External SD Card dead after root used ClockworkMod 6.0.1.0 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I'm a newbie! I've rooted my Samsung Galaxy P5100 using ClockworkMod 6.0.1.0 via Odin3 1.85. I follow instruction at link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722063
But after done, my tablet can not recognize the external sd card.
How can I fix this problem ?
Thanks!

try switch back to Stock ROM,
there's no advantage using custom XDA rom when you still have the warranty, unless Samsung doesn't give firmware upgrade anymore

I think that using tablet without the externel sd card is no big problem, but if have the way can recovery it is the best
Now, I'm enjoying with ROM JB 4.1.1 update to 10 August. Basically, most of all are working smoothly.

What model of the Tab 2 do you have? I have the Tab 2 7" 3113 model and my external SD card still fucntions just fine after rooting and putting CM10 on it. I would take your question to the thread you got your CM10 from and post it there for help.

I'm using tablet samsung galaxy tab 2 p5100 10"

The sdcard might be corrupt, or it might be a problem with your tablet. Try putting it in a USB microSD reader. (they can be had for $2 online if you do some bargain hunting or $5 from radio shack--save yourself the angst of trying to mount USB storage and just buy one) It's also possible, though very unlikely, that it somehow got broken during some sort of hard reset or reboot, and you'll need a new one.)

I think that my external sd card is no problem. Because, when i boot tablet into clockworkmod recovery mode, the system still detect and read data on it. I don't understand what is the problem !!!

must be caused by your custom ROM,
please note almost every custom rom in XDA is developed by inexperienced wannabe hackers (some devs even doesn't have decent coding skill), & they deploy the rom without extensive testing, & they also not responsible if your devices bricked! LOL

pidgin2012, try reformatting your external sdcard from CWM or PC.
Rotundjere, that's not entirely true. Devs will usually tell you how well a ROM works. For example, CM9 is labeled as an RC, meaning that they tested it and everything works. However, CM10 is labeled as a preview, meaning that some things may not work & you try it at your own risk. For the most part I have found custom ROM's to be more stable then their stock equivalents.

Thanks for your advise! I will try to format sd card on my PC.
The cause make external sd card failed, the reason is that Clockworkmod 6.0.1.0. Because after flash clockworkmod, i have boot tablet to original rom, the system has noticed that can not read from external sd card

you can't compare xda custom rom made just by one person (mostly don't know how to code, & not test it properly) compared with the official stock rom, it's ridiculous

I'm not. I've used roms from various different devs and they have always been better than stock. All the devs I've dealt with use testers before mass releases and they are always up front about any bugs that may be in the rom. Frankly my phones stock rom had more bugs than the custom roms ive used. I've doubled my battery life, have more customization options, increased performance and have fixed some major bugs from the stock rom that never should have been allowed to leave the factory, and took 6 months for motorola to fix. Xda devs fixed it in 2. So tell me again how they don't know what they are doing

Dual Boot?

I was able to find some work done on the S3 before it was unlocked but can't find anything current for the S3 and dual booting. Has anyone made any progress or is anyone working on it? There are so many awesome roms out there but it's nice to have a daily driver and a slot(s) for test roms.
Boot Manager is an incredible app that I bought when I had the Nexus. Unfortunately, it seems development is dead.

Boot Manager allows multiple roms to boot from the sd card. It works for the Nexus just wasn't updated for the S3. Seems like an experienced developer could write an app or recovery that allows roms to install and run from sd card. If locked Moto phones can do it (Safestrap), surely ours can.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Moto's rom storage location is different than ours, the entire internal or at least most of the internal is able to be written on using safe strap. And besides, restoring a nandroid backup takes the same amount of time as safe strap does to transfer the data between the 2 partitioned rom's.

You got me there. I'd throw out BootMenu but we don't have a Webtop partition, so I know that'd be shot down.
So our only hope (app wise) at this point is Boot Manager? The app description says the only Samsung phone it works on is the Nexus. Anyone know what's different about it compared to the S3 (in terms of boot partition)?
Here's a link to some Vzw S3 dual boot development but there hasn't been any activity in it since late July - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774795.

Former Boot Manager Addict in Recovery
Honestly, when i had my DX, i was a boot manager addict! you couldn't tell me there was anything wrong with it.
however...
used to have leeeetle minor bugs i had to live with due to how Boot Manager worked. and flashing themes was a pain in the A$$
today i'm in recovery, but still a flash-aholic. all i do now is just flash a rom, get it just how i like it, make a nandroid of it, and can flash back and forth all day.
tired of Synergy, flash TWRP, click on restore, and walla, i've got Paranoid Android up and running... tired of that, and next its Beans Custome Rom 11, and so forth. only annoying thing is that when you add to it after you make a nandroid, and dont upgrade, then you have to go back and add the changes.
but trust an old addict, this is waaaaaay better, and not much slower than Boot Manager!

