with updating certificates etcs on the phone though they have always been a bit vague on their purpose. If you decline them, they will just ask again. Never had a "security" issue accepting them rooted or otherwise.

Right - to clarify, I'm not talking about the major ota that updates you to 5.1.1. I'm referring to the notification that refers to "Security policy updates". It's my understanding that this has to do with the keyboard security issue, as opposed to updating the os, but I'm not sure.

Yeah I've tried the newest 6.0b version, it claims it gets root, but doesn't. Running root checker says I have root, but shortly after says I don't. Opening apps that require root, I can grant them root permission, but then it doesn't actually obtain it.

I have the same question. According to the release notes for 21r, the purpose was to update security. It appears that this is the stagefright patch.
EDIT: Appears to still be rootable.
There have been a number of security issues of a magnitude that require patches. Whether rooting is a primary reason is debatable but based on the small % that root I doubt it is a major concern.

Would not surprise me. AT&T has strangely been releasing a lot of updates over the last 6 months or so which is very unlike them. I have to wonder if they have not been working to prevent rooting as rooting has become harder and harder.

The short answer is: yes, it is rootable.
The long answer: It took me many hours to wipe and update my phone. I had to try the factory reset a few times for it to finally work (I got stuck at "stage 2"), it was almost two hours waiting for the updates to download, and then I had to try the one-click root script a few times, but finally I have 21R with SuperSU on my phone. Yay. Also, the Zimperium stagefright detector says that my phone is no longer vulnerable. Yay.

Looks like I will go through the long process of unrooting now. Been avoiding the OTAs since lollipop update because of the hassle of having to unroot. I am glad to see that AT&T actually worked quickly with LG on patching stagefright. Being able to root again was a main concern.
UPDATE: Thus far, after backing up all my data and apps (I use both LGs backup and TiBu to do batch backups), I have downgraded to stock unroot, and it took 3 OTAs (21f, 21q, and 21r) to get to where I am at. The unroot method only took about 10 minutes but I already had everything set up from my previous upgrade to Lollipop. The OTA updates were painful as they took a while to download and install (700+mB, 205mB, and 23mB respectively so about 1gig of wifi data) along with the optimization of apps each time. I have now successfully rooted.
Hey everyone 21r is rootable. I was on 21q and rooted i went back to stock went through all the updates, and then used this method here:

I noticed that USB Debugging is greyed out when connected to USB. However upon disconnecting it was able to be checked. On my second go round to root, I had to disconnect, uncheck USB debugging, reenable then plug in.
It still refuses to work for me. I didn't change the diag port from when I restored back to stock, and I've tried it a few times just now, all to no effect.
Edit: the thing finally worked for me! I just closed the command prompt after the "send_command" part didn't work for me, and just did that part over, and it worked!!
CAUTION!!!!
To anyone who has succesfully rooted 21r, don't flash TWRP! After I used AutoRec to flash it, went to TWRP, and flashed the Xposed framework, I went to reboot, and my phone wouldn't boot up! To anyone who has succesfully rooted 21r, don't flash TWRP! After I used AutoRec to flash it, went to TWRP, and flashed the Xposed framework, I went to reboot, and my phone wouldn't boot up! It kept giving the LG logo, with security error under it! I am currently in the process of flashing back to do it all over smh

You don't need to start all over. Just install the Gabriel kernel in twrp and you are good.

if you go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/orig-development/bump-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-t2900569 and download the bump'd twrp and flash it through flashify on the phone it will work and then you can use flashify to download and flash the newest twrp the new update doesnt have to be bump'd as long as the first flash is. That only refers to secure boot errors booting twrp not booting the phone.

I noticed that USB Debugging is greyed out when connected to USB. However upon disconnecting it was able to be checked. On my second go round to root, I had to disconnect, uncheck USB debugging, reenable then plug in.
