Good morning all!
Just picked up my Infinity last night at Best Buy to replace my lovely Prime, and am in the process of moving over here for all my help needs. For those that may or may not know me, I have maintained the ROM directory for the TF201 since February, and am volunteering for that same task here if people will have me.
Don't want to step on anyone's toes, but didn't see one here yet.
Cheers,
Peter

I'm already preparing an AIO guide for unlocking, rooting, recovery, etc so it would be great to have such a thread on roms/developement stuff .
i can only see this being helpful! assuming it will be regularly updated, it would be great of you to do it
philos64 started one but it hasn't been updated in quite a while.

Will do my best, usually was updating the old list about 2 times a week.

I have been playing around with my sweet new and rooted g-tablet for the last week, and I wanted to thank all the development for their hard work making this tablet scream.
It is a night and day difference between the stock firmware and the custom ROMs. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
+1000....great work folks!
Amen and Thanks from me as well!
I got my G Tablet during the Woot deal and had read how crappy it was until rooted. But I had no idea how many options and flavors I could have to "pimp out" my tablet until I dug into your forums and really tried to get the best out of it.
A big thanks to all the developers out there who work hard to make my tablet experience a good one!
I agree, thank you devs!!
Indeed. Thank you much.

............. +1
It's kind of funny... before the Woot deal I didn't own an Android device and had never fooled with one before.
I took the plunge with the gTab based on the excellent devs going on here at XDA. In my search for a smart phone which would work with the gTab, I got an HTC Aria. Now that I've rooted my Aria and installed a new ROM on it (thanks to XDA!), I'm ready to root my gTab and choose a new ROM for it.
See what y'all have gotten me into ????
But seriously, I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into development of these ROMs. Now that I've stuck my toe in the water I can see how much fun it is, too.
I will chime in with my support for the developers too. I have yet to flash my unit with a new ROM yet but looking forward to it.
Agreed - a BIG thank you to the developers who are making this device usable...
I agree the devs here are fantastic. Thank you so very much
Thank you devs. I just picked up a Gtab at lunch today and I can't wait to dive into rooting and flashing a custom rom on this.
The only 2 reason that make I choose G-tab is good price and XDA-DEVELOPERS support it. Thank you devs
+1 on the thanks. I likely won't be keeping mine, but the ROMs here are nothing short of excellent. Good work, gents
No Problems after update 4349
Because I read and heeded the messages from the devs, thanks.
i have had it Guy's i am going to attempt some hard core development on this thing but i will be requiring some help from step 1 to finish.
i will be basing My rom attempt on the stock build 3.2 but i will totally change it to the best on my abilities.
all i ask is that someone offers me some help and/or buy me a beer or 2 coz its gona be hard to get this going.
i am quite new to all this so some ideas of what u want wouldn't go a miss and/or help.
thanks all.
If you never built a ROM it will take some time. Will need Linux set up obviously. There is definetly a lot of help online. Think you may run into same issue as garyd, no wifi module source code.
Best of luck, were all dying for a single ROM.
I have a couple cool things planned in the next few days for our tab.
Cheers.
Moved to General because this isnt development... not yet anyway.
Also, check around, there are a lot of good threads/posts here to help start you off... a lot of them were started and created by Gary.

So guys I now have my SGS III, and I may be in and out for a while, and not giving 100% in here for a little while.
I have NOT gotten rid of the Atrix 2, and I still LOVE this device and will be working on it for a while.
In fact I have a treat for you guys. I will be uploading the system.img of my SGS III to my dropbox, I will link it here in the dev section when it is uploaded, so that any of our ROM devs in here can start porting it, over, I would hope...
By the way I am still finishing up the all in one script for every one, and it should be ready for testing later this week or over this weekend. It will be for a batch file for windows, a shell script for linux and mac users.
Bittersweet news... But, thank you for all of your pioneering work on the A2!! Hope we still see you around here now and again (though understandably less frequent). Also, thanks in advance for the sgs3 system.img!
And when you're relaxing in the metaphorical bathtub with your new Sammy, and you have that Archimedes moment with the A2 bootloader... do let us know, won't you? Until then, we'll keep up the good fight.
Indeed, Jim, you are very much a highly appreciated "resident expert" here on the ATRIX 2 side, but I fully I understand you're wanting to play with the new toy -and, admittedly, I am a bit envious of you! But, as alteredlikeness stated, we'll keep plugging away in your semi-absence.
You've been an invaluable resource for n00bs and developers and everyone in between, and for that I (we) thank you yet again for all you've done for us all!
Can't wait to hear back from you periodically, and wish you the best of luck with the SGS3 -I know you will enjoy tearing it apart and making the development of it nothing short of amazing!