I agree that backup/restoring isn't THAT bad but I just miss being able to boot to random roms without much hassle. I had 6 current roms on my Nexus. With BootMenu (not to be confused with Boot Manager) on my Maxx, changing between system 1 (phone rom) and system 2 (webtop rom) was literally as fast as rebooting. Just reboot and a menu came up to boot 1st, 2nd, or recovery.
I'm not complaining about my S3 by any means (best phone I've had to date) I just feel pretty sure it IS possible to dual (or multi) boot if some one with the knowledge took the challenge. Quad core, NFC, battery changeable, 4.8" screen, fully functional Jelly Beanable, LTE piece of hardware booting CM, AOPK, MIUI, TW, AOSP, [you name it] with the click of a button. Gets me excited just thinking about it. Wish I know enough to take the project on myself.

I pointed that out on the last page. Do you know WHAT is different about the boot partition that it only works on the G'Nex and no other Sammy phones? I entered my device in manually in Boot Manager just to see if it'd work but it couldn't back up my phone rom (because of boot image).
Unless something is incredibly special about the G'Nex, perhaps the app could be adapted for other Sammys.

Ahhh I see lol I seen no one else had posted so I figured I would tell my experience. This is wayyyy better than cwm by far at least for the blaze. Cwm seems to have problems flashing on our phone. I have tried many different versions from official to unofficial of cwm and all of them wouldn't correctly format the partitions.

TWRP and CWM are both custom recoveries that have the same functionality performed in unique ways. Each person has their own preference. Before today, I've never used anything except for CWM (with the exception of putting CM10 on my wife's blaze, it was some weird recovery I've never seen on any other device), but I'll be giving it a try.
Just about anything you can do in CWM can be done in TWRP. There are no "CWM ROMs", there are ROMs that are flashed using a custom recovery (such as CWM or TWRP).

After re-reading, I think I might appear to come off as a ****, and if I do, I'm sorry. Not trying to, just helping to educate you
Android modding can be a lot to take in and it's better to squash bad or mistrue views early than to try to re-learn later. I know that part from experience.
Never hesitate to ask anything

The partitions interest me. Some ROMs it is emmc for internal and sdcard for external.
Others have internal SD listed as sdcard and external listed as external_SD.
anyways, I think twrp team implemented mtp mode as well as mass storage and you may have to install new drivers or try a different ROM.

i know CM10 has sdcard as internal and external_sd as the external. TWRP has emmc as internal and external_sd as the external, so they share the same external_sd mount points. however, neither internal nor external shows up on my PC when I mount USB storage. I normally use MTP mode in CM10, but mass storage works as well.
Inside TWRP, when mounting, nothing changes in Device Manager in windows. DM recognizes a device was plugged in, but there is nothing listed as a media or storage device

[Q] What should i choose? PA or stay on CM?

Hi! I'm new here, but i am a bit experienced in stuff...
Anyway, when i got my Tab 2 7.0, i did flash it to Cyanogen. Now, i am on RC2
Now, i am stuck on a question: "Should i get ParanoidAndroid 3+ or stay on CyanogenMod?"
I *can't* find any clear opinions, bug list, installation instructions or kernels... ( I know what is Factory Reset, but "Wipe Everything"? )
So i ask your help, guys. ParanoidAndroid seems an A+++ rom for me, as i like costumization. No, do not ask me to get Xposed, it's already hard as it is for me.
So thanks guys!
Full wipe just means clear the caches in clockworkmod

They also recommend formatting the internal sdcard, which i sometimes do, because it is easy to end up with multiple 0 directories, factory reset skips formating data/media.

Send from invader Zim's spaceship.
search on internet for Rom called jelly bam its awesome and its a combine pac Rom.
it uses latest cyanogenmod build and have paranoid android incorporated.
it will be best for u .i think so
I flashed paranoidandroid on my Tab2-p3100 but i had problem with the mic, which was not working at all.
I never flashed cyanogenmod on my tab (may be I am afraid of the term "nightly" makes it seem very unstable, you know!, though, they say they are as stable as they come).
Now there is this PAC-ROM , claims to have all-in-one features of all the roms together, i flashed it as well, it was also a good rom to test, but there were some bugs in it (you can refer to the thread), now I am using Adishakti's Dark-Fantasy-2 rom, which is a modded paranoidandroid+AOSP+ maybe caynogenmod ROM but it is really very good and stable, least of glitches i noticed elsewhere

That would be my opinion about it.

