HBO GO for android tablets - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was happily surprised to notice this app hit the market a few weeks ago. Unfortunately i downloaded it, and of course it doesn't work. The app loaded fine,..looks great...feels great...but when you go to play a show it plays the HBO promo video and the TV-MA thing and then that's it. Just sits there with a spinning circle.
Anyone have a similar experience?
I'm using a TF101 with revolver ics 4.1.1 with guevors kernel.
Luckily with the recently flashed revolver, the HBO GO website actually works really well. With the stock Honeycomb and Megatron CM9 it was choppy and grainy, and constantly freezing and changing bitrates. Now the video plays perfectly with what looks like 720p, or close to it. Still, the app would be nice because navigating the website through the browser is clunky as hell.
I did manage to get the old app working with the workaround, but the quality is actually not as good as the website , and it's annoying as hell to have to switch back and forth between other apps twice every time you load it.
Anyway, jut wondering if anyone has the same issue. I guess I can live with the site since it actually works well now but the app would be more convenient.

I have the exact problem on a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and the Kindle Fire. have you resolved this issue yet?

Nope. Seeing as the website now works perfectly now, I really can't complain...so I guess I will just deal with it. The app doesn't support hdmi output anyway so..

works fine for me. watching true blood now

I'm getting the same thing. It'll show the HBO clip followed by the rating then just exit back to the app. It was working when it was first released but as of lately can't stream anything.

[Q] (Q) Just bought the transformer

Hey guys I just bought the transformer....updated it to the new firmware....I am having some issues...just want to make sure that is it just me or are these issues common....I just cannot open facebook website on browser....my XDA app, facebook app,and sometimes youtube app force closes....and the HD video on YouTube is not as smooth as it should be......these issues I have experienced so far.....are there any solutions to solve these issues?
It's not just you.
Facebook is horrible. App is ****. Website barely usable. I wouldn't say it doesn't open.. but just not very usable and extremely slow.
Youtube HD stutters and not smooth.
Didn't try XDA.
i'm hopeful that an update will fix this.
So far my experience with Honeycomb suggests that it is buggy as ****. Gives android an awful name.
Why can't google get their act together?!

Browser lag

I'm thinking of buying a Nexus S and my question is, did ICS finally fix the browser lag? I had the NS back when it came out and remember this issue vividly. I'm coming from a G2x.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I know the Galaxy Nexus has zero lag (i have one)
so maybe its iCS
if not..
buy a Galaxy Nexus
Anybody else got any feedback? I'm itching to get my hands on ICS and want to make sure that HW accel in the browser is enabled in the NS before I buy it.
if you explain how lag is manifested i can test it and send report back to you.
Ive got nexus s updated via OTA to ICS
Back in last December, pages that had images were really hard to scroll through. Maybe they even fixed it with an update already, I just don't know. We had the issue open with Google but since moving to the G2x I unsubscribed from it. The browser would scroll at like 1-2fps. I just want to know if the browser is now smooth with h/w accel in ICS.
Somebody posted a vid:
http://vimeo.com/30050423
Also, the comments here say performance has been improved, even though this is just the alpha that was available before and not the OTA. I think I'm going to get it. I'm tired of all the G2x issues.
well i can tell you i often open msn.com desktop version and i didnt notice any lag, except in ICS when you zoom in (using pinch) it blurs images and text (showing them using lower resolution or something, they look very ugly) and once you stop zooming it shows full resolution text/images.
Scrolling through site goes like butter, smooth.
I just tried it one more time, opened yahoo.com full site and also scrolled through without any glitches!
I hope this is what you want, and that i was any help for you!

Yes sir, that is indeed what I wanted to hear! I'll go see if the guy still has the NS for sale then.
Im glad...
although you should be aware of "android os" battery draing bug, i got it, and i read around there is lots of people complaining about it even owners of galaxy nexus. But i believe they will resolve this problems..

