kernel - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I have read about kernel for a while.
The phone I have is Verizon Samsung Galaxy s3 I535 with Darkhorse them SynergyRom 1.7 installed. I do not install Kernel yet. I read lot of forums and quite not sure which kernel to install into SynergyRom 1.7. Don't want to have kernel mixed up causing bricks. Have Nandroid backup two back up one on phone and one on pc. I have read this Kernel requires busybox and ez recovery?
I await your reply.
Thanks in advanced!

I am using Imoseyon BETA leanKernel on Synergy 1.7. Use EZ Recovery to flash CWM 6.0.1.0. You do need to have Busybox installed. Let us know how it goes!
Your phone will look like it's turning on 2x every time you turn it on/reboot. I believe this is just kexec doing its thing.

The last time I used invisibleks v2 it did not auto reboot? You had to reflash on each boot in recovery..has it since been updated?

I have not had any problems with needing to reflash it I always just reboot recovery and it loads the kernel but does not go into an actual recovery since it is hybrid

Works as charm! Was scared first but it went well! If I want to install different rom will have to flash stock kernel before flashing different roms?
Thanks!

Nope! When I flash new versions of Synergy my kernel goes back to stock. Just remember if you chose Imoseyon's kernel from my link above that it is only for TouchWiz roms.
He has posted an AOSP version over on rootz as well.

+1 I flashed this kernal last night and so far have seen a huge improvement in battery life (not that it was bad in the first place). Overall it seems snappier as well.

[Kernel] FluffKernel Epic 4G version 1.0.5 Rom Manager Compatiable

Here the the first offical release of Fluff Kernel for the Epic 4G
Ok here are two new versions for you all.One is the performance kernel and the other is the battery saver. Both are using the new version of my initramfs that comes with ChainsDD's Superuser.apk and su binary. So i suggest if you have Superuser.apk installed to uninstall it before flashing either of these kernels since Superuser.apk will be installed in /system/app instead of /data/app.And now for the kernels. Both of these kernels are Rom Manager compatiable and have root in them.
This is the battery saving kernel.Changes to it are:
Both Kernels are updated to DI18 sourcecode.
CPU governor set to userspace you can use SetCPU to set the speed of the kernel if you like although SetCPU seems a bit unstable on anything other then conservative.
Default scheduler set to CFQ
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5B.zip
This is the performance kernel.Changes to it are:
CPU governor set to performance your cpu will always be set to max this gives the best numbers in linpack and quadrant if numbers are you thing.
Default scheduler is set to CFQ.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5P.zip
This is another battery saver kernel for those who don't want to mess with SetCPU is uses the conservative CPU governor that the overclocked kernels use.
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/skeeterslint/FluffKernel-Epic-V1.0.5C.zip
All kernels have been compiled against a toolchain that is stable on the newest OTA.And all kernels have been built with stock Samsung kernel source with no modifications to the source code all changes were to the .config file.

This zip can be flashed with ClockWorkMod or can be taken out of the zip and the zImage can put used as a replacement for the zImage in the one click root method although this kernel has root built into it.I recommend removing the JoeyKrim root method to not cuase and conflicts.
This kernel still has some Samsung bloat in it this will be stripped out as time goes on.I will also be trying out different combinations of CPU governors and schedulers to see which one performs the best.So please test it out and post your feedback.
Link to the stock samsung source that was used for these kernels.

All the b usybox applets to setup the the loop device should be there. But I have never tried to use them I will have to check the kernel config to see if the kernel is setup for it.

Skeeter this its the best kernel I have used on my phone to date, however one thing to note is that the version of busy box used in this kernel is not compatible with ti backup so the busy box that comes with ti back up needs to be used.

OK it was still broken but i promise its fixed now.The battery drain probably wasn't cuased by the kernel some people have had problems with android system running away and draining battery but it has nothing to do with the kernel they have flashed back to the stock kernel and still have had issues with battery drain and android system running away on them.

I wasn't implying that the drain was caused by the kernel, I was saying that my battery was draining because JuiceDefender wasn't able to disable the APN because my root access was broken. D/l-ing update now. Thanks again!

Kernels

Sent from my SCH-I500
The new OTB, shoudl be version 1.1b doesn't include a recovery in it, Now I did flash the one that had CWM3 in it from CWM2.5 and I didn't have any issues with it.
Now thats not to say you won't, so.
I'm running the new one without the recovery with it and its working just fine.
Alright the thing I wanted was bln, voodoo color and sound.

you need to download the respective apps from market just search for "voltage control" and "bln"... I've never used bln cuz I use noled but voltage control is really cool. Just don't choose to save as boot settings unless you are 1000% sure it's stable. The fascinate thread has a few posts with voltages to look at. My phone flakes out at anything over 1200mhz and will not even run 14-1600mhz without having to pull battery.

