4.1.1 Exchange battery drain and intermittent notifications - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've never had any problems with my Nexus S until my battery took a hit with 4.0.4 and now with 4.1.1 it's being a total pain in the ass.
For reasons I cannot figure out Exchange goes nuts. I turned sync off and didn't even check email yesterday but my battery had 10% left after 5 hours. With Gingerbread my screen was almost always the #1 battery user but since then others have taken away the crown. Exchange or Mediaserver with Android OS being runner up if not finishing first on occasion. I've been consciously trying to not use my phone for much because using it for much of anything means I'm down to like 3 hours on a charge. The phone never goes to sleep, the "Awake" bar is solid or a very intense bar code while the screen is more black space than anything by a large margin.
I am also finding that sms notifications aren't notifying me like they should be. Like I received a text 30 mins ago that I didn't know about until I went in and checked and seen one there waiting. Notifications are enabled. But I don't get the sound or the notification in the notification bar.

I flashed JB stock soju 4.1.1 (JRO03E) and I am having amazing battery life as you can see in the image with mild usage of 3 hrs 25 min screen on time. Usually with active use of browsing on 3G I reach 4 hrs screen on time.
I also don't have any problem with notifications.

Android OS consuming too much battery!

last night i slept for around 8 hours, before i slept, i had battery power at 65% left, i wake up in the morning to find 27% left! now i think that verrryy much for idle state as my wifi, edge, games, calling/texting and screen were completely turned off for many hours. i look up the battery stats and found that Android OS had consumed 51%. below is the screenshot.

somebody please tell me why is that? and how do i get more life out of my battery?
Maybe your phone only goes up to 9 hours...
Maybe it's kernel related.. Are you on custom rom already?
My Droid on a JB ROM has the Android OS consume about 90% of the battery and it dies after 8 hours of screen off time, airplane mode. *shrugs* if anyone has a solution id like to know.
Sent from my MB508 using xda premium
This has probably to do with something that is running in the background.
your phone apparently doesnt go into "deep sleep mode" Only in this mode you lose just few % per night.
I recommand to shut off your phone, take out the battery for a few seconds, put it back in, charge it in one go, then turn it on again. See what happens.
You can, of course, sleep with the charger in.
Welcome to Android, for the most part, our battery life sort of sucks :/

SoT is a lie!

Hello XDAres
Read this as a foreword - it's not a must
I've been using my OnePlus One for about a year, and at first the battery was great, but after upgrading to CM12S it seemd like it got much worse. this case wasn't only for me ofcourse.. many other users of CM12s and basically any Lollipop device had complained about a decreased battery life. their evidence to that was their SoT- which used to be (and I'm talking about the majority) around 4-5 hrs back at KitKat days, and had dropped down to 3-4 once they had gotten the 5.0-5.1.1 Updates.
that was caused by a number of things- among of them was the Google Services Wake bug etc.
Now to the point-
My OPO used to get 4.5+ SoT ( Screen on Time) back @ Kitkat days. since the upgrade to LP it went down to 3-4 max.
And then I've tried something-
I simply changed the settings of display, to turn off the display after 30 minutes of screen idle (it was 15 seconds before).
And the results?

The suggested conclusion is- SoT is a lie.
If prior to the changes I've made on the display settings, I'd get ~15% @ the end of the day ( say 11PM/23:00 ) and a 3.5hrs SoT, I can now get to ~5% at the end of the day ( again 11PM/23:00 ) by simply raising those values. does it mean that I've used the phone more? well, no, it simply tells us that SoT isn't that trustworthy as we thought.
Opinions?
Of course your screen on time will be better with a 30 minute timeout. But all you are doing is having it sit, doing nothing until it finally times-out.
But yes, the way you're doing it is not telling a true screen on time with actual usage.
Most people's screen on time numbers reflect the phone being used during that time. :good:

Sudden Battery Drain

I'm experiencing sudden batter drain on my Pixel XL, which I've had for almost 12mo w/o issue.
I unplugged my phone from the charger this morning (at 98%) and switched on battery saver mode when I arrived at work, which I've been doing daily. Normally, this results in having around 80% (or more) by lunch time, but I glanced over at my phone around 1130 and was surprised by what I saw (53%). I barely used the phone today and the battery percentages for usage don't seem to add up. The only new app I've installed is AT&T Global WiFi, which was installed on Saturday (12/23), with no noticeable issues. I'm preparing to leave the country in a couple of days so any helpful advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It's the att app. Go read the reviews for it, sort by most recent.
My bet is that it is hammering your location services while you are inside at work.

Under 2 hours battery life on S7 Edge

I have had this problem for quite some time... however I always thought it was completely normal until... I noticed it is not. I read many reviews about this phone found that I should be getting around 5 to 6 hours which seems amazing but completely out of reach. I switched from an old iPhone 6 which made this seem like much better battery life. I used to get a bit more battery life but now not anymore. I am rooted and have tried many methods but all have failed. I am running a close to stock ROM called 'The Galaxy Project' which I like having. I have wanted to post this for quite some time. I charge my phone overnight and need it for the whole day, however it dies at half of the day. I have:
- Always on display off
- Screen res on 720P
- Bluetooth off when I don't need it
- Easy turn on is off
- Mtweaks is set to be a balanced power consumption
- Greenify is running on many apps
- Battery health is approx 84% which is said to be 'good'.
Sometimes I manage around 2 hours and 30 mins but this hasn't been happening very often recently.
Feel free to ask any questions... I have read many forums and none have seemed to help!! I really want to fix this problem.

Galaxy S6 Running Android 7.0 WiFi Battery Drain

So basically just out of nowhere, about 2 weeks ago, my phone's battery just starts dying really quickly when connected to WiFi. I am talking from 100% to dead overnight (7-8 hours). It's an S6 purchased on release day, original battery, but before this issue, I could easily go a day with normal use and have 40% or more. Even now with the problem occurring, I can leave WiFi off and still get my normal battery life.
No settings have changed (I have always had all the suggested battery saving settings set appropriately), no system updates, just usual app updates. I figured an app update caused the issue so I factory reset the phone with no luck. I ran a suggested app, GSam, to check for usage. It hasn't shown any apps consuming the power, just power draining very quickly when WiFi is enabled.

Not sure why this screencap is so huge, it won't let me resize it on here. Anyway, it's a screencap from GSam. The first half shows during the day with minimal use with WiFi off. The steep drop just before the green line is usage when I get home and have WiFi on. The solid green line indicates charging. After that is the overnight period with WiFi on, massive battery drain.
I'm at a loss at what to do. I really like this phone and this WiFi issue is killing the usability of it. If I'm at home and browsing apps with WiFi on the phone dies so quickly. If this were an issue regardless of WiFi, I'd understand that it's just old and a dying battery, but it's only ever present when WiFi is on.
Besides trying a custom ROM, is there anything else I can try to fix this? I don't have it rooted and would prefer to just keep it official firmware only if I can.
Thanks in advance.
