iphone 3gs and the infinity bluetooth?? - Asus Transformer TF700

I have unlimited internet on my iphone 3gs and Im trying to connect it with the infinity via bluetooth (Personal hotspot). The iphone wont connect to the inifiny saying that it is unsupported. Anyone tried pairing the infinity and iphone 3gs to pair succesfully?

If you still don't have a reply later when I'm home I can have a fiddle with my dads 3gs and see if I can get it to work. Good luck till then if you're still trying

I had the same issue trying to pair my unlimited internet 3gs with my prime... I dont know if it has something to do with the version of your JailBreak or the tethering app your using... at first my prime couldnt see the 3gs, and I tried and tried and tried, then I gave up... After an update to MyWi 5.2 my Prime still couldnt locate the 3gs, then out of the blue I tried it again after cold booting the prime and hard resetting the 3gs -- IT WORKED, but then I noticed that it would connect for a few minutes and then drop... the 3gs, for whatever reason, was dropping the signal causing the Prime to disconnect. In order to reconnect, I had to keep hard resetting the 3gs. Over time the connection time would increase, but I dont know how or why that was happening. Then I started having issues with my phone not operating correctly so I eventually removed the Jail Break and I no longer tether, but I am about to try it again with a different JailBreak...
I just realized... Is your phone even jailbroken or are you paying extra to tether? Either way, try a HARD reset on your phone and see if that helps.
Also, if you are JailBroken, if you install more than 1 tethering app, even if you try them out and delete them afterwards, they leave files behind that can cause problems with other tetheing apps. Specifically, dont install TetherMe and then try to install MyWi... that was something I did, so then I reinstalled the JailBreak, but not sure if that was the cause or not, since it eventually started working.
Hope this is helpful!

Also, if you havent tried it, you might want to try disabling wireless when you turn on the bluetooth. I've been reading that there are still issues with the BT/Wireless running at the same time. Mostly, a huge decrease in wifi performance when using BT headphones... that might be an issue too, but you should still be able to pair it...

Im only using tetherme and the iphone 3gs has only the usb and bluetooth capabilities (tried with other devices and works). The iphone 3gs, 4, and 4S all says TF700T not supported. So Im stuck on how to get internet access via bluetooth. If I had mywi it would be better since is can transmit a wifi hotspot, but the mywi ran out of trials and requires you to pay for the app .

Wow, didn't know there was incompatibility... Well, when I couldn't get tetherme to work I actually paid the $20 for mywi, so if your up for that, it just might work for you. FWIW Tetherme never worked for me on the tf201.

Here's an idea - actually pay for MyWi! It's a one-time fee - if you are going to use, then pay for it!
Do you think the authors work for free? If you built something useful, wouldn't you want to get paid for your hard work?

LOL Jtr* ... you go guy...> tell 'em !!
ONE OF MAJOR ISSUES for WIFI + BT in ASUS (still remains) is that they SHARE ONE COMMON Antenna (hardware)
so BT and WIFI issues remain in TF700.....> my repeated requests to Mr AusUS Person who is regualr contirbutor to XDA forums = remains UNANSWERED. Not sure if ASUS will or CAN fix that. The common SINGLE wire antenna has been there from Tf100x and even in SLATE - the windows version.
A major pain for me personally - and i am able to live with it ! > but then am also got eye out for GALAXY NOTE 10.1 = so will see!
SO might be wise to SHUT OFF wifi part when doing 'tethering' ..... works for me - to SPRINT
cheers

Well my 3gs is going to be replaced soon as the iphone 5 hits gets released only reason why I chose NOT TO PAY FOR MYWI and NEED a TEMPORARY FIX. Tetherme works for me on other devices and my brother has the iphone 4 and the same tetheme app allows his to become a wifi hotspot and I was able to connect to his phone fine, just the connection via bluetooth option doesnt work.
EDIT: Nevermind my got it to work. I just needed to do a reset on the tablet and reboot the iphone 3gs. Didnt even need to shutdown the wifi on the infinity, then I used the infinity to pair to the iphone 3GS and wala got a connection and my infinity is using the iphone's 3GS.

That still doesn't give you the right to steal the app... There is no defense here - nice try. If you want to use the product (even as a temporary fix), you still need to pay for it! Geez, the nerve of some people!

