hey i was just curious if there is a way to change your city on the weather app (not just look at another city). i know your city is found by your location but i want to see if there is anyway to change it to another city your not in right now

thats not what i was asking but thanks anyway. what im asking is is there any way for the lock screen and your home screen to show the weather for another city besides the one you are in now?

soooo i figured out how to change the city on the famous clock/weather widget on the home screen all you have to do is hold the widget like you are going to remove it from the screen but instead drag it to "edit" in the top left and voila! you can also see full screen animations as an option which looks pretty cool

not everyone has the means or resources for this method, but you could move to that "other city". very low-tech resolution.

I already have two other cities added in the weather app. I just wanted to know if there was any way to view say Miami's weather on my home screen when I'm in NY without having to select the weather app and go to the city. The way I said how to do it avoids having to click on the weather app because it shows it on the home screen.

No, Gunny was adding it to the App, he was adding it to the Weather Clock widget, they're different procedures.

problem is i'm not in the New York Timezone
Mine seems to match the cities I have set up on my weather tab.
that would make sense but mine doesn't... weird. oh well
I should clarify, it seems to be using the first city on my weather tab. Remove all the cities and just add yours. Now check your calendar.

Try a hammer. It will not show New York weather after that.

Classic...weird, oh well, lol!
It has to do with the city listed in the World Clock.
First, click the clock on the home screen and add your city. Next choose it, and then delete NYC from the list.
Then check your calendar, it will now show that city in the calendar. If you add a bunch of other cities to the world clock and choose which one you are in when traveling, you will have that weather data on the calendar...
Yeah, i figured it out by accident last night. That's really kind of annoying that they make it like that.
OK got my city in there but now under "More Info" I have an error from Opera so does anyone know how to mod this setting? I know my city code but where do you put it in?...Thx...Tj

[Idea] Weather Live Wallpaper

Just a quick suggestion to android devs who may want to make a buck or two!
Make a live wallpaper that pulls weather information down every hour or so and sets the background to that animated weather. The goal would be to get it working the same way as the HD2's animated weather backgrounds do.
I'd code this myself if I could, but I'm a little bit on the coding-challenged side. I'll type a few lines of code regardless and see what I can do.
If someone did this elegantly I would definitely pay for it!
EDIT: The developer of 'Beautiful Widgets' has said he's working on exactly this. When paired with the Beautiful Home Widget, it will display a live animation of the current weather based on what the widget's weather is.

I wouldn't.... All I'd see is rain!
No, sounds really clever and frees up screen space as no widget required!
Whoops, posted in the wrong forum. Sorry!
Oh very nice! Not an original concept, but it is an interesting thought! I would love for this to be done.

No it's a blatant ripoff of the HD2 UI. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be sweet though.
There's a few live wallpapers in the marketplace at the moment that are very close to this idea. One switches the background based on weather to a static image of your choice, and the other pulls down Flickr pictures around your area of the current weather.

Just to add to this idea, it would be cool if the "live weather" background would use the screen itself as a "window" where raindrops would splash on it (when it's rainy outside). When it's sunny, it could also use the compass and accelerometer to (roughly) identify where the sun is and show glare circles that point to the direction of the sun.

Friendstream replacement for AOSP ROMs?

This is the only thing that I've been missing since moving from a Sense ROM/launcher.
Does a nice scrollable widget exist that's similar to the stock Friendstream one?
EDIT: I've tried out Socialite, but it seems to never sync properly and eventually force closes on the CyanogenMod nightly builds.
I miss it too.
Try Pure Messenger Widget.

EDIT: I was just too tired to realize what I was doing incorrectly. Trying to get a widget setup that looks decent.
All of the different variants of the Sense style widgets look really "off" for some reason. Looking further, it's definitely the pictures, as they trail a bit off the left side of the widget. (See pic)
I'm also not fond of the left/right arrows on the widget. I only set up FB, so I don't need non-working buttons.
Pure Messenger will make you forget Friend Stream every existed.

