An SD card is not required to install Synergy. You can use the internal one in your phone. Of course, your phone must first be rooted with clockwork mod on it because you flash the synergy zip in clockwork.

Give it a go. Synergy is awesome. I'm running it right now, and it works really well. It's clean and mostly resembles stock, but without the Verizon spy crap.

TWRP works fine for flashing roms, but if you are going to be flashing kernels that use the kexec method you will need clockworkmod 6.0.1.0

In addition, since there is no custom kernel packed into Synergy yet, you're fine using the recovery you have.

TWRP does not recognize the internal SD card I'm pretty sure from what I've read. You'll need clockwork to access the internal memory to flash.

Lol ROM manager won't work. The app you referred to from app store is ez-recovery. Download and I stall it, select recovery, then cwm 6.0.1.0, then hit flash. DONE.

yes, as long as you aren't coming from synergy 1.4...wipe it, wipe all of it. Cache/dalvik cache/system. It's a pain in the butt, but you will be happy in the end. You could speed up the app replacement by using titanium backup, but remember not to also restore data, just the apps. I personally just stick to the stock google backup though, as it is usually quicker.

I take no credit for this one. @Koush released a zImage for a kernel on the @clockworkmod account. Flash this then install Clockwork Recovery from ROM Manager.
Don't know any more details than that. Thats all he tweeted. Don't know about switching kernels back afterwards or anything, but hey give it a shot. I just know flashing a zImage on the Epic isn't half as easy as on the Nexus or Evo and most people can't handle it, so I made this zip to flash via recovery.
Insert typical liability disclaimer here. I'm not responsible. Yada yada.

Yes, but since it is only the kernal.. Just rename it to Update.zip and let her do her thing.. I believe that should work as well.. As it is signed and it is a zImage.

My wife's GS4G connects to the computer but only charges. The phone does not recognized that it's plugged in to the computer, and the computer doesnt acknowledge the device either. I doubt I have a driver issue because the computer would at least tell me that it couldnt find them. The phone only charges when it's connected. I want to know if there's a way to root the phone without using the computer. I could then use wireless adb after that I guess. I looked at this one tutorial but I couldnt flash any Rooting Zips from the bootloader because my bootloader is version e3 (?) and I guess you need e2. Is there a workaround for this or am I forever doomed?
Assuming you're on Froyo, download the update.zip from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374
That will get you CWM.
Download the Bali kernel from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080871
Once you put it on your sd card and use the update.zip from the first post to get into cwm, flash the new kernel since it's got a newer version of CWM + root. You'll be able to tinker with your phone after that. Note that you will only have support for Froyo CWM roms after that so don't try flashing any Gingerbread CWM roms until you manage to get your computer to recognize it.
Great! Now what's restricting the ROM flashing to Froyo only? I've talked to a few people that think the usb port on the phone is broken. I've gotten no other explanations. It doesn't look like I'll be getting it connected at all.

To upgrade to Gingerbread you need to install a new bootloader that is only installable via samsung kies or via odin/hemidall. All of which require you to be hooked to a computer.

What eollie said is true. We've tried experimenting with flashing bootloaders via CWM, but that just wound up bricking phones, so you WILL need a computer to get on Gingerbread.
Maybe you can try to get a phone repair company to fix your USB port for you once you verify that it IS broken.

"use the update.zip to get into cwm" The update.zip file will get you yellow cwm. Don't worry it won't brick her phone if you're on Froyo and you have the SGH-T959V. The bali kernel won't work unless you flash it from the yellow CWM. If the screen you're trying to flash from has mostly blue letters, you're in samsung recovery which will only let you flash the update.zip to get yellow CWM.
Ok, This is what I did. I downloaded the second linked file from the thread you linked. It was an update.zip. I booted into the screen with the mostly blue letters,
did you select install update zip bro?
yeah. Thats how I got to what you see in the second image
Since your phone is probably not rooted you'll need to use this exploit to get it rooted directly from the phone:

Is the name of the update.zip actually "update.zip" if it isn't then the recovery isn't going to recognize it.

Okay, so my dad had bought a fit a few months back and he's sick of how slow it is and how unstable the stock is...
I'm not a newbie when it comes to this but I've only messed with my Motorola defy and after some looking around here it seems like things are a bit different for the fit (apart from rooting which is very simple)

Is this really necessary? I don't wanna download an entire GB rom just for CWM
Isn't there an app or something for this? I don't remember how I did it for my phone but it was quite straightforward
EDIT: I just looked up how to install CWM on my phone and it's a simple app from the play store. Isn't there anything similar for this phone?
You've got Froyo atm? If yes, then you do need to install GB first

don't use rom manager... it'll brick the phone
Okay then.. I'll do that first thing when my dad gets back.
also, will this work for custom recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623761
Is it reliable? The thread's only a page long, so i'm not sure
So finally, just to make sure I've got all the steps in order (before a moderator deletes this thread!!)
1. Install GB through Kies
2. Root the phone using SuperOneClick
3. Use ODIN for CWM (what exactly is ODIN? is it an app or something?)
4. Download ROM and GAPPS and flash it through CWM
That's it right? No messing with kernels or SBFs??

