Focus on why you even want an LG Thrill/O3D in the first place.
I love the 3D, with Promethius or Thiaz you can get this phone screamin, but at the same time you suffer some wifi, tether, blutooth bugs that may not be worth the trade off. If you plan to run stock than you're completely crazy cause Froyo and GB both have major bugs that make them pretty much unusable stock. Other than that there really aren't any Thrill specific issues to look out for. Just what you'd look for with any phone, scuff marks, missing pixels, cracked screen, etc.
I'm personally in the process of warranty exchanges with ATT to hopefully get a Nitro or something else with an upgrade reset. The physical build quality of this phone is awesome but unfortunately the software is terrible without the mod community and even they can only do so much with what they have.

Well thanks for advice.
I was planning to buy HTC Desire HD. And then i saw benchmarks and hardware on LG 3d. But again i don't know, i'm scared of those problems with software. I readed a lot about issues on LG 3d and don't know if it's worth that money.
If you love to tweak or fix stuf, you will love O3D!
I love it because of that.If you are not ready for fixing software, then do not buy it.

My advices
First of all - exterior look: scratches, hits, look on the back of the phone at the speaker. Open it up and look under the battery if it was opened - the waranty seal should be intact.
Power it up - normally should vibrate when it stopped loading the system.
See how fast hooks up the network and, important, if it works with your SIM - no SIM Lock or Network Lock I mean.
Look for dead pixels or burned pixels. Use a white background and a black one.
Make some calls to check the speakers, microphones and other things related to the talking part. Call someone and get called.
Turn on the bluetooth and wifi to see if they work properly.
Check the state of the buttons - especially Power Button and see how responsive is the screen and if it was - or better yet IS, protected with some screen protection.
Hook up the headphones and see if everything is ok.
Anyway - look for the obvious!
I really like hardware of LG 3d, benchmarks are equal to HTC Sensation. Display is great 4.3 is size that i want. But i'm only afraid of software.
So if i flash rom without bugs, with good kernel will my phone be 100% functional?
And what do you think will ICS fix all the bugs?

That i wanna hear. I'm not total noob, i'll find out how to do that, if i buy phone.

Most roms have been updated to be based off v21e. As long as you have v21e, you won't have ghost calls.

For similar cash you can get a S2. I am no expert but I've played around with my O3D and I bought my gf the S2 and stuck CM9 on it. Nicer screen, better RAM and much thinner and lighter.
Additionally, the O3D has been buggy to deal with and support from LG is poor. I have mine running well now but we've only recently got the GB update, which is ridiculous. And even that is buggy as hell - ghost calls, loss of network etc are common to the point of frustration. Its only thanks to the guys on here that my phone is smooth and even flashing v21e gave me hassle.
3D is obviously the big advantage and the phone is impressive in that area. Avatar in 3D is cool but I don't use the 3D anywhere near as much as I used to.
In summary, great 3D, phone is chunky, poor support from LG, it is possible to get smooth performance from the phone but it might cause you hassle and stress to get there.
Hope that helps

I know that SGS2 is bestbuy phone, but price is higher for about 40eur/50dollars (i'm talking about used phones) . For money that i wanna buy phone, other option is HTC Desire HD, but it has single core, worse GPU..
I don't wanna buy this phone because od 3D mode(OK it's nice ti have it), but for great hardware. With that hardware HTC - SAMSUNG and other are at much higher price.
And i'm secretly hoping that ICS will be released soon, and that's phone gona be better.

With a 21e based rom and a good kernel...the phone runs great...dont worry about that...no restart..no overheating..
and no ghost calls
I recommend installing thiaiz 2.8 rom.
its works great without the need to a diffrent kernel or overclocking..
With a great benchmark scores for stock frequancy

I've just had a look on eBay and you are correct. The price of this phone has come down quite a bit and there may be an even bigger price difference than you said. For the price of a second hand phone (£150), its actually a good bargain.

Hey guys, i am currently interested in getting the g2x to dev on. I dev for the Moto defy since the day it came out and have plenty of roms. Now my question is how are you guys experience with this device? I've read some complaints of tons of reboot and back light leak, poor signal..etc.. Any comments would be much appreciated, looking forward to getting this phone
Very good device. Some have backlight bleed but only really noticeable in the dark and when looking at it on an angle.
I haven't had any reboots recently but once when i got a call and after hung up it just died and had to pull battery.
Main problem seems to be that Nvidia's lack of sources for A2DP functionality for stereo bluetooth and that 2.3.3 is on froyo kernel so further updates with custom roms would be difficult.
thanks for the reply, how are the roms? Any problems with current roms ?

