Flash v6 as I believe v5 is based on 2.3.5.

v5 is based on 2.3.6.
What specific error are you getting when you try to flash the zip?
If it is a system mount error... try using adb to mount it

When i flashed v6 all appeared to go without error until i chose to reboot phone from cwm and i got the Motorola splash screen then the boot error screen. I have attempted v5 and v6 on rooted stock 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 with the same errors for each rom/gb version respectively.

The error I get is right after i attempt to restore v5.....it tries to mount /system, says cannot mount and stops.

[Q] Can't boot after installing a kernel ?

Ever since I rooted my G2x I have not been able to flash a kernel. I have tried with Stock Gingerbread, CM7, Weapon, and Hellfire Sandwich. Usually I am trying to flash a Faux kernel, but I also tried a different one with Weapon.
I boot to CWM recovery and then flash the kernel and then reboot. I just get a black screen, no boot loop animation or anything, just black. I have to then pull the battery and wipe or restore a backup to be able to boot again.
Is there anything I'm missing that could fix this issue ? Thanks.
Are you wiping cache/dalvik first? Are you trying to install OC/UV?

Yes, and yes. I just now tried it again. on Hellfire Sandwich using Faux Kernel 049 Beta Build 5(says Self Kang 3 only, but people in the Hellfire Sandwich thread are using it).

error mounting /sdcard

I was trying to upgrade from leaked ICS on skyrocket to SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.3 (7/24) (UCLF6 Base) AT&T OFFICIAL ICS..Project Margarine after the flashed i can't mount the /sdcard i get the "error mounting sdcard"
I tried with ODIN i.e. installing the original stock version (I727UCLF6_I727ATTLF6_ATT) thinking it will fix the problem but i am still running into "error mounting /sdcard"
I tried searching for the problem but unable to find any fix for the problem...
Any help will be very appreciated...
I had the same problem once. Had to format the sdcard on a pc and that fixed it.

from where are you trying this, from recovery or after phone boots up
if after phone boots up then see if windows can read it so u can back it first, then format

I recommend you use twrp recovery install using goo manager from the market, press haptic button in the bottom right then open recovery script, then reboot recovery you can flashed skyics from internal card also.

You have to one-click back to GB.

Like said above gotta use the one click. The partitioning is different ics roms are mtd and I believe most if not all gb roms are bml and the stock one-click will correct the partitioning on your phones memory before it installs stock firmware and then you can root and install the gb rom of your choice

I was able to return to 2.3.6 Gingerbread from 4.04 ICS by using one click.
