Added tethering to my unlimited plan, data stopped working - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys,
So, I decided to legally add tethering to my plan for $30 since I'm already up to 25 GB this month and I didn't want to lose my unlimited plan.
As soon as it was added, I lost my data. I can only text and call. I think this has something to do with my MDN/MIN being "unknown".
I am running CM10 and had no issues with data before this change.
I searched everywhere, but I can't find an answer to this.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
[[Update]] I rolled back to a previous backup that I made when I had it rooted/stock and the MDN/MIN came back, data works great again. I guess I'll just wait until the kinks get worked out for CM10. That Google Now hack makes it bearable for a bit.
~~Closing bug~~

[Q]Noob with no data connection

Story time...
I picked up a used infuse a few days ago and it came with S 7 on it. Everything works fine except for the mute first call issue, but I wanted to try a different rom. Flashed three different roms and I am unable to get a data connection with any of them.
I know I must be having a noob moment and I did a few searches and came up empty. What am I doing wrong?
You have to turn on packet-data(data enabled) settings/wireless/mobilenetworks
If that doesn't work, what ROMs did you flash? Might help in answering your question.
Yes I checked packet data.
And I tried cm7, Infused, and dlev.
restored S7 and I have data again, and there is nothing in vpn.

It might be an issue with your data plan. I had a Tilt 2 and have a grandfathered unlimited data plan. Wife upgraded to the Infuse and decided it is not for her. That is why I am using it. When I use my SIM in the Infuse, the phone function works but there was no data connection. WIFI would work but 3G data does not. I ended visiting an AT & T store to get it resolved. The folks at the store could not solve the issue and it was solved by someone they called. In short I was told that my data plan was for PDA (I once had Palm Treo). I would need to change my plan. I asked about “changing my plan” and was told I would lose my unlimited data plan. I told them “NO”. Even though, I only use about 2-3 GB per month, I do not want to lose my unlimited plan. Told them I have been with AT & T since they took over from L.A. Cellula and currently was at the end of my contract. The girl at the other end of the phone asked her supervisor and it was done. I got to keep my unlimited data plan.
I have no idea what is the difference between the plans but looking at my phone bill the old data plan is listed as GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM – DPPB. The new data plan is listed as GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM - HSDPPB.
The 2 year old SIM card was not replaced and it works fine in the new phone. You might need to visit AT & T store or call the Customer Service center.
Infuse needs a different data plan.....need to call AT&T...
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G - 1.6ghz
The data connection works fine on the S7 rom that it came with, just not an anything that I have put on it.
I have a data plan. I am moving to the infuse from a Backflip before that I had an Incite. All of them were modded, so I am not new to digging around in software. I do need a push in the correct direction form time to time.
I am on HSDPA now with UCK13
Well I've tried all of those on my phone and personally I think S7 is a fantastic rom CM7 and Dlev are great but are known to have data issues, if you've got data on S7, stick with it for now lol
Add miui to the list of roms without data connection. I also did a fresh flash of S7 and it is ok, nothing else will connect to data.
Should I flash a modem? That part is new to me I did not have that on the backflip.
Ok so after digging for a few days I figured it out.
I had to manually set APN for it to connect to data.
Does anyone know if it is like that because it is built off of a Rogers rom?

upgraded & able to still keep unlimited data in mid-Aug

hey guys
Just wanted to share that I recently upgraded my phone on 8/13 through Amazon (paid $150 for it). I had been using unlimited 3g data for the past 21 months.
During checkout, I clicked keep old messaging plans and 2 gb data, assuming I agreed to losing unlimited data.
However, when I finally activated my phone this week on 8/21, I was able to choose the UNLIMITED WEB AND EMAIL option.
I couldn't activate over the phone. Had go to go through myverizon backup on a computer, create online account, clicked Activate Device.
From there on, it gave me several options, one was "$29.99 unlimited data and web" and the other was "$30 2gb data." Of course I chose the unlimited option. So as of now, I still currently have unlimited data on Verizon with 4G LTE for the Samsung GS3.
Anybody else get unlimited data deal? I know there was a post about this in mid-July, but Verizon quickly fixed the glitch or whatever.
p.s. Sorry I wasn't thinking on the spot and did not save any screenshots when activating the device on my laptop
I kept mine, but I pre-ordered the phone before they were even out.
My only suggestion is to keep an eye on your bill before you go completely hog wild with the data. I heard of there being all impressions of keeping the unlimited but then when the bill came/shortly after activation the seemingly glitch "fixed" itself and the person was in fact on a 2gb/month plan.

