Just tried to use my Dre Beats (Lebron James) ear buds for phone use ... eh, its a no go. I have the studios as well but I have not tried them yet. Anyone else having this issue not being able to use Dre Beats for telephone calls?

its not compatible with the GS3 so you have to find the apk and sideload it
pm beanstown he has it preloaded in his custom stock rom...
Oh I'm not rooted yet so no point... I was hoping that it would help worth the buttons on ibeats but I don't think that will. Honestly, coming from the rebound which had official beats audio I found it kind of pointless and most of my romsn it wasn't even working in

Strange since the phone comes with a wired headset so the support must be there. I assume the earbuds have a mic? I just tried my Sony earbuds and they seem to work fine. My guess is that it's something with the Beats that is causing the issue.
And since there are few to no other status symbol goods that spark things up as much as beats....

I am having a problem with the control button on my headphones. I have verified that the headphones are still working on my nexus s. I have tried using the headphone control app to no avail. Basically it registers about one out of thirty button presses. Can anyone else replicate these results? I need to figure out if I have a bad unit, or if this is an issue with everyone's phone. So today I was skiing and music kept pausing and as usual the button on my headphone wire was ineffective. When I pulled my phone out to restart playback voice dialer was always open. I froze voice dialer and then it would just pause. Basically I need someone with a g2x and headphones with a button to control playback to test it for me so I know if I have a defective device. If it's software I'll wait for gingerbread or cm7, if it's hardware I'll have to exchange. I'm using spotify, but it behaves the same in the stock player. Thanks.

I also would like to know if anyone knows if the 3.5mm jack is configured differently than other phones (n1). I know different manufactures use different configurations, but I have no idea what is used in the g2x. I called lg and they just said it's a 3.5mm jack. No further information was available to them. Ugh. This is making me crazy.

Here's a bizarre solution. Pick-up the HP Bluetooth Pendant. It allows you to use any wired headphones via Bluetooth. There's two components - a 3.5MM base station to plug in to devices that aren't Bluetooth capable and a clip-on receiver to plug in the wired headset. You only need the latter. It comes with a pair of wired headphones but they're crap. If you're using them for skiing or outdoor activities it's kind of a clean solution so that you're not physically connected to the phone. The volume, stop/play, and forward/reverse on the receiver work on the G2X, I checked. Here's a link to a store that still has them (they're discontinued). You might find them on eBay too.

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem I have with a bluetooth solution is the fact that it's something else I have to charge. Additionally, I had a pretty bad experience with the motorola bluetooth headphones. The reception was terrible. The phone had to be about six inches away from the headphones for it to work.

I totally get the having to charge another device thing. I use it with my Shure 530's and the reception's great from up to ten feet away. It's just a receiver so the quality of the headset will determine sound reproduction.
Well, other people having the problem gives me hope that it's software. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I could Play/Pause easily but nothing else worked. I sold my Nexus One before I could try them on the G2x (those worked flawlessly on the N1 vs the Sonys).
While I don't have a big need for headphones, I would like to figure out what works or perhaps getting software to recognize the correct signals from the jack.
I think that I'll need to find a pair if headphones with a compatible pinout, or some kind of adapter. I have been looking for both with no success. Why can't they standardize these things?

SOL Republic AMPS HD
Ok got them in. The build is nice, very comparable to the iBeats that I have that are taken from a HTC Rezound. The isolation is on par with the beats and the SOL Republic Amps HD has 4 different ear buds to try out. More choices for a better fit.
With my excitement, I plugged these badboys in and opened up google music run a few tracks off of it and to my chagrin, the left ear was distorted! I was like all heck..now I gotta do a warranty return. I called Sol Republic up and told them my situation. They sent me an email on warranty return details. I then took a step back and try to plug the SOL AMPS HD back in and the left side had no issues anymore. Did it need to warm up? Who knows, the driver works.
Next, the fitment, with the supplied earbuds, it's really hard not to find a fit. And if you register with Sol Republic they will supply you with free earbuds for life. Cool thing to know... Also the pouch is neat too, kinda like a deflated thin kickball but the case works and has a cool to link to stuff like bags or a belt loop lol...
Ok, now down to the nitty gritty...the sound. How do these sound? GREAT. They are not for the BASS heads but more like the rounded sounds like Vmoda. They handle bass well, but that is not what the SOL Amps HDs are meant for. They are meant for pretty much a clear reproduction and are forgiving whereas you have to keep in mind you are listening to mp3. But comparing it to my Rezound iBeats, which are indeed top heavy on the bass compared to the SOL Amps HD that are not. But don't get me wrong, you max out the volume and you can still hear the tracks pretty damn clear.
As for the three button functionality, keep in mind the box indicates that the AMPS HD are for iphones and ipods. But in using them in calling the mic works from what I can tell when I call into tmobile to get my minutes and such. BUT only the middle button works for our phones. Pair the headphones with the jays headset app from the market (free) and you can use the middle button for other things than just call and hang up the phone. With the app, you can adust the volume and actually skip tracks as well. So the other buttons are not missed. Admittingly the center button does get kind of annoying, compared to a dedicated volume button. But I don't mind it.
Bottom line would I recommend this? Yes for an alternative to the heavy bass headphones in the market today. I have my go-to over the ear headphones, the v-moda crossfades lps and they are a dream to listen to. Clear as day and not heavy in the bass, much like these SOL Amps HDs. I have to preface the recommendation with that I did NOT pay full retail (99usd) in like best buy or the like. So if you can get it cheaper than retail, it's worth every penny.
Anyway, here are pics....questions anyone?
EDIT: Upon my initial use of the AMPS HD, I did contact Sol Republic on the issue and they had been more than accommodating in getting my issue resolved. KUDOS to them and their awesome service, email communication-wise and phone-wise. Yes I did call them .

