Vanilla htc1x rom ... what about sOFF? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi all,
I currently have the nexus one and I love the vanilla experience (though MiUi is pretty decent too). I have been running ICS on it but it still feels kinda laggy.
I am considering upgrading to the 1x, but I want to be sure that I can root it, enable tethering, and run a vanilla rom rather than the HTC sense junk. I see too many roms in the development page (I think the organization of such topics is kinda a problem but thats a question for another post), and want to know if there are any that offer a stable vanilla ICS or JB experience.
Also, I know that gaining S-Off is still in a development stage for this phone, but is it necessary? Can we flash custom roms without that?

if you're talking about the AT&T version of the One X(L) make sure the one you get is running 1.85 firmware or lower. 2.20 is unrootable and without root we can't unlock the bootloader either.
S-off isn't needed right now except to unlock the 2.20 firmware.
There are flavors of AOSP for both ICS and Jellybean. ICS versions of AOKP and CM9 are both VERY good since we have source code for the kernel for android 4.03 although it is incomplete because we still don't have drivers for the camera.

Rooting Android 2.2 for Desire

Now that Froyo has been released, if I install the official version from HTC I cannot root my phone and go back to my original ROM if I need to, for warranty purposes. I would prefer the stock official version, as I am not interested in trying to deal with any problems that the custom ROM's may have. So my question is how long do you think it may be, until we will be able to root Android 2.2?
What about checking all the rooted Android 2.2 ROMs in this forum?

Kernel Options for Tmobile 2.35

Can someone list some kernel options that will work with the latest tmobile build 2.35
Ive become painfully aware after owning my One S for one day, that there isnt much love for the latest tmobile base. I prefer not to take the rout of downgrading my hboot yet.

ATT HTC One X Rooting Questions

Ok First my device information:
AT&T HTC One X USA bought.
It is is 4g LTE.
Android Version: 4.0.4
HTC Sense version: 4.0
Software number: 2.20.502.7 710RD
First Question:
Ok, so i have read around and im assuming im Sh*t out of luck with the 2.20.
Anyways i was wondering if there is any tutorials you guys have confirmed working for my version ect of htc one x.
Second Question:
My goal of rooting is only to be able to install a cheat engine cause i like to have fun in games.
I Do not at this time want to install custom roms or anything.
I Really like my phone Stock and the rom i have on it Stock to avoid any problems such as a decreased battery life with other roms and various other things not working ect.
Question is can i root this version of htc one x while keeping the the original stock rom? I don't like flashy roms ect. I love stock. ????
Third Question:
if second question is a yes to being able to stay with stock rom, will the root itself effect anything else such as battery life ? or functions?
Thanks for anyone that can answer and if you could keep it rather simple for me that would be great.
Thanks again.

Here is a very helpful link that will answer any of your questions and more.

More specifically root for 2.20
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952038
To root, you need to do a little more than the usual root, i.e. unlock your bootloader (and voiding the warranty).
You're not forced to change the ROM, but usually custom roms are better with power/speed (and removing bloatware).
I'm running Viper's ROM and I get about a 50% increase in battery life.

[Q] Which stock android rom?

Hi haven't installed a rom on a phone in ages and looking to give my phone a bit of a facelift, currently rooted on 4.22 stock HTC with hboot 2.15 and stock kernel/pretty much everything else except tampered unlocked bootloader and the root. Which STABLE rom like cm or even cm would you recommend. Also a big reason I didn't bother going for a different rom was that the facebook htc contact sync to get numbers as well as pictures etc is great so how can I get this on a more holo based rom, or will I have to go for a sense based one. Lastly do I need to upgrade hboot and/or kernel?

how did you unlock your bootloader may i ask?
I did it before the update then used one on here that didn't lock it
All that is available are AOSP ROMs or CM11. No one has been able to get the new kitkat kernel to boot with our old firmware. :crying:
At this point, I'm happy with DU weekly builds. Don't really miss Touchwiz, I do flash MOAR sometimes. However, I still things run much better on vanilla android.

While that is correct there are several decent versions of aosp and other variations. I would seriously look around for what's available but stay away from anything that says BL LOCKED or any variation of that
From my S3 on Wicked 4.3

I've been having recurring camera reboots on my stock, rooted, BL-unlocked ROM and really want to get away from that. Does either CM or any of the crop of AOSP ROMs of 4.4 for similarly unlocked devices manage to work well w/ phone hardware (e.g., cameras work properly, mic works properly, bluetooth works properly) without being too "1337 g4m3r XT3M3!!!"? I'd like a fairly simple layout, to be honest, without a bunch of crufty, automatic extra features. Just a plain, 4.4.4 ROM that actually lets me take more than one picture before rebooting

Nope. I believe you have to pay $50 to jtag your device back to an unlocked bootloader. I maybe wrong, but i believe that is the only hope. For the time being, the only unlockable devices seem to be HTC.

No, my phone's currently on the unlocked 4.3 build floating around the forums; i was wondering which of the unlocked 4.4 builds (e.g., AOSP, Cyanogenmod) was most stable, since there isn't a TW build compatible with my unlocked bootloader.

Questions and Help issues belong in Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting...not Original Development
All the development sections are only for developers to post work
As for looking for the "best" or "most stable" ROMs it is strongly advised that you read the development threads yourself
Find out what bugs and fixes are offered in the thread and if that appeals to you, or has a bug YOU can live with
No one can pick your ROM for you nor should they...in the end only YOU know what it is best for YOU.
As a general tip, stay away from Nightlies if you want stability as new fixes and bugs are presented often in those.