DarkFantasy is PAC ROM with Sony launcher and some eye/ear candy.
Please, I beg you, try cyanogenmod. If your uncomfortable tyr the cyanogenmod RC 2. It is the most stable ROM I have used. I have used to for almost 3 months now. Since I am a flashaholic i flash other ROM's often but i find cyanogenmod the best and I always go back to it.
Try it. Please.

I agree, also. I think it is funny how people go crazy over ROMs which are just other roms modified to the makers preferences. Not to say the makers do not deserve credit for their hard work, but why not take a good ROM and mod it to your own liking. Just an opinion.

I am a member at cyanogenmod forum for last 2 years by the same name and I think on this forum too by the same name.
I actually had nothing much to post on xda previously because almost everything I wanted to know was already posted and i used this forum's knowledge to flash friends' phones mostly and had no experience of anything i used so nothing to post, but, since I now own a Galaxy tab P3100 and most of the time I am reading this section about the tab, I just wanted to share what i thought appropriate, that's all.
Thanks for pointing out that the rom I was talking about is a modded PAC-ROM, and I think what one flashes and uses is a matter of personal choice, i just shared my opinion as i think the OP asked for that.
Thanks for the comments
Alright installed cyanogenmod "latest nightly":good:
Working furiously since last 3 hrs installing all my apps all over again
Cleaned my internal memory (wiped it)
Maybe i'll come to like it.

Titanium backup will save you some headaches. unless you used it and it still took that long, then wow that is a lot of apps. Lol

Actually I had a huge backup of applications but I happen to read the SGT2 cyanogenmod nightly thread and right there in the first or second post users are warned against using titanium backup to restore apps. And I thaought, what the hell, maybe I need to wipe Internal memory clean from time to time so why not now.
Somewhere in the forum a new app backup software is suggested, "helium backup"! Any experience with that?
So now we are going way off topic
Back to the topic, after using the new ROM whole night (seriously I was on a night shift!), I found out it to be lot better than someone else's modded version, I used "PimpMyRom" to my heart's content!!!!!

Yes, I used pimpmyrom to add bravia2 engine, the sound tweaks, gps mod for better GPS lock, except for the quality of video, all other things improved as expected. I could not notice difference in video quality.
Gprs was also improved, no 3g where I live.

Possible phone dying?

Wife's infuse running beanstalk. Getting issues where every once in a while she will lose all apps that have been installed and once it lost all pics/music/etc.... Question is: should I look at using our upgrade soon? I'm starting to think internal memory is starting to die...

mebby bad flash or rom corruption
back up your sd and take out micro sd
reset the phone to factory
flash gb stock..reset it in gb stock..run in stock without any micro sd..don't restore any data except google sync..see how that goes for a while
I was afraid you were going to say something like that. :crying:
Good side is that maybe the phone itself isn't dying.

it's a little work but shouldn't be too tough.
i my honest opinion, the best set up for someone else is prolly stock gb with zen's latest kernel (it has the later galaxy device wifi drivers that are less prone to wipe your battery)
unless of course, the phone user is a tinker that can learn to do things herself

No app to SD option since rooting

Just wanted to ask if any body knows what's happened to add to SD option. I recently rooted my tab2 and now running 4.3 with slim bean first thing I noticed I had to reformat my SD to fat32 as exfat is no longer recognized.. Then I noticed no app to SD.
This is not a major issue but I did find it handy and would really like to get this back if possible so any help or tips would be appreciated.
Oh andi have tried a few other ROMs as well. None have this option.
Apart from that the ROMs pretty dam good

Hey bud I'm running into the same problem on my tablet I have the sph-p500 version from sprint I'm still running the stock rom cause I guess there's nothing out yet for this version but I've done all the formatting for the extend are and using link2sd not app2sd it still won't let you move apps to ext sd but you can link the folders to free up alittle space I'm new to android and to this site but it seems to me like people on here are alittle weary about talking to junior members it sucks because I could really use there advice in the most recent versions of android the primary sd card is emulated therefore will not alow ext to be primary due to security reasons
Hello mate sorry for the mega late reply I work offshore. I come to think now its just not possible to appto SD but hey never mind my pad has plenty storage its just a shame I cannot utilize the 64gb SD card I have lol never mind I will keep searching for a solve.

Apps 2 sd is only possible if you're running stock firmware jb 4.2.2.
If you want to move apps, use link2sd but you need to make partition in your external sd.