I installed V+ this morning & then did the mod to allow it to work with PowerAmp.
It works awesome with PA & made my ringtone louder, I haven't had a chance to try anything else (I'm an IT admin & I'm so busy at work that I'm going crazy)
---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:32 PM ----------
It definitely works in PA, it damn near deafened me the first time I turned on PA with my V-Moda Crossfade LP2's & forgot to turn down the volume first.........
It also made my texting tones/ring tones etc substantially louder which is important to me as we have a lot of ambient noise in some spots where I work & I have trouble hearing the alerts when the phone in in my pants pocket.
Can you explain what mod you have to do to get V+ to work with PA? And by the way, what is Power Amp, if it's another app to make volume louder, then why do you need V+? Could you give a step-by-step desciption of the mod you're speaking of?
Thank you

Poweramp is a very amazing music player. Best I have ever used. Check it out on the market you can get a free trial on it.
Volume + and poweramp's audio processor fight, so there is a setting in Pweramp that you have to disable to make them work together.

Yeah, but I'm talking without any audio enhancement apps.
I'm not sure about audio quality, but I've found that audio volume is higher on Sense.

My guess is that, in order to emphasize the effect of beats, sense purposely made the "off" frequency response somewhat of an inverted v, opposite of the dynamic response of beats. This may make bass and highs less pronounced than mids, so that when you turn on beats equalizer, the increase in bass and highs make you go "wow". Doesn't wow me though...

This may make bass and highs less pronounced than mids, so that when you turn on beats equalizer, the increase in bass and highs make you go "wow". Doesn't wow me though...

Damn, that's what I was hoping not to here. I'm a bit of an audiophile but I kinda need to have good battery life going on a trip. Anyone here know of a way to totally remove the files from the phone?

To give a further explanation, here's a video from MKBHD that explains how Beats audio works.

Yup I watched that video... was hoping it only applied to PCs It is a great video for anyone that hasn't seen it.
So what I've learned here today... Beats Audio sucks and you can't get rid of it unless you flash another ROM. This is total BS, HTC. I'm never buying another HTC phone as long as the have Beats Audio. It toally ruins 95% of music (even rap, which I listen to)
What about using something like Poweramp which has built in equalizer?

Problem is I use Spotify :/. Flashing an audio mod helps a bit, but still doesn't sound as good (IMO) as pure unmolested sound.
Lol.. unmolested.. very well put

What does listening to Michael Jackson with beats audio sound like?

Hmmm... So in /system/lib/ it seems that the beatscorehtc.so file is the main thing with beats in it (already swapped out the /system/lib/soundfx files with AC!D audio mod) but if you try to remove that file, there's no audio throughout the entire system. Damn I wish I was a dev.

I don't know what kind of battery life you need but this is on latest cm10.1 with 3.4 kernel. 1st charge. And I should mention that I used Bluetooth headphones while streaming tunein for at least 2 hours.

Dang that's pretty good considering much of that was Bluetooth streaming. That would normally be good enough for me, but going on a trip in a week and I decided might as well let the ROM get settled in. On Dec 31-Jan 1 I got this battery life with RebelROM. It was bloody amazing.

Yeah that is crazy good. Lemme download rebel. I'm no crazy awesome dev like imagio but maybe I can help.
*edit* I think beats is rooted pretty deep within sense. I don't think there's any way to remove it.

Yeah that's what I thought. If I leave it off work AC!D audio mod then it's about 85% of the way there so I guess that'll have to do.
