Ok, so for those of you who are wondering where to find the new Sprint CDMA HTC Hero radio, here it is This is for Sprint users on any rom; however if you're using Firerat's, it will not be as simple as flashing the radio. For those of you running Firerat's, either follow these instructions to flash the radio or see this thread. For those of you NOT running Firerat's, here are the steps to flash:
Download the radio and place on the root of your sd card
Choose "install zip from sd card" in recovery
Select the radio
It should flash, and then ask you to reboot the phone via the menu.
Select "reboot phone" from the recovery menu
The phone should reboot, with a big box and android showing
The phone will then go back to recovey, and say "Formating Cache..."
Wait about 5 seconds, and then reboot!
You're done then, new radio should be flashed! Let me know if you need anything or want to express thanks!
Thanks to Nfinite for the radio pull, here's the MD5 for it: F15CF77B1C08CFB1F357E2574F386F5F
Thanks for this. I revamped my HBOOT thread and included a link to here to encourage people to use this method whenever possible.

You both are so awesome, thank you!
Did not seem to impact signal so far, though I've only tried laying here in bed. I'll report back after work Monday, as that is always the major radio killer spot for me.
Side note: could be a placebo, but data does ' seem' snappier. I'll report back Monday and hopefully have more answers.
At least as good, if not better so THANKS!!!

No noticeable difference as of yet, but we'll see once I get home how it fares.
Since I use firerats and that method seems daunting, any potential issues with just staying with the old radio? I am due a new phone in Feb and just thinking it might be 'easier' to just stick with the old...also, does anyone know if the PRL is still 60671 or has that been updated also?
Will this work on various software build versions of the stock (rooted) Sprint Hero? Just asking because I didn't upgrade to the latest OTA so I'm still running 2.31.651.7.

Yes it will work.It won't change from custom rom to custom rom.Only if you flash a different radio or if your service provider changes it in a update.(Impaler or anybody if I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.)

That's a rom issue, not a radio issue. I'd flash deca's 691 capped CFS kernel; that should fix it

if you ran my rom with no issues then you flashed this winzipped radio and have issues now that most likely is not a problem caused by the rom

Could be kernel speed, seeing as if the radio was messed up there'd be more serious issues

why is it that every time i flash a rom, data speeds become complete crap? the apn fix didoes work for me. i don't see a reason why this should happen.
Normally each ROM will have a preferred radio. Make sure you are using the correct radio.

If you're saying the APN fix DOES work for you, the answer to your question is because almost all ROMs have the incorrect APN config for some markets.
I tried the APN "update" on the stock radio using CM7 but my upload speeds are still only around 300k. I'm wondering if the network is still behind here in Kansas City.

Indeed that may be the case. CM7 (as do most custom ROMs) already has the proper build.prop settings to allow 1.3 MB/s upload speeds, and you've already tried my APN changes. There are some threads claiming a few people have lost HSUPA from flashing radios, but I don't know if this situation applies to you.
If you want to confirm without a doubt whether or not your market is HSUPA enabled, try this if you're feeling adventurous. First, backup your current CM7 ROM in ROM Manager, then flash the updated rooted stock RUU that came out a few days ago at THIS thread. This method flashes the updated stock image through the bootloader (using the P98IMG.ZIP method), and it flashes a new radio to your phone. If your speeds stay the same then it's safe to say your market isn't HSUPA enabled yet. However, if your upload speeds improve vastly after doing this method, then just keep that new radio that the new RUU flashed to your phone, and restore your CM7 backup. After restoring CM7, flash the HTC-RIL file that matches the new radio (HTC-RIL 2.2.0079HM). You can find this RIL in this thread. Works like a charm, I've been running it for a couple of days now on CM7.0.2 stable. Battery life is very good too.
Awesome! Thanks Henry. I'll try it when I get back into town. One of my coworkers has the Inspire (100% stock). I'm going to ask her how her U/L speeds look after the update as well.
Give it 3-5 days, i used to think that too. Your new rom or radio has to get adjusted to each other. Its like a fine wine in most cases. if you flash a new rom it has to get adjusted to the radio vise versa. Its kinda like a new baby thier brains like a sponge soaks up info quickly. just give it time my freind spend a few days with each rom and radio combo you test and on the 3rd to 5th day, data, and kernal test your setup.
This is for the lazy people like me.
This is a Nandroid backup, do not try to flash it as a regular rom.

The newer baseband "should" be an upgrade over the old one. Its too early to tell.
I dont know about you guys but reception, data and battery used by the original radio for this phone sucked the big pastrami for me. I get no bars where my vibrant and NXS get at least two, thus this thing is sucking the battery searching for signal. And this happens to be at work where i spend 50 hours a week at. This issue alone makes me very disappointed with my g2x.

