Not bricked but not working. - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK all...so I am new here and was trying to get JB to work on my tablet. I thought I had done the needed research but went wrong somewhere I guess. I tried to follow steps on a site I found from AndroidAuthority dot com (not sure if I am able to post the entire link or no?). I was trying to root and install ClockworkMod Recovery but I guess either something went wrong or I messed something up. From what I have been reading I guess I have not bricked my device since it still tries to load. It currently loops with the Samsung screen. I can still enter the download mode and recovery mode but not sure what I should try next. I tried via Odin again with no luck. Out of the box I was running 4.0.3 but did the OTA update to 4.0.4. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks from a newbie!

Also I used espresso_recovery.tar.md5 as the recovery image if that helps at all. Thanks again.

Followed the steps from another site. Will follow these later today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788625
I guess since I can still use Odin I should be all set. Sorry if this was in the wrong section.

You can use heimdale too. Ive had better luck using that for my phone, never tried my tabley but it should work.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app

I haven't tried heimdale yet cause I do not want to add more gas to the flames. But I tried the other link I posted and still no luck. Also tried a different SD card to be on the safe side but no luck. Any ideas on what I should do next? Or any other info I can provide that might help?

Keep on trying... it should work sooner or later. Have the samsung drivers? If not install kies. Try other usb ports too.
Sent either from my p113 (gtab 2 7.0) or i997 (Infuse)

Should I keep on with the same procedure or you mean keep letting it boot in a cycle?

I used this with 4.0.4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
i would suggest you follow from the beginning.
install samsung drivers and kies and odin. run odin as adminstrator.
pay close attention to the mention of the post #325 in the instruction as it what helps you 4.0.4 root process. its difference from 4.0.3.
also if you are on jb. you need to run cwm 6.0 not 5.0 make sure youre uploading the right file into odin.
---------- Post added at 02:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:05 PM ----------
btw youre not bricked don't stress, youll sort it out soon enough

Followed all the steps in section B and I am still stuck in a boot loop. Any idea?

Then use the restore to stock procedure. But before you do, tell me: what step did you boot loop on?

Haven't been able to work on this again. I will try and get some time and get back to you. Thanks again for the help.

Don't use ClockWorkmod, it's not designed specifically for Gtab2... CWM is bad.
you can try flash your gtab2 with ODIN instead

CWM is OFFICIALLY supported now and works good.
Don't fear.

So I'm new here, I tried rooting my p3100, flashed cwm with Odin, as it rebooted from there it just keeps rebooting - need help please guys......any lil bit of advice would help - I've read on other posts to flash to the stock ROM, but how do i do this? where do i get the rom......

OK so I am back at it and still not having much luck. I can't get as far as the:
"CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.0"
Screen.
From here I do not have a recovery file to use. Which should I use for the P3113....At this point I don't even care if I lose all the data on the tablet and go back to stock. Just need it working again and then do some more research on how to do it right..
Thanks again.

Then use Section E of my guide. It will wipe your data and restore your tablet to stock.

[Q] Help in returning to stock rom

So i'm looking for a little help.
A little while back I used this thread : [GUIDE] TF300T Unlock/Root/Flash for Factory JB Devices (newbie friendly)
To help me install this custom rom : [ROM][TF300]|Mar 28| Energy™ -.¸¸.·´¯ Official JB 4.2.1 Stock or Themed ¯´·.¸¸. -
onto my girlfriends TF300T tablet
and I have this : [RECOVERY][TF300T/TG] TWRP 2.5.0.0 Touch Recovery! [2013-4-9] on there as well
but I can't remember if this was part of the unlock/root/flash process or not, so i'm not sure if it used it during the process or if I added it shortly afterword
now its been while since I have done it but then the tablet started to restart randomly while she was using it.
so I figured no biggie maybe an app got messed up or something, and so I told her to back up her pics, exc she wanted off the unit
and I could look at reinstalling the apps or just taking the unit back to factory rom
about a week later it started to reboot more often randomly
and now it is to the point where it will not make it into the rom
now I can make it into the boot selection where I can choose RCK (for the TWRP), USB, or the other 2 options
and I know I can make it into the TWRP tool as well and it does not repeatedly boot from there, so i'm sure its a rom issue and not a hardware issue, but I could still be wrong
the unit is currently charging so I have not had a chance to try for the usb connection option or anything else yet
hopefully the usb option will work so I can try to recover the pics, exc before taking the unit back to factory
now in the process I know I have unlocked the unit, I believe I have done the min root but have not fully rooted the unit if that makes sense
so i'm just wondering if I will half to fully root (and how do I do that if I do since I can't make it into a rom)
how do I clear the rom that has gone bad
how do I install a factory rom (how do I tell which is the lastest rom, and which one is needed for my unit)
and then I should be good from there
if you need any more info please let me know and maybe some instructions on how to get to that info
in the process of putting the energy rom onto it, I spent a week of reading, researching, and figuring out which way would probably be the safest for me to do, plus the easiest for me to understand
now that it has been so long I have been reading and researching again, I just need that nudge that gets me in the right direction
i'm sure i'm not the only one that has had this issue with a rom, and i'm also sure there is a guide out there already that goes over how to put it back to a factory rom
just for some reason i'm either over looking it or not finding it

