rooting mz600 - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been searching for hours for the universal xoom root file with no luck. Now my brain is numb. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I am on Android 4.0.4. wanting to upgrade to jelly bean.

When I go to that post and click the link, The "file is not found"....anyone else having this problem?

Your Xoom is 3g Verizon version, stingray cdma. Just unlock boot loader, flash recovery IMG thru adb, thru which you can flash a pre rooted ROM from team eos

goo.im has been flaky since they started doing site maintenance this weekend. I have not been able to get any files off goo since last Thursday.
Since you want to go to JB anyway, you could pull the stingray_cdma nightly from jenkins and flash it.
http://jenkins.teameos.org/job/stingray_cdma/101/artifact/out/EOS-stingray_cdma-20120814-101.zip
That link seems to be working even though it goes to goo.im for the download.

Up and running rooted. Thanks a bunch for the help!

ICS update fail

Hey guys,
Tried installing ICS with my rooted ATRIX2. It failed so I did some reading found out you had to unroot to update. Went back unrooted and still the update fails. I rooted with casual public beta. Unrooted using the one click method. No idea how to flash my phone to a different rom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to update and root again.

So you was rooted on 2.3.6 right?
If so you need to just fxz back to gb 2.3.6, and then try the ota. But beware, the ota has no fxz to save you in case of a screw up.
Fxz found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32113181
Explanation on how to fxz here:

Also this should be in Q&A

Even if you have unrooted, if you deleted any of the stock apps, or still have a custom recovery set up at boot, then the update won't work. Like previously stated, you need to FXZ back to completely stock gingerbread, then run the update. I had the same issue.

Delete the files that installed by bootstrap recovery app if you have installed it before.

Alright thanks guys. And yes I was rooted on 2.3.6. Now should I remove my micro SD when I downgrade?

question about update to ICS
Noticed a lot of people having problems with Battery( not charging) going dead quickly due to media files. any comments would be helpful and Thanks.
Ok i followed all the steps loaded my phone into fastboot flash, installed the drivers, download rsd lite 5.7, and I cant get RSD Lite to recognize my phone. I uninstalled and re installed the necessary drivers and still nothing. I also noticed when picking a file in RSD Lite when I go to select a file there are two. (edison-user 2.3.6 5.5.1-175_EDMR1.25 5.51.175.25 release-keys2011-11-16 23:52 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1D7_PATCH_36_111116_2336 crh1090280_M570_PC_CARD_RAIN) or (ndp). I am assuming that I need to flash the first file.
Any help on where I went wrong or why it isnt recognizing my phone would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I am a noob to modding phones. I promise I learn quickly and appreciate your patience.

[Q] Questions about the new Jelly Bean update

I would post this under development, but I need 10 posts to do that. So I hope someone will look here to help me out.
So I got the new update yesterday. I have nothing against the stock rom, But it broke my tethering app. I found a way to root my S3. [GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean OTA ***UPDATED*** - xda-developers
No problem there. I was looking to install a version of Paranoid Android, But using Goomanager this was not an available rom. (Is there one for the S3) I tried a few other roms and they all looked kind of chunky to me. A few had a flicker effect when you went to the home screen (aokp milestone 1 and bean)
Well now i went the route of http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...-back-clean-factory-stock-update-10-23-a.html And I am back to Factory fresh rom with an unlocked boot loader. If I were to root the factory rom and leave it what would be the effects in the long run, and is there a costume factory rom (Jelly bean) that would solve my problem...
Thanks
Well first, this shouldn't be posted in development because you're nitty releasing anything. So this Is the right spot.
Second, I'm not sure what you're looking for under original development you'll find the AOKP for us. If you want stock jelly bean that logs like AOSP check out beans build 6

Well I guess I would have liked to post in the thread that had the information in the first place. The thread is where he explained the rooting procedure that was not working for me. All steps worked except the last one. So I have to try to ask my questions over here.
Second, Now that I am back to stock rom I just wanted to see if anyone could answer my question about rooting and leaving it...
Third... Is there a paranoid android available for S3
Gotcha! Guess I misunderstood where you wanted to post, my bad. Then rooting and leaving it is fine, no long term effect. I run stock rooted all the time...until I get bored. Also, here us the official AOKP

Thanks for the reply's So what you are saying is I can run stock root until there is another update and the worst that will happen is it will break my root?????
Like I said I like how stock functions, but it broke my tethering app. I am still on the unlimited data plan and spent 700.00 for the S3 so i could stay there. kind of a waste of cash now that Foxfi wont work. If I can root then I can use open garden.
If your into the programing part. When using oden to root what does this do..VRALEC.bootchain.tar and then they have you do this one at the end.VRBLK3_Bootchain.tar
If I get answers for these I do have one more that I will post later....
Thanks again

Yes you can stay stock rooted and if you use voodoo ota keeper you may even keep root after updates.
The reason you have to flash the old insecure boot chain is so you can unlock your boot loader and install recovery, so that you can then root. The only reason you flash the new one at the end is so that to your boot chain matches your ROM. The last party is optional, but it just makes since to have as much matching as possible.

