Hi,
I am currently in China and bought a TF300T, but although I did foresee it might not have the google apps included, I foolishly thought it might be simpler to install them. I read a bunch of threads, it seems that it is possible to change the firmware, but I have a question, what is the difference between a WW (I assume world wide?) and US file?
Also...
Is there a simpler way to install them?
Finally, the thread I read mentioned this doesn't void the warranty, is it true? I don't have a lot of hope for the warranty anyhow because in a few weeks/months I will go back to my country (Mexico) and I don't think they will honor it there... I bought the tablet here because right now in Mexico the TF101 is going for more than 500 USD, they are not even selling the TF300. We get robbed badly with electronics.
Thanks in advance
Firmwares updates come from Asus so there is nothing wrong with updating. You will have warranty in México as long as you keep your receipt and warranty card you can take it to an Asus service center for warranty repair for 1year. I'm not quite sure if there are any real differences between WW and US firmwares, living in Mexico you will probably have the WW firmware, so I suggest you just stay on that one. I don't understand why you say it didn't come with gapps it does come with gmaps, Gmail, gtalk, Google plus etc.

no, right now I have the CN firmware, which has baidu and some other chinese apps...
Ah I see, then you should flash the latest WW firmware.

Am I still about to change to different region? I already upgraded it to JB OTA recently. Thanks.

if it was the tg version or a phone using the "wrong" region firmware could mean having the wrong 3g baseband and thus losing connection but as your tablet has no 3g this shouldnt be a problem.
probably you'll need to download the extended languages file from play store for getting chinese characters and keyboard.

Leaving the charger plug format and voltage aside, are there any caveats to using a US bought TF700 in Europe? Any differences in firmware? Will it be able to get OTAs for Europe (WW) or just US ones?
Thx!
Indeed disregarding the potentially annnoying issues you already seem to know about you should be fine. Obviously, the warranty is going to be a tough cookie, and I wouldn't expect that to go smoothly, if at all. The OTA is based on your device's installed version, I think, so you should be able to receive updates when they come out. That being said, there doesn't seem to be that much of an issue with flashing another firmware -- several amongst us, d14b0ll0s foremost springs to mind, have done is a rescue scenario. You will have another default language, but all apps, drivers, kernel and such seem to be the same.
EDIT: To clarify: I think you will receive US OTAs by default, but you an probably flash a WW firmware and get WW OTAs from then on. (Simply flashing a stock firmare doesn't require an unlocked bootloader and therefore doesn't prevent you from receiving OTAs).)

hmm, interesting
noticed on the Asus support site they advise against flashing FWs across SKUs:
http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_Infinity_TF700T/#download
※Firmware update cannot do *SKU conversion* and downgrade version.
Wrong SKU may cause update failure, You can only update your SW version on the Same SKU
*How to check SW version of your Eee Pad Transformer Infinity TF700T?
Path: [Settings]-->[About tablet]-->Build number
Example: You should be able to see the build number WW_epad-9.X.X.X_2012xxxx, where “WW” means SKU.
Can anyone please clarify this?
With phones you have different RUUs (HTC's packages for example) in different world areas, and they have different radios (baseband). Now, if the TF700T does not have LTE/3G/4G, does it care if it's updated with another SKU's FW?
Even with "only" wlan/bt radios onboard, afaik US uses a slightly different 2.4GHz spectrum range than Europe...could that be the reason why flashing across SKUs may fail?
Hello folks. I've unlocked my Infinity using the Asus unlock tool. Well, all I really wanted was to root it (which I did) but I got the two mixed up and I also unlocked it first. I will never be loading a custom rom therefore I'd rather keep mine locked. This also voids my warranty and I'm afraid I won't be able to receive OTA's.
Is there ANY way to lock the bootloader back up like it was from the factory? If I should keep the pad unlocked, convince me why.
Thanks for any help!
No, there isn't. Your S/N is already in their database, too. You may use manual firmware updates from their site and they may still respect the warranty (to certain extent?).
There was enough threads on the two for you not to confuse them (as there is about what you can do with being unlocked), so you pretty much rushed into it. Most likely this will not make your life with the Infinity harder, however.
Dammit. I'm an idiot. Now no OTA for me. Well, I can still return it to where I bought it from. I wish I had paid more attention.