In all honesty, CM7 works perfectly even with the lack of a2dp support. 2.3.3 OTA based roms (namely Weapon G2x) works just as well if you want that close to stock feel with more features. MIUI has all the same problems CM7 does since they run off the same kernel.
I've never had any issues with reboots, and if people do it's probably because of rogue apps running in the background. I never had a reboot because I like keeping my app drawer as minimal as possible At least, that is my theory
I love my g2x..just checked the sgs2 but not really into that much, my g2x on Cm7 was faster... The roms are good, I do agree with the lack of tegra support but Meh. Love it..please get one and welcome..
I love my phone.
Excellent performance, excellent display, and excellent battery life. I'm on my 3rd one, but that was because my first one kept locking up, and my 2nd replacement came damaged.
I love this phone, and I wouldn't want to replace it with anything else until the Nexus Prime. ^_^
Absolutely zero problems, love this phone so much. One of the best parts is the glass. It's curved, which makes unlocking it feel really good , and the glass feels really thick and solid. Also NO scratches, coming from an iphone all these things are huge. Loving it.
I feel like this phone can stay up to date with most of the devices coming out right now... On Android, you don't actually need 1GB of RAM... Heck, 512MB is more than enough! I'm gonna hold out until the quad core phones start coming in... If the Nexus Prime is still a dual core, I won't even bother.
I got 99 experiences but a reboot ain't one.
My 1st G2x is running good.
no reboots, no reception issues.
runs great and my app drawer always has at least 200 apps.
lol
I haven't started deving /theming on it yet.
Thanks everyone for you input! Just placed the order for it and cant wait to get. Never dev for any other devices besides moto , so im looking forward to this.
Awesome a new dev!!! Wanna thank you in advance. Good luck

My wife and I both have our 3rd G2x (due to replacements of bad phones). The phones we have now are doing well, however we both did experience a random SHUTOFF not reboot. It only happened twice, so I'm just waiting to see if that happens again, really weird.
My G2x is is running great. On my second one due to random shut downs on my first. I only experienced a couple reboots until I got a brand new battery and rooted the phone. Currently running Eagles Blood 2.3.5 others no misshaps. Love it.

This is a great phone. For those of us that have had no problems, the intended impact of the device is evident.
However, you cannot ignore what a lot of people went through. for many, the g2x experience was the worst possible.
LG and T-Mobile appear to have let the phone fade away. Even though its for sale, and can be had for cheap, it no longer appears in comparison with other good phones on the market today. Check the reviews out their today...cnet, etc....The powers that be have let it fade away.
Even DEVs appear to have moved on. Many of the people here a few months ago have moved to other devices. Even saying that, there are some real good ROMs out there...just less people deving them.
In all honesty I have to say, this phone is the best phone I've owned. But in that same honesty, I'd have to say, you may want to consider something else. Even the Sensation is now getting far more press and exposure from T-Mobile than this beauty. There are TONs of ROMs available for the Sensation and some of the best DEVs from the android world are there.
I've recently considered the Bionic....but the VzW pricing plan is just too much. Minimum $100 a month to walk out with a Bionic.
I love the G2x. But if you want long term upgradabiity...you may wish to look elsewhere.
Just my opinion....

No. It just finds it. Maybe not on second one, but 10-20.
Also, I came to G2x from the Bold, which would die in a day with no usage under dead zones. That was a huge problem - I was forced to enable and disable airplane mode all around. The G2x is great in that matter.

I have noticed that a lot of problems happen under the stock ROM or roms based on the stock one.
Flashing something like CM7 or MIUI fixes a lot of problems.
Hey guys, I have a chance to switch out my MT4G for a G2x through insurance.
I know the spec difference, my only concern is how CM7 and MIUI run on the G2x?
CM7 and MIUI both run perfectly on the MT4G, so was worried that it won't be as good on the G2x.
Main concerns are if it has any GPS and or.wifi problems?
Anyways, any response would be greatly appreciated!

