I did some research earlier today and i want to inform u guys about what I found before u trade in Ur tbolt.
I found that during fall HTC will be releasing a phone to Verizon in competition to AT&T's Samsung galaxy note. This device will be a 5.0 inch display, quad core with tegra 3 HD graphics. It is also gonna be the first device with stock sense 5.0. Release date will be sometime between September 22 and December 22. I think its worth waiting a couple more months for something that sounds so amazing. It's the best idea to wait if u like HTC phones best because u will have to keep it for 2 years so why not make the right choice so u can fully enjoy the 2 years u have with that device.

Sounds too small to be a tablet and too big to be a phone. 4.7" is my max sized phone screen.

Im going to stay away from HTC untill sense stops being such a fat pig and stealing all my resources. I don't know why I cant just get a phone with vanilla android AND the best hardware on the market. I feel that phone manufactures take a great piece of hardware then cram it full of all the bloaty fat **** that they can find then send it to the carrier that crams if even more full of worthless ****. By the time it actually makes it to the customer it has 200 worthless apps installed 150 "trial" versions of this and that. It is just rediculous. Nexus you say? Oh like I could get the Galaxy nexus for 250$ which is only half as good as the newest samsung device that released only what 2 months later. If you ask me Samsung did that on purpose so everyone would upgrade to the S3 right after they picked up a nexus which many did. Its just sad to see such a great operating system look like a slow fat cow due to all the bloat ware from the manufacturer and carriers. Ive had friends do nothing but bad mouth android due to this.

I'm not a fan of Samsung, I like HTC's phone designs, but that's it. Sense has gone downhill since 2.0 and they release new versions like every month, 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, 4.0, they were on Sense 1 for like a year... And it was great!

I'm considering to buy a long lasting phone and Nexus S seem to be good, do you think it will survive over 2 years without casing? I'm good at caring phone, my current Sony Ericsson G900 is already over 2 years old and still functioning perfectly (it looks worn out clearly) and most people who have my phone broke within a year.
Nexus S is going to be my first Android phone, only thing that I don't like that you can't enable or disable flash in camera mode, it will decide if it should flash or not by it own. The design seem awkward but I could handle it.
I'm also considering Incredible S but it doesn't have enough developers and it's still locked, so I guess I should go for Nexus S.
What do you think, will it survive more than 2 years?

It depends of what you talking about ? If hardware wise maybe and Evo 3D , htc sensation or SGSII but about updates most likely this one , any phone that is in the market and is a high end device most likely get ice cream(next big update for android) , nexus s most likely get it before anyone else(besides maybe nexus 3) google is trying to get manucfactures to make sure their phones they get updates within 18 months since launch but first they havent sign a form or paper that says they will second they haven't said for how long after google releases the update they need to release it as well so for all I know they could take 6 months( Evo is getting official gingerbread after 6 months, rolling out June 6, and the Evo was one of the best android phones in 2010 and a best carrier phone ) So I would stick with google if you want timely updates , that's one of the reason I got Me a nexus s
He is talking about the phone durability and yes, I would say it should last 2 years. It's made of plastic but it's not poor quality, it's much better then the galaxy S.
Since its a Google phone, you can't go wrong on picking it, it will always have the up-to-date software and will always have developers, even after 3 years (well, unless its about hardware limitation).
Its currently one of the best (if not the best) single core devices on the market, its definitely future proof.
And the camera does have the ability to turn the flash on or off, depending on your preferences.
The design is gorgeous btw, at least I think it is. The curve form is unique and when the display is turned off it looks completely black and clean, I think it looks very elegant.

Don't use your rubles on a nexus s when its going to be outdated in a few months

For my part I hope Samsung do more both hardware, and software, testing before launching the SIII.
On Tuesday I'm going to send my S2 and Tab 10.1 back for repair.
The S2 have random locs/reboots and somewhat loose homebutton.
The TAB has watermarks/newton-rings.
Maybe I have been unlucky with my first Samsung devices but I have never had devices, 30-40 phones and pc's over the years, with faults like this after only 2 months use.

4.3" is big enough, add a case and you're carrying a novel in your pocket, 4.7" will be like carrying a box of cereal in your pocket. That said, if it's light, and slim, it might not be so bad.

