So what you think personally
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
that is what I think personally, it all depends on what you look for. I don't know if you're gonna root either device, if so what you wan't installed on them, MyTouch will have MySense on it which is bloat and a pain in the ass in my opinion, if you root it and need a keyboard and install a Cyanogen rom then I say go for the MyTouch... if you want a gaming device then go with the G2X, if you don't need the keyboard and don't care about custom skins like Sense, then go with the G2X... it's about your preference!
Taking the specs aside I think if I could I would get the MT4GSlide only because of that keyword. I mean typing the screen of the G2x is great but something about the slide keyboards brings me back to the good old G1 days.
my g2x has a lovely screen and its fun to game on i personally wouldnt trade it for a mytouch slide.
I personally would trade it. Then sell it, then rebuy the g2x. Other than that I wouldn't.

I believe the MT4G Slide has open drivers since it's a snapdragon, meaning it probably has FULLY functional ICS ROMs (I wouldn't be too sure). It also has an amazing camera with zero shutter-lag. But eh, it's up to you. Try checking out their Subforum to see if there's anything there that you'd like. I'd stick with my G2x running Owain's CM9 KANG
Get a Bluetooth keyboard.

For reliability, yes take the MT4GS. It has no SOD's, no random reboots or shutoffs, and most importantly a fully functioning GPS that doesn't crap out on you when you most need it. And I believe it has more RAM as well with a camera that's 100x better than the G2x.
Other than that, G2x for the screen size and speaker quality.

I am surprised an experienced person such as yourself has not been able to get the phone to work.

There have been many experienced users here that suffer from these problems, even some of the devs. As for me, I actually don't have these problems except for the GPS issue.
I've just seen enough experienced people complain about this issue to the point where it is a problem.
And I think it's annoying when there's people that constantly ask people how they're having problems since "theirs runs so godly", thus every one else is doing it wrong. I had a MT4G before this and it was a champ on stock and an even better champ rooted.
But for the G2x it's pretty bad stock and maybe you can fix all problems rooted, or maybe not.
Let's not even talk specs. Holding the two phones together, I can already seeing myself choose G2x over MyTouch any day.
I bought my g2x secondhand. No problem excepwhen removing HDMI cable its a little tight
My GPS locks under 1.5minute without data using copilot

mack...I was not trying to annoy you, but in a thread where someone is asking for advice you list numerous problems, but then you say you do not have any of those problems. It just seemed like mindless bashing. The vast majority of folks have been able to correct any issues through a new battery or a better rom than the stock one. If you want the GPS to function as it should you may want to try New Clip. Not the fanciest rom, but super stable with good battery life and excellent GPS. I can tweak the appearance on my own so many of the bells and whistles of other roms do not interest me. Stability does. Anyway, I am glad your phone does not have all the issue you listed. I was pretty sure you would be able to overcome any problems, just as many of us have.

Am I wrong that I now have an Inspire and am debating coming back to the Captivate? Lmao, but I honestly miss the ese of the device. Never had to worry so much about charging my battery and honestly the screen was better then the Inspire. I don't know maybe it is just me but I am seriously considering it.
Yea a Captivate, running a custom ROM, is better than the Inspire 4G IMO.
Just like I thought, man sometimes I wonder why I got this phone to begin with. The 4G is a joke and I always seem to have an issue with my email with this damn phone. Captivate here I come............
I have seen so many threads of people wanting to know what to get next...they all seem to end up in the same place. STAY WITH THE CAPPY.
Samsung Captivate
ROM: Phoenix Ultimate
Kernel: SuckerPunch-Voodoo #11
Modem: UGJL2
I agree man, I should have just stayed with it. It is one bad ass phone with so much dev support it's amazing. Well it has it's flaws of course but what phone doesn't. Oh well, I have learned my lesson I suppose.
It's easy to get in the 'grass is greener' state of mind. Fact is, there are some amazing phones available, and future is bright. As for now, Captivate is a nice play ground. If it weren't for all the great chef's in the cappy kitchen, my eyes would wonder too
I tried the inspire as well as the atrix and am back to using my captivate.
Neither of the other 2 in my opinion come close to the captivate. I hope att picks up their game soon with some great phones. I don't know how long my cappy will last but I plan on keeping it until it dies. Even after I buy another phone.

