Linux distro that supports the Galaxy S3 SGH-i747 (AT&T) over USB???
Hey guys! I am taking a Linux class and for my final project I am rooting my AT&T Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747), something I have done many times before and then installing ubuntu to it. However I have a had a terrible time trying to get the USB drivers and software (Samsung Kies, Odin, etc) to work on Ubunutu. I have tried using WIne and PlayOnLinux but no joy, Have any of you had any luck getting this sort of thing to run on another distro of Linux (Fedora, Blackbox, Red Hat, etc)??? Thanks in advance for your advice?

but does it already exist then?
can i possible download it from somewhere?
No you can't. At least legally. So you won't find a thread on it here of someone haas done it. Android is open source, can be loaded on anything. WinMo is closed.
There are already threads on this in the galaxy series phones sections.

Flashing an equivalent ROM?
Surely, there must be a rom of an equivalent Samsung WP7 phone (Maybe Samsung Focus??) that can be flashed to a Galaxy S?
I Think it can boot is Darky's Rom or Original rom

Yeah, but I was wondering if a Windows Phone 7 Rom could be booted on it. That way two OSes could be on the device.
Update: it seems that some people have done the opposite - got Android on the HTC HD7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=899229). Now there is proof that it is possible at least.

In theory though is it possible to dual boot darky and original?
obviously only one file can be flashed to the ROM on the phone but I can't think of a good reason why a grub loader type setup wouldn't be possible
I would love to have the option of darky for most days but a stripped down ROM for travelling or if I'm away from a plug for 12hrs + (no internet dependent apps, background apps etc. thus longer battery)
hey guys, there is a app called boot manager which can multiple boot ROMs but its not working on SGS1 - does anyone know about this? and how to make it work?
cheers - maybe we can then bot ics + gb?

Rooting GT-P3113 on Ubuntu Linux

I would like to root my Galaxy Tab 2 7" so that I can use a custom ROM. However, I am having problems figuring out how to do this with Ubuntu Linux. I've rooted a couple of different phones before, but I'm far from an expert. I have ADB up and running on my computer and have downloaded heimdall and heimdall-frontend. If anyone could help me, I would be EXTREMELY thankful.

I do realize that this thread is two years old, but if you are still interested, I have a thread in the tab 2 general section on rooting in Linux.

Hi,
I think you can use Heimdall (a linux alternative to Odin for some galaxy phones) on a galaxy note 2. If it doesn't work you can maybe root it via ClockWork Mod (CWM). But Odin Mobile (an app that you can find in the Play Store) is compatible with your phone, so give it a try.
Greets,
Amin

If the hardware or version numbers are different, then a brick in your future I see...
Don't do it.
*Use google.
*Think to self, "if this goes wrong; what do I do?"
*Use google again but this time try;
* "Solved [issue or task that you need to learn] site:[web site to search, be sure to have a .com or .org or something] or similar:[same as a site search but this will expand results to include web sites similar to xda for example]
*After reading up a little, usually 15-30 minuets, you'll have an answer or be well on the way to the answer.
This applies to most things that you may want to learn in the future and are the steps I use whenever twirling an unfamiliar notion around.
If you go to the main CyanogenMod web site and look up your device, I'm sure you'll find a compatible one to download and flash. This is the most advisable way of downloading and flashing CyanogenMod to your device.

[Q] Install Linux?

Has anyone been able to install Linux on the Galaxy Note Pro? I'd really like to install it, but haven't found success using the Complete Linux Installer (my tablet is rooted). Apologies if a thread relating to this already exists!

My guess is there is no working kernel for this device, and since we don't have a working device tree to build kernels or even complete kernel source, it's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

That is a shame .. this would be great for it. Does anyone know if anyone is working on this, or who could (and how they might be encouraged)? I would love to see Linux on this!

I have not heard of anyone working on this... Unfortunately the developer support for this device is very minimal. We can't even get a basic AOSP ROM much less a full Linux distribution. Until the price comes down and some devs with a bit of skill pick this up there likely won't be much besides stock based ROMs.