I did not bring it up like I want to be cool or anything. I have had alot of thing's before anyone else:
Halo: ODST
Cr-48
A game I can't name at this time( They will come to get me if name it.)
And now the Iphone ok.
P.S Ok so not a lot, but you get the point. The Cr-48 was the coolest to me and I have not had the phone for long they are just geting them in. I did not think every one would be so mad, but the ICS thread should have spelled it out for me.
Now about the Iphone part, I was just saying I am unlikey going to buy the S3, but it should be cool and I can't wait to see it.
Edit: You will all see the truth on 09/4/11.
So today Samsung officially announced their new low-end phone, the Galaxy Music.
http://m.gsmarena.com/the_samsung_g...icial_has_a_dualsim_version_too-news-4921.php
Why did this make me rage? It has 850 MHz processor, and 512 mb of ram, and is running touchwiz ICS.
You know, the same touchwiz ICS that Samsung said is unable to run on our phone. We have a faster processor and the same amount of ram as this device, but they said it couldn't run on our device.
Why Samsung? Why would you lie to us?
Wow I agree

still good news if someone is able to port the ROM to our phones.
The Nexus S has it, lots of other phones do with the same specs. It's who they decide to screw over and sadly our phones that get sold to the smaller carriers using the 1700 spectrum get left out. My old Alcatel phone got left at 2.1, while the new version that came out with identical specs but no slide out keyboard had 2.3. There is other phones at Wind (the Canadian TMobile) that got left behind too. Guess they don't sell enough to justify it or just don't care. lol.

The galaxy s line was one of the best selling android phones at the time. There were millions sold, enough the justify an update. This makes me want to stay away from Samsung, who's to say they won't give the same treatment to the galaxy s 3 or note 2 after a year?
"They" will. Once a phone is no longer "new" the carriers don't have incentives to pay the manufacturer to update the phone. The manufacturer has no incentive once the phone has faded to the point that it no longer can demand a high price from the carrier.
It's not a Samsung thing. It will be for any market players.
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development
Yeah this isnt something new look at what Motorola just did. They promised ICS to several devices and just went back on that. There is no implied or contractual standing that manufacturers have to provide a update beyond what the phone is shipped with. I know there is some agreements between Google and the manufacturers but with what Motorola just did its proof that is easy to get out of.
When you buy a pc do you get guaranteed updates to the OS for free? Im glad we have the ability to build our own versions and install on the devices.
Look at all the people that bought a brand new PowerPC Mac, then Mac switched to Intel/X86 chips. Sure, for the first year or so, they got updates and people made software for both PowerPC and Intel Mac's, but that faded quick and now the new MacOS's are Intel only and all new Mac software is for Intel based Mac's. People bought a $4000 Mac and got screwed 6 months later.
And as stated above, it's not just Samsung, as I said, my Alcatel got screwed up. They even promised a 2.3upgrade, then poof, nothing. Luckily a devoted XDA dev made a 2.3 for it, but again, it's in the hands of Devs, not the company.

Who's to say LG or HTC or Motorola or Huawi or whatever phone you go to, won't do the same thing with the new phone you buy that's not a Samsung.
This is exactly why I'm just going with the next nexus. Either that or the iPhone. Say what you want to about the iPhone but it simply works. It doesn't need custom rooms, hacking, or anything for it to just work smooth, fast, and have amazing battery life. I don't care if it doesn't have the same customizations..I don't spend my entire day customizing my phone. The only time I ever bother doing that is right after I flash a rom and after that I just use it..

I don't care if it doesn't have the same customizations..I don't spend my entire day customizing my phone. The only time I ever bother doing that is right after I flash a rom and after that I just use it..

The problem is they get left out too. Siri comes out, won't run on older phones. Next year IOS 7 will be out and will have a bunch of new stuff that only works on the iPhone 5 and 6, and some things that will work on the 4G, and maybe a few things that work for the 4 and 3's. They leave people old in the cold with older phones just as much as Android does. Oh, let's make new phones "Retina" display, then make "retina" only new apps, anyone with a year old iphone 4gs, gets screwed because their phone isn't "retina".
Add that to having to jailbreak a phone just to install a 3rd party app, no thanks. Least we can check a box to install 3rd party apps, not jump through hoops. Despite the fact that jailbreaking is legal, Apple makes it harder and harder every time. Jailbreak your phone just to install an app that wasn't approved from the Apple store, then try and get service on the phone, even for a hardware problem and see the trouble you get.
You guys don't understand how these updates work.
Even if the specs are the same, sometimes is not possible to update. Why? Because the phone has to update from gingerbread to ICS WITHOUT a data wipe. Updates always keep your data intact. With only 512mb of RAM its not possible to patch on a brand new os on top of the old one and retain all of the users data.

