Is there an All In One guide for this phone? - Samsung Galaxy Fit GT 5670

Okay, so my dad had bought a fit a few months back and he's sick of how slow it is and how unstable the stock is...
I'm not a newbie when it comes to this but I've only messed with my Motorola defy and after some looking around here it seems like things are a bit different for the fit (apart from rooting which is very simple)
So I basically want the most stable rom (oc'd as well hopefully) and a small guide to get there from an untouched stock rom
Any help? Any help appreciated

oh crap!! I was scanning through this forum on my phone, and I forgot about it before creating this thread.. my bad :\
alright then, I'll flash that, but I need some instructions from start to finish
I'll root it first using superoneclick..
then what?
On my Defy I had to install CWM and 2ndInit because of the locked bootloader, but I'm not sure how it happens on this phone.
(on a side note, I'm quite surprised by the level of activity on this forum
Didn't expect the Fit to get any attention over here)
edit: I'm referring to this thread for installing CWM, but the instruction make no sense to me

First of all upgrade to Gingerbread via Kies/ODIN.
Then, install CWM via ODIN.
Download any ROM and flash via CWM.

Didn't understand the french thread but I did have a look at yours. Great work with all the videos... sadly the only video missing is the one for CWM
and I just can't understand tjstyle's guide
is there any other guide floating around?

Is this really necessary? I don't wanna download an entire GB rom just for CWM
Isn't there an app or something for this? I don't remember how I did it for my phone but it was quite straightforward
EDIT: I just looked up how to install CWM on my phone and it's a simple app from the play store. Isn't there anything similar for this phone?

You've got Froyo atm? If yes, then you do need to install GB first
---------- Post added at 08:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 PM ----------
don't use rom manager... it'll brick the phone

Okay then.. I'll do that first thing when my dad gets back.
also, will this work for custom recovery? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623761
Is it reliable? The thread's only a page long, so i'm not sure
So finally, just to make sure I've got all the steps in order (before a moderator deletes this thread!!)
1. Install GB through Kies
2. Root the phone using SuperOneClick
3. Use ODIN for CWM (what exactly is ODIN? is it an app or something?)
4. Download ROM and GAPPS and flash it through CWM
That's it right? No messing with kernels or SBFs??

Well fit got a very simple system ...
no bootloader problem nothing locked ...neither the recovery is integrated with kernel !!
so to get a custom rom...
jus upgrade to a Gb rom.(Download a firmware from sammobile.com and flash via ODIN)
Using Odin(a Windows Tool) Flash the Cwm .
then using CWM flash as many custom roms as you want !!

well, that's good to know.. but I have a problem
I do remember seeing Kies when my dad got my phone, but right now, it's not showing up on the app drawer. And the Play Store isn't showing up either
Almost no apps were installed since we got the phone, and it's only been used for calling and the occassional texting
Any idea what's gone wrong? And how do I proceed with the flashing now?

Quick guide for flashing Gingerbread KF1 and rooting

I am not responsible for brick phones. This method worked for me. If there is any confusion or something is not clear, ASK!
I see Kaik541 has a thread in Dev section for an ODIN version of KF1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14782572&postcount=1
This is for those who want to flash and root from using the tar files.
I personally always remove my external memory and sim card before using odin. It is not needed as people will obviously post and neither is doing master clear. I do these steps just to make sure I eliminate any possible issues that can occur during flashing.
1) Download Firmware from http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-samsungusa.htm
2) Flash back to stock JF6 w/ odin one-click and did a master clear.
3) Flash Gingerbread KF1 using Odin (see image attached)
4) Flash fugu kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1010141 (I attached the zImage-root.tar to post if link does not work)
In the first post look for and select the download link in step 2: (credit to nikademus)
How to use:
1: Flash the stock rom
2: Download the image for Heimdall or for Odin
3: Flash it with either Odin or Heimdall
4: Boot once, it will install root and crash/shutdown (it is preferred to let the phone connected to usb so it does not loop boot)
5: Reflash the original kernel
5) Flash stock kernel (attached kernelKF1.7z) credit to lownox for helping me on that
6) Settings>Applications> enable Unknown Sources (AT&T finally got something right)
7) Install busybox from market
8) ENJOY!
thanks for the write up man

I want to do that but I haven't learn how to do anything beyond deodexed. I also still haven't had time to learn how to add "extras" like extended power menu or additional lock screens.
If someone wants to PM the instructions or a link to do so, I'll be happy to do and have it ready tomorrow.
Do we really need another Odin guide? Write one on heimdall. It's open source and actually maintained. It also has a lower brick rate.