No Ad-HOC in leaked 3.1

Since I haven't seen it mentioned in any of the rather deep 3.1 threads, as far as I can tell the 3.1 leaked firmware has not added ad-hoc networking support. Tested using what I have here, HTC Touch Pro 2 using the built in WiFi router, my NookColor CM7 and the Transformer.
TP2 advertises the network, NookColor sees it just fine but the Transformer's got nothing.
Just thought I'd save you all flipping through hundreds of posts to find out it's not working yet, at least in my configuration.
i noticed that. and replace the wpa_supplicant, managed to make it work again.

Ad-hoc is just a method of sharing an internet connection locally without a traditional infrastructure associated with it. Most phones now a day's don't use it which is why you're EVO can chat it up with your Transformer. Specific network configurations and devices demand it though such as my Windows Mobile 6.5 Touch Pro 2 that only seems to want to advertise the network in Ad-Hoc mode and won't enable bluetooth tethering as far as I can tell.
There was some speculation that it might be added in this release but it seems there was no such luck. I've been trying to hold off on rooting until we had a stable 3.1 build from Asus since it doesn't seem like something I'll want to do over and over.

Yup! Go team SERO! Besides, the TP2 really isn't too bad as a phone. It get the internet well enough for me to look stuff up when I'm on the road, GPS works dandy, texting is great with the keyboad built in. I'd rather have android and all the aps that come with it but with the money I save I can buy a new high end tablet every year or two so it's not too painful... until I try and tether the two at least.

Is Wireless Tether working 100%?

Anyone know? This is a must for me, and I know on my Rezound we never quite got it working with password protection! I'll be on the Verizon version, but I don't think it should matter too much.

I personally haven't had any problem being slow or dropping. Coming from a nexus s where i had wireless tether for free and was flawless, wifi tether app is just as good in my experience so far. I use it almost every day. It was one of the reasons i was hesitant about changing phones so i was thrilled with how well it works.
so the question is how trackable is this tether? i know with the x2 i had to mod my radio card to do it right, is this any where near the same?
My handset (I'm in Scotland) came with wifi tether installed natively-no root. However, it was far from flawless; the connection dropped on a very regular basis. The fix was easy though-I installed foxfi and it has been perfect since. And, no-I have no connection with foxfi!
Working great here (rooted with native tether hack) with Transformer Prime. Connection solid.
I'm using it just fine. I changed my device type to a Galaxy Nexus within the app, and now I'm tethering to Androids too, not just iOS devices.

Tether your TF700 to your Android phone via bluetooth - works great!

FYI - in case anyone is interested, I was able to easily tether my TF700 to my Android phone over bluetooth. It'll even share your phones wifi connection via bluetooth! Extremely easy to setup and it just works...
1. Install FoxFi on your phone
2. Install "PDANet for Tablets" on your TF700 (available for free in Play Store)
3. Select "Activate Bluetooth DUN" in FoxFi on the phone
4. Run PDANet for Tablets on the TF700 and configure it for bluetooth.
5. Simple pair the tablet and phone from within PDANet for Tablets.
6. That's it - you'll be tethered to your phone via bluetooth!
I can't believe how well it works.... Enjoy!
Also - Can do the same thing for wifi tethering as well. The nice thing about bluetooth tethering though is that you can actually share the wifi connection on your phone via bluetooth (something you can't do with normal wifi tethering)... Although, I guess if your phone can connect to wifi, you could just connect your tablet directly to the same wifi! But, it works nonetheless!

Well, if you mean the "paid" hotspot, this method is free. Plus, bluetooth tethering should be easier on the battery as well.
Agreed about with sharing wifi over bluetooth - like I said, it works, but if your phone could connect to wifi, your TF700 should be able to connect directly to the wifi as well. Only purpose for that would be if your TF was not "allowed" to connect to the wifi due to some policy (but your work-supplied phone could) - you could just connect to your phone for wifi access...
But again, the main purpose would be for free tethering (instead of paying a monthly fee).

I paired my phone to my tablet without any of the apps mentioned and was able to get online using the phone's 3G connection. I do have an older phone (DroidX), maybe that makes a difference as far as not needing PDANet, etc.
Forgot not everyone has the ability to do free hotspot. My phone hasn't had a stock ROM since the first handful of stable ROMs were available.

