[Q] Blaze 4G Modem in the UK? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

Hey guys,
Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I looked at the Blaze 4G thread in the Development forum and searched but didn't really find an answer / didn't wanna revive the thread so anyhow, two questions!
1. Some ROMs ask you to flash this after flashing the ROM. Is that for speed or is it because the stock radio / modem gets erased / doesn't work as well with the ROM? Sorry, I feel like this is a noob question but I'm asking because some ROMs have custom kernels (which I'm guessing replaces stock kernal? Or maybe you flash that separately?) so if the ROM asks you to flash radio, is it because it doesn't have radio and stock radio gets deleted / doesn't work?
2. If they tell you to flash the Blaze 4G modem just for speed (and the stock radio doesn't get removed / works just fine), is it worth flashing it when where I live doesn't have 4G capabilities (yet)? Like would it mess up the frequency or something / change it from GSM status to like CMDA or something? sorry, ANOTHER noob question, OT but I read somewhere in XDA that they had a radio (or something, I can't remember what sorry) that could unlock Droid 4 from CDMA to GSM or something so I'm worried that flashing this might make it not work in the UK frequency anymore / not really be worth flashing because it wouldn't affect speed much anyway?

Its useful for internet speed and range. Its 4G only, so this wouldn't be of use to you, sorry.

Thanks for the reply! So I'm guessing stock radio would work as normal? I'm thinking about flashing GOV3 and it said to flash Blaze 4G after flashing ROM so I wasn't sure if it was necessary or just a preference

No problem. Well in your case, 4G isn't supported so keeping the default stock modem is perferred, this will present less problems.

I'm using the blaze modem in romania and the signal strenght is better and the net speed also. So flash it not gonna brick your phone relax

Good feedback. For future reference, what network in Romania are you using? (I wasn't aware it increased signal strength on different carriers, but that's good to know!)

If it ain't broken don't try something that could break it?! Haha thanks for the info though if I'm having noticeable issues with stock radio, I'll look into flashing this!
How do I back up stock radio though? Not flash a version of the stock radio uploaded here, but the one that came with my phone? Ya'know ... just in case

Flash any ROM (I mean ANY) and it'll come back.

okay...its about time i find out.

why is it that every time i flash a rom, data speeds become complete crap? the apn fix didoes work for me. i don't see a reason why this should happen.
Normally each ROM will have a preferred radio. Make sure you are using the correct radio.

Its best to stick with factory. There has never been scientific proof that any other radio is better than factory.

OK I'm lost what rom do you have?
You also can't expect things to work honky dory if you're flashing a lot lol. Im on stock radio with cm7 and have also used miui and at one point android revolution. I've never had data speed issues.
What issues are you having exactly?

If you're saying the APN fix DOES work for you, the answer to your question is because almost all ROMs have the incorrect APN config for some markets.
I tried the APN "update" on the stock radio using CM7 but my upload speeds are still only around 300k. I'm wondering if the network is still behind here in Kansas City.

Indeed that may be the case. CM7 (as do most custom ROMs) already has the proper build.prop settings to allow 1.3 MB/s upload speeds, and you've already tried my APN changes. There are some threads claiming a few people have lost HSUPA from flashing radios, but I don't know if this situation applies to you.
If you want to confirm without a doubt whether or not your market is HSUPA enabled, try this if you're feeling adventurous. First, backup your current CM7 ROM in ROM Manager, then flash the updated rooted stock RUU that came out a few days ago at THIS thread. This method flashes the updated stock image through the bootloader (using the P98IMG.ZIP method), and it flashes a new radio to your phone. If your speeds stay the same then it's safe to say your market isn't HSUPA enabled yet. However, if your upload speeds improve vastly after doing this method, then just keep that new radio that the new RUU flashed to your phone, and restore your CM7 backup. After restoring CM7, flash the HTC-RIL file that matches the new radio (HTC-RIL 2.2.0079HM). You can find this RIL in this thread. Works like a charm, I've been running it for a couple of days now on CM7.0.2 stable. Battery life is very good too.
Awesome! Thanks Henry. I'll try it when I get back into town. One of my coworkers has the Inspire (100% stock). I'm going to ask her how her U/L speeds look after the update as well.
Give it 3-5 days, i used to think that too. Your new rom or radio has to get adjusted to each other. Its like a fine wine in most cases. if you flash a new rom it has to get adjusted to the radio vise versa. Its kinda like a new baby thier brains like a sponge soaks up info quickly. just give it time my freind spend a few days with each rom and radio combo you test and on the 3rd to 5th day, data, and kernal test your setup.

[RADIOS] Compiled List for i727R

Hey folks, I've been lurking a while and wanted to post a list of all the radios that have worked on my i727R (Rogers).
Some radios stolen from here in the T989 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426001
I've left the filenames intact, save the actual baseband version in front for better sorting.

To be honest, I was surprised the Blaze 4G worked at all, but it seems to be running nicely (and quickly) in ICS atm.