T-Mobile did supply FOTA updates. It was quite possible to do it as they "reserved" the space in the OEM ROMs using a couple files in, as I recall, /data/fota/ which were recreated on boot if they did not exist.
One of the early "discoveries" of the SGS4G was that a user could recover something like 150 MB of space by deleting them and making the directory read-only.
I'm not sure why, within reason, the amount of RAM has much to do with the amount of user data. Only the system and system-app data would need to be migrated. Am I missing something in my thinking?
Edit: Credit may be wrong, but that was one of the earliest threads I found referring to it.
Its all about the money
Just wait for the Aries kernel. Don't even bother waiting for Samsung. AOSP based is better and honestly TouchWiz is nasty, so who cares?

I gave up on my G2x. Not going to wait for fully functioning ICS or even JB anymore. Even if we get it blue tooth will still be messed up.I'm Selling my P999 on EBAY. Never looking back. Until then I’m rocking a Dell Venue Pro and I'm liking the Windows Phone 7.5 , however I have to go back to Android though because WP7 is sooo limited and boring. Thinking about the L9. Not going to get a Nexus 4 because you cant replace the battery...no SDcard slot... and super crappy battery life. No Thanks.
Any of you guys getting a T-Mobile Optimus l9? What's your take on it?
Probably picking up a GS3 tomorrow. L9 is just another LG pile of failure. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I was thinking about the S3 but I decided I don't want town any phone with an Amoled display. The screens don't last long. That's exactly why HTC stopped making phones with Amoled. I'll stick to the longer more durable proven IPS displays. Samsung's answer is to make a Pentile RGBG display to offset the loss in colors over time and that's the best they can do right now. Amoled technology just isn't there yet. I'll wait until they can get all of the colors to be at least at 50,000 hours of operation until then Amoled is a no go.
ROFL. I just sold my G2x for $149.00 just a minute ago. I love Ebay!

All I ever wanted was ICS at least. Gingerbread sucks. At least the l9 gets 4.0.4. Hopefully at least one upgrade down the road to 4.1.1.

Just sold one of my g2xs and now have a rooted HTC one s with jb 4.1.1 ROM. I like the g2x, never had any of the problems others had, and I prefer the gb UI to the jb UI. Also the voice search worked a lot better on the g2x, and the g2x is smaller. But I give up on the g2x ever getting jb, even though it's basically capable, and the upgrade to jb makes for a tremendous improvement in user satisfaction as related to speed and smoothness. LG has effectively cheated is out of a year more of use of our g2xs unless we are willing to put up with the maddening stuttering of the pre-jb Android, which comes off as a kluge compared to jb.
But beyond the improvement in speed and smoothness, every iteration of Android since gb has been a step downward in usability. The Android UI is now a make-work project for designers at Google and while it might look better, it's become harder and less intuitive to use. Leave well alone, for goodness' sake.
The One s is about as big a phone as is comfortable for me, and much thinner and lighter than the g2x. It looks like a skinny adolescent Nexus One. I had to take some shears to my SIM card, and it doesn't have an interchangeable battery or SD card, don't care about the battery but would like to have a SD card. The One s was about $100 less than a Nexus 4, and was available now. Haven't seen any problems with the AOKP jb ROM.
The speed of this phone plus the accessibility of TMO's 41Mbps HSPA+ network makes differences in browser speed very noticeable. That plus the impossibility of seeing bookmarks in list form in the jb browser means I'm now using Dolphin and Maxthon. The bookmarks thing is another fail of Google trying for what it thinks is good design. The apps drawer also now swipes sideways, what for?, and the launcher functionality in general. Including the handling of apps and widgets, has become very awkward. Thank goodness for nova and launcher pro.
I reckon it'll be a lot harder to get reliable updates for my rooted one s than for the Nexus 4 but the speed of the one s with 4.1.1 is very satisfying and the UI changes Google is now making are making the experience worse. So I have no incentive to update beyond my jb version, so no incentive to get a Nexus 4.
End of rant.

Well I guess Google can't please everyone. Personally, I dislike GB and everything before it. JB is such a huge improvement that I prefer the broken JB ROMs to the fully functional GB ROMs.
I have found nothing unintuitive about the operating system so far. I've always been able to figure out how to do something by just doing what makes sense to me. I'm not a big user of bookmarks, mostly because nowadays the predictive URL history is good enough to make opening bookmarks slower than just typing a few letters into the URL bar and pressing enter. However, I don't mean to say they're completely useless; I just don't use them. In any case, Android was made in such a way that you have access to different browsers and can integrate them as if they're the native browser, so that problem has a solution. With the app drawer, sideways is much more consistent. You only ever access the app drawer from the home screen, which scrolls sideways, so it only makes sense to not make the user have to start scrolling a different way.
I don't intend for this post to say, "your opinion is wrong!" so don't take it that way. I just wanted to point out it's kind of unfair to hate on Google and call it their fault just because you don't like something. JB has been called the best thing to happen to Android by almost everyone I've talked to about it, so I think it's safe to say it's just personal preference that you don't like it.
To each his own
Nexus 4 would've been the way to go. Battery is lasting just as long as it was with my G2x... Around 15 - 16 hours with decent usage. (Lots of Facebook, XDA, browsing with Chrome, some Instagram, and 200+ sms messages.)