Use the scrollable version with ADW/LauncherPro. It is better than FriendStream.
Like so:
Nice setup TheBiles.
PureMessenger > friendstream with the ability to use skins, add email and sms along with twitter and FB to stream, ability to select preferred clients for clicked feed, and oodles of config settings in a nice scrollable UI with ADW or launcherPRO. Well worth a buck-fifty.
I wouldn't consider Pure messenger better than Friendstream myself.
It's nice... but sadly needs a few fixes in my opinion
1) Won't display 'mobile upload' picture notifications properly. It only shows 1 picture in the internal viewer with no way to go directly to the person's photo list.
2) Pictures display as filenames in the list view, rather than the actual thumbnail as sense does. (This might be considered user preference, but I'd prefer to see a picture rather than <randomwords>.jpg )
3) No support for built in HTC applications for Facebook nor Twitter (aka peep). While the internal viewer can be dismissed in favor of a real 'app', the selection is limited to bout 3-6 apps none of which are the built in parts of HTC's rom. (Of course if you're not using HTC roms then this isn't problem
Overall it's a great app, and the best out there I've seen, don't get me wrong.. but Friendstream still has the edge in actual functionality for basic use. Sure, No themes, lack of customization hurt, but when it comes down to using the product for what it's intended for (Keeping up with posts/photos from your friends) it has a few issues IMO.

Overall it seems "ok" but lacking in some ways as well. You can't post directly from the widget, which is a huge strike against it. I want the widget so I don't have to clutter my homescreens with redundant apps.
Guess I accidentally went past my 24 hours so I am the proud owner, or some such thing.

I'm using the scrollable widget currently, and like I said, it's neat to watch updates, but it's a killer that I don't see an obvious way to post anything to FB/Twitter through the widget, instead I'm forced to use the app.
It just feels "clunky" for lack of a better term.
I will say that the widgets can be set up to look better, it just seems that some of the skins are definitely not ones any OCD person would want to use.

It's Launcher Pro. I'm using the Froyo wide dock (in settings) and just setting up normal apps and using the Launcher Pro icons for them.
I like how it looks with a nice black/white theme.

Erm. You just click that little star, and select "update status." You never have to open the official apps. You can also click that little arrow and select "open Facebook" so you don't ever need an icon on the screen in the first place.

That's Extended Controls. The second icon is the Froyo hotspot toggle, but it does have a 4G toggle option. I just don't have it on there because 4G doesn't work with CyanogenMod at the moment.

Well crap, it looks as though I'd always been fat-fingering the arrow and only saw the "open Facebook" link in there.
I recant my previous statements and accept that this is a damn fine alternative to Friendstream. (after a little getting used to)
The only issue that I have with Pure Messenger is this: When a FB contact posts something on someones' wall it doesn't show who the other person is, even if the other person is one of your contacts it doesn't show.
Got socialite running on newest cyanogen nightly. Its pretty nice really, I actually like it better than friend stream.

Its the weather clock that does it. Long press the clock and drag It into "edit" on the top left, select your location you want, then check "show full screen animation"
Beautiful widgets sucks compared to sense widgets and they only copied sense.

delete your weather clock widget, and add it again. You will see option: "show full screen animation ?" mark yes.

Well, it's a freaking well hidden setting that nobody knows since most people loves the HTC clock and they don't even move it.
Ever since I moved from my sensation to the One S I've been looking to get the full screen animation out of the weather clock widget. I finally did the right search to find the answer here. I am a bit of a n00b but it should be automatically set as enabled in the ROMs that are offered here and stock, don't know why it's not..?
Thanks much!!

Unfortunately, I didn't (well, at least not for what you're seeing in that screenshot). If you visit plus.google.com in Chrome, it offers to put a link to the site on your home screen. So, that icon just opens the web version of Google+. I did install Google+ earlier today, but because I had to sign it myself to remove the conflicting permissions (it conflicts with the improperly built Gallery app), Google's servers rejected the client. IMO, the only chances we have of getting a working Google+ installed are 1) if the phone is rooted, then we should be able to replace the Gallery app with a non-broken one, or 2) Lenovo needs to fix it. Option 2 might happen by accident if they ever decide to release Android 7.
Looks like you can only change the lock screen wallpaper to a static picture, no live wallpapers unfortunately. On other phones you can.
Also, I can install and use Google+ just fine it seems, perhaps because I installed their latest December update.

My stock launcher somehow become corrupted, every second, I get "Unfortuantely Launcher has stopped working". It was a ***** to get to the Google Play store between saying, "ok" and having the message pop again in 1 second. So I was able to get into Play store and install another Launcher that is near the original Launcher_3. However, it does not have that LockScreen Walpaper mode.
I don't know how to fix and reinstate the original launcher. Even after trashing and reinstalling it, it still doesn't work.
Any insight?