Both of those ROM's work and run awesome on the G2x. Although if you were to flash a ROM, i would definitely go with CM7. MiUi still has its problems....CM7 on the other hand, is very close to perfection!
Although, all phones are different...some could have running problems and some never do. I guess this what i like most about my G2x, i learn something new about the phone everyday. Lol.
But this phone is virtually, BULLETPROOF. (just like a 4G63 or 4B11 )

Kinda...some phones might be worst than others. Other know Hardware problems are the Random reboots and freezes. But a custom ROM should be able to fix any hardware imperfection.
i went from a mt4g to a g2x through insurance too and its the best decision i ever made it only has 1 issue, screen bleeding but it doesnt make a difference at all unless you put full brightness in a dark room thats when youll notice it or when you look from an angle and i only use miui for the g2x its perfect

A few phones from the earlier batches (including mine, which has now been replaced with insurance... damn tile floors) had issues with the HDMI out causing the battery to short out when you plugged in an HDMI cable. The most logical explanation was bad soldering, but the issue was never common enough to make it to T-Mo's known issues.
Several people's phones got fried (there's a really old thread about it in this forum I believe), while in mine I just had to get a new battery. Doubt it would be an issue, but you can never know too little.
Hi all,
I am new to this sect of the forum, currently own Samsung T959(Vibrant). Looking to buy another phone to play with on craigslist. I saw couple of them listed for $200. Need your true opinion and thoughts of the G2x. Thank you. Is $200 good deal?? most of them listed for 275 to 300.
my honest opinion... if it is rooted and played with enough to find stable for you, then yes 250$ is worth it. I have a very stable and good working phone that gets about 16-24 hours of average use (for me) with data on always.

Thank you..what r the most common issues with this phone, i.e like on Vibrant GPS is our most common problem, what about G2x??
has reboots for some people I've had two myself one of which I was overclocked to 1.6 GHz lol... some people have BSOD (black screen of death) plug your phone in to charge it wont wake up without battery pull, issue I've never had. GPS, Wi-Fi, audio all are great for me... (don't use blue tooth) HDMI worked the one time I used it at a family members house. that's all i got really that are actual reported issues. I love the phone get alot of compliments on it. How I feel is: it's good enough for me to last at least another year, especially if the devs keep up their dedication on ICS and if LG will actually put out ICS for us.
He mt3g is bsod kernel specific? I had that like 5 times over a 2 month period using faux kernels? Never with morfic yet. And when I had it it drained the battery two. I've had 3 rebooted since launch which was in April. So I don't have that problem. I honestly believe 200 is a good price because there is a fix for everything on XDA that this phone have. Dev isn't like the vibrant though. We do have a few dedicated devs so its not really a big deal.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
It definitely depends on your kernel and hardware. I was getting tons of bsods with trinity (probably need to do a full wipe) but I get none on faux ds kernel.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
Awesome hardware.
Crappy software unless you root it and flash a custom ROM.
GPS is pretty ****ty, & unreliable. But works well sometimes, just not all the time for some reason.
512mb's of RAM just sucks. My browser and launcher always gets pushed out of memory frequently no matter what ROM/kernel I have.
Overall it's a decent phone. Doesn't really hold up to the newer phones that are out now, especially with the ones that have 1GB of total RAM. But it's a good phone to get on the cheap, so good luck!
Ya I agree that it is very much kernel specific just by what I read places, especially since some people can't even load a rom with specific kernels in them the phone just wont except them cause they are under-volted. Luckily I don't have any of the issues people report. Oh and the phone is pretty tough as well I've dropped it 4 times no case, on cement, asphalt, and what ever is at the bar I go to... I think that fake softer tile look-a-like stuff, linoleum... any who, no cracks and breaks just dings and dents lol.

Also like mt3g I'm very clumsy and I dropped this phone on asphalt concrete hardwood you name it, hasn't cracked yet

I wouldn't spend a lot on it. For me, when it works, its great but every single rom I have tried has resulted in either random reboots or "Black screens of death". TYhe battery life is bad too, you really need to setup alot of things to get the most out of it.
The phone does run apps like a champ though and if you are into pocket gaming then this phone is great.
Imagine buying a sports car but the radiator doesn't work all the time causing it to overheat and forcing you shut off once in while. also imagine that instead of a normal fuel tank, it comes with one that is half the size. you still got a nice sports car but it has problems.

