Anyone having issues with tethering? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I can't seem to get any tethering apps to work. No barnacle, Android wifi tether for root users, Foxfi, nothing...I'm rooted and unlocked, currently running the rooted stock 2.20 ROM, but I've also had Milestone 6.3 and 6.4 AOKP and same issue.
The wireless network shows up on my PC, but I can never connect to it. Any ideas?

Answered my own question.
In the Wifi tether app settings, change device profile to generic ICS, then hit menu and reinstall binaries. Worked immediately for me after that. Haven't tried barnacle again because I didn't need it, but Wifi Tether for Root users works great.

[Q] Wifi tether (rooted) not Working htc evo

I just got a brand new replacement evo from sprint that came with froyo 2.2 on it.
I rooted using this method
and now I am on the stock 2.2 rom that came with unrevoked pt 2. when flashing
I've installing 5 different versions of wifi tether and none of them work
windows just says "no network access"
then when I plug in USB and select "usb tether" from the dropdown
I get "error 67. Registration Failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. please try again."
I have a feeling it has something to do with this particular version of Root I did.
I have superuser access and can delete sprint apps.
but in adb shell I still see $
because last time I rooted wifi tether worked like a charm, and the stock htc usb tether also worked no questions asked.
I know I could always use pda net, but it's nice to know the phone will work out of the box with any computer.
any words of wisdom on this? should I just install some custom rom that has it built in? I rather like the stability of stock Roms.
was I supposed to flash radio? I really have no idea and have been trying to figure this out for a few hours now.
Android Version: 2.2
baseband version: 2.15.00.07.28
kernel version: 2.6.32.15-g746f4f0
software number: 3.26.651.6
browser version: Webkit 3.1
PRI version 1.40_003
Use android tether
I could never get the sprint/htc apps to work. I'm using the android wired/wireless tether apps and they work fine.
Just google android wifi tether and android wired tether, I can't post links.
So...
I have the same issue with my evo I just purchased... were you able to fix it? Neither of those programs worked for me.
Not working for me as well...
i just got my evo friday oct 15th... fresh root and wifi tether is not working, seems to want to activate the sprint tether as well, im thinking i have to load a new rom and ditch the stock rom.... in order for it to work, kinda bums me out, didnt wanna mess with the roms out there... any advice on how to remove the sprint tether app ?
wifi tether
I just recently got my evo also and was running into the same problems as yall. After lots of research and deleting stuff off of the phone that i wasnt supposed to i had to flash back to complete stock and reroot with unrevoked3. as it turns out only certain kernels work with the wifi tether. and as far as the sprint native wifi or tethered ones those you have to pay for. its an extra 30 bucks a month. the unrevoked3 method seemed to be the easiest method out. but thats just my opinion. hoped this helped out guys. oh yeah the unrevoked3 root works just fine with the wifi tether (rooted)

What process did you use? Does that include the USB tether as well?
I don't think the usb tether works with the WiFi tether. I am pretty sure it is just a wireless tether. The unrEVOked3 method I used was the latest one from the website.
Sent from my unrEVOked3 EVO using the XDA app.
I run Fresh and havn't had problems with tethering.

The USB tether fix supposedly works for wifi too. It disables authentication so you can use the stock hotspot app.
can you confirmed you have root? use the unrevoked forever method, quite easy. the next thing is install Wireless Tether for root, idk why hotspot is turning on. at this point it's useless.
if your haveing problems useing android wifi tether 2.02 on your rooted evo witch is the one offerd in Market then goto android wifi tether site and download the experimental version 2.05 copy the .apk to SD card and install it, it works great

[Q] having trouble with wifi tether........

im having trouble with wifi tether on my charge im getting a pop up stating that my kernal isnt capable then with another wifi tether app im getting a pop up that states my phone isnt rooted can anyone give me some suggestions thanx
Need more info!
Is your phone rooted? Do you know what Root is? Are you running a custom ROM? What wifi-tether are u attempting to get working?
If the kernel error is true I think barnacle usually works in those cases

i have had this issue as well when i was running the gummycharged as well just curious as to what i have been doing wrong or if there is something i didnt install when i flashed in odin
check your root. Check the superuser app in your app drawer. also attempt to use something that requires root. Also, what app are you attempting to use for the tethering?
the app wipe cache asks for super user access and then it is granted phone also shows root access the app im using for tethering is wireless tether

[Q]: Is tethering working for your Moto Atrix & latest The DarkSide ROM?

