advaced ace hack kit with 3.20.502.52 - HTC Inspire 4G

I'm using Inspire 4g.
It shipped with froyo and then I updated it to gingerbread. Now its software version is 2.47.502.7
If I update the latest rom , version number will be 3.20.502.52 .
when it is 3.20.502.52 ; Can I use the Advanced Ace Hack Kit to root my phone to use ICS or JB ?
Or , should I root my phone, then I can install all rooms for example :rooted stock rom, ICS rooms ?

maybe you can do some research, find and read what is worth....http://tau.shadowchild.nl
If you update your software then the Hack Kit won´t work as easily as it does with your current build version. I would just run the kit now, and then use the .exe file in the HTC site...you will have the new software but with an S-OFF hboot....that is the best of both worlds...:good:

Thank you for your answer.
I understood that, Firstly I will root my phone, after that I will install stock rom to my phone. So My phone will be able to run every rom ? I wont need to downgrade my version. Am I right ?
If Im right, another question I have. Can I install rom manually via htc sync on windows7 ?

The Hack Kit downgrades the firmware if your OS version is above 2.3.3...and yes, the HTC update is in their site in .exe file...just run it and done!
get it here: http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_inspire4g_att_RUU_3.20.502.52_US.exe

Mine was AAHK rooted. CWM installed. Running CM7.
I downloaded the .exe RUU from HTC's website.
Rebooted to recovery. Restored from nandroid backup of stock rom. (this step maybe not necessary)
Installed the RUU by running the .exe on my PC.
Now I can't get to CWM.
Bootloader shows "ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL".
When I select recovery from the bootloader screen, I get an image of a phone with a red triangle and exclamation point.
I removed the battery, reinserted, boot phone fine.
I'm a little confused. It appears I have S-OFF, but no recovery. Does that make sense? How do I get CWM working?

That last post was very informative

Since your still s off flash recovery through the options menu of aahk to get back custom recovery. The ruu flashed the locked recovery it needs to install.

[GUIDE][2.3.4 OFFICIAL HTC S-OFF ROOT] Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2-1.35.401.1_P2

THIS IS FOR UNBRANDED 401 PHONES ONLY! IT MIGHT WORK FOR OTHERS BUT I WOULD RATHER NOT TRY...
Update 2011/08/14
Added more information and details
Renamed thread into GUIDE
Using this guide will reset your device into a vanilla 2.3.4 HTC Sensation phone. Your SD-Card wont be touched and you will have S-OFF and root. This will lock your bootloader but that should not be a problem since you are still S-OFF and can flash whatever you want - except the bootloader. I tested these steps and i have a 2.3.4 401 Sensation with Locked HBOOT, S-OFF and root.
If you want S-OFF & ROOT on the latest HTC 2.3.4 ROM follow the steps:
1) Backup
2) Get S-OFF on 2.3.3 (Guide Thread)
3) Recover your phone with original 2.3.3 Update
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cc03797/n/RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.1_Radio_10.43a.900 7.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198179_signed.exe
4) Update to 2.3.4 via "Over The Air" (OTA) or using OpenRecovery (OR). I did not use the OR-Method but you can find a lot of information about here. I do not advertise any guides for the OR-method since i did not test them myself.
4) Execute step 2.1 to 2.6 from the Sensation Guide (Guide Thread)
5) Get root again: Sensation Guide 3.1 to 3.12 (Guide Thread)
Have fun!

How? Can some please explain step by step?
Thanks
anyone have a change log? google failed me for once in my life
The 2.3.4 update include an new hboot Version 1.18...
Are u sure that u can install cwm and root the phone again after applying the update?
I think u will be s-on again after the hboot get changed...
Everything I'm reading (the two other threads about this update) says the above method will NOT work. I don't think the OP even tried. Wait for a real dev to cook this up.

Oh boy Some of use knew this was gonna happen
do not flash this to a stock rooted rom - it will **** it up - wait for your favourite dev to update their rom
flashing this will give you the new locked htc bootloader and you will not be s-off anymore (even though it still says you are)
it's taken me nearly 3 hours to get back to normal

Hi all,
I've just done this update
Backup with Titanium
Reflash with 2.3.3 stock ROM (my Sensation was already S-Off)
OTA update to 2.3.4
ClockWork Recovery
Root
Restore with Titanium
Reboot and that's it
No OTA
I did exactly like shown in the first post, but i wont get the update ota. It sais that my phone is actually actual.
Could I have done something wrong?
Got the Sensation from T-mobile -> debrandet it like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
And used the RUU version from the first post.
Thanks
done as suggested - works fine for me!
I was off this weekend.
I posted this howto cause i did it with my phone. Whyever would i post a guide when it does not work?!

