Flash Player no longer developed for Android?! - General Questions and Answers

Brwosing BBC News Tech and I found this:
Flash Player exits Android store http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19267140
Anyone else know about this? Why are Adobe canceling Flash for Android cause of JB issues? Most people are using GB anyway....
Seems like you can't trust any major company anymore....

You can still download the apk from many many places including xda..
So, the removal of Flash from Play Store doesn't really matter much.

As announced directly from Adobe, Android will no longer support Flash Player to the latest version of the OS and then Google came home on devices not just the Flash Player.
Is not officially supported, but that does not mean that Flash Player can not be installed on our device with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.
Here, in fact, a small guide to follow to install Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.12:
1) Download the file. Apk of Flash Player:http://www.mediafire.com/?lqxd6qnr63kj2t1
Download the file flash_player version 11.1.102.59.apk:http://d-h.st/o1I
Dolphin Browser HD 8.5.1 APK (Supports Flash):http://d-h.st/3ZS
2) Copy your files to the SD card of your Android device. (Be it tablet or smartphone, it makes no difference)
3) Install it using any File Manager.
4) Start the Browser
5) Go into the Browser settings and uncheck the option of Flash Player (on demand or always on at your discretion)
6) Finally you have the latest version of Flash also Android!
NB Adobe Flash Player is not officially supported and therefore the speed of loading of Flash objects in HTML pages is not guaranteed at the highest levels. However, as tested, Flash Player behaves well with satisfactory results.

This is VERY old news, Adobe made the anoucement back when ICS was released there is no need for another thread :/

It would be nice if Flash died (except for already-created games/animations). HTML5 YouTube player on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 works great and doesn't affect performance much. Flash Player is a battery hog and is only really there for compatibility. A lot of sites are designed for the iPhone, which doesn't do Flash. When you think about it, very few mobile-capable sites use Flash.

Flash player is outdated now, it's a good thing to be abandoned

Interesting..

I think you can still download from other places

Yeah you can still get it, but it's sad that development has stopped. Flash for android is such a plus for me.

it is so bad

look! I think the next generation of smartphone is intergrated HTML5. Adobe flash player isn't all we think about on android. It's good. But it's done

They have a working version that works on jellybean

Found that post in playstore, but you can still get "flash player install" for free, and seems to be the only way to get it too.

I m happy about it, flash is terrible eater even on notebook, hopefully is flash slowly diying.

I always have a saved apk file from my older android phones uploaded to dropbox and add to any new phone I get.

Adobe Flash - 4.1 Jelly Bean

So as we are all aware Adobe said they wouldn't support flash in Jelly Bean, as stated here - http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/375574/adobe-kills-off-flash-for-android
Of course on the Jelly Bean ROM I'm running flash doesn't appear in the market, but when I installed the apk, flash worked perfectly on a number of websites.
Just out of curiosity I was wondering if anyone knew the reason as to why it still works?! This is not a huge update to ICS so may be due to that but I was just being interested and wondering. Anyone have any insight?
Cheers guys.
EDIT: I have attached the adobe flash apk, the latest one. Install it on your device manually if you're running jelly bean and flash should work. Although I think we have established it will only work in the default android browser
They've only stopped support, doesn't mean that it won't work but if it doesn't on certain devices then they won't fix it or support it, because it's not a massive update there's a very good chance that it will work.
Basically the apk is the android software, the Google Play store filters out Adobe flash because you are running Android 4.1 jelly bean which explains why you cannot find it in the Google Play store.
When you install the apk, it will still work because Adobe have only stopped support for it, they haven't disabled it or blocked it. The term 'support it' means to give the product updates and provide help for users. Adobe are no longer providing updates (apart from security updates) and help to users for Adobe flash on android.

Use the stock browser. If you're using any other browser it may/may not work/may work slightly. But the apk in the OP is pulled from my motorola xoom and i have it installed and it was working on youtube and various other flash sites through the stock browser.
Dolphin HD browser won't load flash (and has a nasty nag screen if you try to enable it).
Many thanks for the information from here and other sources, as a result of which I've managed to get Flash sites working on the Nexus 7. In case it helps the non-technical, I've blogged full step by step instructions with screenshots on how to install Flash on the Nexus 7 and set up browsers (with link back to this thread), at my blog at consumingexperience.com (sorry, I'm new here so can't post a working link direct to the post).
I've tested several browsers and listed the results and browser settings in that post. Mainly I've tried them on UK TV catchup sites ie BBC iPlayer, 4od, Demand Five, ITV Player.
In summary, generally on the Nexus 7 I found Firefox Aurora (with the Phony add-on) and XScope to be the most reliable so far. An older version of Dolphin does work, but not as well. I couldn't get either Opera Mobile or Opera Mini to work.
Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this! I had another apk that everyone claimed was working fine but I have the CM10 preview build for Verizon Galaxy Nexus and couldn't play any videos until I tried your apk.

Since its for 3.x and earlier versions of android isn't cm9 4.04 so that may be why. Don't know a whole lot in the dev area but read through and that would make since to me as to why it wouldn't be there.

It's still not clear to me why it isn't/wasn't showing up in Play, but there are several threads on XDA with the apk available. Since it isn't from Adobe, I can't vouch for the source, but I installed the apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978148
To be honest with you I haven't seen Flash Player in Play for awhile. I had been going between mtd and bml roms and kept downloading apps fresh and I've been having to Google the apk to install it while on ICS.