Honestly I have never used Heimdall and have never had an issue with ODIN. With that said I also have no objection if anyone wants to write up the parts for Heimdall here or by PMing me, I'll add to it the first post. I am not about to reflash again just to learn a new process when the old one has not given me a single issue.

its not ready for flash or anything and its just deodexed using illdroid.

There's really nothing new to learn. It looks and loads almost exactly like Odin. Not sure what processes are different when you push the start button though. I'm not pushing heimdall, just conveying what i've seen with it. I used once to load the last Andro3.

[q] do not use rom manager - help!

I read the posts, but maybe I did not understand?
I downloaded CWM and installed via the Android Market. Then I see the icon is named ROM Manager (whoops, is this already bad). I hit the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" button. Then I used up/down volume and power to boot into CWM and did a backup from there.
So am I screwed?
Is the backup good?
Can I use the CWM that I have as long as I boot into it?
Please, I have not been able to understand exactly what the "DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER" means. If I just boot is that ok?
I guess you can tell I'm new but I have a lot of software experience - just not in this environment - maybe I'm moving too fast for my knowledge (I think so now!).

Funny, I just posted a very similar question just minutes before you in the FAQ thread.
Huge red letters "dont use Rom Manager!" but the first step for every rom or kernal seems to be "boot into cwm..."
I'm sure someone will point out how dim we are soon.

Now would be a good time to read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
As you can see, CWM is included in the kernel you flash, and thus there is no need for ROM manager. It doesn't play nice with this device anyway, and is just unnecessary imo.
Use the recovery not rom manager itself...

So the OP is fine if he uninstalls Rom Manger even though he used it to flash CWM Recover? That seems a lot simpler then the cwm injected kernal method I just did.
Install rom manger, flash CWM, uninstall rom manger... flash roms all day. Would that work?

ROM MANAGER IS NOT CWM.
CWM is in the KERNEL (well, to be specific, in the initramfs of the kernel) on nearly all Samsung devices.
ROM Manager is an app that tries to install CWM, but FAILS to do so correctly on our device. CWM versions installed by ROM Manager DO NOT WORK PROPERLY on the I777.
ok heres the deal the cwm you booted into was probably rom manager cwm. so here are the next steps to take. question is are you using a custom kernel that has cwm installed? when you rooted your device did you have cwm installed? i also noticed you were using a skyrocket. when i rooted my wifes SR I did the all in one package. My opinion is just unistall rom manager and reflash cwm. then reboot into cwm and make a nandroid backup. although in theory your backup you did with rom manager is good forever unless you delete the file under /clockworkmod/backup.
miui+siyah = beast
OP, if you ****ed up probably the easiest step of the process(after all in one of the stickies it says DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER, as so), rooting your phone is not for you.
Either that or you're trolling.

Reading through this made me confused. But to the OP. Mod Manager is fine. You can use that to install CWM recovery. Just be sure to chose the T-Mobile SGSII version of CWM when it asks.
DO NOT USE ANY OF THE ROMS IN MOD MANAGER THOUGH. They are built for the SGSII phones. You can however use Rom Manager for all other options such as installing roms through SD, fixing permissions, and booting up into CWM, etc.

Probably the part about what else he's supposed to do. If I knew, I'd tell him. I assume he should read the whole thread in dev about how to get CWM installed through recovery but I'm just a novice. You might have been more helpful but I see that a lot of you are too busy hanging out in in dark closets having sex with your phones... tin foil hats and all. I know it's a pain answering the same questions over and over. I've provided support on a lot of boards and on a lot of subjects. When I got tired of typing the same answers, I started keeping them all in a text file so I could copy and paste them, links and all. That way, the info is spread all over the place and new users don't have to resort to finding the single "needle in the haystack." I know the L33T (do they still use that term? It's been about 20 years since i've seen it... probably for the good) love to repeatedly type "DO A SEARCH." Why not just help. If you don't want to and only want to maintain being L33T... do it elsewhere. You serve no function other than stroking yourself. I hate the "slam the noob" mentality. We were all one at some point. Merry Christmas.
The confusion here is that the OP posted this in the i777 forum. The i777 CANNOT use Rom manager to flash recovery and they have to use a cwm injected kernel.
The OP needs to learn where to read about his phone and remember what model he has.