I have an unlocked AT&T Moto Atrix 4G, that I previously had The DarkSide v1.5 installed. Mobile Wifi Tethering worked fine (as it didn't with the stock ROM, and required a damn tethering subscription to use the feature). So, last night, I followed the instructions and wiped and flashed to the latest The DarkSide ROM v3.1. Tethering now requires a subscription again ("Account not set up for Mobile Hotspot, goto att.com/mywireless... yada yada...).
How do I get it back?
I have thia exact same problem. Wireless tether for root users is also not working. Anyone have any suggestions?

[Q] previously rooted, now on VZ JB allows USB tether but not wifi hotspot?

I have unlimited data on Verizon, and when the 4.1.1 OTA first rolled out it blocked any tether/hotspot attempt by asking me to pay an additional $30 dollars to share the data.
So I flashed back to 4.0.4 and rooted, and used SQL Lite to edit the entitlement check to "0" before installing Voodoo and saving root. I updated back to 4.1.1 and lost my root somehow (probably because I didn't update the binaries or something?) but the entitlement check seems to have stayed.
However, my issue now is that I can't hotspot whatsoever as the phone tells me wifi hotspot is on, but none of my devices pick up the wifi signal. The only way I can get internet through my phone is if I use a USB tether, which is kind of a bummer since I would like to connect multiple devices in different locations. Can anyone figure out where I went wrong in the prior steps?

How did you flash back to 4.0.4? I wonder if you are still running the 4.1.1 kernel now. I think you may have to factory reset and use one of these procedures such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970267 which flashes a fresh 4.0.4 where you can root and vodoo rootkeeper BEFORE upgrading to JB. I have wifi tether working on JB using the SQL Lite edit process.

Wifi Tether in upgraded JB

Well, finally got the JB update installed. I installed wifi tether and applied the settings that worked in ICS. There is no way I can get the phone to broadcast the SSID using wifi tether. The phone will broadcast the SSID when trying to use the native app in the phone settings menu.
So, what is the work around for getting a wifi tether app working in JB?
Thanks guys
Also wondering the answer to this. Did a bit of looking and it does appear that there's issues on other devices with 4.1 and 4.2 as well. Might just have to wait for the app devs to update.

Odd
I use wifi tether for root ver. 3.2-beta2 with my phone on the JB update. Using device-profile "generic ICS/JB (wlan0)" and device-setup "Netd-Ndc (master)". In fact I am posting this using it right now, not sure why it wouldn't work for others too.

have you tried foxwi it works for me rooted or not
I am having this problem as well with wifi tether not working. Anyone figure out anything on this yet?
When i first flashed to Jelly Bean and loaded wifi tether trev e mod, it wasnt working. I played with some settings and now it is. I havent touched anything since i got it working because i wasnt sure what setting made it work and I need it to work. Here are my settings.
Device-Profile is Auto
Setup-Method is Auto
Channel 01
I enable access control
I checked "keep alive"
I disabled wake-lock
Any other boxes are not checked
Hope this works for some of you other guys
Posting for the benefit of others who may be looking for current info: I am running the latest 4.1.2 stock build 9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5 with only root using the trevE mod wifi tether. The settings that work for me are generic ics/jb (wlan0) netd-ndc and most importantly: wifi driver reload. Without that last part I couldn't get it to recognize the ap was running from my tablet or other devices.
ssid
Q is now up at 4.1.2 and with cwm reinstalled. The ssid from wifi tether is showing up on the old photon. I found 3 fastboots one I had didn't work
any more (unrecognized variable). the one that worked came from SykkNyzz. So I was able to restore stock recovery and do the OTA for JB.
Also phone is unlocked and rooted. Update said failed. Ithink it had something to do with being rooted. Reinstalled cwm and it fixed root problem
Reactivated phone. Son far looks good.
Tethering is working fine with my PhotonQ via THIS app. Version which i have is 3.2 beta2.
Settings is:
Device-Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Netd-Ndc (master)
Wifi-Encryption: Enabled
Passphrase: <whatever>
SSID: Whatever
Channel: 07 (but all of them should work)
Don't disable bluetooth: NOT checked
Wifi-driver reload: checked
Keep Alive: checked
Websites to check for keep alive: default
Keep-alive interval: 5
Keep-alive failure options: Keep trying
MSS clamping: NOT checked
Routing fix: NOT checked
Disable Wake-Lock: checked