Also, just thought of a use for the share wifi feature. AT&T has alot of free hotspots that are free to ATT devices only, often found at McDonalds. There is often regular free wifi, but the ATT only is less crowded and I usually see faster speeds. I suppose in this scenerio it would be useful too.
It's useful if your traveling with kids and they want to download a new app or something. I have actually found quite a few uses including at work to use it. I just use the hotspot though. The only bad part is that it kills your battery FAST so make sure you have a charger.
I just use Widgetsoid on my Galaxy Nexus to tether.

Am I missing something here? I thought this was a standard feature or is this method required for carriers that ban tethering?
I have a galaxy s2 running Samsung stock 4.03 on Telstra Australia and I tether by Bluetooth all the time to my Tf700t by just enabling it in the phone tethering options, pair devices and connect. Done. No hacks or apps required
you dont need any of those apps just sync phone and tablet via bluetooth and it will ask if you want bluetooth to share internet

Either I'm missing something or this is *not* a "Standard" feature for all carriers. In my case, I'm using a "pre-paid" phone from VIrgin Mobile. It's $35/month for unlimited everything (except phone minutes - you get 300 anytime minutes). I certainly can "pair" my devices via bluetooth, but I don't get an option to share my internet (and even thought the devices did "pair", they will not "connect" to each other).
I do know that "tethering" was an extra monthly option in my case (an extra $15/month option!).
Again, I don't see any way to tether without using these apps. The phone itself is an HTC EVO V 4G (re-badged EVO 3D) - If I try to enable the wifi "portable hotspot mode" I get an error and it just won't work. Cannot find a way to share the internet via blutooth either (without said apps).
So, I do believe that this method will be useful for some as I don't believe that you can tether for free with all carriers.
Again, unless I'm missing something!

I tried to tether my iPhone with optus prepaid and got an error saying it was not activated by the carrier so I am sure android must have this carrier dependant feature in place. I had to install a hack on my iPhone to get around it so I can why you may need apps to get around it for Android as well. Just thankful my carrier allows free tethering a stupid idea IMO to not allow it

As I mentioned, I use wifi tethering. I also have the GNote (ATT Version, I717) running King Kang AOKP rom and never have an issue. If you flash ROMs you may be better off just using wifi as it'll autoconnect when you pop the wifi from your phone and no pairing and connecting and pin code mess. Just a thought.

Tethering TO the Infinity

Since I'm stuck on Sprint for a little while longer, I have to use my phone to tether my TF700T unto the internet. However, it doesn't seem like that's working, as when I plug my phone into my tablet's dock, nothing happens. Is there no innate support for this, internet over USB, at all? I know there are USB-to-Ethernet adapters, but this is a little different.
Depending on your phone you could also try wifi or Bluetooth tethering.

I don't know about sprint's policies, but isn't wireless Hotspot an option
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
Yes, but I also don't want to be broadcasting a direct connection to the internet. Hence, USB.
Why are you worried about broadcasting? Just encrypt your connection, don't broadcast your SSID, and only allow your tablet's MAC to connect. There's no way anyone else will poach (or even see) your hotspot like this, if that's what you're worried about...
Because I'm trained with CEH and Net+ certifications and have been paranoid since the age of 3. Humor me.
Usb tethering does not work in any of the transformers, there have been a few work arounds i believe but nothing stable, the only stable way is as suggested, Wifi or bluetooth, and being an Internet security Professional my self, With all that was suggested would work, for sprint look up a program, Wifi tether for root users, this allows everything they suggested, though I do understand the leakage, best i can suggest is either a VPN tunnel if this has been implemented in the tf700 as it had to be user cooked for the tf201

Are you a spy or something? Lol. I really wouldn't worry so much about it. With the precautions I mentioned only a super computer could hack in quickly, and since it'll be a mobile connection you'll be just fine (just be on the lookout for any suspicious vans following you)
With WPA2 PSK encryption even the most powerful desktop would take a few days to crack the key... it could be done, but someone would REALLY want to. Awful lot of work for free 4G internet, that they'd have to follow you, and you'd be notified if they did connect and could just turn off/change the password.