I know that they weren't offering Flash if you didn't already have it installed, but I was under the perception that it would still upgrade.

Need help about flash player

Hi, I haven't yet the Galaxy s3 but i want to ask you a question.. for me the flash player is important then I read that there is a possibility to install it because in the market android there isn't (i'm italian then in my nation this app isn't in the market)
then, it's secure install an app not recognized by the sytem? there is a kind of lag and things like this or it's perfect?
now, i want to know how i can install this,
1) first of all i must allow Unknown Sources when prompted or else it will not install
2) then I must download the file flash_player version 11.1.115.27, right?
3) finally run the stock browser
right? help me please

You are right. Unfortunately adobe flash is not supported on android 4.0 so just use Dolphin Beta or Chrome. I was a big adobe flash fan but when I upgraded to the S3 it took me a while to get used to not having flash. I found Chrome (specialy the newest version) is not that bad also Dolphin Beta. I use the 2 regularly.

That is so misleading. There are still many sites out there that use flash that you can't view without using the now unsupported flash application and a browser that supports it, like the stock browser on GSIII. I use chrome, but occasionally call the stock browser for sites with flash.

HTML5 may be the future, but Flash is still very much the present. Don't let the Apple-esque mindsets tell you otherwise. Flash is necessary for a complete web experience. Get the Flash APK, install it, and enjoy. It will appear in your market under your apps afterward and will update normally.
I use the Android browser with it, and it works fine. As stated, other 3rd party browsers will work well with Flash, too.

How do I get it to show up in the Play store? I just manually updated from version .17 to .27, although Adobe's flash player test page shows it's still .17(?). Neither version of Flash player shows up in the Play store for me, under the installed or all tabs.
I ~believe~ the process I used was side-loading the Flash .apk file and using Astro file manager to install it. After that, it showed up for my S III in the Play Store.
Hmm. I used dropbox to put it on my sdcard, then installed through ES File Explorer. ES/Astro - same thing, right? Oh well, at least it's functional.

[Mod] Flash Player To Watch Hulu for AND 4.X NO ROOT

NO ROOT REQUIREDHello all I just got back from overseas to find my Hulu + hack no longer works and Android has updated so much it does not include Adobe Flash anymore. The file system was so different on my Samsung G S4 Active running 4.2.2 I almost gave up on trying to get this to work.........well I never give up!! As you see in the video all you have to do is install it. I will still break it down.
WHAT I DID -
Almost everyone is familiar with modding the flashplayer.so file from AND to WIN. WIN only get's you to the Platform Not Supported screen. Well I took it to another level. I changed the same line to LNX 11,9,900,99 and the SWF line from 11.1 r115 to 11.9 r900. This yielded better results and came close to the latest player for Linux platforms. DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU DON"T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. Pages like Hulu or VEVO are checking the version of your flash player to determine your platform not the HTTP Headers. That AND 11.1 let's them know right off the back you're on android. Took a stab in the dark to figure this out. Maybe I shouldn't divulging this much but I want others to do it on their own. Shouldn't matter anymore since we will not get anymore updates for adobe.
**A note for those who are rooted who have a custom rooted rom with a custom kernel like me, I have Blackhawk kernel 1.8 for my Tab 3 7", the stock browser or any otherbrowser allows you to use this mod if it supports plugins. I'm guessing it will work with any stock browser in any of the custom rom that is rooted with a custom kernel**
Please read everything before proceeding !!NO ROOT REQUIRED (unless you had it preinstalled)!! Perform at your own risk. I am NOT responsible for your device!!
If you had the app preinstalled when you bought the device you will need to be rooted to uninstall it from the /system/app folder. After you have uninstalled any previous versions REBOOT your device. I would do it two times. I had to for my Samsung Galaxy S4. Don't know why......
Stock Browsers on phones like my Samsung Galaxy S4 Active do not support plugins anymore. FIREFOX is the ONLY apk I found that works with this mod on none rooted devices. This is because Firefox specifically points to the plugins folder while others only call for webview permissions to allow plugins. Please let me know if the apk does not work on your device or build. Please try Firefox browser with this mod first to ensure it works:
1. Download my mod here: ICS_MOD_FLASH.apk
2. Make sure you have install from "Unknown Source" is enabled in settings on your device
3. Install mod and enjoy
Only if you are rooted:
Download and unzip, then paste the plugins folder on your device in /system/lib it makes the video playback on HD more stable. In the old stock builds this folder was already there. It's not anymore.
plugins.zip

Hi, I've been messin around with this, and for me dolphin didn't work, flashfox didn't work. Maxthon didn't work, of course Opera didn't either.
Found a couple more that do though- Photon Browser and Boat Browser. I prefer Boat because Photon's UI sucks, and is more intrusive(hey, do ya wanna upgrade at start up), but Photons user agent options are more handy. Both latest versions got from G play store.
Didn't try FireFox cuz of it's size, am low on data, n can't move it to SD, phones already lagging. With Boat and Photon can be moved, plus cache to SD.
Questions, I'm rooted and put modded flashplayer .so in /system/lib/plug ins/ com .adobe.... and is working. Why is there also these in /data/data/ com .adobe....? Can I go ahead and delete these .so's?
