Quick question about Titanium Backup - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey everyone,
Real quick question in regards to TB. I haven't actually used it for awhile and had many updates since I have last used it on my Incredible (usually did Nandroids to backup toward the end there). I've since moved to this phone and rooted last night. I am trying to use TB again but as I hit menu I don't get the familiar 'batch' backup and restore options. I have the pro key and left that alone but un-installed and re-installed the actual app with current version 5.5.0.1. Same thing.
The wiki the dev site sends me to still indicates I should be getting the backup and restore option menu. All I have is a 'backup to XML' on the Samsung menu (not the UI that I am used to).
I am a bit confused here. Any help would be appreciated.
Thnanks

There should be a checkbox in the upper right corner that will get you to the batch options

[Q] Titanium Backup Restore Issue

(First off, this is my first post so my apologies if I've done anything improper here)
Ok, so there are a lot of posts about Titanium Backup restore issues but I haven't quite been able to fix my problem. I'm not trying batch restores or anything complicated like that, and the advice I've seen in the past and on the Titanium Backup FAQs doesn't work. Here's my problem:
Yesterday I backed up then uninstalled "Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0" but then realized that my phone (HTC Incredible) uses that to link my contacts with their Facebook profiles (for pictures, birthday notifications, etc.). So today I went to restore it and Titanium Backup just hangs (there is a spinning wheel on the left and it says "Restoring App: 'Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0'") It does this whether I try restoring just the app or app+data.
I have root and updated busybox from the "Problems" button in the app. Many people on here have said to go to "Troubleshooting settings" and change the "App processing mode" but when I go there that option is greyed out. I'm sure this would work (it has for others it seems), but I don;t know what to do since it is greyed out.
I thought about reinstalling Titanium Backup, but I don't want to lose my data to restore from. I don't know how that works.
Anyone know what to do?
UPDATE: Well I don't think reinstalling would help, since an update just came through the market. I figure an update would've fixed anything that a reinstall would have. Also, to add a little more information on the problem, I was able to restore "Adobe Reader 9.0.1" but not able to restore "Footprints 1.10" (another HTC built-in app)
I have the same problem on my HTC Desire.
After installing the latest CyanogenMod, I wanted to return a couple of the HTC-supplied apps. Titanium Backup gets superuser permissions and seems happy, but then freezes at 0% restore. The application processing option in preferences is always greyed out.
Hi guys, one thing that I learned while migrating to Cyanogenmod is that restoring HTC apps will really hurt stability and possibly lead to bootlooping, as there is no HTC sense framework for their apps to work correctly. AFAIK, there is no way around that. I learned the hard way that restoring all apps and data just will not work between AOSP roms and Sense roms. I'm sorry I can't offer more help on it, but you'll need to pick and choose your apps and data and make sure you don't bring Sense/HTC stuff into Cyanogenmod. I know, it's frustrating! Good luck guys!

We'll my problem is slightly different because I'm still using sense. I didn't load any new roms. I removed it and then tried to restore the next day without making any other changes. So why won't my apps restore?

what did you remove? was it a system app or something you installed from the market? system apps, when "removed" even when backed up, don't reinstall from my experience. I never had any problem reinstalling any user apps that were properly backed up though.
I'm wondering if this is something to do with HTC's "S on" extra security.
Need to read up on this — anyone have a good resource about it? It seems a bit more obscure than just rooting, with some unreliable-looking websites about it. And I'm coming at this as a total n00b
But the system folder does indeed seem to have some kind of extra write-protection going on, even when accessing it as root.
I have a G2X and I have also learned the hard way that Titanium will not restore system apps. So the problem your having has nothing to do with Sence. If you search the for forums hard enough there is info on the topic

So... If I do a factory reset on my phone then, will all be fixed? Or does uninstalling it remove it from wherever the factory reset would pull from?
I'll probably need to root it again after, but I just want that "Facebook for HTC Sense" app back so my contacts link with their facebook profiles for continually updating phone numbers, profile pictures, etc.

