I previously used my phone as a wifi hotspot when I had a prime. The infinity sees the wifi and pretends to connect but the bars in the indicator stay grey instead of blue. Thus no internet. What am I doing wrong?

Mind telling us what the problem was, in case someone else runs into it?

I have a similar issue. Would love to know the resolution, but maybe someone can help.
My phone is a rooted EVO 4G LTE with WiFi Tether and profile is set to generic ICS. Infitity recognizes and attempts to obtain IP from the phone but it just stops there. It also shows a very weak signal when its trying to connect even though the phone is next to my tablet. When its not trying to connect it shows a very strong signal.
Any suggestions?

When I tether my Tf700 to my SGS2, it will take a little while for the WiFi icon to turn blue. Mind you, the icon turning blue is not a representation of the connection having been established per se, but it signals having a (syncing) connection to Google's servers. Sometimes, I can browse the web and download all kinds of stuff while the icon is still green. After a while (and mostly after a crapload of mails and Whatsapp messages and the like have come in), the icon (finally) turns blue.

Did you make it discoverable on both devices? Try connecting after that. You should try tethering using BT. Saves more on battery for your phone.

I've had that issue before. Try changing your SSID and Password on the hotspot provider (phone) and it should work. May take a few tries.

Hey guys,
Does anyone know if there's a app that automatically connects to the strongest wifi connection?

If you were every surrounded by wifi connections you would hate it. It would be constantly trying to change connections everytime you moved
Not just every connection just the ones my device knows.

Well my asus doesn't. When i'm at my buddies house next door it connects to my router instead of his.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
hmm
It maybe because when you leave your house you are still connected to your wifi and your signal is strong enough to stay connected, that is common practice. Now if you go to a part of your friends house that your connection doesn't reach your wifi will automatically switch, and when you are on his and go to your house same thing will happen. This prevents your device from dying all the time when looking to connect while already on a network.
That's a clear thing but the fact is that i use a app that kills my wifi directly when the screen goes off. So it can't stay connected.
Still open for comments

Name all your Wireless connections with the same SSID and use the same Encryption method and Key and the devices will seamlessly swap over to the strongest one when the last one becomes too weak

Nice one Dave. I'll try it on my two routers but I don't think that my buddy will change his ssid just for me

Is clicking WiFi and selecting a different known AP really that difficult? The ever-increasing laziness of the world astounds me.

the same ssid was a good idea
I didn't suggest because its your buddies house and you would need to have the same password as well for that to work which opens you both up more for security issues, or as one of my friends found out from not securing his that other people will watch inappropriate porn and get your services cut off. So basically you can set your wifi to cut off when the device goes to sleep because if you are walking and looking at your transformer on your way to your friends or reverse it should connect to appropriate one then. But good luck on your venture if this really bothers you get a better router your self and blanket your friends house as well problem solved.

A better router is a good suggestion but more expensive than a possible app. But thanks anyway soldja

If this has been asked and answered, I apologize. Can't figure what to search for to find it.
I have a multi-story house and one wifi access point simply doesn't cover it all. I've wired up one for upstairs and one for downstairs. One of the two has DHCP enabled. Both have identical SSIDs and security. I do not know to change BSSIDs (some kinda hidden SSID?) Have tried setting both to same channel and to different channels - currently on 7 and 11.
My charge will not automatically switch between them. Under EE4 I could turn off wireless and when I turned it back on it'd connect to the stronger signal. Under all the gingerbread builds it connects to one and even after turning wireless on and off it connects to the original one. Under GB I can only switch between them using Wiifi Analyzer's connect feature. Under GB I've taken to setting up the SSIDs to different values so I can at least manually switch between them in settings. This is a royal pain as I walk between the two floors all the time.
What am I doing wrong? Doesn't anyone else have this problem?
Instead of multiple routers, try using wireless repeaters or extenders. A repeater picks up a wifi signal and rebroadcasts it for better reception. A network extender has an ethernet port that connects to your router and makes an access point without making a new network.

I prefer dd wrt routers using WDS. There are lots of resources about this. Or just buy a some access points. I find that repeaters have interference issues.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Well, actually my second router is currently setup in firmware to be an access point.
Have either of you guys observed a Charge w/ GB actually handing off correctly? If so, at least I'd know that it's my setup.

A repeater is the best solution? The upstairs location just barely picks up the wifi from downstairs. Seems like you'd lose a lot of thruput that way.

Tried the app "Wifi Manager"? It might help you. There a bunch others. I would try them all out to see if they help your situation.
WiFi Jumper fixed this problem for me. Well worth the money.