I believe there were some kernels that worked on paul's leaked GB and ROM's based on that, but i do not recall. I am assuming hey will work on this.
Anyone remember, and if so, could you post?
Hi. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I haven't been able to find proper info and afraid to flash the wrong thing.
I'm looking to make sure I have the latest radio(s) for my phone.
I have the NS4G D720 (Sprint variant) and i don't see radios listed for it in the stickies. Is one of the i920s radios a match or is there simply no new flashable radio update available for the D720? In which case, I'm still surprised that no one has made the stock one available for download in case of a brick?

It is your baseband radio. It gives the best settings and tweaks for the best reception. So there is no separate 4G radio you need to flash. If you plan to flash CM7 or any custom ROM the tethering will work.

Here is another radio list:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077168
OK since this is a question I'm assuming that I post this here so if I'm wrong sorry. And I have searched for answers to these questions on xda and Google and if info is out there I can't find it so if someone knows where it is point me in the right direction and I'll read the info myself as I'm not to lazy to research info when I can find it now that that's out of the way my questions are as follows...
1. What does the modem in my phone control the wifi or data and basically what does it do? The quick version will be fine.
2. What does the radio do and controll? Quick version OK.
I just updated to the latest ics leak that came out a couple of days ago I think it UCLD2 correct me if I got that version wrong. I've also tried UCALC4 and with neither I get many bars. On gingerbread I got 2 or 3 bars in my home recliner with UCALC4 I got 1 and with UCLD2 this new leak I get 0. I've read flashing the galaxy note radio will fix this if so I need a link to that radio with instructions on flashing it in cwm. And if that radio does not fix the problem can I flash back to this one or maybe a gingerbread one?
And lastley I'm getting a notification at the bottom of my screen every few minutes that says connected to belkin wifi etc. I did not get this on gingerbread is this also a radio problem or a modem problem or a tottaly different issue? And what can I do to fix it? Should I just restore the backup of gingerbread I made and wait for the official update whatever year that may be lol?
Thanks ahead of time for any help or advice...

I typed "android phone modem" in Google and got an answer on the first page, I'm sorry but I highly doubt u searched anything. None the less, as a new user I will spoon feed u this one time
Radio and modem are interchangeable terms used on CDs to basically describe the firmware used to control your phones cellular radio. Different firmwares enable different functions and frequencies. Basically with no modem, u have no cell data, or signal. No calling, no texting, nothing
UCLCL5 has been pulled due to it causing too many instability issues. getting a phone that works with it is luck of the draw. Use leeC UCLA3 radio for ics instead

Sorry but I typed in cell phone modem and of course with that all I got was ways to connect your PC to the internet thru the cell phone. Didn't think about putting android in cause I figured modem would be in all phones oh well I will try that too see what I come up with. I'm in a real wooded very rural area so im not sure if the radio is the main problem I do know other phones like pan tech link a non smart phone gets full signal here but none of our android phones do. My main concern is the wifi saying connected every few minutes and my connection seeming like its slower that problem I did not have on gingerbread or UCALC4 is anyone else having these issues on the new leak

OK I flashed that modem that you gave me the link to then rebooted and BAM!!!!!! Instant signal bars... Thanks man you are awesome and I may be a noober but I'm learning a lot fast thanks to guys like you. I am a computer programmer/web developer/ net worker but phones are new to me but I'm learning in many ways there similar but in other ways miles apart... But thanks again.. oh yea by the way in baseband version it says UCALC4 but in build number it says UCLD2 but the modem I flashed said UCLA3 so I'm not sure what that's all about but its working so if it ain't broke you don't go messing with it...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
yeah, you'll learn about that as u go along, but they're basically different build numbers. UCLD2 is the newest, UCLA4 is the previous ics leak build, and UCLA3 is actually a gingerbread radio (2.3.6), but it works really well.
If I helped I u, and if others do in the future, hit the thanks button!

Yep, I used LeeC's UCLA3 modem for a good while. I tried the others but kept going back to it for the connectivity. Of course, everyone's phone and conditions differ so you have to try anything for yourself before you know if it is going to work for you. Like mentioned, it will probably show "Unknown" for a baseband, but it works. I am using the latest ICS modem (UCLD2) now with the Alien 7 ICS ROM and it seems to work just as well as the UCLA3 modem did for me.
+1 my wifi is even much faster and alot better range on ucld2 radio. Ucld2 is in every aspect. Far superior
Smoother. Faster. Less bugs
And easier to build from
I built my new rom. The ucld2 one. And did the themeing. In 1 afternoon.
Of course i have a great setup i ended up with from dealing with. The other leak. But i still say its much more refined
The UCLA3 modem worked good for me no doubt but as you said every phone is different and I like to try new things and stay cutting edge so I flashed the UCLC5 modem out of the galaxy note and my download speeds are faster with it but like you said it seems to depend on the phone itself and I would suggest anyone who is gonna try a new modem to try each one for a day or two to see which one is the right fit for your specific phone...