That is great..now to my last question..(a few more like this and I can post directly to the guys thread)
When doing this step I am using TWRP.
Step 4 - Rooting Your Device and Unlocking Your Bootloader
Quote:
Using your custom recovery flash the download you chose above from Step 1 (#3)
Upon exiting your custom recovery to reboot first time, you will be asked if you want to "Disable recovery flash", you MUST select Yes
After reboot, your ROM will now be fully rooted, have a custom recovery, and/or your bootloader unlocked as well
after flashing SuperSU + Unlocked Bootloader I go to reboot but it does not ask about the Disabling of the recovery flash. Should I be worried or should I maybe flash back the Factory bootloader with ODEN after I am rooted??
Sadly, this seems to be the most active thread for Paranoid Android. Currently that thread's original Dev is MIA and the last build he made was based on 2.54 (current PA is 2.99). Another Dev ported 2.99 but people are reporting issues with it. I ran the 2.54 one for a couple of weeks and it wasn't terrible.

Thinking more and more that this is a Verizon issue. I have received it for the last 24hrs when trying to pull the JB update. Was able to pull the 6mb update just fine Sunday. Hearing the same from others, regardless of where they are in the downgrade -> root -> update process.

Have you tried contacting Verizon about the issue? I went the Moto route this morning, which was a complete waste of time.
Would it be possible to simply keep this stock rooted ics rom on stock rom slot of safe strap and then download jellybean roms and put them on the others?
Maybe no need to even take this ota updates that aren't working.

I tried this. It got me absolutely nowhere. My roommate went through this process Sunday with no problem, but for some reason as of Monday updating is not working
used RSD lite and flashed the latest JB. but obviously lost root.
Nice to be back on JB... but was hoping id keep root. Verizon needs to get their stuff together. unless someone else has a diferent method.
Did you have to have the 0.7.2 update to do that?

Same issue
I have been having the same issue. Bought a new Razr HD and have been trying to complete the downgrade/root/upgrade process since monday. Nothing I have tried has worked as far as downloading the 6mb update file, rooted or unrooted, WiFi or 4G. I have searched the internet high and low for this file, but no one seems to have it???
I also used RSDLite to flash back to 4.1.1 I did this from ICS via Razr HD Utility without the 6mb update no problems, but obviously lost root.
I hope this issue is resolved soon, because I'd really like to be on JB rooted.
Edit: I had to edit the 4.1.1 XML file removing lines containing "getvar" for it to flash. Full instructions can be had here on xda.
I am going to have to do that too. Thanks for the help. I'll search for the xml edit, not sure how to do that.

It's pretty simple. Heres how I did it.
Download VZW_XT926_4.1.1_9.8.1Q_39_VQW_CFC.xml.zip from droid-developers
Extract the file to your desktop (or wherever), find the .XML file in the folder and open it with notepad, or your editor of choice. IIRC there were two lines with "getvar" in it, just remove both of those lines completely and then save the file. Now boot into Fastboot, open RSDLite and connect your phone. Now load the XML file that you just edited and flash back to JB. Hope this helps.
If I do manage to find the 0.7.2 update file, I will certainly share but no luck so far.
Thanks again! I can't wait to get off work to do this. I'll let you know how it goes

If you have an AT&T branded phone, you'll need to flash the FXZ in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961310
For any other Atrix 2, you'll need to look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934874
If you don't know how to flash an FXZ, read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909319
As well as JRW 28's beginner's guide linked in the op of that ^ thread.
It is extremely important that you have the correct FXZ for your phone's model. Also thoroughly read up on what you are attempting to do to your phone to avoid (as much as possible) these types of issues.
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.
Thanks a ton...let the flashing begin

[ROOT] Straight Talk: Samsung Galaxy Centura

It's been successfully rooted with POOT.
It has also been rooted via CWM by Area51 Here for CWM and then Here for Root! I did find some ROM development going on at Area51 as well here. Area51's CWM does not appear to play nice with any phone rooted with Poot however so it's best to install CWM from Area51 first and then use their root method.

The root method used at A51 is out-of-date, and can't be updated. Therefore, you'll continuously receive an update notification and won't be able to stop it.

Not True! All you have to do is just not install the update when it boots you into CWM. This will be fixed when they complete the ROM they're working on. I don't get update reminders after accepting the first one and just not installing it once in recovery mode at the install screen!

You might want to wait for Area51 to complete their first ROM for the phone. Currently it has an annoying update that keeps trying to install over the rooted stock OS that will break root if you install it. Of course you can just keep clicking on accept and then selecting NO when you get to the install update screen in CWM like I do, but it's an annoyance.