Seems like a nifty utility. Easier than setting up WDS, but I still think that WDS is the bees knees when it comes to having rock-solid wifi everywhere you want.
Hi,
Wasn't quite sure where to put the question so mods, feel free to move.
So I use Bluetooth tether to connect my TF700T to my HTC One X and this works really well. The only drawback is having to keep going into settings to connect.
I would like a widget on the home screen where I can just click to connect. I have tried a few from Play Store but I can't seem to get any to work.
I currently have Smart Bluetooth Widget but each time I try connecting it fails.
Anyone know of any others that actually work?
Thanks.

This doesn't answer your specific question, but I personally use an app called Open Garden - allows for fully automated bluetooth tethering. If you tablet needs an internet connection and one doesn't exist, it will automatically tether to your phone via bluetooth using the Open Garden apps. Works really well...

Hi jtrosky,
Sorry for late reply and thanks for the info.
I tried OG a few days ago and couldn't get the devices to connect. Found some advice on the OG forum to leave the app running for a few hours and they should connect. I did this and the forgot about it. Then tonight, out of the blue I get a notification and when I looked it was OG connected.
I've been playing around turning BT on and off and restarting devices and still find they take ages to connect. I know there is a connection button in the OG app to force the connection but I may as well connect in Bluetooth settings as do that.
The other thing that concerns me about this app is that anyone else with this app and within Bluetooth or wifi range would automatically connect to the same 'mesh' network and be able to use my data plan, and me theirs of course.
If the app evolves and includes user settings to include/exclude other devices into the 'mesh' network and devices connecting becomes more instantaneous it may be more attractive.
I'll probably keep trying this out for a few more days but I would really like to find a quick connect button solution for tethering.
Thanks again.

That's strange - I use OpenGarden between my Nexus 7 and my HTC EVO 3G and it connects instantly, as soon as I enable bluetooth on my Nexus 7 (I leave bluetooth enabled on my HTC phone). I agree about that there is a lack of capabilities to "lock out" other users, although in practice, I've never had anyone else actually connect, so it's not an issue for me.
Let us know if you get OpenGarden working better - I use it quite a bit when eating lunch - works perfect every time... Good luck.

Thanks but its not the direction I was looking to go really.
My tablet tethers to my phone really well just using standard tethering features. I was just wanting a quicker way to do it then navigating to settings each time.
Anyway, fount a solution that fits perfectly. It called Bluetooth Shortcut and that is literally what it is.
The button is on my homepage which when clicked takes be directly to my list of paired devices in settings. So in two clicks I'm connected. Which is what I was trying to achieve.
Thanks for your inputs all the same.

Hi, I hope somebody can help me out. I have been unable to connect online for about a month now to my wifi. When I select the connection, it shows me full bars on the settings page but nothing afterwards.
I have no trouble connecting other devices to my wifi & right now it's just an expensive paperweight. I have no problems tethering with my phone & when I'm at the library with my pad, there are no problems connecting.
Nothing is customized & I'm on 4.2

I would try to disable password on your router and see if your tablet will connect then. If it does you might need to change the encryption on your router. Check what it is. If its WEP then change it to WPA2. Wifi doesn't have the best standards that are always followed by manufacturers and as a result sometimes things just won't connect.

I have to reboot my router after changing ROMS sometimes . Have you tried rebooting the router or maybe even resting it?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk HD
That most definitely has to do with your router. Check if you can connect to another device that has uses wifi (Xbox, iPod touch, TV, laptop) & if the wifi is working fine there. It could also be that you put in the wrong password for the wifi on your tablet, & it is reading the connection, but not actually connected.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. I changed the security from WEP to WPA2 & I was able to reconnect my tablet with no problems.

Tablet can't seem to connect to wifi after doing the Flatline NVflash. Anyone has this issue? When nvflash was done, I reflashed TF700_10.6.1.14.10_WW_Boot_TWRP_2610 running on CROMi-X 5.0.3. Booted up to find out that wifi is not connecting. I even tried factory reset and restore my previous backup but still no luck. Don't know what else to do besides a fresh install of cromi, which I'm really trying to avoid.
I know that Flatline *uses* WiFi, but I see no reason how it could break it, at least across a reboot.
Reboot your tablet and post the output of lsmod and dmesg.

Or maybe airplane mode? if not it must be something on the router side.

Well the wifi module is loading ok and wifi is scanning so there isn't an issue with the tablet. try tethering your EVOs connection to the tablet and see if it connects
Yes blank as in just an outline of the wifi icon, not greyed or color filled if it was connected with full reception

Forgetting connection/scan and reconnecting many times already with same results. Wifi direct on tab doesn't pick up my EVO but my EVO is able to pick up tab n connected successfully. I'm going to try uninstalling notification toggle bc that's the only thing on my tab from what I can tell that has access to network settings
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well just my luck....tried everything possible relating with wifi but still no connections. Guess I'll have to format sd and do a fresh install of cromi. Btw I'm on d2sd and if I were to wipe internal, does that delete the androidroot nvflash folder sitting in the internal memory?