Well fit got a very simple system ...
no bootloader problem nothing locked ...neither the recovery is integrated with kernel !!
so to get a custom rom...
jus upgrade to a Gb rom.(Download a firmware from sammobile.com and flash via ODIN)
Using Odin(a Windows Tool) Flash the Cwm .
then using CWM flash as many custom roms as you want !!
well, that's good to know.. but I have a problem
I do remember seeing Kies when my dad got my phone, but right now, it's not showing up on the app drawer. And the Play Store isn't showing up either
Almost no apps were installed since we got the phone, and it's only been used for calling and the occassional texting
Any idea what's gone wrong? And how do I proceed with the flashing now?

okay so I entered "fastboot flash boot boot.img" after I replaced the boot.img file. It went back to the bootloader screen and selected recovery. It stays black.
I tried resetting the phone, going back to recoverty, get sent to the TWRP app. When i look under install under the sdcard, I dont see any roms.
Retrying a second time, reentered "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and am now stuck on the HTC Screen with red text "this build is for development purposes... etc"
what am i doing wrong?
If I ever actually get my phone into recovery mode I'll let you know -.-
Edit: Alrighty. That was annoying but I got it done. Shoulda known not to bother with automatic things -.-
Ended up having to manually flash TWRP to finally get it to stick. I think I'm going Nocturnal for now. Seems to have alot of goodies in it that I might enjoy. Eventually I'll probably "step down" to the slickest, smoothest, fastest ROM I can find and manually add in everything I intend to use though.
Been a LOOOOOOONG time since I had a device you could even flash though so I'll probably end up flashing excessively for a while. Havn't had one since my Xperia X1 was ran over and rained on... HEYYYY... X1... One X (1X) ! It's destiny

Yeah this is what i did, but i was unable to get it to recovery. In wiping the data i seemed to have wided the sd card clean. It shows as unmounted in the TWRP mount menu. I have no idea what to do from here.
I cannot find the rom anywhere, even after i fast boot boot.img

Download on your PC and either try to transfer to SD card that way by mounting or adb push the file to your phone once in recovery. If that doesn't work you will have to run back to 2.20 and reroot.
When you were wiping you didn't press wipe external storage because that's what wipes the data off your SD.

Speaking of flash all the things, I'm already considering getting rid of Nocturnal. Apparently it makes it difficult to access the menu button. Several of the programs I use offer no other method of accessing the menu.

Its quite simple, as others have mentioned just stick to the Development and Original Development subforums in this "AT&T, ROgers HTC One X, Telstra One XL" section and you will be fine.
Or just stick to my index thread, which is an organized list all the ROMs and other mods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
If you wander into the forum section simply labelled "HTC One X" with no mention of AT&T, you are in the wrong place (forum section for the international version).

Which Nocturnal ROM, there are like 4 of them (or more)? If its a Sense based Nocturnal ROM, just remap the "recents" button as with stock 2.20 in Settings>Display, gestures & buttons>Buttons. But I don't think there is an option to bring back the horrid 3-bar menu button for apps that don't have one built-in (if that is what you are looking for).
Not sure about the AOSP Nocturnal ROM, haven't used that one myself. But the AOSP ROMs usually have a button remap in settings as well.
Hey guys,
I setup dual-boot via Mazout's method for his CM10.1 builds a while back. I'm now selling my phone, so I'd like to revert it back to single-boot. How can I do that?

Even after I've done the quoted steps, my phone still always hang with Trinity kernel (+ CM7).
It used to work fine before the dual boot stuff.
I think it has something to do with EXT4, because even if I flashed back to CM7 or Faux kernel, phone still hangs.
I have to perform a complete wipe and re-install.
Also problem with not able to mount emmc
Any thought?

Take a look at that tool.
Or bad flash? Be sure you are checking the MD5 hashes

NvFlash the phone again with that, use 5.0.2.0 if you're using the touch version as to my knowledge it doesn't support ext4 which may be issue with booting

Yeah, CWM touch does not work with trinity... 5.0.2.0 needed for that. Also the cleanup batch requires formatting the internal SD in a GB ROM. There is a fix for that, I have been too lazy to implement it .

Format it from storage menu, but only possible from a gingerbread ROM.

I tried to mount internal SDcard multiple times prior but it kept saying can't mount.
So this time, I tried Erase SD card and it works (even it is counter-intuitive that you can Erase/Format without not able to mount).
Thanks pressed again.