Stuck in reboot loop

I just installed CWM via odin and all seemed well then I tried installing two different ICS based roms and both resulted in being stuck in a reboot loop. Could I have done something wrong? I have tried some fixes I saw posted around but nothing fixed the issue.

After Odin, did u boot into the phone and let it cycle and then install Odin cwm? Give that a try. Also, most of the updated ROMs already have the proper radio, no need to flash. Let us know how it goes.
Run the: ics odin one click. Then odin cwm recovery. Then flash ics rom. Or just flash this rom and you'll be good to go

I don't know what you've done to your phone. Perhaps if you make a very detailed list of what your setup is and what you've done so far we can help get you going. Be specific
Afternoon iLiberate,
What carrier are you with?
~PsyCl0ne
EDIT: Actually you know what come over to [RoM] ~[4.0.3.]~TEAM PERFECTION~REVAMPING
Now a couple of things before you start.
I am using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 for my recovery. I have had issues with a newer version but this one has helped me through a ton of issues I have had.
(Flash this with ODIN first)
I also recommend getting a wiping script DARKSIDE Super wipe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487706
(Give props to the guy that put this script together. Keep the zip file some where easy to access, you will be moving it to your phones external SD card along with the rom zip and kernel files.)
When you go into the TeamPerfection thread it is gonna be kind of confusing looking at all the links. Basically you will see 3 Themes (AOSP ICE, KOBALT, Phone Candy) then a link to a rom that is already themed, and finally the stock rom which you will need if you want to flash any of the three themes I listed earlier. For now I would just go for the Sense release we can always change what it looks like later.
Also you will need a kernel.
If you're with AT&T I would suggest getting Mohan's kernel. If you're with a Canadian carrier I would suggest Romracer's kernel.
From here you can basically follow the guide in post number 3. It is really simple just need a little patience and it will go through. Also if you have any titanium backups from Gingerbread, please don't restore those apps when your phone comes back up. Just scribble down a list of apps you currently are running, make backups of SMS/MMS if you wish and then manually download them one by one from the market. Then you can make a Tibu of the apps so if you want to change what your phone looks like you can just restore all the apps in one go.
If you need any more help please feel free to PM me, I honestly don't mind or even post back here. Gonna be doing some work around the house but I'll check back periodically.

OK..I'm Canadian and have a phone from Rogers, It is the SGH-i727R. I suppose the R is for Rogers. I'm sick of waiting for an ICS upgrade so I wanna try A DIY Rom install. Can I use all the software/firmware from the non-R version for my Rogers-R version phone?
Thanks all

since this is your first post, welcome! xda is a great place, and the skyrocket sub forum is full of a fun loving knowledgeable bunch.
In the future, try to search around first to see if you can find a solution. If not, post your question and what you HAVE found out, as senior members will be more inclined to help u.
Only difference between our phones and the at&t version, is as u said, the "r". Once u have cwm installed, u are more than welcome to flash any rom in the development section. As previously stated however, the one click Odin leaks for design gears have some kind of firmware check, and won't work on our devices.
Also, when someone helps u, press their thanks button! :-D
Thanxs guys.
I'll spend some more time reading posts BUT It's quite confusing. For example...I find a post on flashing a rom and two pages in it's talking about ODIN when I've now learned that system isn't compatible for my phone. There must be dozens of posts, all different, about rooting my phone. I don't even know if I need to root before installing a custom rom!! But then it makes for some interesting reading.