Hi
I'm reading the threads to get ready to root my infinity but I wonder what will happen on my warranty. I know that this has already talked about many times, but I have 2 reasons to ask again :
1/ I'm not living in the US and i wonder if root is fine for warranty in my country (France). Any french here that know about it ?
2/ i have found 2 threads saying the contrary :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833212
Note: Rooting will NOT void your Warranty!!!
==> root ok
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1758160
Note in chapter 6. Disable remote management that allows ASUS (or anybody in charge of their servers) to track, lock or wipe your device over-the-air or steal your data, which has been confirmed ASUS is doing: read the whole story about warranty voided because of rooting here.
==> root ko
Thanks for your opinion

Nobody can proof that you're rooted because you can easily unroot so therefore even if it's not allowed no problem to do it.
Unlocking is a different story though.

Some say root doesn't void warranty as long as you don't get caught.
others say you do and Asus is tracking you if you root.

In Norway were I live Asus have tried earlier to use this as a reason for voiding the warranty. This did not go over well in the Norwegian high court and it is decided that (in short) as long as asus can't prove that the problem with the device is directly linked to the rooting then the warranty is still valid. On a fun side: In Norway we also have something that resembles warranty by law. This is for 5 years.
It all depends on where you bought the device.
(the asus device tracker can't be used by asus to check the device status without our consent (every time) due to privacy laws in norway.
Thanks for your answers, I don't know more if i may root my infinity, I might send thé question to Asus France and have a pas close reading of the warranty paper i got when i purchased the threads tab.

Perhaps if rooting is of no benefit to you then it may good to wait.
I rooted last night.
Rooting is beneficial to a lot of applications.
If you just use the tablet for simple tasks and don't really need to change things in root then perhaps not rooting will cause less worry.
*it is very easy to un-root if necessary...
No I'm interesting in rooting also as it will allow me to do more customizing. And anyway I'm working in compting and i like testing new stuff.

Bump, will get my TF700 tomorrow, and really wondering about Asus Device Tracker. One question :
IF I get the tab, root on ICS, then OTArootKeeper and update to JB (no unlock, just root).
A month later, i need a repair. Will Asus say my warranty is void? Any feedback about this? Are they really checking if the tab is rooted? This seems crazy... and scary.
Just thought I'd let you know of a little issue. I bought my TF300T in Japan (love this tablet) and I'm still awaiting an OTA for JB. I emailed Asus 'customer service' to ask them for a rough schedule, they fobbed me off stating that I was to phone the local Asus office, I tried the number they gave me and lo-and-behold, it's dead. So I emailed back a rather testy email (I'm rather sick of them pushing paying customers to the back-burner, I had issues with my TF101 too)
and was yet again fobbed off with a generic 'we'll sort it' response.
The long and short of this moan is to find out if anybody can find out the release date for JB OTA in Japan, I'll check the Asus website again soon and I've looked on Google, so my skills may be lacking. I'm reticent to unlock, because of the issues I had with my TF101.
Many thanks.

unless you need japanese software, you could try the method to switch your firmware to US or WW, then apply the update for those (no unlocking needed)... I did that with the chinese firmware, specially because I wanted to get rid of the chinese apps and have google's. Lots of people are not happy with JB, so give that some thought too... personally I have had no issue other than a little less battery life. No big deal because I don't use the tablet heavily, maybe if I did I would have a different opinion :S
It is worth consideration, thanks for your reply. I'll look into changing my software to WW, I don't really need the JP version. I was actually unaware that you can change without unlocking, so thank you for that nugget of information.

I RMAed my first TF300T and got another refurbished one but this one doesn't seem to want to receive OTA updates (I updated manually), the bootloader will not unlock (error), and asus device tracker tells me im entering the wrong serial. I know others have had a very similar issue and I am wondering if a fix has been found or if I will have to RMA again.

Some one else had similar issue but they unlocked the device then sent it in for rma which costed them like 200 but long story short they replaced the board which caused him to lose unlocked but device still showed was unlocked in asus' system so they wouldn't help him. Maybe be similar for you because its a refurb could have been unlocked by previous owner and not fixed properly if it was by asus or something but probably still shows its unlocked in there system. I'd report to asus the experience your have and see what they say and if possible I'd probably rma again if it came that way. What the point in keeping device that came broken already especially if someone elses error. Bty no fix for that yet and probably wont be for a while. Also depending on who you have to rma with might be difficult if thats the only issue i'd start looking for other issues like random reboot, bootloop, hdmi, etc. Just something to give them for a sure replacement. All thats your choice though if it worth going through the trouble again. Took me 2 weeks went nuts without it.

i have the same issue currently it a rma that was fixed say but it wasnt unlocked or anything was random booting so i tried to update it and bricked it well now i cant unlock it just says error
long story short: it took incredible three RMAs for me to get my bootloader unlocked. gotta hate those idiots at czech repair place. but kudos goes to helpful customer care.
