Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)

This video I posted is to help people get the custom rom installed which will enable root. This is for people who do not want to go the adb shell way. This method is simpler but will require you to flash a custom ROM onto your phone. You will not have to download the SDK for this method.
*** Use at your own risk. Although i have not come across any one on forums who bricked their phone, there is sill a possibility that this can brick your phone. I take no responsibility if you brick your phone.**

Hey everyone, I made a video on this, and some people said I should do a step by step guide, so here goes.
First things first, you are going to need to download these files.

Do not extract the Rom zip file, it needs to stay in the zip.
Ok, lets do this in steps, should make it easier:
Step 1: Mount the sd card and place all the files downloaded onto the root of the sdcard.
Step 2: Download some sort of file manager, ex Estrongs File Manager, and run/open the flashrec apk.
Step 3: Once it's finished installing, unplug the usb cable, run the app, and hit the button, "backup recovery image". If you get an error, try rebooting your phone, make sure the usb cable is unplugged.
Step 4: Exit app, and mount the sd card again, and move recovery-backup.img to your desktop, then rename recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img to recovery-backup.img
Step 5: Unmount sdcard, unplug usb cable, and go back into the flashrec app(should be named recovery flasher in all programs list)
Step 6: hit restore backup image. Once finished flashing, power down phone.
Step 7: After you power down your phone, hold the Vol Down button, then hold down the power button. Phone should boot into hboot. Press home for recovery.
Step 8: To ensure you have a backup of your phone before we continue, do a nandroid v2.2 backup.
Step 9: After the nandroid backup is complete, you can now choose apply "sd card update choose", and choose the modaco or damage control rom
Step 10: Reboot your phone and you should be all set.
Any issues or anything unclear, let me know and I will try to help make it clear.

1st post here.... this vid has convinced me to take the plunge!
Just to confirm, the steps in this vid are all I need to do to get the phone rooted with the modaco rom. I don't need to go through all the other steps as long as I'm cool with flashing the rom?

What was the error you got in the vid when you did the backup with flashrec? Because I get the same error. It says "Backup FAILED: Could not run command." and I never get a button that says restore.
Should I type recovery.img in before I hit backup?

It was because I left the usb cable connected. It was being weird.

reboot fixed that.... standby....

Booted in hboot mode, pressed home for the recovery menu, HTC logo came up... then a huge
symbol with a dead Hero lying next to it! Scary.
Rebooted itself after a moment and now seems normal.
Thoughts?

Must have not installed the recovery image. Did you type it in the blank space before hitting restore recovery image ?

Yeah, I did... hmm...
I'm gonna start from the top. I think my phone was being buggy before I rebooted it the first time.... Gimme a minute....

Okie dokie

Nope. Same thing. I backup and it says backup complete. I enter recovery.img into the blank field (which is what I renamed the img file to) and hit restore and it says flash complete (or something). Then, I turn off my phone, reboot in hboot mode, hit home, get the HTC logo, then bam-- scary warning/dead phone symbol.

I'm gonna try one more thing....

Ok, let's try this. Rename the recovery img file to the name that flash rec makes. It should be recovery-backup.img . This method is said not to work with some phones. If this is correct, you're going to have to use the other method.

Rename it and then do flash rec again, or rename it and go straight to the hboot sequence?

[Guide] Android Star B92M CWM + 2.5G DATA + ROOT

First of all, all props goes to the OP of this thread. This is merely a step-by-step detailed guide on the process since there were a lot of members complaining that the steps were unclear.
- Download the following and extract all the files:
MT6577 USB VCOM drivers (link: http://www.mediafire.com/?2sf30pboet4qvov)

CWM-ROOT-B92M.zip (link: http://www.mediafire.com/?8o2yx9ssz1abwon)
2.5gb-data-perm-root.zip (link: http://www.mediafire.com/?4wg5f6rgat8qdrt)
- Install the MT6577 USB VCOM drivers drivers
- Inside the 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder make sure the files have the following names (CASE SENSITIVE!):
recovery.img
EBR1.img
boot.img
logo.img
MBR.img
preloader.img

- Turn off your phone and unplugg the USB cable
- Start SP Flash Tool
- Under options in the menubar check "USB mode"
- Under File in the menubar click on "Open scatter-loading file" and select MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt from the CWM-ROOT-B92M folder
- Double click the following rows inside SP Flash Tool:
PRELOADER and select preloader.img (from 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder)
MBR and select MBR.img (from 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder)
EBR1 and select EBR1.img (from 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder)
BOOTIMG and selet boot.img (from 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder)
RECOVERY and select recovery.img (from 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder)
LOGO and select logo.img (from 2.5gb-data-perm-root folder)
You should have the following then:
- Click on "Download" inside SP Flash Tool
- Take out the battery of the phone
- Put the battery in
- Connect USB cable with your computer
- The bar at the bottom of SP Flash tool should go to 100% a few time and present you with a green circle when done
- Done flashing, hit volume up + power to start up CWM and make a backup

I did not have to do that. I simply added a Google account, started the Google Play Store and it told me there was an update for "superuser".
Did the update, rebooted and done!

