Would you get a Samsung Galaxy SII or the Galaxy Nexus, and why?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Galaxy Nexus for sure. It's newer and gets all the good Google updates, Samsung isn't known for being quick to update. I kind of wish I got a Gnex instead of my Evo LTE sometimes...

Wrong forum section but definitely GNex.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Nexus, for me the software is more important than the hardware and with the Nexus I'd be getting pure Android and quick updates, as opposed to something hacked together by Samsung which gets released if they feel like bothering.

Samsung Galaxy, the nexus is having too many quality issues.
Kinda funny though, I still want one but refuse to buy it until the forum discussions change from quality problems/workarounds to use problems/workarounds.

Nexus is newer but galaxy s2 is still getting plenty of love in development and updates, plus has additional sd storage capability so galaxy s2

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S II?

I am pretty happy with my 4month old galaxy s ii, but does anyone has this crazy thought of selling your galaxy S II to switch over to Galaxy nexus? Or will you stick with your current Galaxy S II?
I was thinking it may be a good time to experience pure google, but the hardware is certainly losing out to Galaxy S II.
I'll probably stick with my SGSII if we get ICS ( Which will probably happen ). 4,65 inch is too big for me .

I'm going to swap my sgs2 for a galaxy note! Because of the screen size It's likely to get ics quite early. Plus most of the hardware is same or better than sgs2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
There's a good chance that we'll get a basic Android 4.0 port from the Nexus Prime before we get the Touchwiz version of it, so I'm sticking with the SGSII. Best of both worlds hopefully!

I am trying so hard to resist selling my S2 to buy a Galaxy Nexus when it is released!
Nope sticking with the SGSII, the camera on the Nexus is only 5MP which is very surprising and clearly not as good as the SGSII camera, the screen too is just too big.
Will probably wait for the Galaxy S3 next year,im amazed at some people jumping ship all the time, they must have plenty of money too.
The camera(front and back going by the sample pics ) on the Galaxy Nexus is is also worse then Galaxy S2....So definitlly not.

No way of selling my SGS2 for a 4.65" nexus.

The only thing I don't like about Samsung is that it takes forever to do a single update… ~.~.

Exactly...but especially those guys saying the galaxy note with the 5.3inch screen is ok size. Excuse me, but I like putting my phone in my jean pocket, and its already tight with the sgs2.....
I have a SGS2 but if I had the money I buy immediatley a Galaxy Nexus xD
Waiting to see how ICS will be implemented on the SGS2.
ICS native rez is now 1280x720 which our belived SGS2 is not.
And the soft keys...well no more physical keys on ICS

I'm ready to buy one for myself too
Considering it, as I'm tired of having to wait for each update for android. I also doubt the OMAP4460 is going to be any slower than the Exynos under ICS.
Definitley not.. I love my s2 and judging by the reviews of galaxy nexus, it's not worth it..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I'm still a bit disappointed the SGS2 didn't have NFC
OMAP4460 Is pretty much the same cpu performance, grathics will be a bit worse, but more highend games have powervr versions so it will be much of a muchness.
Though due to the higher screen resolution might be a bit slower.
I am very tempted by the galaxy nexus, ics quickly and ota updates from google, go fast updates!
We shall see how much it costs, my mother wants an android phone so maybe I can flog my sgs2 to her.

I got the captivate in January, followed by the HTC inspire on release day, followed by the infuse on release day as well. 3 weeks after I got infuse, I returned it and got my S2 in June and for the first time ever, i was, and still am extremely happy with my S2 and have no intentions of upgrading until the S3. No need to. This phone is the bomb in my opinion. I would like to try ice cream sandwich, not going to buy a phone just for a new operating system, which with eventually get ported to the S2 and definitely be shipped on the S3

