I would like to root my Galaxy Tab 2 7" so that I can use a custom ROM. However, I am having problems figuring out how to do this with Ubuntu Linux. I've rooted a couple of different phones before, but I'm far from an expert. I have ADB up and running on my computer and have downloaded heimdall and heimdall-frontend. If anyone could help me, I would be EXTREMELY thankful.

I do realize that this thread is two years old, but if you are still interested, I have a thread in the tab 2 general section on rooting in Linux.

Hey everybody,
I have the Droid 2 for a little while now and I'm interested in putting a custom ROM on it, which requires rooting lol... now that i've just stated all the obvious haha I wanna know if there is a one click method for linux users (my windows is too messed up to use and the driver doesn't install)
So ok the sum up of my question. Is there a one click method I can use for Linux (Ubuntu 10.04), if not can somebody point me in the direction of a noob friendly way to do it. I've never rooted a phone before but I have some experience with command lines and things of that nature.
Thanks for any help/advice,
-Jim
The answer to your question is Stickied. Easier 1-2-3 Root for Droid 2. Just follow directions for Mac and Linux.
First off, thanks go out to: CrimsonSentinel13, paxChristos, and DooMLorD!
A couple days ago I tested DoomLorD's Xperia X10 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v3.0](zergRush Exploit) on my windows 7 vm after using my [Heimdall][UVKJ6] Back-To-Stock Heimdall One-Click.
Today I was also successful rooting from my debian linux vm using methods 2b and 4 from this page: [HOW-TO] Root Phones w/ Android v2.2.x-2.3.x (zergRush Method)
If you are feeling squeamish, there is also a noob friendly guide in pdf format available.
I hope you find this useful.
Cool. Gonna try it on my dads phone and come back. Thanks.

Great! Let me know how it goes.
I saw another thread where they had taken the same process, but ported to mac and linux. I might test that as well, and if it works, I'll update the op.
Does this work better than SuperOneClick?

Well, I guess the SuperOneClick in the new link in the op now also uses the zergRush Exploit.
Anyways, thanks go out again to CrimsonSentinel13, paxChristos, and DooMLorD for their great howto, guide and hacks!

Hey, cool! I wanted to try a smaller set of testers at first
I'll post in the dev section after I get some testing.
For me, so far so good. Almost an hour on the new kernel.
You know you don't need this thread if you use that kernel.
If you feel like testing, check out: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11298-beta-kernel-testers/
Nothing fancy going on yet. Just stock kj6 from source with cwm+voodoo lagfix. I just want to build up a QA base for testing changes.
Don't comment about the kernel in this thread. If you don't have a rootz login, please PM me if you find problems.

Touchmate TM-MID810 Rooting Problem
Good day everyone,
I'm new here and I was looking up on how to root my Touchmate TM-MID810 Tablet.
So I tired the ways which were presented here but unfortunately none of them worked for me, also I tried using the Superoneclick v2.3.3.0 but it stucks' and keep giving me the same message (Not Responding) so if someone may have a different way or knows any other way which I can follow to root my tablet device it's be very generous from him/her to explain it to me and help me out here please; and I will be very thankful.
Waiting upon responding.

Linux distro that supports the Galaxy S3 SGH-i747 (AT&T) over USB???
Hey guys! I am taking a Linux class and for my final project I am rooting my AT&T Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747), something I have done many times before and then installing ubuntu to it. However I have a had a terrible time trying to get the USB drivers and software (Samsung Kies, Odin, etc) to work on Ubunutu. I have tried using WIne and PlayOnLinux but no joy, Have any of you had any luck getting this sort of thing to run on another distro of Linux (Fedora, Blackbox, Red Hat, etc)??? Thanks in advance for your advice?

Wrong forum!
Hi all
Not really a noon, but seem to be either drawing a blank and getting conflicting comments and information!
So, in brief, I'm running stock Samsung jelly bean 4.1.1( Taiwan version). And it works fine.
I want to root so i can get cm 10.1 for that aosp feel.
I know that Macs use heimdall (got that) and i also understand i need to be on cwm recovery, but I'm struggling to find instructions as to how to actually root!
Which files do i need ( being on stock jelly bean), to use for heimdall in order to be able to flash cm10.1?
I do not have access to a windows computer, so unfortunately can't use Odin,
If anyone can point me in the right direction, id be very grateful.
I like to contribute comments for those in need on the forums.... and i now cone cap in hand asking for assistance
Many thanks all and a happy new year to you all
If you already in how how to use Heimdall, you can find the files in my guide (link in signature) ... just use CWM-SuperSU-0.96.zip.

Hi,
I think you can use Heimdall (a linux alternative to Odin for some galaxy phones) on a galaxy note 2. If it doesn't work you can maybe root it via ClockWork Mod (CWM). But Odin Mobile (an app that you can find in the Play Store) is compatible with your phone, so give it a try.
Greets,
Amin