Your best option is to contact the seller and ask him for more information about this.

After flashing with 2.5GB ROM, I have issue with my camera: it detects 80MB partition as the SDcard partition.
Anyone know how to change this? Or.. which file should I look for to change the camera save location?

Make sure you have an external sd-card inserted in the phone. It should automatically be mounted to /sdcard/ where you should have enough space to store your camera photos.

What charger are you using and how fast/slw will it charge a empty battery?
Mine takes for ever (8hrs from 0%), the charger fastcardnet send me, but also a standard usb charger i got.

I'm just using the default micro USB chargers I have laying around. I never charge via a computer (USB) though.

I also wiped data and did the factory reset but there is no superuser...
What do I have to do now?
And I have another question: What do I need to do to go to the Internet by connecting to my Laptop (in it's function as a Wifi-hotspot) and using his wired-internet-connection? I only got it by Ad-Hoc but it seems that this doesn't work anyway...

Try flashing again and Superuser should be working. Once flashed I suggest you start the play store and you'll see that there is an update available.
About the Wi-fi: that's something computer related so don't know for sure about that one. I just Googled and came across this website:

I have the same problem, how did you fix it?
I had a 2.5 GB space on my Internal SD Card before I do this root, now it is 83 MB, I could try a factory reset but I still need the rooting so I will run into this problem again.

When I first did the root I did not the su.zip step so I booted my phone and it informed me that my internal SD card is damaged amd asked me if I wanted to format it, I clicked yes and then it became 83 MB, I did the root again and flashed su.zip too, I also tried to format the internal SD card but it is still 83 MB.
I think I need to reformat with specifying the new size, how can I do that?

1: Download Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and put on the root of your sd card
2: Download CWM H2000+.zip and unzip it
3: go to where you unzipped SP Flash Tool,right click flash tool and run as Admin
4: once opened Click the “Scatter-loading” button
5: Go to where you unzipped CWM H2000+.zip and load the scatter file
6: Power off the phone completely
7: click Download in the SP Flash tool,Click yes and connect the phone to USB
8: Once flashed you should see the green circle,when you see this its safe to remove the device
9: Press the power on + volume up buttons to go into CWM recovery
10: when in CWM backup your rom making sure you have a min of 1gb free on the memory card
11: once finished go to install zip,select from sd card and go to Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip and install
12: once intalled go back to the main CWM,wipe cache and go advance and wipe dalvic cache
13: reboot the phone
14: You are now rooted
15: Enjoy!
*Please note this will not work if you are running windows 8

make sure you have the drivers intalled correctly,when you open flash tool make sure you open as admin and put the superuser zip on the main bit of the sd card,not in any folders and should work,when you reboot to see if it has worked you will see the superuser app in the app draw.

I´m looking forward to try your rooting method since i only want to get rid of the three annoying buttons at the buttom, but is there anyone who could tell me how to do a BACKUP in case something goes wrong and i want to get my phone into its original form? there are a lot of threads about it, i know, but i didnt understand them. could one of you please tell me how to? But i still can not root my phone. I had try deferent computers but nothing. Is it possible to find some other drivers? Because at the procedure i am hearing two times the connection and disconnection of the USB. (At Xp and Win 7). I made all the steps as you describe. I believe that is a driver problem but i do not know how to resolve it. Any suggestions? Thanks again for your time.:good:

No. Just flash a working rom (search for H2000+_121225_MT6628)

Good night to all, sorry for opening this old thread but I'm in a biggest problem(not for you guys). Explain the problem:
I want to root my phone, a Hero H2000+, following this tutorial and others. When root is OK I try to backup the system with CWM Recovery but the backup doesn't make full. The backup always stop in the Backup system... and this doesn't continue. Because this doesn't continues I restore defaults in the Android system, but when the phone reboots it enter into recovery mode(CMW Recovery) and then "Formatting /data" and "Formatting /cache" and then??? It doesn't reboot, this stay here. On this stage I was bloked but following this tutorial my phone now reboots when enter to CWM Recovery and reboot and reboot. Fuc**** loops!!! What can I do to revive the phone???!!
The CWM Recovery I used is ClockworkMod 6.0.2.8 with Scatter and flashed with SPFlash Tool v3.1222.00.

It's okay. If you can get into recovery you're alright. If you have removable sd, take it out of your device and hook it up to your pc. Download a rom that is confirmed to be working with your device and copy it to your sdcard then replace sdcard in device and flash.
If there's no removable sdcard you can use adb in recovery. Hook up phone to pc and boot to recovery. In your terminal (linux):
cd /path/to/download
Adb push /mnt/sdcard.
If you don't have adb set up on your computer just look around the net, there are tons of tutorials.
(I think The commands in windows command prompt are almost the exact same just use cd c:\path\to\download instead for the directory command)

If you have recovery you could turn on mass storage mode under /mounts then move the rom you want to your sdcard, wipe data, caches, and system then flash. But you should really update your recovery first. No wiping needed there.