Same here, except I got it for $260 with 1-day shipping. I couldn't wait long for it.
I UV -50mv no problem, I haven't tried anything less because I get almost a full 24 hours of use, I don't want to mess with a perfect thing. By far better battery life, better than the Vibrant for sure, even with it running ICS, which I got the best battery life on the Vibrant.
The only complaint I have is the GPS. It works when it wants to, I got used to not having one on the Vibrant, I could never get it to work. Its definitely better than the Vibrant, as it actually connects sometimes.
But for $200, you're getting one hell of a phone. Use Bionix Reloaded v1.3 or stability, reliability, and battery life. Use a CM7 based ROM for speed and performance. Don't use ICS yet if you need everything to work however, its still very Alpha. Very.

So what you think personally
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
that is what I think personally, it all depends on what you look for. I don't know if you're gonna root either device, if so what you wan't installed on them, MyTouch will have MySense on it which is bloat and a pain in the ass in my opinion, if you root it and need a keyboard and install a Cyanogen rom then I say go for the MyTouch... if you want a gaming device then go with the G2X, if you don't need the keyboard and don't care about custom skins like Sense, then go with the G2X... it's about your preference!
Taking the specs aside I think if I could I would get the MT4GSlide only because of that keyword. I mean typing the screen of the G2x is great but something about the slide keyboards brings me back to the good old G1 days.
my g2x has a lovely screen and its fun to game on i personally wouldnt trade it for a mytouch slide.
I personally would trade it. Then sell it, then rebuy the g2x. Other than that I wouldn't.

Can you explain why for us?

I believe the MT4G Slide has open drivers since it's a snapdragon, meaning it probably has FULLY functional ICS ROMs (I wouldn't be too sure). It also has an amazing camera with zero shutter-lag. But eh, it's up to you. Try checking out their Subforum to see if there's anything there that you'd like. I'd stick with my G2x running Owain's CM9 KANG
Get a Bluetooth keyboard.

For reliability, yes take the MT4GS. It has no SOD's, no random reboots or shutoffs, and most importantly a fully functioning GPS that doesn't crap out on you when you most need it. And I believe it has more RAM as well with a camera that's 100x better than the G2x.
Other than that, G2x for the screen size and speaker quality.

Are you still having all those issues? My G2x runs flawlessly. What rom are you using that has all these issues?
I am surprised an experienced person such as yourself has not been able to get the phone to work.

There have been many experienced users here that suffer from these problems, even some of the devs. As for me, I actually don't have these problems except for the GPS issue.
I've just seen enough experienced people complain about this issue to the point where it is a problem.
And I think it's annoying when there's people that constantly ask people how they're having problems since "theirs runs so godly", thus every one else is doing it wrong. I had a MT4G before this and it was a champ on stock and an even better champ rooted.
But for the G2x it's pretty bad stock and maybe you can fix all problems rooted, or maybe not.
Let's not even talk specs. Holding the two phones together, I can already seeing myself choose G2x over MyTouch any day.
I bought my g2x secondhand. No problem excepwhen removing HDMI cable its a little tight
My GPS locks under 1.5minute without data using copilot

mack...I was not trying to annoy you, but in a thread where someone is asking for advice you list numerous problems, but then you say you do not have any of those problems. It just seemed like mindless bashing. The vast majority of folks have been able to correct any issues through a new battery or a better rom than the stock one. If you want the GPS to function as it should you may want to try New Clip. Not the fanciest rom, but super stable with good battery life and excellent GPS. I can tweak the appearance on my own so many of the bells and whistles of other roms do not interest me. Stability does. Anyway, I am glad your phone does not have all the issue you listed. I was pretty sure you would be able to overcome any problems, just as many of us have.
Hey, everyone. I just joined these forums because it seems to be a very large network. I am thinking about purchasing a smart phone. I have two options as of now, and those are the G2X and the G2. I don't care if it has a physical keyboard or if its touchscreen, as long as it works fine, I don't care. Specs-wise, I LOVE the G2X, it seems like a nice budget phone. After doing minimal research, I came across countless threads in various forums of G2X users complaining that they were getting overheated batteries, two crashes a day, etc.
These threads were from a while ago, so I was wondering if they found a solution to this.. I know a little about rooting and custom ROM's, and I will probably do that, and get ICS on my G2x/G2. I love the looks of the G2X and how it works, etc. The only problem is I don't want it to crash. I then started looking at the G2.
I like the G2 as well, but its a VERY old phone. It still has 4G, but I am a little concerned about the hinge. The battery life seems great and all as well..
Bottom line is that both phones are very great. I prefer the G2X since it is newer, faster, and has a lot more features. Only problem is that people KEEP saying that it crashes or that LG sucks. I was thinking about picking up a used phone off of Ebay or whatever.. Can you guys tell me what you think? I REALLY want the G2x, but if its gonna crash, I will go with the G2. Like if the solution to the problem is as simple as rooting the phone and installing CM9, I will go for it.. PLEASE TELL ME ASAP!
Thanks in advance.
If the crashes the bugs r worrying u then I suggest u stick with the g2 rather than the g2x......but if u want to tweak our phones and suck every single processing power out of it go for the g2x.....