Its very simple to return to stock. But first, do you have the tablets drivers installed on your pc?
---------- Post added at 06:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 AM ----------
And do you have fastboot?
if you are talking about the android sdk tools
yes that is installed on my computer from the first time I did the tablet
and I went ahead and did the updates for it as well
and tried plugging the unit in with the fastboot and confirm it shows up in device manager

Lol okay. Theres actually a more simple way.
1. Download the latest asus firmware.
2. Extract the zip file
3. Flash it like a normal rom.
If you cant use this method then you'll have to use fastboot. Here's a link but if you need any help, just ask : http://www.androidauthority.com/transformer-pad-tf300t-restore-stock-firmware-108016/
how do I check the sku according to that guide if i'm not able to load into the android os
that only shows if you can load into the os
would the box have that?
or now looking at the options that I should assume its is a US sku lol

lol, and how do I do that using the twrp?
can't find any detailed instructions on using twrp on flashing a rom, especially the stock one
i'm sure there is a set of detailed instructions cause I swore I saw one once
but i'm not able to find it again
cause I thought besides using the install part there were things I had to clear as well for it to work
oh and yeah the download link for fastboot is no long working in the one guide you gave me to follow so not sure if I already have what it is talking about

Its simple lol. When you download the firmware from asus, its usually in a .zip form. In it, there is another zip file. Copy that zip file onto your tablet and flash it with twrp.

Yes. You have to do a factory reset first.
and how do I do that lol, and what happens when I don't do that first
is this tablet now dead since the step of doing the reset was not complete? cause now I can not access twrp and it just sits there with the asus logo and the swirling dots
when I try to access the usb option all I have is rck, android and wipe, rck just gives a failure shortly after trying

If you want to use twrp, download the us stock firm ware. when you open it, you'll see a file that looks like this: "US_epad-user-10.6.1.15.3". copy that file onto your tablet and flash it like a normal rom. haha
For fastboot, if you have the android sdk, then you already have fastboot so you dont have to download fastboot again.

Help, can't boot into Recovery, TWRP failed, No ROM, MAC

HELP!
i can't boot into recovery!
i was wiping data to flash another rom, and TWRP quit on me. so no rom on it.
only will go to the boot screen
twrp fails.
whenever I try to go into recovery, it stops at the TWRP logo and turn back off.
I can't get into any TWRP menus, etc.
then goes to the Samsung screen, w/ "booped by BMS" but freezes there.
i don't have a PC, so i can't push something to it through ODIN.
what can i do?
can i use CASUAL? somehow?
I have a MAC. Verizon Galaxy s3. Can Casual push a rom onto it?
I read that i can use ADB, but I need to be able to boot into recovery, right?
If i need to borrow a windows computer, I guess I'll have to, just wanted to knwo if there was a mac way to fix it.
thank you for any suggestions.
~john Huie
I don't think there's a mac version of Odin. You may have to borrow a pc to Odin back and reroot and unlock. I just bootcamped my mac for phone software and various windows programs I can't do without. It's not hard at all you just need a copy of windows. But I have to ask your mac is Intel right?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
hey, yes, intel mac.
I can borrow a PC today, I guess I can use ODIN to push a working recovery back on, right? using this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
that's how i rooted the phone.
I would like to get it working on my MAC, no other computer necessary.
Unless there is a way for me to use ADB w/o a recovery.