I got an Inspire and it has fewer issues... Do you use the GPS? I prefer the Inspire just for the reason that I can not get lost... Something worth considering if you're gonna go back.
there are reasons the the captivate is still more expensive than the inspire in many places and i dont think it is because they want to kill sales for samsung.
the inspire has a great camera, way better than htc's past attemps at 8mp, but the captivate camera aint too shabby. not as great as taking pictures of text but not bad either.
the cappy has a great screen for video and games and photos, not the greatest with small text but it's ok with me. it also makes great calls, a problem with many smart phones is that they are not great at being phones. the cappy is definately different in that area. also the hummingbird is a monster when it comes to video and graphics, and with gingerbread it is a monster all around.
all the inspire has on the cappy is the huge screen, camera flash, more ram, and hsdpa+ but no hsupa yet. so not totally an advantage. by the time att can provide hspa+ to an extent that it is worth having there will be way better phones out.
the cappy has an advantage in graphics processing, maybe speed(depends on whcih benchmark you believe) rich colors, high contrast ratio, scratch resistant screen, great phone calls, battery life especially if you have a custom rom, thinner more pocketable profile, better constuction(matter of oppinion but i think most would agree if they looked inside both) and the coolness factor that nobody knows what it is. it's like being part of a secret club.
I loved my cappy I was just tired of have to flash constantly for performance, maybe the infuse will be better. But then again its samsung

I've had a couple of HTC phones, but every one of them had horrible in-call volume issues... and that, when it all comes down to it, is what a phone is for, after all. I actually exchanged my first Aria in the hope that it would be better, but no go. Granted, the Captivate has it's issues (I wish the camera had a flash), but the work the devs have done to make it a better phone are amazing. And being able to tinker with it satisfies my geeklet yearnings.
I wouldn't trade my Cappy for anything out there at the moment.
I had the Inspire and have only one complaint, I couldnt find the auto answer, so I gave it to my wife, nothing wrong with it its a great phone in 6 months I may revisit it after the devs have lots of roms to flash, lol

Hey guys, i am currently interested in getting the g2x to dev on. I dev for the Moto defy since the day it came out and have plenty of roms. Now my question is how are you guys experience with this device? I've read some complaints of tons of reboot and back light leak, poor signal..etc.. Any comments would be much appreciated, looking forward to getting this phone
Very good device. Some have backlight bleed but only really noticeable in the dark and when looking at it on an angle.
I haven't had any reboots recently but once when i got a call and after hung up it just died and had to pull battery.
Main problem seems to be that Nvidia's lack of sources for A2DP functionality for stereo bluetooth and that 2.3.3 is on froyo kernel so further updates with custom roms would be difficult.
thanks for the reply, how are the roms? Any problems with current roms ?

In all honesty, CM7 works perfectly even with the lack of a2dp support. 2.3.3 OTA based roms (namely Weapon G2x) works just as well if you want that close to stock feel with more features. MIUI has all the same problems CM7 does since they run off the same kernel.
I've never had any issues with reboots, and if people do it's probably because of rogue apps running in the background. I never had a reboot because I like keeping my app drawer as minimal as possible At least, that is my theory
I love my g2x..just checked the sgs2 but not really into that much, my g2x on Cm7 was faster... The roms are good, I do agree with the lack of tegra support but Meh. Love it..please get one and welcome..
I love my phone.
Excellent performance, excellent display, and excellent battery life. I'm on my 3rd one, but that was because my first one kept locking up, and my 2nd replacement came damaged.
I love this phone, and I wouldn't want to replace it with anything else until the Nexus Prime. ^_^
Absolutely zero problems, love this phone so much. One of the best parts is the glass. It's curved, which makes unlocking it feel really good , and the glass feels really thick and solid. Also NO scratches, coming from an iphone all these things are huge. Loving it.
I feel like this phone can stay up to date with most of the devices coming out right now... On Android, you don't actually need 1GB of RAM... Heck, 512MB is more than enough! I'm gonna hold out until the quad core phones start coming in... If the Nexus Prime is still a dual core, I won't even bother.
I got 99 experiences but a reboot ain't one.
My 1st G2x is running good.
no reboots, no reception issues.
runs great and my app drawer always has at least 200 apps.
lol
I haven't started deving /theming on it yet.
Thanks everyone for you input! Just placed the order for it and cant wait to get. Never dev for any other devices besides moto , so im looking forward to this.