Step 1: update your recovery. Flash this:

Updating your recovery is a fine idea (make sure you grab the right recovery image) but it's not completely necessary. For now you just want to find a stable rom for your device, download it to your pc (it will be a zip file) do not extract, simply copy and paste to the root of sdcard. Once the file is on your sd go to "install from .zip" I haven't used cwm in forever so I'm sure somebody else will correct me if I'm wrong. Then *select .zip from sdcard" find the rom you downloaded and select it. Scroll down to yes or install or whatever it says and select it. It will do the rest. Reboot and enjoy.
Ps. You should probably wipe system, factory reset and wipe cache and dalvik cache before installing.

I already say I can't quit from here ... I twice eject battery, but when put and turn on device mobile show me again this....((((((((... I think maybe it need some processes from odin software .. ? ?

You said you can only turn on clockwork mod recovery in your op. I'm not certain about your device but pressing power+home+volume down is download mode. Power+home+volume up or power+home+volume up and volume down will get most Samsung devices into recovery.

That's download mode. You can flash in odin in that mode

Thanks Now I'm downloading file from here
This problem is because it's my first samsung mobile .galaxy s2 ... before i have only htc and i like it , because I can easy root , unlock or change rom ... I'm always downloading files from this site and I think It's best site for mobile devices

What specific s2 do you have? Is it an i727?

Then you are downloading the right file. The file is a zip file. You'll have to extract the .tar.md5 file out of it to use it in Odin. Use 7 zip to do that

Installing twrp and rooting the sm-t116 (tab 3 lite 7.0 3g)

IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR TAB OR DECIDE TO BE CARELESS OR CREATE A CYCLONE... you know the drill.
HOW TO ROOT SM-T116 TAB 3 LITE 7.0 3G VOYAGE-XX ( Galaxy Tab 3 Lite VE (3G) (SM-T116 ))
After searching for over a month on how to root/install twrp all i cound find were instructions for the SM-T110/1...
if thread already exists pls notify
N.B I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS RECOVERY IN ANYWAY
I am writting to help fellow SM-T116 owners... Since ive been searching for a long time.... I believe there isnt a guide to root this Tab yet.
- N.B MAKE SURE you device's code name is goyave or goyave3g
1. Download the twrp recovery here
- download the recovery in .tar format...
- you will upgrade to v3 manually.
2. Download Odin v3.10.* here
-> copy them to a place you know on ur pc such as Desktop
3. Boot your Tab 3 lite to download mode by: pressing "power + home + vol down"
-> believing all your drivers are installed correctly
3.1 open Odin*.exe ,
3.2 connect your tab and press volume up...
-> at this stage Odin should recognise your device
on the ID:COM section like

4. UNTICK AUTO REBOOT or you wont be able to enter recovery
5. Tap pn AP and go to the recovery you downloaded.
select it
6. Press on Start to begin the flashing process
-> After Odin flashes the recovery it will tell you PASS!
7
7.1. Preas and hold POWER + VOLUME DOWN
7.2. when the screen goes black change and hold HOME + VOLUME UP
Now you will enter TWRP... stage 1 done.
rooting on post #2:good:​

Now TWRP is functional... Time to root.
1. Download Chainfire's SuperSu flashable zip here
-> and thanking is not a crime.
2. Reboot to recovery...
ALLOW TWRP TO MODIFY THE SYSTEM PARTITION
3.1. Select install
3.2. navigate to your supersu zip
/sdcard/* or /extsdcard/*
-> when you are at the folder where your zip is it will be on the dialog on the right.
4.1. select it
4.2. swipe to confirm
4.3. select wipe cache/dalvik and reboot...
Now you have a Custom Recovery and you are rooted... Doors open.
Becarefull to not to open the wrong doors ​

U r probably comfused cause there aren't any numbering as to what to do first.

i will help you,
1: install kingoroot on your pc
2:Enable USB debugging
3:connect your phone to pc wait for processing
4:when 99% your phone automatically restarted, do not put off the usb cable when it complete
5:hope your phone will b e rooted

I have this tab as above, it is locked(programmed) using an administrative app named Cellwe EMM. Basically i cannot download anything on this tab with neither usb nor sdcard including the internet. All i have to do to get rid of this security is wipe using custom recovery. When i get the tab in download mode it has this MDM DOWNLOAD BLOCK which block me from flashing and installing custom recovery in this tab. My only hope is if i can create an update.zip for twrp or cwm to be installed in this tab using stock recovery. This is where i need help,can someone create this for me or help me with a guide to do this

Hahaha not possible... the update.zip need to be signed by Samsung specifically...
Unless you get a modified stock recovery which needs to be flashed via Odin...
