[Q] in bootloader s-off but on top it shows locked - HTC Sensation

Hi I got this cell with pre installed insert coin rom in bootloader it showed revolutionary and S-off
And hboot 1.27
I installed stock 3.30.401 ruu
And now it shows locked
My cell is rooted and everything is working fine
I installed clockworkmod I don't have stock recovery
Can I install that mod for camera to improve its quality
And can I install any rom?

Yeah, you can install anything if you're S-Off but you might wanna check if you have super CID. Also if you want a fully unlocked bootloader install 3.32 universal firmware

Super Cid is 1111111 yea maybe more or less 1
And mid is PG5813000

Look in the dev section, there is a thread thats really hard to miss about universal firmware.
Your phone says LOCKED because you havent htcdev unlocked but you are S-OFF so you dont need to htcdev unlock and it is better that you dont because you keep your warrenty if your not. S-OFF is also better because it unlocks all partitions and not just the recovery partition

If I install stock latest firmware the S-off won't change? And I don't even have to root again?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk

Yeah you're always gonna be S-off. Root wont go away either, and most if not all roms these days are rooted.

Thanks everyone
I'm on 3.30.401 with sense 3.6
What's your battery timing? On stock?
I installed beats audio installer from play store by rockdev. Not sure if the music really improved.

Beats is just an EQ profile, download somthing like PowerAMP which is my personal favourite and has a user-definable custom EQ.
Others also say DSP manager is extremely good as well so that could be worth a try

Important warning

Do NOT accept the latest 2.3.4 OTA! It will still be S-OFF but it will say locked above, which means you can't flash Custom ROMS/ root/ whatever. Just a warning

On page 5 of ota 2.3.4 thread you can see the screen where it says locked. And now the hboot is 1.18.0000, instead of 1.17.00xx

EDIT: Interesting HBOOT now...it says *** LOCKED *** at the top of it
EDIT EDIT: HBOOT is now locked, cannot flash a new recovery - DO NOT FLASH IF YOU WANT TO S-OFF

Hboot-cid question

I'm rooted with s-off and had super cid but now I don't. I was wondering if that was possible now I can't flash radios and custom recoveries. Sooooo the question I have is how's was that possible I haven't done anything recently but flash the team win custom recovery and then back to clockwork that's it but know my hboot says locked at the top in pink
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
in order to flash the ICS rom you had to have updated your radio. when you do that it updates your bootloader to hboot 1.20 and that is a locked bootloader but thats fine. we dont need it unlocked. and also you can run supercid again with fastboot even on the new hboot version.
Thanks that make sense so it doesn't matter everything else is okay

[Q] difference between htcdev and revolutionaryf??

Hi guys, apologies in advance if this is a really stupid question but I really wanna know the answer...
What is the difference between what revolutionary does and what unlocking the bootloader with htcdev does?
I am wanting to install a custom rooted gingerbread ROM.
Thanks
Don't know if there are any technical difference, but i believe you have to register at htcdev.
I recomend revolutionary because you get permanent s-off and with htcdev ,it only unlocks some parts of it and you are still s-on plus your warranty gets voided.

Ah ok thanks... will use revolutionary then.
Just out of interest what are you not able to do when you still have s-on?

+1 Use revolutionary. S-OFF, ClockworkMod (CWM) & su can't go wrong with those.
There are also some slick ICS ROMs now, better battery life for me but they do require a Firmware update. If you go down this route, 3.12 F/W can also run GB ROMs. Just make sure you do a Nandroid backup before any ROM changes.

Where do I start...

Well I just got my sensation 4g and did sone researching.... I know its been out for awhile so I was wondering where do I start... Whats the most up to date way to root ny phone (assuming theres more than one way) and whats a good rom? (I like using sense lol).

G'day champ,
Welcome back, begin with the guides provided below.
1. S-off, unlock, recovery, root & SuperCID
[Guide] to Installing S-off, Unlocking, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on
2. Install the latest firmware, 3.32 is needed for the latest base.
[Firmware][Mar 30]User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24,3.30 & 3.32 Unlocked
3. Flash a ROM, Android Revolution HD(ARHD) is the most popular(for good reason)
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 6.5.5 | ICS | High Quality & Performance | 3.32.401.105
After all that, feel free to learn what you will, there's plenty to learn, it just requires reading, and problems, there's guides all over the Sensation forums, generally within the first couple of pages.
Thank you for all that. What is the firmware step for??

For what reasons exactly
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
You can root without doing supercid. Supercid is optional.
It allows you more flexibility though. Useful if you want to flash other areas/carriers rom. Personally I prefer to keep original cid.
Recently I couldn't receive ota update to ICS because I was supercid, then reverted to the original one and suddenly I received the Ota update notice.
It's up to you whether supercid or not and it's not a real concern because you can revert at anytime.
What is your current hboot version? Power off, pull battery, press & hold vol down and power to enter bootloader and read it off.
You have to check your hboot is supported by revolutionary- the tool to give you s-off.

And the OTA thing... Say i update my phone..will i lose root n such..
Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
Yes you will lose everything and bootloader will become 1.27 (which is unsupported by revolutionary) Unless you have S-OFF before the update that is.
As for SuperCID, Its optional but HIGHLY recommended, As said before, it allows you to flash any firmware from any region....
If you dont have it, You MUST make sure it matches your CID or it wont boot... It can also be tricky to find one for your region (depending where you are)
It only takes a second, And its permanent and reversible
When i switch from rom to rom... Do i superwipe then flash rom everytime??
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
You can do, but its not necessary, Have a look at the installation guide for the ROM your going to flash.... Usually if you are updating the same ROM wipe isnt needed..
If you are going to a different ROM altogether, A wipe is a MUST

Stock at bootanimation

I recently used htcdev, rooted and installed recovery. After this I tried to flash several roms but all stocked at the bootanimations.. what am I supposed to do? I'm running CWM recovery 4.0.1 - HTC Sensation XE - S-ON and hboot 1.29

Hmm I followed it and managed to install an aosp rom.. however I'd like to install ViperS and that didn't work. I noticed that ViperS had all these kernel things, does that mean I need s-off to install it?

Use 4EXT Recovery then enable smart flash.
And for S-OFF I would recommend it because it will make life a lot easier