This is a great phone. For those of us that have had no problems, the intended impact of the device is evident.
However, you cannot ignore what a lot of people went through. for many, the g2x experience was the worst possible.
LG and T-Mobile appear to have let the phone fade away. Even though its for sale, and can be had for cheap, it no longer appears in comparison with other good phones on the market today. Check the reviews out their today...cnet, etc....The powers that be have let it fade away.
Even DEVs appear to have moved on. Many of the people here a few months ago have moved to other devices. Even saying that, there are some real good ROMs out there...just less people deving them.
In all honesty I have to say, this phone is the best phone I've owned. But in that same honesty, I'd have to say, you may want to consider something else. Even the Sensation is now getting far more press and exposure from T-Mobile than this beauty. There are TONs of ROMs available for the Sensation and some of the best DEVs from the android world are there.
I've recently considered the Bionic....but the VzW pricing plan is just too much. Minimum $100 a month to walk out with a Bionic.
I love the G2x. But if you want long term upgradabiity...you may wish to look elsewhere.
Just my opinion....

No. It just finds it. Maybe not on second one, but 10-20.
Also, I came to G2x from the Bold, which would die in a day with no usage under dead zones. That was a huge problem - I was forced to enable and disable airplane mode all around. The G2x is great in that matter.

I have noticed that a lot of problems happen under the stock ROM or roms based on the stock one.
Flashing something like CM7 or MIUI fixes a lot of problems.
Hey guys, I have a chance to switch out my MT4G for a G2x through insurance.
I know the spec difference, my only concern is how CM7 and MIUI run on the G2x?
CM7 and MIUI both run perfectly on the MT4G, so was worried that it won't be as good on the G2x.
Main concerns are if it has any GPS and or.wifi problems?
Anyways, any response would be greatly appreciated!

Both of those ROM's work and run awesome on the G2x. Although if you were to flash a ROM, i would definitely go with CM7. MiUi still has its problems....CM7 on the other hand, is very close to perfection!
Although, all phones are different...some could have running problems and some never do. I guess this what i like most about my G2x, i learn something new about the phone everyday. Lol.
But this phone is virtually, BULLETPROOF. (just like a 4G63 or 4B11 )

Kinda...some phones might be worst than others. Other know Hardware problems are the Random reboots and freezes. But a custom ROM should be able to fix any hardware imperfection.
i went from a mt4g to a g2x through insurance too and its the best decision i ever made it only has 1 issue, screen bleeding but it doesnt make a difference at all unless you put full brightness in a dark room thats when youll notice it or when you look from an angle and i only use miui for the g2x its perfect

A few phones from the earlier batches (including mine, which has now been replaced with insurance... damn tile floors) had issues with the HDMI out causing the battery to short out when you plugged in an HDMI cable. The most logical explanation was bad soldering, but the issue was never common enough to make it to T-Mo's known issues.
Several people's phones got fried (there's a really old thread about it in this forum I believe), while in mine I just had to get a new battery. Doubt it would be an issue, but you can never know too little.
Okay, a friend wants to buy my Vibrant from me and I am actually happy with it except for lack of any decent options to move from 2.2.x without losing battery life/gps (that's a different forum's discussion)..
So, I don't want to spend a LOT but I don't want a dog of a phone either. I have some specific questions on the G2X...
1) CM7/MIUI: Are they *100%* functional? As in, no "but" or "except" in the list. On the Vibrant, for example, on CM7, you get bad battery life, limping GPS and broken 911 calling. Is CM7 a viable option on the G2X for a daily driver? I am personally tired of seeing threads on various phones I've had in the past that said "100% functional" but when you get to using it, turns out it's not.
2) LG Support -vs- 3rd party. I am *not* asking if LG is going to release ICS. What I am asking is, will the dev community be dependent on LG's release to be able to properly support ICS in the future? Ie, again, on the Vibrant, CM7 is broken because Samsung never released a GB rom for the Vibrant and thus no kernel source. Is this going to be a problem on the G2X if LG doesn't release ICS?
I really don't want to spend the extra $100 it will cost me for a Sensation 4G.... I'm just not sure, basically, what to expect of 3rd party and specifically AOSP/CM7 support for the G2X in the future...
Input?
There will never be a perfect rom, ether gps, wifi, data, bluetooth, something will not work as it should, so if you want a "100% no buts, long lasting perfect phone" get one of the Motorola razr v3 or one of those flip phones from back then.
1. No ROM out for the G2x is perfect consider LG's work was far from perfect and what we have is much improved, but still a work in progress. Do we occasionally have APN issues (I never have, but as a community, yes) or sleep of deaths (Funny you mention, Sensation gets them too), yes but they're few and far between and there is work being done to fix them.
2. Because CM and a few others build straight from source, at this point it shouldn't matter if LG makes an ICS build or not. Maybe for a few things, like AD2P function, but otherwise, I'm not concerned.
I have a lot of friends who own Sensations, and I still think I made the better purchase in the G2x.
Hands up for g2x, friend have sensation, htc desirr, hd2.. 3 of us have rooted g2x with miui as last rom... all good

