ROM manager if you are rooted...
Hi NYYFan325
ROM Manager will install my CWM image?
I know it has an older builtin version (3.0.2.4), but I would like to install the new 4.0.0.2
How would it do that? I can see a flash alternate recovery, but it is not picking up my image on the sdcard.
Is there a specific folder that it has to go into?
Thanks
Heeter

Someone smarter then me will have to chime in if I'm wrong but if you want the newest one (4.0.0.2) you'll have to use fastboot. Any reason your looking to avoid it?
I just like to waaaaay more simpler menus and wipe menus.
The confirmations are gone too, as well as all the "no" down the screen, with one "yes" in the middle.
Like the different color too.
Heeter
I meant why are you avoiding fastboot? Using it will get you 4.0.0.2 in the blink of an eye...
Fastboot refuses to work on my Windows7 machine. Even using the PDAnet drivers and Android SDK drivers, and everything in between.
Been trying to get fastboot to work for months, but just gave up on it. The are several of my posts in here concerning my fastboot issues.
It did work when I switched to Debian, but, because of work issues, I had to switch back to Windows.
Heeter
are you sure? i'm running win7 x64 and everything works just fine.
if you are rooted, you can put any cwm in your device, it's not easy, but can be done, the trick is that you need fastboot to root your device (you could search a exploit to achieve it without fastboot, but...)
Alright, so what you need to to is this:
1. Download the img file somewhere.
2. cd into the directory
3. fastboot erase recovery to erase the current recovery
4. fastboot flash recovery ____.img and voila!
Good luck!
-As NYYFan325 said, you need fastboot in order to do this quick

You can flash it through ROM Manager with a little tweaking.
Thanks Maximilian Mary,
That is exactly what I was looking for. I renamed it *.img.bak instead of *.img.real. Still worked like a charm, flashed the hotness, LOLOL.
As in previous posts, fastboot is not an option for me.
Thanks again,

1st. post in the correct section. This way you can get your answer quicker and you're not annoying everyone.
2nd. Find yourself a WINDOWS PC and install android SDK and all drivers for your phone to be recognizable. Then follow one of the posts in here to flash recovery.
You could also install ROM manager from the market and use it to flash recovery through it but its always good to have a proper SDK setup for this type of emergency.
This has happened to me before and I have fixed it by flashing the latest cwmr multiple times.
Try using a different USB cable if your com still doesn't recongize it.

Would flash image gui work well to flash twrp?
When i use rom manager it says successfully flashes rom but then i reboot and get the sane no boot or recovery img. I dont have access to a windows pc...
Can a mod please move this to the nexus help section?
As stated, reboot from and get rom Manager from market. Try reinstalling recovery or scroll down and there is an option to use older versions and flash an older version.

If I can get my Linux machine to recognize my phone I would gladly return to stock unrooted and start over.
Flash twice in rom manager. See if that changes anything. Don't reboot between just one after another. Also, in rom manager hit menu and clear download cache before you try flashing.

The only way I've been able to resolve it is to
1. Flash cwm 3.1.0.1 with fastboot
2. Go into recovery and flash cwm 5.0.2.0.
3. DO NOT update CWM when relaunching Rom Manager or like app.

I'm only familiar with ClockwordMod. I see on some ROM pages that you don't need to use the boot.img if you have TWRP recovery. What is it and where do I get it? Thanks.
It is team win recovery project . I believe you can be able to get online if you do a search . It is based on aosp recovery and has standard recovery options plus a few of their own options . Hope this helps and answers your questions. Just search team win recovery project and you can download from their site I believe.

What I really like about TWRP is that you could mount the sdcard; something you can't do with CWM.
Also some people reported that if your battery dies on you while on CWM, your phone might not charge at all and you will have a dead phone.

CWM for some reason can not write to certain partitions, boot.img is one.
The boot.img is in the ROM and TWRP will flash it.
In case you want to use CWM, just extract the boot.img from the ROM file you download. Put it where fastboot can see it (usually where fastboot.exe is).
Run command
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
After that is done boot into recovery and flash ROM

Hey Guys So i was able to successfully unload my bootloader and root my phone via 2.20 root temp method. Now i've run into a wall where I seem to be following the directions, but can't seem to get it to work.
So after my phone was unlocked etc after the whole token thingy... (Sorry this is my first time since 3-4 years ago that i have rooted.. Last phone was a Droid X so excuse my ignorance).... Anyhow so my phone got reset and all and booted back and everything was fine and working.. Now according to the thread in order to flash a ROM of my choice i need to install some sort of Recovery tool. The instructions say to install TWRP-2.3.1.0-evita.img. I have put the .img on the same folder c:android that i have created where i have the adb, fastboot files. I open up a command prompt window and run the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img and it says "waiting for device" and get's stuck there and nothing happens.
According to the post it is supposed to install it and restart my phone automatically, however nothing happens. I am afraid if i reboot my phone and try again that my temp root will go away and will have to redo-everything all over again. Additionally I have tried the market place method where you download "Goomanager" and install the twrp img via menu>openrecoveryscript and choose to download, however i get an error when attempting to download. Can someone point me in the right direction. And will i lose temp root if i reboot my phone?

I just downloaded superuser and busybox. Also i downloaded root checker and when i click on check root it says my phone is NOT PROPERLY ROOTER. Can this be because of how HTC ONE X gets temp rooted and this app doesn't work properly? How can i check for sure if i'm rooted? I mean i can get into TWRP recovery and everything with no issues. Thanks.
I believe that because you did not download superuser before reboot. I think you lost root. Might want to try again.

10. After unlocking the bootloader, you can flash a custom recovery partition via fastboot, boot into recovery mode, and use a recovery ADB shell or install from an update.zip to install Superuser and su (I do not provide support for custom recoveries, but this is a straightforward process that other people can help with).

I think this all has to happen before rebooting after the new root process. So CID, then flash recovery, load and flash superuser, then reboot. I'm not sure how others are getting it to stick. I'm rooted on 1.85 with both my HOX's

If you get that cannoct allocate xxx bytes, then you have to flash all the images manually. Extract the zip file which is in the same folder as flash-all.bat
Copy all the extracted images next to flash-all.bat
In cmd navigate to that folder where you have tha flash-all.bat and type the commands:

You don't have to lose recovery, just don't use the flash-all and don't flash the stock recovery. And even so, how hard is it to flash TWRP back on if you do lose it? It takes literally 10 seconds to do.

I guess I'll just use the nexus root and tool kit to install 5.1 and reinstall twrp. I'm surprised a proper flashable zip file isn't available yet.

Yeah, you really should learn how to use fastboot. It's nowhere near as difficult as some people seem to think it is, and if you are ever in a bind, fastboot is likely what you'll need to use to get out of it. It's Android 101 really- I think everyone who roots and mods their phone should learn fastboot before they do anything at all.