Someone else is going to have to answer that as that's beyond me. I was thinking maybe you could Odin back to stock, make sure your phone is okay then maybe try the casual method to root, unlock and flash recovery.

I believe I read where they were using a 16gb sdcard to boot instead of jtag. You might be able to flash the recovery via that setup. I'll see if I can find the link. (it was in Sprint but said and was tested on Verizon).

That is only meant for hard bricked phones. The op still have his hardware working so this isn't needed. Also if you read some of the posts there its meant to get you back to download mode as the img file only contains files needed to access download and the stock recovery.

Follow the instructions on getting the bootloader unlocked and getting rooted by flashing CWM.. after all those steps. re open the program and choose Flash BONE STOCK. You will be right back in Android 4.3 update 68 i think from Nvidia. which is right back to when you purchase it from Gamestop. Get it quick before the developer update it to The latest update which is the one your on, 4.4.2.
As long as you follow the instructions and get the Universal Ghost Driver installed properly. It works. I've tried this out already, I em back on Android 4.3..

unfortunately you will lose everything if you go through with this method unless most of your personal stuff is on the MicroSD Card, as it reflashes your original clean untouched recovery... Maybe in the near future there might be another simpler method.

Even though CWM is dead. in order to root using the Shield 1.0 method, CWM is still needed to flash SuperSU.zip.. unless you another method to root, the CWM isn't nessessary to flash. as long as you boot loader is unlocked of course and your rooted. you can use the Bone Stock method, and it will restore the shield back to 4.3.... this is the only way i know of as of now... Once you're on kitkat I dont think you can go back to jellybean. I could be totally wrong but I tried going back to 4.3 and it bricked my shield, wouldn't boot. I didn't spend much time on seeing why it happened, so like I said I Could be totally wrong. I could of had bad files for all I know.

I didn't say u had to use that SHield 1.0 method to root, I said only if your using that method. I know there are other methods to root. The point I was making is that once your rooted and bootloader unlocked. you can still use shield 1.0 to reflash the update 68 i beleive which is android 4.3.. out of the box state from gamestop.... It worked for me having the same latest kitkat OTA that you have......

It does seem like that.. but using SHIELD 1.0.. it worked for me, I'm back on 4.3 update 68 from NVIDIA. Using this mainly for emulators.. I'm sure there will be some type of fix in the near future for kitkat though, when it is, i will update mines back to that...

Ok thats good to know i used fastboot to flash the update 68 files.
you are soo wrong, you arent briked
just set up the ghost drivers on your computer, get fastboot working, download kwonggers toolkit, follow the instructions on screen of your computer to set your shield back to 4.2.2 because the toolkit hasn't been updated and everthing shield is almost as dead as the ouya or worse, so I might just sell the shield from the lack of audience and support and get a bloody snapdragon 801 phone, if NVidia wants to keep this relevant, they need to work with the developer community more, unless shield will die, I have made my choice, now what's yours?

I just got the Shield mainly for emulators, so will stick with 4.22 since that is what the device had out of box. Works great and no need to root or any other hassle for the intended use.

Installed TWRP on StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III - now no OS! - resolved

I have a rooted StraightTalk SCH-S968C Samsung Galaxy S III (with the stock AOSP ROM) that I just screwed up. I had used EZ-Recovery to flash TWRP 2.2.0 to the phone. Now TWRP says there is no OS! I can only boot into TWRP - nothing else. It won't even let me power-down the phone. Is there some way I can recover from this, or do I now have a very expensive electronic brick (that runs TWRP)? I have adb installed on my laptop and I know it works, so that's one possible route to recovery. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure it's possible to return it completely to stock with the COMBINATION_S968CUDUAMH1_S968CTFNAMH1_1304014_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file through Odin. I just to happen to have the file right here.. small warning though, it's 1.2 gigs.

