okay...its about time i find out. - HTC Inspire 4G

why is it that every time i flash a rom, data speeds become complete crap? the apn fix didoes work for me. i don't see a reason why this should happen.

Normally each ROM will have a preferred radio. Make sure you are using the correct radio.

Its best to stick with factory. There has never been scientific proof that any other radio is better than factory.

OK I'm lost what rom do you have?
You also can't expect things to work honky dory if you're flashing a lot lol. Im on stock radio with cm7 and have also used miui and at one point android revolution. I've never had data speed issues.
What issues are you having exactly?

If you're saying the APN fix DOES work for you, the answer to your question is because almost all ROMs have the incorrect APN config for some markets.

I tried the APN "update" on the stock radio using CM7 but my upload speeds are still only around 300k. I'm wondering if the network is still behind here in Kansas City.

Indeed that may be the case. CM7 (as do most custom ROMs) already has the proper build.prop settings to allow 1.3 MB/s upload speeds, and you've already tried my APN changes. There are some threads claiming a few people have lost HSUPA from flashing radios, but I don't know if this situation applies to you.
If you want to confirm without a doubt whether or not your market is HSUPA enabled, try this if you're feeling adventurous. First, backup your current CM7 ROM in ROM Manager, then flash the updated rooted stock RUU that came out a few days ago at THIS thread. This method flashes the updated stock image through the bootloader (using the P98IMG.ZIP method), and it flashes a new radio to your phone. If your speeds stay the same then it's safe to say your market isn't HSUPA enabled yet. However, if your upload speeds improve vastly after doing this method, then just keep that new radio that the new RUU flashed to your phone, and restore your CM7 backup. After restoring CM7, flash the HTC-RIL file that matches the new radio (HTC-RIL 2.2.0079HM). You can find this RIL in this thread. Works like a charm, I've been running it for a couple of days now on CM7.0.2 stable. Battery life is very good too.

Awesome! Thanks Henry. I'll try it when I get back into town. One of my coworkers has the Inspire (100% stock). I'm going to ask her how her U/L speeds look after the update as well.

Give it 3-5 days, i used to think that too. Your new rom or radio has to get adjusted to each other. Its like a fine wine in most cases. if you flash a new rom it has to get adjusted to the radio vise versa. Its kinda like a new baby thier brains like a sponge soaks up info quickly. just give it time my freind spend a few days with each rom and radio combo you test and on the 3rd to 5th day, data, and kernal test your setup.

[Radio][28th November 2010] 2.42.02.10.29 Sprint CDMA Hero

Ok, so for those of you who are wondering where to find the new Sprint CDMA HTC Hero radio, here it is This is for Sprint users on any rom; however if you're using Firerat's, it will not be as simple as flashing the radio. For those of you running Firerat's, either follow these instructions to flash the radio or see this thread. For those of you NOT running Firerat's, here are the steps to flash:
Download the radio and place on the root of your sd card
Choose "install zip from sd card" in recovery
Select the radio
It should flash, and then ask you to reboot the phone via the menu.
Select "reboot phone" from the recovery menu
The phone should reboot, with a big box and android showing
The phone will then go back to recovey, and say "Formating Cache..."
Wait about 5 seconds, and then reboot!
You're done then, new radio should be flashed! Let me know if you need anything or want to express thanks!
Thanks to Nfinite for the radio pull, here's the MD5 for it: F15CF77B1C08CFB1F357E2574F386F5F

Did not seem to impact signal so far, though I've only tried laying here in bed. I'll report back after work Monday, as that is always the major radio killer spot for me.
Side note: could be a placebo, but data does ' seem' snappier. I'll report back Monday and hopefully have more answers.
At least as good, if not better so THANKS!!!

No noticeable difference as of yet, but we'll see once I get home how it fares.
Since I use firerats and that method seems daunting, any potential issues with just staying with the old radio? I am due a new phone in Feb and just thinking it might be 'easier' to just stick with the old...also, does anyone know if the PRL is still 60671 or has that been updated also?
Will this work on various software build versions of the stock (rooted) Sprint Hero? Just asking because I didn't upgrade to the latest OTA so I'm still running 2.31.651.7.

Yes it will work.It won't change from custom rom to custom rom.Only if you flash a different radio or if your service provider changes it in a update.(Impaler or anybody if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.)

That's a rom issue, not a radio issue. I'd flash deca's 691 capped CFS kernel; that should fix it

if you ran my rom with no issues then you flashed this winzipped radio and have issues now that most likely is not a problem caused by the rom

No signal while using CM7

Having a major problem. I just installed CM7 but did not get a working signal, just got "searching for service". Before installing I was using a Sense ROM and it was working 100%- but I do remember switching off LTE when I was on the ROM and I never changed it back to on.
So anyway, I also flashed a radio via hboot and same thing.
Is there a certain radio I should be flashing?
When I go to settings I just get Unknown for the baseband version. Is this normal..? Should I have done something that maybe I missed?
let me know, right now I'm without a signal.. so no texts or phone calls.. pretty bad
Which version of CM7 are you on? If you are on RC1.3 then you need an MR2 radio. I'd suggest the radio from the OTA located HERE.
Yes the latest RC1.3
Okay thanks I will try this out, things are REALLY jumbled here.. I've checked out like 4 different radio threads.
Will let you know if it works

Yeah now that you are on this radio you can flash the vast majority of ROMs and ALL GB ROMs for the TBolt without changing the radio.
Also pay no attention to the idiot cussing you out for asking a question in the CM7 thread.
Thanks man, works great.
No problem! Glad you got it up and running!!
Is there any advantage to putting the MR2 radio above on a stock rooted TB?