CM7 Crunchyroll Force Closes

Video streaming app crunchyroll force closes when attemptkng to watch a video. As it is an app available in the Amazon market, I presume this is a CM7 exclusive issue. Can't find any workaround yet tho, any suggestions would b appreciated.
Just wondering if you got this fixed or not.
ugh, was really looking forward to using cm7 on my new(refurb) kindle fire but I might switch back to stock for this... Anyone know of a different build that might have it working or am I out of luck?
Works on CM9
I'm using this rom

I can confirm the above posters comment.
I am running the very same ROM, and I have gotten the Crunchyroll app to work just fine. Video quality is pretty good, too.

Media Center

Is anyone using their G Tab as a media center with the dock? I am thinking about using it stictly as a tv media center now. If you are, could you tell me how you are using it? Or give me some ideas. Like what apps and ROM to use. My main use will be streaming movies and web surfing. Thank you.

Well I guess there isnt anyone out there that cares about this topic. Any ways, looked for some stuff. Anyone using Plex or XBMC for Android?

I've been using my GTab and dock for watching online video from WatchESPN and Fox Soccer on a TV. Now that there are JB ROMs available with HDMI audio and video I had planned to explore the GTab's full potential. To be honest I didn't know there was an Android version of XBMC. Ironically I've been trying to get XBMC installed on a Raspberry Pi, which I finally got last week. I'll post on how it goes with the GTab. Good luck.
I just load movies onto the micro sd card and use HBO GO.
Also use it and my Gametel pad to play NES, SNES, Sega Master System, and Genesis roms.

Thanks Tobalaz,
What rom are you currently using?
Funny thing is I have been trying to do this since I got my dock about a 1.5 years ago, but have not been completely happy with it.
I am using Frankentab right now, but I should explore other options again (been out of it since mid summer when I got a TF201 and gave the gtab to the kids). The biggest use I get out of it as a media center is for using it as a digital picture frame and for listening to music that I have on the microsd. The dock is plugged into my TV and stereo, so for those two instances it works great.
As for watching movies...I have been slowly converting my DVD collection to .m4v files with handbrake and have been happy with the outcome. The problem is I store the movies on my NAS drive and stream them. When using my TF201 they normally play without a problem. The gtab on the other hand has problems keeping up with the transfer rate and has to buffer frequently making watching a movie this way impossible. I could download the movie to the gtab then watch it seamlessly, but it takes too long to download, and it really defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do.
I will have to try a few other ROM's maybe to see if I get better results.
Cheers!

Black Jellybean.
When I'm playing a game or watching video it works great.
I get freezing between tasks time to time, still messing with settings seeing if its just me or the rom.
It does everything I want it to, and as far as I know is the only 4.o or 4.1 rom with a fully functional hdmi dock.
Been using it about a month, before that I used Beastly/Clemsyn Froyo up until I got my Gametel and for some reason it just flat out refused to sync with my controller (wouldn't recognize as an input device) but it was fantastic for video.
But for what I want, I need to use Black Jellybean or find a Froyo rom that will work, and since I've only been tinkering with BJB for only a month (had my Gametel just a little longer than that) I haven't ran through the 2.2s to find a complete list of compatable roms.
If I can't get it to run smoother I'll probably start toying around with various 2.2 roms again and get my flash back. Who knows, maybe it only seems to run slow for me because B/C was just wicked fast.
As far as the Gametel goes, its a nifty little controller. I went with it over a PS3 controller just because I could snap my Evo 4g into it and play my 8 and 16 bit roms on the go, but its a little smaller than I like. Not bad, but it won't work at all unless you update it via pc once it charges and the instructions are a little bare, but for me experimenting and learning are half the fun of having my electronic toys.
media center dock
Well being honest Frakentab is outdated. (still a great and stable rom) I was using Flashback 10.3 before I updated to the ICS/JB roms. I had smooth buttery playback. HD videos and smooth streaming without any buffering hiccups. As mentioned I have TDRH JB 1.32 remix rom that I am using now. I just set the lcd density to 140 and it seems even smoother! I am actually having one issue and that is music playing when the screen is off. Never had that issue before..I mean you have like a second lag if anything but this is the best JB out there that I have tried. I use netflix, currently no Hulu app that I can use properly..(something seems to keep this rom from playing hulu streams) When it comes to browsers, it kinda lacks because of the constant lagging. It isn't terrible but flash isn't supported on this rom. Work arounds exist but wanted to let you know that. Playback through your sdcard is sweet. I have really no complaints, the better your rom/hd cable/ tv/projector the better. I love my dock it saddens me when I read people don't really get much use out of it...
I wish i could get the Vegan Tab smoothness and stability back with out losing app compatability. It was the best experience for me. Especially for web browsing.