Problem Solved
I flashed Liberation Enhanced v1.00 yesterday and everything is fixed. Liberation does all that I wanted to do in the first place: have Sense without the bloatware. It was my first time flashing a new ROM and I'm happy to say it went very well
(Now once I get enough posts in, I can add it to my signature like everyone on here seems to like to do)
guess you fixed the issue, but dealing with Titanium Backup, i sometimes have it hanging when i freeze/unfreeze or sometimes it hangs/freezes when backing up/restoring. in the settings there's like some different restoration methods it lets you choose (Direct, Indirect, and something else), but switching it to Indirect Method fixed the issue for me, so just incase someone else runs into a similar problem. im on a SGS4G.

I think what you're talking about may be part of the "App processing mode" option that I said was greyed out for some reason on my phone.

[Q] How do you go about setting your phone up after new ROM?

It seems like every time I set up a new ROM, it takes me forever to get everything set back up and I always miss something, contacts are missing, apps go all wonky... I used to backup all my apps and data, but a lot of the time the new ROM will download many of the apps I had, so when I restore the backup of my Apps, it screws everything all up.
So I guess my questions is... Whats the most sufficient, easiest, most thorough way of restoring all apps and whatnot on a new ROM?
For the basics use the market app to backup your sms to google cant remember what its called, backup your contacts to google (highly recommend) that way you will never loose them.
For apps i would only ever backup downloaded apps with titanium backup pro. System apps can be a pain in the ass to restore.
Other than that everything else is fairly easy...

Hmm... Ive never gone about backing up SYSTEM apps, but like paid apps, that Ive bought and backed up, seem to get all jacked when I restore or reinstall them. Ive tried a few different methods of restoring my system and never get it to go smoothly. Didnt know if there was an easier way. Thanks for the info!
You might want to upon first boot of the new ROM, bypass initial setup with the tap corners trick, restore apps with Titanium, then resume the setup process. Market will see your apps as already having been installed and not bugger everything up.
Good idea! Hadnt thought of that. Will try with my next rom. Thanks! Anymore tips out there?
First thing I thought of was nandroid backup using clockworkmod on a rooted device. I have restored my phone countless times and everything restores exactly how it was.
sometime i got errors while restoring with CWM..
Titanium is still the recommended.
When I first started out, I actually had to make a list and check it off. Eventually, I found some apps that would cover those items (Titanium, etc), but still even with that I have to manually go in and do a few settings. MIUI ROMS have a backup program (I used MIUI on my HD2) and it seemed to do a decent job.
I usually keep a current back up of all apps from market(not system apps) made from my backup pro. Everything else gets a fresh start.
When I switch android versions ei, from gingerbread to ics, nothing gets restored, everything is a fresh install from market.

Was it through CWM rom manager or manual recovery mode? I mean did you install a kernel that installed cwm or did you install rom manager? After a couple weeks walking around blind I figured out that flashing the right kernel gets cwm to work without problems.
Restoring system settings is a big no no. It is just asking for trouble as with each update the source code is changed and then you are restoring outdated settings that may or may not be there.
TIBU is still the main app restore program. As for restoring settings that is never advices. Well unless you like troubleshooting random errors lol
Thanks for ALL the replies! Some stuff I hadnt thought of in here, and some stuff to try. If anyone else has any more info, please feel free to share. I have heard that restoring settings is asking for trouble, so luckily Im not too picky about those. I really only change the haptic feedback and stuff off the bat, anyway. It also sucks losing all my WiFi networks and having to have all my friends dig up their network passwords.
Anyway, gonna try out some of this stuff today as Im sick of the ROM I just flashed. Still waiting on MIUI getting that MMS workin

I concur, system restores after updates, different roms etc are a nightmare lol. It might be a pain in the a$$ but i ALWAYS start afresh after each flash and never use the same data image lol