That's the file I am offering to host on my Website, since nobody seems to be able to download it from Dropbox. I'm having trouble downloading it from Mega... Since the file is over 1 GB, Mega insisted I needed to download their extension, but it's not compatible with Firefox 22. I tried Chrome, and Mega says that Chrome on my laptop is "a bit outdated"... sheesh! I'll try and update it.
(added later) - I found a Dropbox link for the file and it's downloading now.
If you want to FTP the file to my Website, let me know by PM and I'll give you the username and password.
I tried using fastboot to install CWM Recovery, but fastboot is eternally "waiting for device" even though it's there (adb can see it).
Aug. 7 - Got the file I needed, but didn't use it since Windows7 would not recognize the phone even after I installed the drivers. (I think it was an issue with automatic updates being disabled...) In the meantime... I tried the button-combo for the bootloader (which I swore I tried the day before and it didn't work), and the phone booted into the bootloader! From there, I pressed "Volume down" to cancel & reboot the phone, and it went into the stock system - it was all still there! First thing I did was immediately use EZ-Recovery to flash CWM 5.8.4.5. - Issue resolved!
Deleted.

In that thread go down to method 2 of getting a custom recovery. I downloaded cwm touch from the link there and then installed it with android terminal emulator using the codes that it says to type in. I tried to look up that stock rom but I didnt find it. Its on the forum somewhere in a thread about how to root the straight talk s3 and how first you need to download and flash the h1 baseband stock rom
Thanks I found the stock rom fixing it now.

Have you gotten recovery installed and straightened out yet?
Let me know if you need some help, tell me where you're at and what you've got going on with what you have.
I returned phone to stock. The recovery wasn't in the right place obviously. So that's where I am . Stuck back at stock. Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you on stock not rooted or you are rooted?
Do you have stock recovery or custom.
I can get you to wherever you need or want. Tell me what you need or where you'd like to be.

I have combined 2 s3's to make one good one. This is the proper thread for the model of the chipset. The phone has been worked on buy someone who only thought they were a genious. I've found traces and from surfing the forums I'm pretty sure I know what they did even. I'm gonna grab these stock images and flash back to stock. I just wanted to put a word in now to see how dead this thread is. BTW just for the record easy safe root is achievable with safroot for Att g s 4. I've confirmed that. Root is no issue. Modem drivers are jacked up. I want what I have now with WiFi in tact and custom recovery. Just wanted to get the word in in case I hit a wall with recovery as I am now before the flash to stock. Thanks in advance for any help. Sorry for the ramble

I have tried flashing stock android to un-brick it but it didn't work ( Odin showed a FAIL message and my phone displayed system rev. check fail device: 2 binary 1
My phone is now stuck on the boot screen showing the message RECOVER IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
Please can someone help me unbrick this thing, using the simplest language possible, thanks so much in advance
First of all, did you read everything before rooting your phone?

Hi, I got the same error a couple of days ago when I bricked my phone and it was because of the ROM I downloaded. If you tried to flash a 5.0.2 ROM you'll get that error, flash a 5.1.1 instead and it should go fine

Just download the stock ROM, but make sure its running the version 5.1.1 and NOT the version 5.0.2.
Then just flash that ROM through odin and it should be fine.
Here's the website I got my ROM off, took a while to download though... http://forum.youmobile.org/downloads/?cat=42;PHPSESSID=0fa1c4db175a41a315299d62e08997d8
Also, how did you try to root? Just curious

Auto reboot and F reset time... Are you loading the ROM into 'AP' in Odin? And what version are you using? I used odin 3.10.6
Flash twrp and install a custom rom.i screwed mine like you, I don't think you'll be able to flash stock back. So just get a rom

It's not called a rom. It's called stock firmware. Don't get him confused.

Technically everything you flash wether it is over Odin or recovery is called a rom. Only the Stock ones provided by the manufacturer are called firmware. You could also say custom firmware for custom roms.
But no confusion here
Alright everyone, after trying to flash the stock ROM a few times it just suddenly decided to work! Thanks so much for all of your help!

Yup it's EXACTLY the same, only unikernel will only take a minute to do compared to a full ROM Here's the link to the one I used https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347784025
Don't think there's anything else other than be careful lol