This ^^, and add to this the fact that anyone going to such lengths to just get a free mobile connection will probably either kidnap and torture you for your WPA(2) key, or will have access to 140 botnets all over the world anyway and is on the verge of taking over entirely.
Now I get to think of it, it might also be a nerdy no-lifer, and since the world is teeming with those, you might actually run into a non-trivial risk, hehehe.
There's a few statements wrong with all of these posts, namely, that if you think Sprint doesn't have a backdoor logging all of your info to the government you are mistaken. That being said, they aren't looking for warez or the pr0n you download.
There was a tunneling program I had a while ago, if you need it let me know I will see if I can find it. If you are using the ICS version for your E4GT you will want to change your phone within the wifi tether programs options to Samsung Galaxy Nexus CDMA/LTE in order for it to work. Foxfi doesn't work on the ICS versioins yet. From what it sounds like you don't need to be told to use WPA2 and no SSID and only your MAC addresses accepted. Foxfi does alert the user when a connection is made by a large beep or vibration, I can't remember if the wifi tether does ( i do believe it is an option however). If you made your static ip range only have one address, that could probably help as well. Wish I could be more useful

A backdoor isn't for logging, and paranoid a bit? I can guarantee you Sprint isn't sending all of it's users data info to the government. That would be a HUGE amount of data and they're not going to incur that sort of cost. The government has it's own filters satellite/ground transmissions pass though, it's not the providers responsibility to capture that info...

More than likely, it's 3G internet the person would be trying to steal since LTE is only available currently in Kansas City and WiMax is only able in limited areas, and some are spotty at that.
I'm well aware of trying to be careful. But I don't see it as much of worry as s security breach issue. I think he's more worried about Sprint finding out he's doing the hotspot service without paying for it, which is a violation of the TOS and could terminate his contract and give him an early termination fee.

Tether my TF700 to my Droid Incredible?

This is my first post so I hope I'm in the right category. I've read thru several posts on this subject and I thought I had it right but it dosn't work. I have FoxFi bt installed on the phone (incredible) and PDAnet tablet installed on the 700. Everything is paired but the 700 dosn't contect to the phone. get the app called widgetsoid. when you configure it, add Portable Wifi Hotspot. Turn it on, and it will ask you to add your password and you can change the name of the hotspot. now, check the wifi on your infinity and select the new hotspot. it will connect.

Thank you for your response. I tryed this but widgetsoid does not ask me to input a password. It turns on the hot spot but I can't log in because I don't know the password!. There is no "tools" sign next to the hot spot configure check box like there is for all the other switches.

I refuse to pay an additional charge to Verizon for a WiFi hot spot for the same data. Anyone solve this tehering issue?

Dude, just root your phone and use wifi tether app from the market.

I agree with triple S, just root your phone if you don't plan on returning it. My rooted droid 3 on verizon rules when i need connection on my tablet on the go.

sorry, go to Settings (not the app, the device), More (right under Data Usage), Tethering & portable Hotspot, check the box and configure. now, when you add the widget, you just click to turn off and on. Widgetsoid is not needed, but it makes activating the hotspot much easier.

Guys,
Thanks for the info.
I have been trying to avoid rooting. If I do it just gives me admin privlages right? Then what do I do? I am a noob.
Have you tried connecting them via Bluetooth and sharing the connection. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. There is a thread on it here somewhere.

Yea, I got Widgetsoid installed and operating. It didn't fool Verizon. Got a message from them as soon as I connected. "WiFi hot spot cost more p/month..sign-up?". So that fix is out.
Chief Geek,
Yes, I did follow that link along with another one (58 pages of reading) that talked about the FoxFi/PDAnet tablet set up. It configures/pairs ok but will not connect. It has to be something unique to the Incredible because a bunch of other phones work fine.
Thanks a whole bunch for all your help guys! Hopefully this thread will stay alive and someone has found a way to do it. I'm not going to give Verizon more money for the same data.