Is there something about this that I don't realize? I have flashed it (UCLC5), realized it was making everything lag like crazy, flashed in a different radio and it was fine. What am I missing?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25139907
I'm assuming that the OP meant to list UCALC4 not UCALC2, as UCALC4 is the modem from the 1st I727 ICS leak and UCALC2 does not appear to be a modem for any phone that I am aware of (though UCLC2 is an older ICS leaked modem for the I777 which is not compatible with this phone).
Also, the link for that one is actually a link to the UCLA3 modem again.

Whoops, ironically it was just the wrong link. The modem I installed and downloaded was called UCALC2, but it might have been mislabeled in the first place! I fixed the link.

Unconfirmed. I don't pay for LTE service since I only ever pass through a small LTE zone. When I pass through the zone, I seem to pick up LTE, but I can't confirm specific bands or LTE speeds.

Blaze supports those bands, but only at 4g speeds. Connectivity is considered good, but if u have access to consistent LTE u will be unable to take advantage of it. I recommend ucld2, comparable to UCLA3, testing for over a week, was running ucla3 on ics beforehand
is the fix needed for the bell note modem (its a gb modem) will find the link for it.
emmellst, where did you get the UCLD2 modem? This modem is more stable for me than seanzscreams. Thanks!
With seanz' modem, I would often lose internet connection and sms even though it shows I have signal. And I have to keep playing with *#2263# when I restart as I can't get LTE until then.
But with the modem you linked here, I get LTE right away after reboot and I haven't experienced the internet connection and sms issue.
I did compare the contents of the zip between yours and seanz' and there's a difference in the amss and mdm sizes.
Anyway, I was just curious and very thankful for your links.

[Q] is it possible to flash t989 roms to i727

ive been looking around in a lor of threads and was unsure
because some said that it works perfectly and others say that it will brick your phone
i realy want to get 4g or at least 3g on my phone because im running t mobile on skyrocket with staggaring edge
so this would realy help me out
and ive read something about a conversion kit or something you have to do
i was thinking of flashing the juggernaut 5 on my skyrocket but to scared that it will brick my phone thanx in advance if some one can help me
Yes you can flash T989 ROMs on I727, the steps are:
Flash ROM (T989)
Flash modem (T989)
Flash kernel (I727)

BeastMod5 (T989)
Faux Kernel (I727)

To utilize 4G speeds in my area, which radio should I use? I just flashed the skyrocket 2.3.6 radio and now the phone is freezing up with zero service.

Flashing radio after new rom installed?

Hi I have A Galaxy S2 i9210T and in the respective forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593061&page=40 i am advised to flash a radio after installing this new rom (Embryo 5.1) question being is that really necessary as my Wifi & Reception are okay, if i flash the wrong radio or something goes wrong, can that cause a brick?
Thanks in advance

Yes.
Always be careful when flashing a radio. If you flash a bad one, you'll have an expensive paperweight on hand.
If you're skeptical, look for or wait for feedback from other users who have flashed it.

It's not that scary
Remember your current radio, search for it and download to your PC and your phone. Now flash the one recommend by the Rom's developer. If there is something wrong, flash back the old one. There's still be a chance you brick your phone but it's really small.
Hey guys I didnt bother, sounds too risky,
got CM10 working on it finally, (doesnt require a new radio) Telstra/Samsung have been real slack, ICS was meant to be released like April i think of this year, still don't have it, so im pretty pleased with the devs for it and look forward to more CM builds
Please be more careful giving advice hungbi I have not found a radio for the 4g version of S2 its not that common. These are the specs of the radio and I found similar but don't wanna flash something that does not match it 100% and brick my phone

IF flashing a corrupt radio doesn't prevent the phone from accessing the bootloader, this is true.

If it works anything like my phone does, you can flash to ANY ROM you wish without changing the radio.
Only worry about flashing a new radio if your signal is horrible or drops.

T-Mobile+Skyrocket(stock)= what radio

Ok so i have an AT&T Skyrocket, rooted but other wise stock on t-mobile. The edge speeds are killing after a few days, I can't get another phone at this time and my skyrocket is in perfect shape. The phone is rooted but otherwise stock on GB, of all the threads I searched, none speak about using a stock ROM and kernal with a different radio? I am wary of bricking my phone and had asked for help from some one local but that was a no go. So I am going to try and flash the radio myself, if I can find one that works nicely with stock ROM and kernal?? I have read of people using the Blaze radio and the UVLG3 from a Tmo note, I can't for the life of me find the thread though. But none talk about stock ROM and or kernal, any help would be great
Edit 1: will this radio work on GB? Blaze_4G_LB7_ICS_Radio_MOD ...... Direct DL, CAN BE USED FOR T-MOBILE/WIND ON ICS
Radios are a different piece of firmware and are not affected by ROM or kernel so as long as the radio is compatible and your APN is correct it will work no matter the ROM