The phone must be rooted before installing any custom rom
This is the method I used to root my phone http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
This thread is very helpful too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383464

It doesn't need rooted to flash roms. It just requires CWM, the custom recovery. Then you can flash a custom rom, since they are already rooted for you

Odin works fine for Rogers phones. Things such as flashing back stock tars and recoveries work fine. What doesn't work is the ONECLICK odin's from the ICS leak designed for the regular i727. This is because it checks the model # and because we have an (r) at the end it wont work. There are plenty of great roms to flash. Just use odin to flash CWM and then install any rom you want.
almost
Well I got the sgh-I727r rooted. Installed Rom Manager, just to get CWM installed. 2 questions..If I back up the original ROM then do a "wipe" will I loose the B/U file. I don't have an removable SD card. I might be mistaken but in CWM restore, I didn't find an option to restore from internal SD only External? Did I miss something?
Stew
Thanks in advance

It will not wipe internal sd(emmc). It will only do that if you format emmc.
Just don't wipe the internal SD card and you should be fine
i'm new at this too and i have the R version but so far I haven't noticed any problems. except ODIN restoring to AT&T stock... which I doubt why you would do that lol

OK so where do I find odin and CWM files? I've only found CWM as part of rom manager?
Edit:
OK I found Odin3 and have it on my PC. Just looking for CWM.. BTW I found a thread on Canadian specific phones ad read their "how to" on flashing roms and they basically omitted the CWM part and instead loaded the ROM file into odin and flashed it that way!!?? What gives?

Sounds like you have the cord plugged in. Don't.
Hold volume up, down and power. Release power when Samsung logo appears but stay holding volume buttons until cwm pops up

Start at the beginning. When you rooted your phone what ROM/build were you on? Stock? What Recovery are you running? Did you make a backup? In my experience, you usually get a system 7 error when the download is bad, (did you check the MD5?) or if you're trying to flash a ROM that doesn't match your current system (IE: trying to flash a JB ROM when you're currently on ICS.)
The more info we have, the better we can help you.

Uh status 7 is assert protection so its a mismatch usually in device info typically model numbers, and has nothing to do with bad downloads.

Thanks for helping
I had a stock rom on it and found a youtube video referencing the how to guide in this forum, walked everything through step by step but didn't do the twrp thing, only odin . Tried it, didn't work. Didn't checkthe MD5 as it wasnt referenced in the video (have since seen it in the thread).
I'm gonna try and flash a stock rom with odin if I can and start over and ignore the youtube video.
At the moment Odin is the only program on my computer that talks to my phone so I'm hoping that works, just gotta find how to do it...

thanks, on it now. Just need to get it back to stock with Odin then I'll try again when I understand what I'm doing more.
Anyone feeling charitable and want to tell me how to flash the stock rom with Odin? I'd appreciate it.

Best of luck mate, reply here if you have any issues. And for pete's sake, next time, instead of watching a YouTube video, read read read and re-read the forums. Once that's done, read them again. Only then, start flashing.

That's an alternate form of DL mode. Odin a stock ROM from that screen. Read the Noobs Guide. Odin is finicky so pay attention to the guide. Then read it again. Once you've read and comprehend it all spin in a circle saying "I deserve this" three times and Odin will grant your wish. lol

Got it working, used TWRP to flash the latest RC CM 10.1
Got it all going now after a minor heart attack and a few more grey hairs. Just gotta figure out why the wifi isn't working at all now. Can't get it to turn on.
Your original 'system error 7' problem was most likely caused by trying to flash a newer ROM with an older version of CWM or TWRP. Glad you got the phone up, can't help you with the wifi problem, sorry. Although, what modem did you flash, if any? System Settings -> About phone -> Baseband version?

I flashed the UXUMA7 radio, didnt really do much, it worked before.
Still can't figure out the Wifi though :-/ just straight up won't turn on.
If you are on a newer CM 10.1 , the only supported radio is UCMC1, UXUMA7 is really old. That may be why wifi is not working.
UXUMA7 and UCMC1 are very similar. First one is the Rogers and second is att's release which is usually late by a month or so after rogers. Bottom line both will work.
Have your radiofile.zip, cm10.1.zip, and gapps from 20130301 all on your SD card.
Do you have a back up, nandroid? If not do it now.
Go to recovery and Clean up well:
Go to mounts and format data, system, cach twice or three times. Go to advanced and clean dalvik cache. Don't reboot
Now installing in this order:
- radio
-cm10.1
-gapps
Now reboot your phone.
Wait until it is finished and leave it untouched for 10 minutes to settle down and do its thing.
Then turn it off back on and enjoy.
Your noob status will start to fade if you do a clean install
