ROM manager if you are rooted...
Hi NYYFan325
ROM Manager will install my CWM image?
I know it has an older builtin version (3.0.2.4), but I would like to install the new 4.0.0.2
How would it do that? I can see a flash alternate recovery, but it is not picking up my image on the sdcard.
Is there a specific folder that it has to go into?
Thanks
Heeter

Someone smarter then me will have to chime in if I'm wrong but if you want the newest one (4.0.0.2) you'll have to use fastboot. Any reason your looking to avoid it?
I just like to waaaaay more simpler menus and wipe menus.
The confirmations are gone too, as well as all the "no" down the screen, with one "yes" in the middle.
Like the different color too.
Heeter
I meant why are you avoiding fastboot? Using it will get you 4.0.0.2 in the blink of an eye...
Fastboot refuses to work on my Windows7 machine. Even using the PDAnet drivers and Android SDK drivers, and everything in between.
Been trying to get fastboot to work for months, but just gave up on it. The are several of my posts in here concerning my fastboot issues.
It did work when I switched to Debian, but, because of work issues, I had to switch back to Windows.
Heeter
are you sure? i'm running win7 x64 and everything works just fine.
if you are rooted, you can put any cwm in your device, it's not easy, but can be done, the trick is that you need fastboot to root your device (you could search a exploit to achieve it without fastboot, but...)
Alright, so what you need to to is this:
1. Download the img file somewhere.
2. cd into the directory
3. fastboot erase recovery to erase the current recovery
4. fastboot flash recovery ____.img and voila!
Good luck!
-As NYYFan325 said, you need fastboot in order to do this quick
Oh yeah, make sure ur in the bootloader while doing all this

You can flash it through ROM Manager with a little tweaking.
Thanks Maximilian Mary,
That is exactly what I was looking for. I renamed it *.img.bak instead of *.img.real. Still worked like a charm, flashed the hotness, LOLOL.
As in previous posts, fastboot is not an option for me.
Thanks again,
Heeter
Put newest recovery on internal usb storage
Rename it recovery.img
Download flash_image gui by Joeykrim
Select recovery and browse to recovery.img

I actually purchased that application.
But It says it is only good NS4G, not my NS3G. Unless you can confirm it works on my 3G.
Thanks
Heeter
It works on yours also

fastboot doesn't work so your instructions are useless.

Ok problem - i tried flashing via terminal emulator and now when i try to reboot into CWM it stays on the Google Screen. any ideas guys?
i did it the exact same way it said on here, flashing via terminal, and i also renamed it to recovery.img

Never mind guys, got it working! after the via terminal, i just reflashed on Rom manager. Its ok now, i can get into CWM. Any idea why this would happen in the first place though? its odd.
you have to edit the official OTA zip file and remove it from there I'm working on it
I just unbricked my ns via odin
Now i want to root and flash other roms.
But the power button is broken (It makes me cannot pressing vol up/down to select in fastboot mode)
So, I cannot get into recovery to flash su.zip or flash cwm etc...
I would like to know any method to root and flash roms now.
Thanks
SOLVED :
1.using one-click rooting for GB
2.using rom manager flashing cwm and get into cwm

I guess it has to be rooted first?
let me change the question.
Could I root it via terminal instead of via fastboot/recovery?

Can u use terminal to flash a boot.img then reboot recovery and flash a ROM? Therefore bypassing the need to fastboot the boot.img after flashing?

Just download twrp it flashes the boot.IMG when u flash Rom automatically in recovery I moved from cwm
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Not sure, might be better to ask in the thread relating to the ROMs you're looking to flash. I know sometimes twrp doesn't flash boot.img correctly for some people too but it's worth a shot to try twrp.

This will very likely not work. You would need fastboot binary installed on the phone and hope that it can target itself... or a looped micro USB cable Look at doing this with dd maybe and you might need S-off. But easiest is hoping that youre lucky to have a phone that TWRP can flash boot.img to.

There is a good chance (according to my highly scientific calculations ) that dd-ing it from a terminal emu or from an adb shell will work if you are on hboot-1.09 or older.