SAMSUNG
Samsung's Galaxy Nexus already has Ice Cream Sandwich, of course, and most Nexus S phones should have already received an over-the-air update. The status of Android 4.0 for other Samsung smartphones is less clear. Here's what we know, for now:
- Samsung Nexus S phones started getting Ice Cream Sandwich on December 16. If you own a Nexus S, you should be using an Ice Cream Sandwich device at this point.
- The Samsung Galaxy S II will get Android 4.0 in the first quarter of 2012, as will the Galaxy Note.
- The Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy Tabs were both on track for Ice Cream Sandwich, until they weren't, until they were again, maybe. Basically, Samsung claimed that they would update the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab to Android 4.0 and then announced that they would not, due to the limitations of the device's RAM and ROM to run both ICS and a bit of touch-interface software called TouchWiz simultaneously. Now, apparently bowing to consumer pressure, Samsung is re-examining ICS for the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tabs, as reported by MSN Korea.
Huffington Post
The source code was released as well..
I don't see the Galaxy S 4g on there. I only see Galaxy S. They're completely different phones. Just give up hope!
Every phone company does this- even htc. No one releases more than one, two updates at the most. Hell, Motorola was releasing phones running 1.6 on Sprint when Froyo was released.... can't make it up. Give it about six months and they will kill off the Nexus S, when the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Plus 2 is released (I made that phone up, but you get my point). They did it with the original Nexus, which had, according to the other corner of XDA, more than enough hardware to run an ICS port.
Remember guys, if you want ICS, go ahead and spend $600.00 on a Galaxy II, which will be outdated in 3 months. It's cheap.
That's how you run a business in a capitalist environment. I'm a little surprised Apple keeps rolling out updates for their devices for so long.

yes it is part of the galaxy s line.
Also why the hell would samsung release ICS for an old phone and dump newer phones.
This phone is much faster than the GT-19000. It would only make so much sense.
This is a galaxy s phone.
The specs of samsung galaxy phones say either Galaxy Phone(e.g. galaxy 3), Galaxy S Phone(e.g. Galaxy S 4G) or Galaxy S II Phone(e.g. Gt-19100)
Anyway, if not then we just have to wait till most of our contracts expire.(or later) then we can get Jelly Bean(potential name for Android 5.0)
Samsung took months and months to release gingerbread,I doubt we getting anything..anytime soon

hi,as the title says which phone should i get next ?,i already have a sony ericsson xperia neo and was thinking about galaxy nexus and galaxy note !,should i wait for the new note maybe ? or the new nexus ? or go for one of them ?,thanks
If you need one now buy the note, if you can wait if say wait some interesting things due out within the next 4 to 5 months, iPhone 5, windows 8 phones, new Nexus, maybe new Note, new HTC note type device maybe, new Sony phones and such. Should be an interesting 4th quarter for new releases in time for the holidays.

Note is the better device simply because of its size. It's a beast and still performs well using the enxyos cpu. If the size isn't an issue the note would be my preferred device from your options. Pure Google is fine but can get boring after a while at least with the note you can still get the pure Google experience via custom roms. It's been upgraded to ICS as well so even better.

It first of all has to be carrier specific weither you prefer 4g, speed, or truly unlimited data. I have been with both Tmobile, version, and sprint. Overall I prefer sprint for the 3g on day to day and since they just got LTE I plan on staying. The viper looks amazing as does the EVO LTE. I would stay away from the windows phones unless you plan on rooting it into an android phone but make sure there is some decent development first. Overall I love android and will never go back! Samsung and HTC make great devices I've had from both but look at cnet and engadget for reviews they haven't steered me wrong yet. Good luck!!

People aren't reading the OP. He's on sprint which means he has three decent options. He could kick-it-old school with the best Americanized S2 (Epic 4G Touch), go pure with the Galaxy Nexus, or have some sense and go LTEvo.

The Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC Evo 4G LTE are the most expensive and the same price, but it's kind of a toss up as to which one's better. I think the HTC Evo 4G LTE scores slightly better, but honestly, I don't think you'd see much of a difference in actual use. I'd guess that the Evo handles drops/falls better than the S III though, and that would be a big factor for me.
So the HTC Evo 4G LTE and Samsung Galaxy S III are the most expensive, then the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, then the cheapest is the Samsung Galaxy S II. On a few benchmark tests, the Samsung Galaxy S II using its latest OS, Ice Cream Sandwich, was faster than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. But in a few weeks, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be getting Jelly Bean, which is supposed to be a much more refined version than Ice Cream Sandwich. I'm guessing that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Jelly Bean would be faster than Ice Cream Sandwich on the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Personally, I'd get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, just so I could get the newest version of Android. But if you want to save $50, the Samsung Galaxy S II is a great choice too.
Get an iPhone bro.

Debating on new phone: Galaxy Nexus or SGS3??!!

Hey guys, I'm planning on getting a new phone contract and I'm really debating on 2 phones.. the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S3.
I'm right now using a Nexus S which I'm really happy with but Rogers is offering a really nice plan extremely better than my actual one and cheaper.
I'm just looking for some opinions from you guys to help me chose.
Thanks.
I never understood this kind of a question. It is just too subjective with so many factors. If having the latest and greatest software is important go with a Nexus. If not....you really need to compare and decide what is right for you. They are both great phones. I suggest handling them both and get a good feel for each.

S3 is supposedly getting updated to JB late in the fourth quarter 2012.
If you can wait, well then I say go for the S3, if not then go with the Nexus. Personally, my opinion is to grab the S3. You are on XDA after all! Grab yourself a custom Jelly Bean ROM! (The devs are everywhere on the S3 thread, expect one to come out soon if it hasn't come already.)
Definitely the s3 if you are a rooter or not because even tho the s3 doesn't have jelly bean officially its definitely worth the wait. The s3 has a faster processor, better screen, more ram, bigger battery, and overall newer hardware! Its worth the wait for jelly bean!

SGSIII if you like modding, installing new ROM's etc,
Nexus if not as you will get the latest firmware more or less first.
hi maxx1601! i've a galaxy nexus and personally i think is the best android phone for some reason: first it's the official google phone, so the android developing is based on it and with jelly bean google resolved the few ICS's bugs; second it has a dual core cpu (is enough for all android operation and using, we don't need more), that make battery good against the gsIII that has in my opinion too many power enhancements like quad core cpu ecc. that cause battery drain under android, has got a user interface that is second to google pure UI, that personally love; gsIII has olso a too big display ( nexus display is enough bigger, good for browsing, gaming, texting, using apps like maps and google earth that need a large display). my advice is to buy the galaxy nexus, and don't forgot, the price is olso a good thing to keep in mind it costs only 399 $ now ( mabe less i don't know) and is full supported for updates by google and developers that have a solid base made by google. i hope it helps, I wish you have a good choice! :fingers-crossed:

Agreed. HOX worth consideration... Amazing screen, hardware and build quality. Upgraded from GNex and very happy I did. Screens side by side makes AMOLED cringe worthy.

And samsung was supposed to have ICS for most of their phones in the first quarter and didnt release them until the 3rd quarter. Thats probably the nicest thing about owning the nexus you know that you will get the updates and you will get them on time. The SIII will get support for updates until the next flagship samsung phone comes out and then they will put it on the back burner just like they did with the SII, skyrocket etc... That was the most frustrating part when i had my skyrocket, i had a phone that was less than a year old, had decent hardware and i knew it would probably never get updated past ICS, because once the SIII came out samsung and AT&T had moved on.

Hey ive got an Galaxy Nexus now for over two month and I must say its just awesome, especially in combination with these forums (There are tons of good roms for the GNEX=
The best part about the phone is the stock android experience but thats personal preference.
I also tested the S3 and its a great phone but i dont like the Samsung custom Software that much.
I've had the Galaxy s3 for about a month now and love it.the camera options are awesome, decent selection of ROMs available and some cool compatibility programs if you have dlna devices at home.
