Gallery stopped showing all my photos - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

So my gallery stopped showing any of my photos or pictures, but it will show new photos that I take with my camera. I've wiped reflashed and restored with titanium, also wiped reflashed and not used titanium, and still have the problem. I'm at a loss. Has anyone had this issue before? I also tried a couple of gallery apps, they show the same thing. I can see all of the missing files in the file manager, and view them with its built in picture viewer. I'm stumped.

It is stated in the not working part of the Rom description that galleries weren't working :what:

I saw in the op for cm10 alpha that videos crashed the gallery, I never tried to open one. I did a search through the thread again and found a post about rom manager dropping a .nomedia file on the root of the sd. Turns out thats what messed me up. Deleted the file, updated rom manager, wiped data on media storage, rebooted. Everything's back! Thanks for the help, now I can get some sleep. Knowing my phone was futzed was keeping me up.

Same pictures multiple times in gallery

Ok so I'm running cog, the latest one, and when I go to the pics on my external sd, it is showing 4 of each pic. However, when I go to the folder there is only one copy. Anybody seem this or know how to fix it?

It's the Gallery app bug in the leaked Froyo ROM we have. I know my JI6 had this problem from day one. There is no sure way to fix it.
The official Galaxy S Froyo ROM released in Europe is not better either. Its Gallery app has a nasty battery drain bug.
Try this without having to reflash.
Connect to PC and MOVE all of your pictures to your PC. Delete anything you see inside .thumbnails in the DCIM folder (from your default Camera storage). Move all of your pictures back to your phone. If you accidentally copied a .thumbnails folder, make sure you don't move that back in. Gallery will reindex all of your pictures and create new thumbnails.
Just deleting .thumbnails and a reboot works for me when/if this happens.

That didn't work for me. I just tried it. My gallery started showing multiple photos again. I think this only happens when I connect to my PC at work (and/or home) and browse photos using Explorer.
same thing happening to me, i have 3 of each photo on the sd card
Try going to your picasa web albums at picasaweb.google.com/home
login with the gmail account you use on your phone and look at your web albums
By default the gallery app / android will sync with picasa web albums, so anything added there will appear in gallery.
I've never used picasa but I'm gonna give it a try.

Move everything into your internal sd card. I know it sucks and it's not as secure but just make sure you backup regularly. It got really annoying deleting the thumbnails once a week and it hasn't happened since I shifted everything to my internal sd.
I had the same problem. Not once, but twice. The first time I deleted the copies from my PC then rebooted. For awhile that seem to work, but just today I had the same problem in multiples of 8 for each pic.
Hopefully someone finds a fix for this
FROYO.UCJI6 Rooted, same issue except I have multiple icons for same pics that dont even exist on the phone anymore. Ive killed gallery, deleted every copy of .thumbnails I can find, rebooted..etc. No avail, folders that no longer exist on the phone show up in gallery, with multiple thumbnails for the same pic, very annoying.
I've been flashing roms like crazy here recently and haven't has problem yet. Though it is said it a leaked rom bug so I'll see if out happens again.

I also had that same problem with the cog ROMs. I tried many of the suggested solutions, including deleting .thumbnails. Unfortunately, nothing ever worked.
I have since switched to Perception, and I haven't had that problem since.
Ok..here is the fix from other thread
With root explorer delete:
- /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.media/externalXXX.db
- /sdcard/Android/data/com.cooliris.media
reboot
Good luck

And when i try to delete them it takes ages and i have to close the app or else it eats my battery... Anyone is having the same problem?