[Q] Helium Questions

Hi guys, I've only started using Helium recently, I'd love to backup a few apps regularly, every night but... I've set a schedule with my selected apps. It tells me most mornings that it's done it, but when I check -
a) Nexus 5 (which says last used 8th Nov) it seems to hang retrieving the apps backed up. On the 9th I had to wipe my device. How do I re-register it?
b) When I look at Google Drive (the selected method) it has most apps dated the 10th Nov. Will it check to see if the file is different and only change it if it is? Otherwise I think it's lying to me when it's says it's back them up

I dont think I have ever had the scheduled backups feature working correctly.
Oh dear, lol.
Odd that there's no kind of support forum, or any decent instructions/explanations that I can see. Even just a decent FAQ would be nice...

Even though i realize this thread is a bit old, i have also recently been started using helium (the premium version because i need scheduled backups).
I also wondered why such an important app and developer didn't set up an official forum for it or, at least, an official thread here on xda. Such a thread would be usefull for support request and other stuff.
By the way ... do you still use Helium? If so ... how does it perform now? Maybe, after 2 years of updates it behaves better?
Don't think I've used it in a long time....

Can i ask you why?
Did you finally got root and so switched to Titanium Backup?
There are now only 3 or 4 apps I need to transfer data. Each of these have their own backup which I then upload to OneDrive and back down onto the new device.

[Q] - Restore older copy of System App to newer phone

Good day XDA Forum!
I've been a long time stalker (through Google results, mostly) but I come to you today with a targeted question that I haven't found the answer to anywhere else (yes, I searched the forum along with a fair amount of time Googling).
In short, I recently purchased the Galaxy S5 (previous phone, S3); for what it's worth, I'm with Verizon. I've rooted it and am running the AllianceRom.
In just a few days of using it, I noticed (in my opinion) how horrendous the stock camera app is - there's no macro mode, no scenes (firework/sunset/snow/etc), and worse, no way to tweak shutter speed or white balance (to attempt to make up for no scene modes). I tried a half dozen apps from the Play Store, but they're ad-ridden and still lacking functionality.
The Task:
What I'd like to do, is restore the camera app from my S3 (Android camera version 1.5) to my S5 (version 3.0). I backed it up on the S3 using Titanium Backup, copied the zipped files to the S5, and tried to restore with Titanium. This lead me to what I'll call the "native" application installation screen (Do you want to install this app: Camera?). I hit install...and it just said "install failed". I've found many posts about going in the other direction (putting the S5 camera on S3/S4; why folks would want to, I have no idea) but this didn't lead me to reverse engineering the process in...well, reverse
Is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Please say, "Yes, here's what you do!"
Many thanks in advance,
-Snake

[Completed] Restoring from the Play Store, how do I make it work?

Hi all,
I just have a general question about the PLay Store and thought maybe someone here might have a suggestion. When flashing a new ROM or resetting to factory defaults, I get one of three behaviors when logging in to Google:
1) Nothing, it logs me in and shows every app I have ever installed on any device as "Available".
2) A bunch of random stuff starts installing, most of it what I want, but a bunch I haven't had on my device in weeks sometimes. This can be 5 apps or 50, no pattern that I can figure out.
3) I get this nifty screen that lets me pick a device backup, even for other devices. It not only also lets me pick a backup date but ALSO lets me go in and further pick and choose which apps on the list that I want to restore.
#3 is what I'm looking for. I want to restore from the Play Store, not a Titanium Backup file or anything, but I can't make this consistent at all, does anyone have any luck with the Play Store being consistent? It does appear that #3 is a Lolipop feature, at least in that particular format, but once again, no consistency.
Currently the device in question is my Asus Tf700t, but I've come across this on multiple devices. I just installed Zombi Pop 5.1 RC as my ROM, but I've also had it be just as random in other ROMs. I also tell it to back up my data on install, and just double checked that it was marked as such in my settings.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it just drives me nuts to have this supposed auto backup that never works the same way twice in a row. Apologies also if I put this on the wrong board, but this seemed appropriate.