Haha, thanks for the fast reply... Well, both for me.. I want to tweak the crap outta it, and the crashes annoy me haha! Is there any known cause/fix for the crashes? I will do anything to fix them because the G2x seems like a GREAT phone!
If you don't car about the ffc or dual core processor, go for the G2. It probably has a fully working ics rom and nearly fully work jb rom simply because it doesn't have a closed source processor like our g2x. When I was looking to buy a used phone off eBay last year, I would have gotten something different if I had known the processor was closed source. Gb roms are fine for me, gets the job done but come on. gb is 2 generations old. We will never have the same stability on ics or jb roms.

Ughh, haha. I love the specs on the G2X. I agree, the G2 is a very old phone, but that doesn't usually bother me. The dual-core processor is what really gets to me. Seems like a great phone actually, and it may be too late to go for the G2, its very old. I will only be using this phone for 5 months before purchasing a newer one, so G2x or G2? And have you experienced any major crashes? I want to make it as bug-free as possible, so what ROM should I go for? I really appreciate it.
The G2x has a plethora of awesome, stable ROMs based on GB. If you really want ICS, though, it comes with some bugs on our phone. I personally don't think they're a deal breaker, as I use mine as a daily driver on ICS, and I rely on my phone due to my chosen profession. However, it all depends on how much you can put up with. ICS on G2x means no video recording, very unreliable video playback, occasional data drops, and potentially no Bluetooth calling depending on what Baseband you're on.
What is does come with, however, is an amazing set of devs that made this phone bearable.
Hope that helps

Buy a used phone
Can you pay for a phone outright? Or are you just going for the free options?
Swappa.com has a bunch of phones that would work for t-mobile, and you can switch to the value plans or even monthly(no contract) plans when you bring your own phone.
I wholly endorse buying a phone out of contract, I've done it for years and it's saved me money in the long run(used phones) while still swapping phones every year.
Thanks a lot, rtotheichie. I appreciate your reply. Seems like all of the complaints I have been seeing are from a while ago. According to you, the dev team has now released many stable ROM's to make the phone "bearable." I need video recording and playback, so I would like a ROM that is very stable.. I would rather have no video playback than crashes and reboots. I guess I will go with the G2x then. If all these ROM's really fix the problems, I'm gonna LOVE this phone! Should I go ahead and purchase it on Ebay? Please tell me beforehand. I am in a tight situation and can't be wasting money on junk that doesn't work well..
Thanks!
Go for the g2x its the better of the 2 phones, ics on this phone is gimped due to lack of drivers that lg or nvidia wont release. Still tho our devs have done an outstanding job on these ics roms.
Personally ill only use gb roms since there the most stable, cant go wrong with cm 7.2 stable this phone is still beast!

I'm new to android and don't know much about custom ROM's, etc.. I would prefer ICS and a stable ROM... I have been hearing that Hellfire Phoenix has very good releases. Still, the main problem prevails.. I don't want crashes/reboots! This is a great phone, and hopefully custom ROM's can take care of the crashing issues! Can anyone else tell me if they still have problems with their G2X?

g2x for the love of the hardware
G2 for the love of the software
Which one makes you more involved in a phone?
Buy that.
Problem solved.

With the news of ICS coming, I'd say G2X. There will hopefully be more development whenever it is released. It is great value for the hardware, afterall.
Out of those two..def g2x. hardware wise it still competes with phones coming out this year...now software, that's a whole other ball game. Lg/nividia (cough cough)