PdaNet Tablet, PDANet+, FoxFi Tethering
Hey There-
I just sucessfully tethered my TF700T with my Droid Incredible 2 over bluetooth. Interesting thing here is neither of my devices are rooted and I'm on Verizon. Here's how I did it:
Install PdaNet Tablet on the TF700. Note the "Tablet". This is not the same program as PdaNet or PdaNet+
Install PdaNet+ on the HTC phone. Note the "plus". This is not the same program as PdaNet or PdaNet Tablet.
Install FoxFi on both devices (not sure if this is necessary or not; might be as I already had this installed before I suceeded. But I believe the "plus" in PdaNet+ means that it is bundled with FoxFi already)
Background: Now the HTC phone blocks wifi hotspot unless you pay Verizon for tethering (3G Hotspot) so you cannot tether via wifi. But you can using BT.
The Asus pad supposidly needs to be rooted and a file installed it is missing for BT DUN but...I did not find that to be the case. Working fine without root.
How to set it up: First download and install all softwares to the correct devices. On the phone side lauch FoxFi and set it up to use BT. Next launch PdaNet+ and check the box "Activate BT Dun". One the pad side launch PdaNet Tablet. Assuming your pad and phone are already paired via BT, simply press the "Connect" button and a VPN will be established between your phone and pad. Done. Assuming your pad and phone are not already paired, use the "Configure" button to select "Android BT" and follow the onscreen instructions which tell you to do the FoxFi thing on the phone side, enable BT mode, and then scan for the device. Make sure the device is "discoverable" which you set up in your device settings under Networking somewhere.
Viola-The pad notification bar shows "PdaNet VPN link active" and "No internet connection" but the browser is active and you can connect to the internet, play store, and share the phone data with the tablet. Given my 3G connection is only 384Kbps banwidth, you won't even notice a difference between BT and wifi for tethering as they both exceed the bandwidth of 3G by a large margin (3 Mbps, 64Mbps). On 4G you might notice that BT is slower than wifi. But for free, on Verizon, with bone stock devices how can I complain. Take that Verizon. I will share my data with my devices for free as it should be. Hope they don't block this out at some point but if after testing this out for a week all is good I will drop my 3G hotspot with Verizon and go BT. I think that FCC case actually prevents them from blocking this out. How HTC does it for wifi is another story. Also I made damn sure that no 3G hotspot was active during this setup and evaluation. If after dropping my 3G hotspot and share everything data plan this fails to still work I will report back but I'm confident it still will.
tether still not working

It's probably because you are tethering by Bluetooth. Not all applications take the resultant connection into account as being an internet connection. If you 'd kindly try WiFi tethering (consumes significantly more battery!), that should work.

Thanks for your response.
If I try FoxFi WiFi, the HTC phone says"WiFi mode can not be activated on HTC phones due to an HTC hotspot lock. Please use Bluetooth Mode instead." If I use the Verizion WiFi it wants to charge me for the connection..I have the full unlocked version of PDA+(includes FoxFi).... Still looking for a go-around.

Ah, good ol' Verizon coming in. Wasn't there a court ruling a little while stating that they no were longer allowed to charge for tethering? I can imagine it would take a while to permeate through to their customers, but they should've complied by now. Oh well...
I spotted a program that (presumably) could perform a USB tether -- I'll try and find it for you. I'll reead up a bit on the hotspot lock -- as far as I recall, some programs could circumvent it.
There are no work-around unless you root your device. I'm currently on Verizon with a DROID RAZR Maxx rooted and I use Wireless Tether for root users. Works perfectly for Wifi and I have never been charged.
I'm still trying to find a work-around for the Bluetooth connection for my tablets end, unless of course I'm over thinking it and the Nexus 7 should be able to use the Bluetooth tether with ease. Does anyone on this post happen to know an answer to that? I know PDAnet+ requires a secondary app installed on the N7, and it works, but I don't know if it works well enough for me to want to pay. The other application I've tried is Bluetooth Auto Connect and it's phone version, but that does t seem to work well either.

Is one of the apps not working with Bluetooth tether Google maps? Not working for me, at least...
Do you know a workaround?

Hi there-
Back to edit this post because things have changed. Yes I was able to successfully tether but NOT fully functional I found out. Specifically I couldn't install apps from the market tethered like this! I was able to connect to most sites and browse functionally but wasn't able to download from some sites as well. They've got their hooks in somewhere despite the tether. I have now reactivated my 3g hotspot and am tethering that way for an extra $10/mo as I need the ability to use the market for new apps and updates not to mention downloading things off the internet. I believe the only way to do this for free is to root my DINC2 and install a tun.ko module. Sorry if I got anyones hopes up with this post but it was a failure in the end result without root on phone (despite root on tablet).

That is part of the big problem I found out. A lot of apps look to the system flag for "internet available" or not despite it actually being connected. But since your notification panel says you are not connected to the internet some apps use this indication rather than trying the connection directly.

I tried all of those PDANet and FoxFi solutions to no avail. When I got a tether working it was very slow. I rooted my Evo 4G and use it to to tether my TF700 all day in the office. I've even used it on the train commute home. Sometimes the leap is the best option. //cheers
Hi I've been trying all day to tether with my rooted lte evo. What program are you using?