Besides the fact that I scratched the screen 2 days after I got it, and the ICS uncertainty, I do like it a lot. I especially like the price T-Mobile is running it at since I'm on the Value plan and had to pay full price.
It does seem that the modder community for this phone is a bit smaller than the Vibrant.

well, the mytouch 4g now has a almost completely fully functioning JB ROM and the g2x has a half-assed alpha test (sorry, EB team, not trying to belittle your work). grrrr. bout to go trade for a 4g slide. what really eats me, is that the G2x is a superior phone hardware wise to most phones even now. and definitively better than the mytouch. I feel the g2x community has fallen apart and due to that, there will never be a completely functional well.....anything. we should be all working together to iron out the wrinkles in JB not fighting over who developed what first or who can or cant use what code....I'm sorry, but who gives a flying f*** about the code when nothing since froyo has actually been 100% stable and functional on our devices?
im sorry, im just a bit meeved that i traded now. the reason why is in the specs of our phone:
http://geekaphone.com/compare/T-Mobile-G2x-vs-T-Mobile-myTouch-4G
and the state of our community as G2x owners:

I know I don't have a tablet, but when I need to read news, stream videos, read emails, do all sorts of things, the G2X is my go to device. Hands down CM7 is solid and stable. I do need to reboot it a couple of times a week but I'm not stressed about it.
I've not updated the BB mainly because of the ROMs needing a special modification, and lose access to all the previous ROMs.
I don't care really. I want to use the ICS ROMs but they have bugs. Again all the hate goes to LG. Devs do best they can with little they do have access to.
I have the Galaxy S2, Amaze, and G2X. Hands down, my go to device is my G2X when I am home and in WiFi range. Its faster and snappier. What a waste LG did. Even display is better than the Amaze. It really pisses me off that HTC went cheap on the Amaze's display.
I use the GS2 now because it's got a stable CM9, and honestly detested the Stock ROM. If G2X had a stable CM9 (Full Support with Drivers and everything) and the GPS issue was reliable, I swear I'd go back to my G2X as my main device.
As for reliability is concerned, GS2 and Amaze hands down. Again, pisses me off LG screwed this phone royally.

Using the old baseband I have been 100% stable since I first got the g2x... everything works perfectly (aside from slow gps but it still works)
HFP, CM7, and CM7.2 just to name a few have no bugs other than user error which as we all know can't be fixed (because you just can't fix stupid)
I do understand where your coming from however your "facts" are a little skewed.
Good luck with the coding, I hope you will be the next great Dev!

thats exactly what i was saying. this is the best phone i have ever owned hardware wise. Yes, this is mostly Nvidia & LG's fault, but its still frustrating. my fiancee just got the blaze and its ok. its pretty snappy, but when my G2x is on stock rom, it stomps it... no questions asked. and yeah, the GPS bug is what i was talking abot from pre v21y. also, it is really a pain in the a$$ just to figure out how to downgrade basebands, let alone actually do it. alas, the g2x is my daily driver so i need it to preform well and be stable. that means i need bluetooth calling, working GPS, MMS, all that.
Yeah... Can't argue with you there. The G2x is a POS. I traded my MT4G for this phone too, while I don't really regret it since I got more money once I sold the G2x, the MT4G was far more reliable and every ROM just worked on it.
Either way, it was a lesson learned to never buy another LG phone no matter what the specs are. Samsung and HTC is the way to go from now on. Or better yet, Nexus!

Disagree. Gingerbread 2.3.3 stunk on the G2x, and Nvidia's policy of keeping its drivers "closed-source" sucks!

Strongly agree! For $350, I know what I'd buy in a second if my G2x took a crap on me. Still, considering my 2 year contract came with a "free" G2x on each line nearly a year ago - I am not complaining. By the way, stock based 2.3.4 Gingerbread ROMs define stable for me (Thanks Kwes and Buru). However, I suppose I like a little instability in my life though since I married a woman?!? and use CM7 ROMs!?!:silly:
i've been seriously condsidering getting a loan and buying a nexus, than cancelling with t-mobile lol it'd probably be cheaper in the long run.
It's just a phone. If you want to be on the bleeding edge and have something to play around with just get a nexus 7.
I think a lot of people are just jealous that others get ics/jb and don't realize that it's not that big of a difference. g2x works great when I don't have my tablet.