no - i did not try to.
I am pretty happy with my phone right now. Fast and long battery pack - replaced Sense with LP.
When testing the early (pre-soff) custom roms and test recoverys I had to flash stock RUUs a couple of times.
To get the phone back into a decent state I needed to pg58 flash eng&unsecured boot then root and fastboot recovery.
Can't for the life of me think why anyone would s-off their phone then install stock/ota for any reason (bar repair). It's like buying a track day race car, shouting "look what I've got" then pushing it around rather than thrashing it.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I removed the hboot from the OTA before flashing it so couldn't confirm for myself. There's been a lot of conflicting information about whether phones are still S-OFF after running the unmodified OTA but it appears that they are. I only ran the RUU then OTA so I could have a backup of a stock 1.45 system.img.

Root HTC Sensation 4.0.3

Hello everybody
I have HTC Sensation with original(no custom rom) ICS 4.0.3 and Hboot 1.27 version, i want to delete stock programs, which i don't need. I tried with revolutionary.io to root but it says that Hboot version is incompatible. So what can i do now? Is there any solution?
By the way, root and S-off is the same thing?

no root and soff are different
check for soff at hboot
deleting stock programs are difficult but with titanium backup you can freeze the system apps at least afaik
So what i must do to be able to delete stock programs? S-off or root?
You need s-off to delete apps as you are editing /system. However you can flash a custom rom which will install without all the junk apps. You need to unlock with HTC.dev then root. Be aware this has limitations, you cannot flash firmwares or use advanced fastboot commands. S-off is superior.
If you decide the flash, I recommend sharpy strpt cm9 - 8 apps when flashed!

You are already rooted. All the custom roms are rooted also supersu is the app which manage the root privilages so you are rooted.also I guess you have complete unlocked bootloader and soff
Which are required for custom Rom installation.
(Verify these on bootloader you'll have revolutionary in pink and soff when you boot into bpootloader)
For stable Rom I reccomend ARHD

Unfortunately you cant S-off your phone right now, only with HTCDev, but this will not give you a proper S-off. You will have to wait untill Juopunutbear is released, this will give you proper S-off and allow you to do everything with your phone.
1. Need to Unlock Bootloader at http://htcdev.com/
2. After the download is complete Unlock Bootloader Recoverymanager file on the new computer to run on the DC Recover
Note: The above must be on the phone setting -> application -> On the next Unkown Sources and Development -> USB Debugging pop up
After the download is complete Recoverymanager file to extract, open up the program, press start, select download recovery, select HTC Sensation, select CWM 5.0.2.0 (pyramid) and click download and flash
After the show flash inflate a screen that asks Yes, No, cancel. Make sure you select No, the phone will reboot into recovery. If you choose the other 2 will not install.
After running Recovery may be normal in nhe1 thats alright.
3. After installation is complete you use CWM file attached to root su: in recovery, select the file and select install from zip file Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip.
Is this method also valid for S-ON ?

The only error is that the file doesn't exist for S On & *locked* users, although I can't confirm if this because this is true I've only heard about this from a couple of users.
The rest of the tool is bug free.
If you want to install a custom ROM then you will have to do either one of the following:
Use HTC Dev Unlock & Stay S On.
S Off without voiding your warranty. and then continue with this tutorial from step 1
Now, for the second method, you can also use my tool.
And frankly, because you are starting from scratch, the tool will make everything easy. Here's the options that you need to select:
First, S Off.
then Install 4EXT Recovery
then Install Firmware
then download your ROM & Install by selecting install ZIP from recovery.

I was in your state as well. I was trying to see wait whether Revolutionary.io would produce a newer version for the HBOOT 1.27. But I got tired of waiting and just went on to use other methods. In the beginning, it's a bit confusing. It took me a while to understand everything. But once you follow the steps, everything should become more simple.
A problem that I encounter was install 4EXT Recovery. I couldn't install it at first. I just install Clockwork's Recovery and flashed the ROM I picked. Then I went ahead and downloaded the apk for the 4EXT Recovery and install it from there. It was troublesome in the beginning, but it was well worth it.
My suggestion is that you should do HTC Dev Unlock first. Then S-OFF.

downgrading from 3.20.502.52 to 2.47.502.7

I have looked but not found any specifics on my question. I installed 3.20.502.52 RUU when my phone was already S-off and rooted prior due some issues I was having (big mistake, I know). I re-installed a recovery no problem (still s-off) and have been using custom ROMs since. I am actually thinking about flashing RUU 2.47.502.7 which was the original update to Gingerbread from Froyo because I am looking into playing around some with UOT. My concern is whether I will actually be able to flash the ruu safely or not. Since my bootloader was updated to 2.0, will it be downgraded back to 0.85? If so will I be able to utilize AAHK again?

Sounds simple enough. So once I flash the older hboot and run the ruu, I should be able to use AAHK to obtain root? Flashing the hboot should leave my s-off intact.

You will remain s off. If you want to remain on that ruu with root by using the hack kit you would have to revert back to s on before running option 1 again. Hack kit option 1 won't run successfully if you are s off already. I would just re flash recovery and then find a rooted version of the stock ruu and flash via recovery or use a PD98IMG.

After going back to the old hboot and flashing a recovery, I recommend flashing ClearDroid 1.3.0, booting and then flashing 1.3.1 without wiping. It is a very stable, customized version of the Gingerbread Sense 2.1 rom.

Reverting to S-off
Gizmoe said:
You will remain s off. If you want to remain on that ruu with root by using the hack kit you would have to revert back to s on before running option 1 again. Hack kit option 1 won't run successfully if you are s off already. I would just re flash recovery and then find a rooted version of the stock ruu and flash via recovery or use a PD98IMG.

I know that AAHK has the option to revert back to stock unrooted and S-on. I tried it back when I first rooted just for the sake of doing so (was out of warranty anyway). If I flash the older bootloader, will AAHK revert everything to unrooted and s-on regardless of what ROM I am using? I am currently on CM7. If leaving CM7 in place and flashing the PD98IMG.zip then AAHK immediately after will work it will actually save time.
I am wanting to do some UOT from scratch on this so I can learn. I have upgraded my contract and got the AT&T Galaxy S3. Now I am taking the Inspire to use as a test phone and personal ROM development learning just because. I want to have fun with it since I am no longer relying on it as my daily phone.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. As long as you have the older hboot it should do the stock s on process. Then just run option 1. You should dabble in using dsixda kitchen if you want to start learning Rom cooking. You can take the rom.zip from the ruu and just root it and install busy box and create your own Rom.zip.

I will take a look at dsixda. Thank you for your feedback.

[Q] HTC Sensation upgrade from 2.3.4 to CM10

I have an HTC Sensation which I would like to upgrade to the latest version of CynaogenMod.
The phone currently runs a tailored and slightly mangled version of Android 2.3.3, created using a bunch of scripts that I found on here (which worked really well). However, that was years ago and those scripts are no longer maintained and I must move the phone to a new version of Android. CM10 would be my choice, to match that which I installed on my Nexus 10.
The phone is rooted, S-ON, ClockworkMod 4. My desktop PC runs Windows 7 Pro.
The Nexus 10 install was easy because firmware and software versions are already aligned. Not so with the Sensation. I am tech savvy but after having looked into upgrading the Sensation I just I don't know where to start.
I'm hoping to find someone who will instruct me through the whole process step by step and I am happy to pay for their time.
Thanks,
Matthew

You're on GB firmware while you need 3.32 or 3.33 firmware for CM10. For flashing firmware you need S-Off. Either you should S-Off your device or you can return to stock and then install ICS OTA update which will give your device latest firmware. And then you're good to go for CM10

Thank you for your reply. That route sounds like the least painful and I will attempt that first (on a spare Sensation).
So, returning to stock. Which GB ICS exe do I need?

You can find that info on RuU thread. I am not sure whether you can flash a RUU being S-on.

Hi man,
You don't need to use the RRU.
Go to ARHD thread and download the 3.32 update firmware and then flash the ROM of your taste

Would I need to be S-OFF for that?

Yes. Though S-off is largely unnecessary. Once you have the new firmware, than flashing CM while S-ON works fine with 4ext smartflash. I would upgrade via official ICS, Root, (might have to flash recovery first so you can flash a root package) flash 4ext recovery, and flash CM. Good luck!
an alternative way is:
S-OFF using this method
http://revolutionary.io/
upgrade firmware to ics from here(use 3.33 universal)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
follow the instructions to the letter
and before flashing check md5 sums(important)
flash a recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861 (only step 2)
then flash CM rom from recovery
done
note:before flashing the new rom make a nandroid of your current one just in case