In mint condition. No scratches or blemishes what so ever, and to me that is amazing since its been a love and hate relationship with it. I felt like I wanted to throw it somtimes, lol! I dislike Gingerbread, but for other people its fine. I just want a phone with ICS fully working at least. I'm eyeing that L9. I was thinking about the Nexus 4 but too many people complaining about battery life. The L9's battery lasts all day with heavy use. The lack of an SD slot on the Nexus 4 doesn't help in its favor either.
Don't get me wrong, in some ways I'll miss my G2x. Sadly it's a good phone that LG left behind without an ICS update. It's a constant reminder that I'd like to forget.

I got mine for 200 with a 100 mail in rebate. Plus $50 gift card for a new line.
My bill is only 20 more than my 30 dollar unlimited plan and I actually have minutes now.
I sold my G2x for $120 cash, I got it for $150 back in June 2011 so it wasn't a huge loss.

Stay away from AMOLED phones. Why buy a phone with a display that will decay over time? LCD technology is well proven and mature, no screen decay and burn in. The color blue on an AMOLED display still suffers from the fastest decay. 12,000 hours or so. I say F-That! AMOLED is just not ready for consumer use yet. I shudder to think of anyone getting a AMOLED TV as well. If you want somthing that lasts stay LCD/IPS in a phone. Stay away from AMOLED devices right now.

I've had a couple replacements, and t-mobile sent me a new replacement in a box that I want expecting I was assuming ib was going to just receive a refurb well, since getting my replacement the screen is the best one I have had on a note so far and is build quality is amazing. I also love the amount of updates i have received since buying this beast fix almost all of the small problems I did have with it this is the first Android phone I haven't wanted to root just downloaded package disabler pro and got rid of bloat and it's fast and battery life is pretty good and I love wireless charging and fast charging. Time for a Note 5 love in!
After coming from a OnePlus, this is genuinely the first phone in years that I haven't felt the need to root and modify. Clearly there are some KNOX issues with doing that, but even so I'm really happy with the camera, battery, and general performance. Glad to see Marshmallow coming next month which should make things even better.

Please get that non sense out if here, it's not a slap in "hard core" note users faces, it is still a very powerful phone with great battery life and future proof to and extent. You think because Samsung got rid of a plastic back you can remove and a slot to expand your memory it was an intentional slap In note users faces, i just don't see the the logic. Samsung was imo was trying to get with the times, also every with and exception of a few oems have enclosed batteries and no expandable memory. I think LG is probably one of the few who didn't get rid of it and look how well the G4 did for them TERRIBLE if you read the G4 forum there are nothing going but complaints every where bad screen, bad battery life, runs hot etc. On a side note I'm in software development and thus phone would not interfere in anyway with me using it to help with my job. So shame on sour Note users who do not like progression.

Not sure which jedi mind funked into believing the removal of features equal progress but you have been severely misinformed. And I know your influence wasn't from the darks side because Apple doesn't remove features, they only steal them from android and present it to the mindless mass as Innovation. Enjoy your sealed battery and 64 measly gb of storage. Just be sure to buy a memory stick to shove up your glass... and while your at it, go ahead and fork over that extra doe for more data bc you'll be spending more time in that lovely cloud... and don't forget to insurance because not only is that $800 device the most fragile device on the market but it also a non removable battery constantly depleting behind that nice shinny glass back... and don't get in the habit of recording in 4k because it will make short order of that 32/64 gb, much like gear vr files.

Can we keep this thread on topic thank you, I didn't make it to have people come here to complain about how Samsung did them wrong personally. Oh and Bruce Lee Roy you have ever some major issues not a phone that "lost features", if a phone a a thread about how much people like or love it make you this much of an geriatric butthead you have other things you need to be seen for, maybe a therapist will do you some good. I had almost every top android device from late 2011 to late 2014. When iPhone got with the program and offered a 5.5" device and 128gb of internal memory I jumped ship for a bit. Just missed the camera, fast charging, and little tweaks you could do with Android so back at the note 5 I am and loving it. Truly disgusted they offer a 128gb S6 but leave the real flagship stuck at 64gb but I'll get over it.
Cant wait for the MM update and the Note6 eventually.