I would use it solely because that's the radio that VzW tested and I would think it works best hence why they released it.

[Q] No net access after root (DNS issue?)

I've tried to root my ATT HTC Inspire a couple of times over the last few week - I always end up w/ the same issue.
Using the XDA Hack Kit 2.3, the process proceeds smoothly . . goldcard, check. down grade, check. after the downgrade I can run setup and have full network access, etc.
But when the S-off / sound fix install step is completed, I am unable to secure access to the internet, period. In set-up, I get an "unable to determine your region" message for HTC sense. I can not set up google services because "the server fails to respond" ... I *can* connect to my WiFi network no problem. I can make calls, but every website I try to access is "not found".
I've tried a number of different radios, all give me the same problem. I'm tempted to say it's some type of DNS error (looks like the symptoms of one, anyway) but I'm not familiar enough w/ Android to know if that's a good guess.
SO I've returned to stock today for the 4th time. Any ideas? I don't see this issue posted anywhere . . if it is, just point me in the right direction, and I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
i swear this has been covered a hundred times....hell, i have read it 20 times this week....
you are on the downgrade rom, it doesnt work, and isnt meant to be used as a daily driver.
INSTALL A CUSTOM ROM
Read above - - several custom ROMs installed, net access does not come back.
{this is what "I've tried a number of different radios, all give me the same problem." would mean}
Including, Stock ATT, ATT OTA update, Cyano, etc.
Thanks, though, for your quick read and assumptions. Speed isn't quite a substitute for useful advice.

good goin there sparky
@timpilcher, hey just happened by this post and thought I could lend a hand. I'm from evo 4g forums.
However, ROM's and radios are two different items. What it sounds like you need to do is flash a custom ROM, and then upgrade your radios. I am sure there is a thread for that within your section that contains the updated radios. These have to do with the actual signal of you're phone, where the ROM is just the interface.

Thank you.
Yes, I guess I was confused. The radio files are named "rom.zip" in the install procedure, and they are placed in the "rom.zip" directory in order to be installed w/ the XDA cmnd script. I'm familiar w/ flashing custom ROMs in PCs, but I've never had need to mess w/ a phone before.
So, yeah, I found it confusing. Thanks for clearing it up.

Connection problems with SUPERLITE CM10 JB4.1.2 RoM

I recently flashed to Vincom's SUPERLITE CM10 JB4.1.2 RoM | V8.0.
Ive gotten things up and running pretty well, but there is one major issue I seem to be having. My phone is not consistently able to connect to data on AT&T. I am frequently losing my data connections in locations where I have always had them in the past.
I searched around on his developer thread but didnt see an answer. I saw a reference to APNs for AT&T, but his note says these should now be included in the ROM I flashed, so Im not sure if I am missing something.
Anyone know if this is a common problem or how I can troubleshoot it and get up and running again?
Thanks.
Haven't heard of this being a problem. What modem (baseband) are you on? You can find it in settins, about phone.
Also, in settings wireless, more, mobile networks, Check that the access point name is on att LTE

Its gotten worse. Ive spent the last 5 hours with almost zero data access.
I see baseband version i727UCLI3.
Access Point name was was set to ATT wap, cingular. I switched it to ATT LTE (pta)...should this fix it? Any idea why this would have happened? Will I need to keep checking this or was it just something from the ROM flash?

Vipers ROM and data speed

I'm new to this rooting business and after a slow start I managed to Root and flash my first ROM at the weekend. I used Vipers 1.6.3 which, after some research, I gather is a pretty old version. I'm still impressed though even if it is some of their older work but the one issue I've been having is with my mobile data speed. I haven't been getting anything above E/G speed wise and I've found it quite frustrating. I'm gonig to update to version 3.1.4. when I get back home but do you think this will resolve the issue? Is there a setting or something that I need to be aware of that controls maximum data speed.
Sorry if this is a complete noob question but I'm doing my best with searches and guides but I'm not finding anything particulary helpful.

OK would the latest radio's not have been included inthe zip files then?
I was going to download the rom from this thread..

I can't see any information about radio's in there. It does mention about ICS non compatible kernals. This is confusing me further. How do I know what kernal I'm currently on. Once again.....sorry for the noobness but after the drama I've had just getting this far I'm nervous about messing it up.

Hey,
Did you try a full wipe so you know for sure it's not the problem of the rom, just make a nandroid backup in your recovery(4ext recovery is higly recommended)
Also another trick,
As you know the back of the sensation is also the antenna...
You can try to gently clean the gold spots.
About the radio take a look at here it says when you have the wrong radio it can cause bad reception so it can be the problem.!

try preferring cdma in quick settings
For me that did the trick, but now that i updated to 3.1.4 this option seems to be missing, so maybe obsolete and handled automatically as i have no issues without it.
