Reflash your ROM. Wiping data or factory reset wont solve this seeing as the apk would have been in /system and not /data

i tried reflashing the rom and got the message app back but now when i open the message app this error comes up 'unfortunately messaging has stopped working;
i'll try the apk you gave evilmastr and report back

In Go Sms there is a check box for if you have deleted the stock app and want go sms to do that job. Find it and check it and that should fix you.

Google Voice
Have you tried using the Google Voice app? There is a setting that allows GV to be the default messaging app. I like the GV app better than the stock message app anyway.

I deleted two of my stock app; T-Mobile TV, and EA Games
I deleted those cuz i thought i didn't need them, soon after I restored my phone, which is a T-Mobile LG G2x Android 2.3.4, and then my google app didn't update like the other apps on my phone did. i really don't like that old google app cuz it was for the old version, anyway to get the update?

[Q] MMS pics only stay on screen for 5 seconds and then the screen goes blank SOLVED!

I have searched and didn't see this anywhere.
MMS pics only stay on screen for 5 seconds and then the screen goes blank. I just flashed to 2.3.6 and this started happening. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix out there? It is annoying.
Hi Tytan0007. We have a Q & A section for questions.
What 2.3.6 did you flash? Stock? Vahlalla Black?

I assume you adjusted the "Screen timeout' in settings already? If so, did you do a factory wipe and fresh install of the stock ROM?
I did adjust it. The whole screen doesnt go dark....just the picture after viewing it for 5.secs...I wiped everything when I flashed.

I haven't been on stock or used stock messaging in a long time. You could try a third party sms/mms app like GoSMS Pro - which is what I use - to start. You may try a reflashing the ROM with a factory reset. You can try flashing Raver's Valhalla Black.
Or you can hang on and see if somebody else steps in to help

I would try this. If your mms/sms works using GOsms then it would suggest the stock app is having a issue. I seen something similar on another phone. The user couldnt get sms/mms until he installed GOsms. Then mysteriously the stock app started to work.
Not a fan of third part msging for privavy reasons so I will not be downloading any 3rd party. Maybe a refresh will work. Thanks for your help.

I suggest this only because it could jumpstart the stock app. The person I referenced went three months without mms/sms through several updates.
But let me get this straight..you will install a custom rom but third party messaging app is a nogo. Ok.
I installed stock 2.3.6...nothing custom on it. However, I did try handscent and although it did not fix the stock app I like how it works so I guess I threw my privacy thing out the window there. Thanks for the help anyway!

If you like Handscent... give goSMSPro a run. I have tried both and liked the latter much more.

So you are able to view the messages longer than the original 5 seconds?
And I guess I missed you said you were on the stock 2.3.6, my bad.
I understand the concern for privacy. But I think with the thousands of users of most sms apps at some point somebody would have found a security flaw in them. So you should be pretty safe.
One more thing if you really want to use the stock one. Redownload the stock rom unzip it and find the stock messaging apk. You can then push it to your phone via adb or a file manager that has root privileges.

I will try this...thank you!
You're welcome. You can apply themes to gosms as well.
Stock messaging is separate from the mms. If gosms is working and you like it, it beats the hell out of stock.
Ha! Get this, my pictures on the stock SMS work perfectly now. Fixed!

Help me with txt msg

so when my friend txt me to my phone i get the text but it says i have to download it... and when i try to download it nothing happens...
help ?
The message is an mms. If you're on a custom Rom make sure mms works on it. Also could be a network problem.
Download go sms pro from the play store. Its a free app that has worked for many users on custom roms w/ broken mms

I updated my international Galaxy Note to latest software and after this update I am unable to use Facebook messenger app and messaging into official Facebook app. Tried to clear cache, delete data and delete dvlik cache. Restarted, tried older version of messenger but I get all the time message "unfortunately, messenger has stopped ". Does anyone else has the same problem?
Any suggestions?

[Q] MIUI GB Pureview by Fundozz

Been using fundozz's pureview miui rom and loving it, however I am unable to download picture texts (mms). I've tried playing with the apn settings and used an app that automatically sets up the apn for you, still no go.Did a full wipe before install, on T-Mobile USA. Any advice?

You might have to enable data to receive and send mms. This is a problem for me and doing this solves it. Then if you don't have a data plan just disable it after.

Thanks for the response. Data is enabled. It seems to be downloading for about a minute then just fails?

Yes. Working on recent roms such as gsnap, GingerDX, even JB paranoidandroid works. Seems to be just pureview?

Yeah, I guess. Your response rules out other variables.
Alright so I installed go SMS. It received a picture just fine.. maybe its just the stock app? Which I would prefer to use over go SMS.
Maybe you could use the stock messaging apk from another ROM?
Ok so deleted go SMS.. now when someone sends a mms I get a fc.. something something.mms? Went into msg app and it fails to download again.
Would it be possible to unzip another miui rom and just install the message app apk?
Can't hurt to try!
No go. Problem parsing the package.
Hmmm. You sure they're both based on the same version of Android?

I guess it makes sense that they would have to be. But no... ill try another one later today. Thanks.
Proper apn settings?
Press thanks if I helped you!
As far as pulling a stock sms app from another cm7 based miui, it causes forcecloses. SMS app doesnt even open after installing the .apk.
As far as the APN settings, ive googled and searched, and everything ive tried is still a no go. Used an app from the store called Twweaker? Sets the APN for you, still no go.
Weird.

Has anyone successfully exported their SMS and MMS messages from a G2X running Gingerbread to a KitKat phone?
I tried using SMS Backup and Restore and it messed up the dates and did not export images.
Anyone have success with another program?
Thanks!!!

Thanks, but I'd much rather have a local backup than trust Google with it.