Oh I am not going anywhere.... I am just focusing SOME of my dev efforts on this new device which is not even officially in stores until Thursday....
Heck 916x10, pre-ordered his at BB on 6-5 and he still does not have his yet, so....
I am still working on the A2, I have not dropped everything that i was working on, to just focus a short period on the SGS 3. I am just for the next several weeks to a month, going to make myself a little more scarce on this forum, while I get my new kernel(s) and CM9 fully up over there, for the SGS 3. I already have a pre-alpha version of CM9 and 2 different accelerated kernels that I am going to be testing this week.... The SGS 3 is just so easy to develop for.
There is still so much to be done over here, and there have been some great strides made with kexec by the CyanogenMod devs, and some of the guys I am working with over in the SGS3 forum. I want to look into some of this for my next hack over here, in a few weeks.
We have been honored to have your insight, talent and patience.
See you soon, God speed my good man!

Very nice. And I'm sure you'll open a lot of eyes over in the sgs3 forum..
I happened to pop in there today to see what they've (now you've) got going on over there as far as development, and I ran across one if your posts and noticed you got yourself root already while others are still struggling with that.
Also, a while ago I read somewhere that Samsung makes more "hacker friendly" Androids, so to speak - does that hold some sort of truth to it? If so, we should've kept my wife's Infuse (which we traded in for another A2)..

Yes that has always been true, they give cyanogen the first of each new phone for dev purposes. People say he is a sudo Samsung employee.
My captivate had root and roms and even cm5 after 3 weeks of release.

Jim,
I'll look forward to seeing you on these forums hopefully, from time to time. It's a ton of fun with you around, like some big bodyguard type, to keep the riff-raff out, and the regulars in shape.
If I'm ever in the Dallas area, I'll try to get in touch, maybe have a beer. I'm slow moving, but I'm still working on some of the big ideas I've had, with documentation, and some kind of system for matching junior assistants with senior developers, as a method of training, and creating efficiency in getting work done -- but I thought, maybe expand it out to all motorola devices, so that if the petition doesn't succeed, perhaps enough dev's working together can find strategies to circumvent the bootloader lockdown.
I'm looking forward to your script ;-)
Best Regards,
Paul

Hopefully tomorrow is the day :fingers-crossed: I hate BB and will never shop there again, except for when i'm trying to figure out what I want to buy off Amazon and need to see the item in person.
Hello everyone!
New here, been looking around, reading different things, and don't understand half of all of it. lol, sorry. I'm not familiar with all the different rooting, techniological specs of it. But I do know that this tablet is supposed to be the best on the market. I have a neighbor who is big into android and told me a lot and rooted my Gnex and I fell in love. Had an iPhone, but no where near what I could do with android.
I'm just trying to get a feel for it, and wondering what I can do to make it better, any apps or games that I need?
I got it from Best Buy, and wasn't sure how the return policy works. I know it's like 30 days, but how many exchanges?
There is a little bit of light bleed, but as far as I know, that is all that is wrong. No cracks, no wireless problems, etc.
Anything I need to look for to know if I should return it?
Jelly Bean is coming soon and I'm excited. Project butter is definitely nice.
I want to thank you all in advance for all your help. From what I've read on here, and all over the forums, you guys know your stuff.
I you pan to return it I'd perform a factory reset on it prior to returning it so no personal information is on the tablet.

Welcome on-board!
I'm new myself (relatively) I was never really fascinated with android beyond sharing my wife's Acer tablet.
I didn't want to mess her's up so I bought an Infinity for me.
Joining this board has really made an android junkie out of me.
The knowledge and questions brought from every corner of thought here are just unending.
I always know the answer is here somewhere.
Here's to hoping you'll have great luck with the Asus...

I've been loving my tablet so far... wondering if I should root now, or wait until the Jelly Bean update? But as you've said, this forum has made me an Android junkie.
I had to show my support by purchasing their app a couple years ago. Hopefully one day I can contribute a little more to the forums, but for now I'll just read and follow instructions until I learn a little more about developing

Honestly I'd just wait for Jelly Bean, it's only a few days away. That said, i don't think just rooting will stop the OTA (from what I've read).

FYI - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508265 - someone already asked.
Here is the activity on his github: https://github.com/timduru?tab=activity
Looks like he has not touched it in a few days, but remember he has a life outside of being a developer and that takes priority. He does it because he wants to. I guarantee the donations he makes are not enough to justify his time. I have made a few donations to him over the past year to help keep him motivated.
In the mean time, 4.3.1 with multi-window is good enough for me even if that is where he decides to stop.