Mine will run 1300 no problem. Over that is gets iffy.

Just FYI - CWM3 would not be capable of flashing any of our flash packages as is, there is a script file located within META-INF in every flashable.zip that tells recovery how to apply the update files, since CWM3 uses edify vs. ammend scripting, our current one's are not compatible.
Phidelt has started converting the scripts (there would be 3, one for ROM flashing, Kernel flashing and Theme flashing.) However until CWM3 is used more (most people are still using the old scripts) we want to steer clear of CWM3. If you wanted that kernel (before the update which removed CWM3) you can use the SGS kernel flasher available from the market, to flash just the kernel from the .zip (it automatically picks it out)
If you do have CWM3, and want to flash something, you'll need to hop in IRC and ask around for the converted scripts - last I heard we had one complete (for ROM's) but I'm sure it wouldn't take long to get the other two converted if need be. Otherwise you'll need to revert back to the old CWM recovery.

Flashing kernals causes boot loops

I just got the Captivate yesterday and I'm in love with it. I've been modding my Backflip for a while and I'm fairly certain I know what I'm doing. I've been trying different ROMs and I've currently settled on a rooted stock 2.2 ROM.
I want to change my kernel though, so I put my phone in download mode and flashed the Galaxian kernel via Odin, it finished and then my phone started boot looping. So I one clicked it and tried again with SGS flasher, boot loop. One click restored, tried with CWM, boot loop.
I've also tried Talon, Speedmod, Setiron and a stock kernel with all 3 methods. Nothing will flash without boot looping.
That kernel is designed for reoriented i-9000 roms

It needs to be a true captivate 2.2 kernel a lot are i9000's you just need to read the op for whichever kernel you are looking at thoroughly. 90% of the time the dev states if its an i9000 kernel.
The speed mod kernel here, forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 SHOULD work just make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery after install and it should boot.

Yeah. You were trying to install a gingerbread kernel on a froyo ROM. That won't work.
Thanks guys! I think I downloaded the wrong version of SpeedMod the first time, it worked this time. Firstly I didn't know that the difference between i-9000 and i897 meant that much. Secondly, I'm not really sure how to read the kernel topics, they're confusing to say the least :S.
I'll learn sooner or later but thanks for your help everyone.

Yeah some are very confusing the biggest help Is to learn the difference in firmware revision codes. Most captivate roms/kernels begin with k. like kh3, kf1 that sort of thing and from what I remember j is for I9000 eg jv1 etc...

overclock cm9

So i just installed cm9, and my phone can only go to 1188mhz so how do i over clock because i know the sensation can go to 1.6
Install system tuner and try to raise the value. If not, install a kernel compatible with cm9 and u should be good.
On some of the early nightlies I was able to use faux123's 005b3 asop kernel and overclocked to 1.78. I only used it on a couple of the early nightlies. I tried flashing it a few days ago and got bootloops. I think that was on nightly 01, maybe 30.
Stock kernel works fine for me. Overclock will probably be available sometime down the road. Someone on cm9 dev thread is running faux's kernel now, apparently without problems. I guess YMMV, or maybe that should be MMMV.
Isn't there a kernel less than 1.78 like 1.67 or something. A 1.6 kernel should be ok and u don't need to turn it up to max.

For CM9, faux is the only one that maybe works as far as I know. There is a mod over in the dev forum that overclocks to 1.5, I think. Haven't tried it, so I can't verify.
cm9 was great, but it wasn't stable yet and couldn't be over clocked
so i tried aokp that wasn't as good the screen looked too small and spaced out, but yo ucould over clock. And unfortunately without me knowing my phone was backing up my apps, ON MY DATA, so i owe virgin about 200$ now =_= for using 70$
In the end i went back to arhd, do yo uguy have any recommendation.
Use faux kernel 005b3 it will over clock it to 1.728.and it is stable and will run great.I have been running it for 5 days no problem.

First make double sure the kernel is compatible with your rom and operating system and firmware . Then wipe cash.and dalvik cash, then flash like a rom. By downloading the Kernel to the root of your SD card and flash through recovery. I like 4 ext recovery. After wiping you install from SD card then reboot. Hope this helps.
Of course do the download first, then wipe, then flash