I can say I upgraded last month, and also got to keep my unlimited. Was kind of weird, because I upgraded in store, knowing that I was going to have to give up my unlimited. And me and the rep even talked about how I was going to be giving up unlimited and going to the 2GB data plan, and he put it through and everything. Got home and logged into my account and somehow still had unlimited data. Looked at my receipt that had my new contract written on it, and it also said Unlimited Data on it. Let it go for a few days thinking maybe it was something with their system and to this day still have unlimited data. So not quite sure what the problem is, but oh well, works out in our favor, lol.

[Q] Just got a text from AT&T forcing me to a tethered plan, any way to fight this?

I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, so it's something I'd like to keep. I just got a Galaxy SIII and I installed Cyanogenmod 10 on it, and probably tried the tether feature twice, but I just got this text from AT&T
"AT&T Free Msg: We've noticed you're continuing to enjoy the tethering feature with your smartphone. Your plan has been updated to a tethering plan and you'll soon see this change reflected on an upcoming billing statement. Visit att.com/dataplans or call 866-975-0002."
Can they do this? I don't want to lose my unlimited data and I didn't even tether much >_>

They can do this. They created tethering plans for the exact situation you're in. Don't tether at all. If you're plan changes, call, complain and see if they can give you a discount
Okay, just called and they said it was from previous months (when I still had my jailbroken iPhone), the guy on the phone said if I can verify what I was doing then he can reverse my plan....but I obviously can't tell him straight up that I used a tethering app, anyone ever argue their way out of this?

[Q] Smartphone without data plan (not what you guys think)

This isn't asking about it. I know AT&T's rules which is why I posted this. I just figured I would ask this one because I can't find a story like it. I got my girlfriend a GS2 and she had a non-smartphone unlimited data plan. Her and I knew this would add a minimum smartphone plan for 300mb via AT&T and accepted it. She got a text the day about it being added after I put the sim in and it told her a data plan would be added. She used the phone while awaiting the bill to come to her mom before she told her about having a different phone (as she was going to pay for the data difference once her mom found out). About a week ago, her data turned off, but her sim remains in the phone and just doesn't allow internet unless she is on wifi. Is it possible that AT&T turned off data? I'm sure that if her mom got the bill and didn't know, she may have called AT&T to tell them to take it off because her daughter doesn't have a smartphone. I've never heard of this before. It isn't a problem because she would have rather had it this way anyway, but we didn't expect it to happen like this. Anyone else have an idea of whats going? She is running task650's JB 4.1.1 and the phone is was unlocked by me. This is just out of curiosity because as I said before, she would have done this if she could, but we all know that data plans are required on non smartphones.

rom safe with Flashed phone?

I'm using a phone I bought that is flashed to let me use it on the Verizon 35$ plan. Got this phone off a friend, still not sure if I can duplicate the flash so... It let's me have unlimited data, text, and 500 minutes for 35$ a month. Usually you pay 50$ for smartphones on verizon pre-paid. Anyways, I also have data that I keep even if my plan goes out. This doesn't seem to work with tethering, only data that works when I tether seems to be when I have my plan active. I found that strange.
I am curious exactly if I can rom with this flash and not mess it up? If I can do this what would be suggested roms?
Where would I go to look into what exactly this flash process is? I've tried google but I am not finding exactly what type of "hack" was used on this phone..