Last time I tried to use the dock for HBO Go I got an error that the app did not support HDMI Out. Has that changed, or how did you get around it?
Update:
I just flashed Smooth_Bean1.3.2 and am streaming a movie from the NAS drive. The buffering is a lot less now. Wish I could overclock higher than 1.2, but for now this is livable. This ROM seems to be working really well so far for everything that I normally do.
If anyone has a suggestion for a different ROM that might be able to stream my videos more smoothly I would appreciate it. I pretty much just leave the Gtab on the dock anymore, so using it to stream movies would be great
Using MXPlayer and switching from Software Encode to HW Encode is working a lot better. I just had a couple buffers/pauses at the very beginning of the stream and have been watching without problem for over an hour now.
I think this will work. Now to just install all my apps again.
OK, I found a few more things to note.
H/W encode mode is now seemless after a restart.
Music playback does not work through the dock. A simple work around for now is while on the dock the 3.5mm jack for external speakers/headphones still works.
So, for my two main "media center" functions, SmoothBean works great for me.
Good Luck. Hope this info helps

Really?
I've never had to do anything to get my docked G Tablet to share HBO on the screen. I always thought it was because there wasn't any type of hdmi plugged directly into the tablet and I figured that's what it was looking for. Couldn't get it to work with a micro hdmi and my Evo or family members' Razrs or Bionics, and I've never heard the complaint before.
Guess I'm just lucky?
Thanks F'n Around,
Thats some good info, i will definatly try out the smooth bean rom. Ive been debating going in that direction any ways. Are you using MCIFS to access you movie files remotely? And has anyone tried out the app Mizuu? Its a good little app for your movies. It pulls in all the meta data for them.
@ MechAniX.one- I guess it is MCIFS. I just access my NAS drive via my wireless network. I have not tried Mizuu. I haven't heard of it before now. I'll give it a shot sometime today.
Thanks for the recommendation on Mizuu. It looks really promising. Too bad it doesn't support networks yet as all of my movies are on my network and not on my tablet.

Yah, but if we could get the XBMC to work on our Tabs we would be set. It has all that included. I havent had a chance to mess with it yet. You should try. :good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813089
Well I installed the XBMC. I didnt realize that it was just an app that needed to be installed. I installed it and it ran good for a little bit but then it started to make the screen flash and it became unresponsive. From what I got to see it looks very promising. You can even change skins for it. If I can figure out how to fix it that would be great. I might try it on a different ROM. Right now I am using Dirty Bean.
I have run both Mizuu and XBMC and prefer Mizuu. XBMC does not recognize all of my movies on my NAS for some reason. Mizuu seems to work pretty good with CIFS. I set up a cif folder with "CifsManager" (free from the Play Store) and am happy with it so far. I really prefer the interface with Mizuu and it seems to be a little easier to set up. It is nice that XBMC offers more options to make it full media center, but I really only plan on using it for movies.
I hope that Mizuu eventually offers true network support as I think it will be even easier to use.

[Q]TF700 Getting 1080p in youtube app

This task seems to be absolutely impossible. I have tried close to everything it feels like.
3 different roms, (cyanogen, stock and right now running CROMBi-kk) and still no luck, the 1080p and 480p options just wont show up!
Is there anyone here that has the same issue with their tf700 or is it just me?

Zombi-pop works wonderfully viewing 1080

Going to try zombie and report back once its done installing, thanks for the advice
Seems to have done the trick, HOLY S**T than you so much. I was close to buying a new tablet because of this issue!
1. If you click on non-HD clips, 1080p option won't show.
2. On. KatKiss Lollipop 5.0.2 they show up on HD clips.