Photo Dupes
Here is a post from cgm8 (10th December 2010). See if it resolves your problem.

photos keep duplicating themselves.
I too had the same issue. I would have 5 copies of each picture in my gallery. I was hesitant to delete the files recommended below with Root Explorer so I just used Root Explorer to rename the files (removed the db on one and the word media on the other) rebooted and many of the dupls disappeared on their own, the originals were fine. We'll see if it lasts.. also, anything I really did want to delete manually deleted very quickly.
I found the easiest way to deal with this is to go into manage applications>all>media storage>clear data...then reboot
problem solved..
I just downloaded sgs tools for captivate then apply the script "clear_thumb_db.txt"

Any idea as to what causes this?
well i fixed it using the manage apps option above.. just a few hours after it happened to me.. talk about timing!
This always happens to me if I root/unroot the phone with my sdcard in. If I take it out before hand its fine.
I just mount my phone and open all the massstorages and delete the thumbnail files in the DCIM folders and that works fine. You have to understand all the copies you see are thumbnails and deleting via the phone thru gallery can delete the real image...
i have never un-rooted..

Photos in DCIM become unusable...

So I hand fed a few .jpg images to my DCIM/100MEDIA folder since I was having some issues with them becoming unreadable, They just seem to disappear, then I find them in File browser, but no longer exist in gallery, limiting editability for use as desktops and such... Using thunder and lightning 1.3
Im having the same issue but Im running VirusRom. Gallery doesnt work unless I manually find the image thru a file explorer and choose the gallery option. But just opening gallery from app tray does nothing, or opening gallery thru wallpaper does nothing.
There has been some talk that these MicroSD cards are crap. Mine started corrupting pictures and then failed completely, had it replaced by Verizon.
Weird. I haven't had that issue and I transferred some photo's from my OG Droid DCIM folder.
I was having this problem with all roms. I had to back up my SD, format it, and then put everything back. Haven't had a problem since.

Now they're disappearing completely, even images taken with the phones cam/vid. Cheap SD cards make a little sense... I have formatted, almost every ROM... I'll check it out.
By chance, do you happen to have a .nomedia file in any of these directories that are "losing images" or making photos "unusable".
If so, this would be your issue. Remove that file and they will show up in Gallery again.

What is this symbol mean? Some of my pictures/vids no longer "working"

Problem: Some of my pictures and videos no longer work and they show either one of the symbols (shown in attachments). I can't seem to figure out any sort of pattern other then the majority of them seem to be older pictures/vids. When I mount my phone to my computer it can locate problem files but cannot open them. "media player cannot open file because it is unsupported" or something to that extent.
I'm running Clean Rom 4.0 SE
I recently deleted some old TitBackups and some old Rom back ups....is it possible when I backed up it corrupted some of my files? I'm not positive if the pictures/vids were working before I had done this or after.
The file is probably corrupted. There have been a few threads where people have flashed things and lost pictures and videos on their phone storage.

A temporary .nomedia file permanently hid everything

Hey everyone,
I was reorganizing my pictures on the sdcard when I began testing CM's new Gallery app (GalleryNext). At that time, I decided I wanted to reorganize my files. I used ES file explorer to search for a .nomedia file and copied the first result to the root of the sdcard while I looked a permanent place to put it after deleting and moving pictures. Looking back at the gallery, I noticed suddenly that all pictures disappeared from my gallery, which I expected.
However, after I moved the .nomedia file AND rebooted (several times), I've noticed my gallery is STILL empty. I also noticed PlayerPro doesn't see any music. My alarm app (Gentle Alarm) however still plays music to wake me up and the MediaMonkey app can see the music. What is going on? ES is set to show hidden files, the .nomedia files are where they need to be. I first cleared data on both Google and CM galleries (which didn't work), then I uninstalled Gallery Next (didn't work), and I tried SD Scanner which is an app that can trigger media scan on KK (I know the old methods don't work on KK). I also reflashed my ROM. After reflashing, I got ONE photo from my gallery to appear.

I also got this problem. My solution is transfer all files to computer, then format sd card. BUT all data will gone if you not backup first.such as RR3 data.

Yeah I just ended up copying everything elsewhere and reflashing the factory image, then re-doing everything. Although, it would have been nice not to. Just part of the gamble when using nightlies I guess.
I had the same problem few days ago.
I deleted appdata from settings, apps, all apps, gallery, then rebooted and used this app to fix it:
