[TUT] How to Make and Flash CWM RECOVERY on any .MediaTek MTK65xx Device

A rooted mtk65xx phone
mtk65xx Drivers
MtkDroidTools (latest preferred)
Original Rom
MTK MobileUncle Tools app (PlayStore)

Hello, in this tutorial I will be showing you all how to make and flash cwm recovery in your mtk65xx phone. I will be using the CUBOT GT99 android. It's an mtk6589 and I got it from geekbuying.com.

Okay, so first you will need to extract the boot.img from the stock rom of your phone.
Next, connect the phone with USB DEBUGGING ON to your PC. Open MTKDroid tools.
The program will recognize your device and it should list your device details. In case it doesn’t, open the ADB terminal in the program and write "adb devices" without the caps. If PC doesn't recognize any device, then you need to install the mtk drivers.
Open the root, backup, recovery tab and click on "To choose the boot.img file". Leave all the rest as they are. Then click on Recovery and Boot and select the boot.img we got earlier from the phone's Stock Rom.
A prompt will appear and there choose YES. A few seconds later, you will see task complete. Go back to the MTKdroidTools folder and you will see a new folder called recovery. Inside, you have two files. Take the one with the word recovery and place it in the root of your phone’s SD card (not in any folder).
From here on we work with the phone.
Open MobileUncle Tools and go to the Recovery Update. You should see the recovery you placed in your SD card. Select it and click on OK. Finally, choose reboot to Recovery. If all was done correctly, your phone should boot into your new cwm recovery.
You can now backup your stock rom and flash custom roms, patches, kernels and others without fear of bricking!!

The recovery menu appears upside down else everything looking fine. My phone is a copy of I9500 with Ex chip.

But unfortunately cwm recovery part didn't worked for me... i got the two files, flashed using mobile uncle tools and sp flash tools method...
But i'm booting in stock recovery only..
Is it mandatory to connect the phone... ?? How that differs?
I have extracted stock rom using the tool.

yes its important to connect the phone so that the software tests the cwm recovery to see if its compatible with your boot.img...all you have to do is connect the phone and once it turns yellow (the box at the bottom) and lists your phone's details then select your boot.img and continue

3G not working with my Cubot G99

it is excellent and work fine
but i have problem with 3G
frequency of 3G in my country is 2100
i tried many times to turn on 3G but 3G not work at all

It's more simple if you :
- download your stock rom:
- Use SPFlashTools to Flash, this is the ORIGINAL tool, and i can assure you its saffer than this tool.
If you damage the bootloader with this tool, your phone is paper weight ...

you should know that the cubot gt99 is a dual sim and like most chinese dual sim phones...only sim one is able to have 3G while the other sim(sim 2) EDGE. check if you have placed your sim card in the correct slot(slot 1). also check if you have the correct internet settings for your provider.
finally, you can install the application mtk mobile unlce tools from play store and then access engineer mode(MTK) choose Telephony and then BandMode..here you can check to see what bands are supported by the cubot gt99 under sim1 and sim2...

Ahhh. .It worked on my Micromax A116.:good::good::good:.
Have to check on Auxus Nuclea N1..
But how to get the latest version of CWM??
I got CWM v5.5.0.4..

good to hear that....i also have v5.5.0.4 i think that a mtk droid tools may be updated later on but for now it is still patching it to v5.5.0.4

yes there are dual sim
first one W+G and second one only GSM

okay so according to your pics..your sim card is placed in the SIM 2 slot..try putting it IN THE OTHER SLOT...according to mine, when network bars are blue( SIM 2) - EDGE and when network bars are green ( SIM1) - 3G/HSPDA

i put my sim at left slot W+G
i tried before to change sim position but no different for color of network bars always blue
i can change color of network bar manually to green,orange and blue

okay...check your network mode..maybe its on 2G instead on 3G should be here...Wireless and Networks> Mobile Networks> 3G service> choose Network Mode and tick WCDMA only
also what is written under Mobile Network Type in SIM status? Settings> About phone >SIM status

am not sure there is a problem...from the pics, your network is defintely on 3G..the network type is HSPA which is 3G+....are you able to browse on EDGE with your current settings?

i can't browse on EDGE only on WIFI
i had before Cubot GT99 Sony Ericsson Neo was worked with 3G without any problems.

then it is simple...you dont have your internet settings which are provided by your service provider...You can check to see if you have them under Mobile Networks >> Access Point Names>>here...Did you find anything here? if not, contact your service provider to send you the settings or you can input them yourself if you know them...

Help needed for CDMA data service (downgrading from 4.4.2 to lower version)

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 CDMA Verizon & GSM phone. Originally it was on android 4.1.2 and working fine for both CDMA and GSM (one at a time). CDMA EVDO Rev A data service was working fine.
I am using this phone in Nepal (not in USA). It was carrier unlocked for both CDMA & GSM when I purchased from Amazon. (so, I guess, Originally it may had some customized firmware/ROM for International use, I don’t have much idea).
I was asked for firmware upgrade every time when I run Samsung Kies. One day I clicked to upgrade the firmware. The upgrade was over successfully. But the new android version I found on my phone was 4.4.2.
In this version /new upgrade, I was unable to use CDMA data (EVDO-rev A). So I wanted to reverse back to old version. I search the process in Google and tried to load firmware with the help of Odin3 using this file:- “I535VRBMF1_I535VZWBMF1_VZW.zip”, but it was not successful. Result: Fail(Auth)
Then I loaded firmware for 4.4.2 using Odin3.09 (AP: “I535VRUDNE1_I535VZWDNE1_I535VRUDNE1_HOME.tar.md5”) and now the phone is working.
• If I use GSM SIM I can make call and use HSPA data service as well by adding new APN.
• If I use CDMA RUIM I can make call, BUT DATA SEVRICE using CDMA EVDO Rev A is NOT WORKING!! (I can not save APN in this case).
Now my issue is how to make CDMA EVDO data service working in my phone, because my basic requirement is to use this phone for CDMA service (voice + data).
I can edit the APN but when I click “Save”, nothing was saved. So I can not select APN for my carrier. I tried using APN Manager Pro too, here I can enter & enable the APN, but did not work. The phone is not able to dial the data access code #777 (verified from CDMA service provider side trace).
Can someone help me what I should do to make my phone working for CDMA data. My phone is rooted.
I guess it may work for CDMA data if I downgrade it to 4.3 or 4.1.2,
Can I do that. If so what are the procedures / steps. Any help in this regard would be highly appreciable.

I think your problem is the region is not set Nepal...I installed dark jb rom in my phone and data was gone since then. Then I manually downloaded stock firmware and flashed through odin but still data wasnt working,nd while in recovery mode i saw region INS ie India. then something came in my mind and.. .I changed it to NPL and now i can use data in only sim 1 only not in both sims. So i also may need some help.
For you *#272*IMEI# . Use your phones IMEI number there (*#06#) . Select NPL region.
NOTE: It will hard format your phone installing required carrier apps, aps, bla bla and hope work on your phone

I found that the hidden menu (& hence secret code dialing) was disabled in my phone. Following guides from Google search I enabled it. Now codes likes "*#06#",*#1111#", "*#0228#" etc are working, but "*#272*IMEI#" is not working. Any idea, why it is not working?

Well, it looks to me as though you've locked your bootloader and are now stuck on 4.4.2. For some reason, Verizon forces Samsung to lock their bootloaders, which means we (the consumers) cannot install "custom" firmware on our devices (or downgrade).

Once you're on 4.4.2 NE1 your stuck with it. No downgrade possible at least not without a Jtag service

Help Plz searching for service problem

My nexus 5 says searching for signal and I can't make calls or use mobile data etc... I just flashed pa yesterday so of course I'm rooted and have unlocked bootloader , I'm using dalvik tell me if you need more information

My nexus Sim is Vodafone and I have a tablet that supports calling with Etisalate Sim, I switched the Sims and the Vodafone one works perfectly on the tablet but the Etisalate don't work on the mobile and when I returned them back the Vodafone don't work again and the Etisalate works again so the problem is with the phone

Try flashing stock. If it's the same, it's hardware. Sim card, device or something. Or its carrier related issue.

Sounds like the radio is set to LTE only mode.

Enable Wifi Calling on rooted G920F / 5.1.1 on T-Mobile network

Hi,
I have a rooted (UniKernel + TWRP) on a stock 5.1.1 rom.
I bought this phone in order to have an international version but I'm living in the US with a T-Mobile SIM card.
I rooted this phone to try to enable Wifi calling on my G920F.
I followed this guide to add the Wifi Calling option to the Phone settings --> Enabling Hidden Features
( I added the two lines in others.xml )
This is based on EE network Wifi calling capabilities.
After restarting I have the option, turned it on but nothing worked.
Apparently I am missing another option to choose the wifi calling mode according to T-Mobile support :

Wi-Fi Preferred
Cellular Network Preferred
Never use Cellular Network

I don't have the Wifi Calling app installed also. Does someone have an APK ?
Did anyone make it work ? What settings did you use ?
Also if someone has a T-Mobile version, it is possible to get the content of Others.xml in order to compare.

S6 Edge At&t unlocked No update and LTE signal

Sir I purchased a new unlocked S6 Edge ( 925A) at&t device from abroad to use in india.
The guy told it's fully unlocked and it support any sim card. Buy when I checked with Indian Sims I am getting only 2g signals .. I am not getting 3G and 4g signals..
When I checked for network selection mode settings it's missing in the settings.
No software OTA update is available. . I think it's also disabled.. when I checked the device status it is in "custom"..
So if I flash a stock ROM with Odin will it lock again ?
Do I need to unlock it again.. ??

First check the model from bootloader, if its actually a att variant then you can flash a stock rom too make it work as normal, but if its some other variant then get back to this thread again.

Its surely an at&t Variant of Samsung Galaxy S6 EDGE.. its model number is 925A.. which is only available for ATT..
Its baseband version is G925AUCU1AOCE
I purchased this phone as fully unlocked from UAE but in india when i start to use it i came to know that its not taking 3G and 4G signals .. but 2g Signal and Data services are working fine..
I got the phone in rooted condition without any Boot animation of At&t. Since its rooted i am not getting any official updates.
I am also facing many software bugs.. from different apps..
So really want to flash the phone with a new stock rom for using it..
I have some doubts about it please clear it..
1) if i flash it with an official att stock rom will it lock again for att network ?
2) can i remove the att boot animation after flashing with stock rom ?

Providers in India use bands 3, 40, and 41 for LTE. The AT&T S6 Edge is only compatible with band 3.
I doubt you'd be able to flash a different ROM, and even if you could, you still wouldn't have compatibility with bands 40 or 41.

Firstly Thanks for your reply.. i know that S6 Edge at&t only support Band 3 LTE cuz it's a FDD LTE supported device.. in my country here providers are using both TDD & FDD LTE bands for LTE..
In my region "Kerala" at presently all the providers are using Band 3 which is compatible will my phone. But i am not receiving any LTE and 3G signals..
My friends have different unlocked phones from T-Mobile they are not facing any problem..
I am still doubt the flashing ROM.. i am going to flash the stock rom for at&t.. it's the only official rom available for my device.

It could be an APN issue. Make sure the settings are the same as your friends are using. Beyond that, I have no idea.

Nothing Wrong with the APN.. cuz i am using 2G data without any problems.
We have same APN for all 2G ,3G & 4G..
I think its the problem with my software..
I can't switch between LTE/WCDMA/2G because that network mode selection option is disabled or not available..
I am compelled to flash a new Rom..
I don't have any other options.
I own a good phone but i can't use it . Really sad about it..

I have my s6 Edge in Fully unlocked condition with Root Access also..i purchased it as unlocked from Dubai. But i cant find any Network Selection mode in my settings. Itz a ATT variant with model number 925A. The device is not taking 4G signals in india. Also there is no Network selection option in the settings to toggle between 3g & 4G..
Please help me?
